Sad to see that Charger Salmons’ endeavours on behalf of the Commonwealth have gone unnoticed in the Queen’s Birthday honours list.

    Huh? x3

Triggering Muppets without even raising a finger.
It makes all that hard work worthwhile.
      Yay.

33 minutes past midnight and he takes the bait. Tommy the muppet be muppetin while the rest of the world be livin’. What in the name of divine shaysuz is wrong with you people!?
Happy weekend folks! Get out there and walk.

Hospital beds filling up, ICU filling up, people dying, I thought it was a hoax/flu/fake news/plandemic/casedemic/5G/Soros/Gates/New World Order, etc. I continue to listen to the people who take it seriously, not project engineers or YouTube cranks.

      1. Eoin

The Great Barrington Agreement doctors have pointed out that the approach to this virus is wrong. They have NOT claimed it’s a hoax. Get your facts straight before you engage your mouth. This is serious. You are now guilty of spreading nonsense and are trying to denigrate 11,000+ doctors opinions. Why is that? You think this is all a bit of fun? You think you can just dismiss 11k (and growing) doctors opinions because you might have to admit you are wrong and change your mind about something? Only a fool would dismiss so many doctors out of hand like that. Doctors willing to face ridicule and repercussions to their professional careers need to be listened to. If you don’t have the sense to take their warning seriously, then you can’t expect anyone to take you seriously again.

        1. Daisy Chainsaw

The difference between you and me is I don’t expect anyone to take me seriously, or care whether they do or not. I also don’t take seriously a list that’s mostly been signed by people extracting the urine online… unless Dr Johnny Bananas is your GP.

        2. Formerly known as @ireland.com

@Eoin – I read the GB statement – what a load of old tosh.

1 – herd immunity – show me the proof that it exists and will be long term.
2 – protect the vulnerable – how? People need to interact with people, especially the vulnerable. It is not just the over 60’s, or the the over 70’s that are vulnerable. Do you want their carers to be separated from the rest of the community?

The mainstream epidemiolists are facing reality, not the virus that we would like to face. I think the Irish situation is terrible and I don’t see the leadership that is required.

      2. Otis Blue

Not forgetting the numerous false names, several homeopaths, the “university of your mum” and a specialist whose name was the first verse of the Macarena.

Then there’s the 100 therapists whose expertise included massage, hypnotherapy and Mongolian khoomii singing.

‘Science’ is a broad church, it seems.

    1. SOQ

If you take a few minutes out of your snarky bitchin and attempts paint all lock sceptics as conspiracy loons because you are too bloody lazy to actually look at the real science- this is direct quotes from David Nabarro, World Health Organization special envoy for Covid-19.

“We in the World Health Organisation do not advocate lockdowns as the primary means of control of this virus. The only time we believe a lockdown is justified is to buy you time to reorganise, regroup, rebalance your resources; protect your health workers who are exhausted. But by and large, we’d rather not do it.”

‘We really do appeal to all world leaders: stop using lockdown as your primary control method’.

“Lockdowns just have one consequence that you must never ever belittle, and that is making poor people an awful lot poorer. “

      https://twitter.com/spectator/status/1314573157827858434

So that is the official position of the WHO and is a lot closer to the Great Barrington Declaration than that of knockdowns – he even states that he in agreement with Sunetra Gupta.

NPHET can no longer claim to be following WHO’s guidelines now after a statement like that.

      1. SOQ

*lockdowns- actually maybe knockdowns is a better term because there will be plenty who won’t be able to get up after this.

      2. Cian

Except it’s not the primary method here in Ireland.
        – Handwashing and social distancing are.
        – Masks are.
        – Reducing unnecessary contacts are.

The lockdown was introduced because the others aren’t effective enough (or rather the people aren’t taking them seriously enough).

        1. SOQ

Suggesting a level 5 lockdown at this point is NOT a last resort.

“The only time we believe a lockdown is justified is to buy you time to reorganise, regroup, rebalance your resources; protect your health workers who are exhausted. “

          1. MME

There is part of me that thinks you secretly desire a level 5 lockdown SOQ. It would give you a new vim, open up a smorgasbord of new threats, enemies and theories and reenergise all you “truth tellers”.

