I have no idea why it did, but this prompted me to look at our old house on Google Street View, the one I left before my formative years but where I had already looked at at least two formative Eurovisions on an old Pye black and white TV that came free with the mobile home which was used for overflow storage of too many kids. There was a large fuschia hedge in the front garden that we all called the bumblebee tree because in the spring to autumn it was full of bees.

They cut down the bumblebee tree :-(

I knew a guy lived just down from there! I swear, if it was not reality he was the inspiration for The Commitments practice place – he lived with his mom and had a shed out back. No wall that I recall, but I was younger then.
Wore the bandana on the stairs in The Commitments, and used play every Wednesday in Rathmines. Did the best cover of Goodnight Saigon I have heard live, on his own, guitar, and very excellent vocals. He could helicopter better than the helicopters!

My dad was once offered the curacy of St Patrick’s, living on site.
He was advised not a great place to raise an inly (sic) child.
