This morning.

Dawson Street, Dublin 2.

Dublin Lord Mayor Hazel Chu shot the gun on the 2020 VHI Women’s Virtual Mini-Marathon assisted by ‘Cara’, a running statue representing all the participants (even the very few who might prefer walking).

Over the next 10 days, until October 10, more than 17,000 women will do 10KM ‘their own way’ to raise funds for charities across Ireland.

Registration is still open here.

Janet is biting her tongue. ….no, no I can’t
      IT’S NOT A FUPPING MARATHON,
she wouldn’t know 42 km if it jumped on her back,
it’s not even 10km if you are ” doing it your own way ”
well done to everyone but stop deluding yourselves, you are not children, there’s no santa and you didn’t run a marathon mini or otherwise…
      GRR,
      earn it..

you should have stuck to your original deleted comment it was much more …you ;)
I was first married at 20 I have already raised two very big and able boys, it’s a beautiful thing love and children especially if you get a chance to do it all again over twenty years later, I don’t mind giving personal details because it’s important to realise there are real people at the end of keyboards, real lives are nothing to be ashamed of.
I wasn’t raised a catholic or with guilt with weird ideas about divorce so I can’t really relate to your trying to shame me either. Ireland and it’s attitudes are catching up you know.
People probably wonder why I answered you well because it’s important to stand up to bullys, I have lived a happy productive loved life, I’m a survivor of deep tragedy and there’s no way you can’t hurt me with your meanness it just makes me sad for you.

whoever did imagined the average runner as the michelin man…. doing it his way

Amazing planning skills, is this when they think COVID will be finished? 20,202 exactly 18,182 years from now?

Some stance alright. Trying to give the impression of running.
I’d say the chosen method for Hazel will be a bike.

ok I’ll try the comment about how I really feel again, I think I triggered the mods,

this kind of poop ( is that better ;)) is the kind of thing that stops wemon being taken seriously, you don’t see lads claiming mini marathons, it’s this kind of patronising pat you/ yourself on the head behavior that undermines credibility, it’s a nice enough event/ gesture without it, do your yourselves seriously, stop the infantalising ( and maybe lay of the pink ;))

It’s not really seen as an athletic event by participants, more a fund-raising one. I doubt they care what it’s called but mini-marathon trips off the tongue more easily.

I had a woman in all seriousness tell me she had ran a marathon too at a friend’s dinner party, turns out it was this one , my food got extra chewed and I said well done ;)

Haha, I’d have been asking her if she managed it in under the hour. Seriously though, 10k is as big an achievement for some non-runners as a marathon is for runners. Live and let live.

I get that and fully support it, hell 5km is a massive achievement for many, that’s why I feel like they do themselves a disservice with the name, but it’s great to see even if it grinds my gears ;)
