Level 5 for the whole country is totally bonkers.
I’m with SOQ and f_lawless.on this one.
It’s seems to me to be a complete over reaction.

    1. Micko

This is going to be interesting alright.

Sure we’re practically in level 5 in Dublin. Schools are still open, so that’s good.

It’ll be interesting to see how the rest of the country reacts, now that they’ve had wet pub freedom for a while.

    2. SOQ

We argue on a daily basis here Cian but how can this be in anyway justified?

      It just doesn’t make sense.

      1. GiggidyGoo

A desperate preemptive move by the state to try silence the critics even?
The protests obviously have them worried – the game is up.
The upsurge of usernames (one using many usernames) on various sites such as BS trying to try quell the rebellion.

        1. Brother Barnabas

so “to silence the critics”, the government are doubling down on the policies that the critics are criticising and the protestors are protesting against ?

          sounds credible alright

          1. Charlie

“Most of the rest of us are out enjoying our lives”..Ahaaa..oh my sides! Does Bosman know how to have the craic or wha?

          2. Janet, dreams of big guns

enjoying our lives are you fupping mental, looking after parents who’s mental health is going down the toilet as they bounce off the walls and each other ,
watching your savings for a house get eaten up by all expenses after rent not knowing if you will ever get back to work because your company is quiet likely to fold before that ever happens,
watching friends move back in with parents as they loose jobs and pretty much all hope,
yeah it’s fupping the life all right,

      2. Commenter #1

Gotta say; it’s a bit hard to happily acquiesce to a request to make yet more massive sacrifices to save our creaking healthcare system, from the people responsible for the state that the system is in.

Not denying that our ICU and Emergency Unit bed situation is chronic; instead, I’m saying that the people who’ve been managing that situation for decades do not have much in the way of moral authority to spare here.

        1. Nigel

No sympathy whatsoever for the parties that have been in and out of power for decades and failing to come to grips with the health care system. At the same time, people kept voting them back in, over and over again, so here we are – the politicians and the electorate colluded to create the health service as it is. The people who deserve our sympathy are the frontiline workers and their families who are going to suffer abominably.

          1. Commenter #1

            That’s a separate issue, though.

We should sympathise with those of us tasked with cleaning up the mess of successive governments; should not stop us acknowledging who’s responsible for that mess.

Two former minsters for health as Taoiseach and Tánaiste. Another former minister for health still in cabinet. Current minister for health so out of his depth it’s incredible. That’s where responsibility lies.

          2. Nigel

I agree. But you know what? Over the years we the people failed to vote in anyone who would or could actually fix the heath service. Can’t go back in time and sort it now.

    3. Charger Salmons

I generally stay out of the whole Covid-19 blame game these days as just about every country and political leader has made a bit of a hash of their response at some stage.
However, with the addition of only 7 new ICU beds throughout Ireland since the start of the pandemic and with contact tracing seemingly an afterthought I do wonder if the level of reaction and forward-planning is as good as it should have been.
It’s clear that more thought has been put into investigating a golf dinner and the Leaving Cert fiasco than planning for a devsastating winter in Ireland’s hospitals.

    Spurts knock Utd for six”

    ???

on a front page? jasus tonight who does quality control at the Examiner?

    1. Brother Barnabas

surely a reference to spurs’ counterattacking spurts that undid united no fewer than six times. or maybe no

  3. GiggidyGoo

Level 5 – that would be the straw that broke the nations back.

    – 60- odd members of a secrets society.
    – No minutes of meetings since 27 August
    – Some ‘members’ don’t even bother attending in person or by video link
    – More ‘members’ send substitutes.
    – Sub committees haven’t made minutes of their meetings since before June
    – No indication how ‘decisions’ are made.
    – Holohan hasn’t attended all meetings in the last 3 months, yet can is out of the traps dictating.

    etc. etc.

Yet the top table of NPHET are making decisions that will liquidate businesses, throw people into poverty. The vulture funds will have a field day down the line. NPHET – Headed up by the guy who led the Cervical Smear attempted cover-up.

      1. GiggidyGoo

        Enjoy your flockdown.
Nothing I’ve said above is untrue is it.? You obviously agree with me on my points otherwise you’d have argued against them.

    1. Rob_G

“Holohan hasn’t attended all meetings in the last 3 months”

      – I imagine that is due to the fact that his wife is dying.

  4. Charger Salmons

I’m not sure my liver can take another lockdown.
I’ve only just got it back used to a 5pm start.

      1. millie madonna

Um no. Charlie has commented here before, and more than once. Not every new/unfamiliar username is the resident troll.

        1. GiggidyGoo

‘Relatively new’ then. But the usual ‘attack the poster’ when his brain is blank. And I don’t call every new username a troll. Some are easy to spot though.

        1. Charger Salmons

Now the strawberry-picking season is over perhaps he has too much time on his hands ?

          1. Charlie

Ever notice that every season in Wexford is strawberry picking season? Them roadside vans ain’t gonna ever move.

          2. GiggidyGoo

Unlike Charger who has a lot of time on his hands, sitting alone in his cold bedsit, with his one-ring stove, heating up the baked beans three times a day.
Charger, the fellow who tried to tell us that he knew of a few pubs who were selling out-of-date beer due to be being closed because of a lockdown. Only to run for the hills when it was pointed out to him that the breweries were taking the hit.
Charger, the fellow who tries to tell us he saves £1000,s by parking on-street in residential areas of Hounslow to save money on Airport parking. Only to run for the hills when it was pointed out to him that Hounslow works on a mixture of Residents parking Permits, and purchased parking permits.

That Charger? The one with the massive inferiority issues?
            =============

Oh Charlie – they’re not vans. Some display of thickness there boyo.

        2. GiggidyGoo

is that it? – Is that the height of your input? What would you apply your mind to if people didn’t give an opinion on current affairs?
Like Nigel, as you haven’t pointed out where I’m incorrect, you obviously agree. So why attack then?

          1. GiggidyGoo

Hah. Literally? maybe you’d like another go at it.
Tell us where you see these statements as being incorrect:

            – 60- odd members of a secrets society.
            – No minutes of meetings since 27 August
            – Some ‘members’ don’t even bother attending in person or by video link
            – More ‘members’ send substitutes.
            – Sub committees haven’t made minutes of their meetings since before June
            – No indication how ‘decisions’ are made.
            – Holohan hasn’t attended all meetings in the last 3 months, yet can is out of the traps dictating.

You obviously agree with what I’ve written

          2. Charger Salmons

As Nigel and GG are two of my favourite boneheads on here it’s a delight to watch them have a lovers’ tiff.
It’s handbags at the dawn of the new Y-frontiers.

          3. Charlie

Giggidy. Seriously, leave the house. Get some fresh air. The amount of time and frequency you spend on your keyboard here should be a real concern to everyone around you. Take a leaf out of Bosmans book and be out havin the craic like “everyone else”.
Spending your days bullying and arguing politics with strangers has no future.

          4. GiggidyGoo

Good man Nige. You say you ‘Literally’ pointed out where I’m incorrect. You must have had that post removed, as I don’t see it.
I posted it again so that there wouldn’t be any doubt, and you reply with that tripe.
If that what keeps you happy in your sheltered world, so be it.

          5. GiggidyGoo

Charlie – maybe you should substitute the word ‘Giggidy’ with ‘Charlie’ and practice what you preach?

          6. Charlie

Remind yourself of that next time to get up in the middle of the night to post on BS ;-).
Scuze me now but I’ll be back in a few days to see if the same folk are still doing the same old same old.

          7. Charlie

Why get up early when you’re the boss? He’s up because his head is full of anger and BS is his ventilator.
C’mere Pat, how’s that floor sweeper promotion goin?

          8. Charger Salmons

These two fellers flicking wet towels at each other in the showers are the perfect start to the week.
Great entertainment though I fear GG is fit to burst a gasket.
Nutty Nigel wisely taking the calmer approach.

    1. Charger Salmons

I shall know things are getting serious when the shelves suddenly start emptying of FeverTree Refreshingly Light Premium Indian Tonic Water.
Fortunately I already have a wagon-load stored in my man cave.
Along with many boxes of Twiglets I imported during the last lockdown.
      Fail to prepare etc etc.

      1. GiggidyGoo

        A definition of Walter Mitty.

“an ordinary often ineffectual person who indulges in fantastic daydreams of personal triumphs”

        1. Charger Salmons

You’ve got your hands full with Nutty Nigel mate – don’t try to involve me in your scatter.
It’s a fight to the death between you two with pigs bladders on sticks.
This court ain’t big enough for two jesters.

      2. GiggidyGoo

Scuttle off there Charger. You’re a busted flush. Enjoy your beans. At least the tins are well dated.

    1. Papi

Says Mr. I steal newspapers and leave my car to block people cos i’m selfish.
Karma would be wonderful, eh old sport?

  5. MME

Lol. I offer no reasoned analysis of moving to level 5 or not but one thing is for sure, pay no heed to the ravings of SOQ and F_lawless. They have about as much insight as a lobotomised amoeba.

  6. Joe F

More of your inferiority complex old boy! I really am convinced now that you must have worked for the Daily Express. You just ignore everything negative completely, and carry on regardless. Come on great debater, I know our crowd are shambolic, but would you like to comment on the UK’s failure to count properly. Marvellous.

    1. millie madonna

I like Ciara Kelly. I know she’s not the most popular choice, but I’d take her over George Hook any day

      1. Micko

Yep. I think she’s fair and makes some good points.

She was well up for lockdown at the start of this and then as it dragged on she was one of the first media voices I heard starting to question the whole effect on society of all this.

    1. GiggidyGoo

No – it’s because the UK hasn’t enough jets to make the vessel viable, they have to get a loan of some US ones.
      What a shame eh?

      1. Charger Salmons

GiggidyGoo doesn’t understand the concept of a carrier strike group on an annual joint NATO training exercise involving troops, aircraft and ships from the UK, US and the Netherlands.
Not the first time today he’s made a pillock of himself.
Surely even he realises he needs to step away from the keyboard and take a break from the internet.
Today has become his Mishap Monday.

        1. GiggidyGoo

Don’t tell me I have to show you up again!
          https://www.defensenews.com/naval/2020/06/26/heres-why-britain-is-struggling-to-form-a-fully-effective-carrier-strike-group/

“British and U.S. Marine Corps jets will be based on the carrier during its first deployment, partly because the U.K. does not have a sufficient inventory of available jets.”

I did post that to you last week mind. Maybe try some mind-enriching foods. Beans don’t hack it.

Walter Mitty lives on in the form of Charger Salmons.

  7. Charger Salmons

My goodness you really are that stupid.
US F35s are on the carrier because the American contractor Lockheed Martin is still building the jets for the remainder of the British order.
It’s a joint NATO exercise. You do realise the USA is part of NATO ?
Actually, why am I even asking that question …

      1. Charger Salmons

        Finally we’re getting somwehere.
If only some of you had concentrated more during your formative years none of this schooling would be necessary …

          1. GiggidyGoo

Already answered earlier. Not enough British aircraft, so had to get loan from Trump.
            ROFL

    1. Pat Mustard

Vile individual. Has a thing for little dead animals.

Jimmy Savile also raised loads of money for charity.

He also received multiple honours from the imbred royals.

        1. Joe F

You’re the clown who can’t spell. You wrote something a few weeks ago that still brings a smile to my face, it was so littered with mistakes. You lecture people about spelling and grammar, and you allegedly English. The truth about you clown man will come out eventually. Marvellous.
By the way, no comment from you old boy about today’s UK case figures. Oh I forgot, the Tories are 0.02% ahead in the polls, that’s what really matters. Silly me.

      1. E'Matty

I was typing a reply detailing Savilles involvement with the Royals but it all got too dark and grim for Broadsheet.