All I ask, and this is directed more at me aul mucker E’Matty, is to perhaps be a little more concise in your dramatic posts. You lot lose me on the second sentence.

PS. Nothing Nabarro says above is wrong or impugns the approach of our government.

          2. ReproBertie

“The only time we believe a lockdown is justified is to buy you time to reorganise, regroup, rebalance your resources; protect your health workers who are exhausted.”

So a 3 week Level 5 starting when the kids go on mid-term, to allow for some reorganisation and resource balancing in the HSE would be entirely within the WHO guidelines.

          3. SOQ

The point being made that it should only be as a last resort in order to give the services a break- because it is not going to stop it either way.

So the core question is- is our health services over stretched at this point? And there is no point saying that they might be because no one knows if that will be the case.

There is no possible way it could be argued as a last resort right now.

Anyways- here is an interesting interview with the woman of the moment, Professor Sunetra Gupta- she actually used the phrase “lockdown religion”. 40 mins long.

All those new Tory backbenchers will be nervous of losing their seats and they will dump him if they think they can do better without him. Yes, Alexander Bozonaro is doomed. Polls now are meaningless, btw.

Boris wants “glorious daylight” between himself and Labour. This ain’t it.

Perhaps Cummings’ Downing Street TV will help! Pravda?

A person I know was told today that they can’t have a check-up for their sprained ankle with their GP without having a[nother] Covid-19 test. The test has been arranged in a different locality (which means crossing county borders) before this person can see their GP for the follow up appointment.

Wellcome to the New Ireland, folks.

        1. Ithaca

It’s because they have symptoms of COVID or someone in their family has
Don’t be lying to us troll

      1. Micko

They may have been tested for work in fairness.

I was on this production for a couple of weeks a month or two back – now it’s shut down.

        https://www.irishtimes.com/news/ireland/irish-news/wicklow-production-of-vikings-spin-off-temporarily-halted-after-virus-tests-1.4374958

Everyone tested every week without fail by a private company at great cost. 24 hour turnaround time on tests.

Super strict protocalls, masks everywhere – even outside, one way systems, everyone broken up into separate groups and areas.

And they still couldn’t keep it out. Looks like there’s no stopping this thing.

    1. Clampers Outside

      I hear ya Steph.

I was diagnosed with eczema via emailed photos and a telephone conversation with my GP.
That was late last March, early April and I’ve been getting a repeat prescription of steroid cream every few weeks since.

I’d resigned to the fact I have eczema… And super peed off about it.
I’d had enough of the itching, so requested an allergy test, and got a face to face with my GP. Yay! No covid test required to visit BTW.

Turns out, now 8 months of scratching and itching later, and after 5 mins of an in person GP visit, I don’t bloody well have eczema!
      Woohoo!
It’s now preliminarily diagnosed as folliculitis and a week of flucloxacillin antibiotic should sort it out.

Mine is just a small ‘first world problem’, I think so anyway…

But it makes me think, how many with far worse conditions are not being seen to properly by their GP.?
      It’s getting stupid now.

But let me just say again, woohoo! no eczema :)

      1. Clampers Outside

( Also, I’m now aware that an allergy test is only good if you wish to confirm a suspected cause, but not much good in diagnosing a cause.
        I didn’t get one. )

        1. SOQ

No more Brazilians or nether region shaves for Clamps so.

I swear by tea tree for skin conditions- cheap and more effective than most creams.

      2. Micko

        Good stuff Clampers. Result!

Eczema is a pain in the bum.

Suffered for years with it and then one day it just went away.

        1. Clampers Outside

Cheers Micko, very relieved, was resigned to it, but sure wasn’t looking forward to living with it.
Fingers crossed this latest diagnosis is right :)

If you are an Aussie citizen, please sign the petition for a royal commission into the influence of Rupert Murdoch on the country:
    https://www.aph.gov.au/petition_list?id=EN1938

The website is struggling with the traffic – not sure if that says more about the Feds lack of IT know-how, or how unpopular evil Rupert is.

          1. Charger Salmons

I don’t think he was exercising influence as a child V.
He took over running a small newspaper in Adelaide when his father died in 1952 and it was from this he built up his media empire.
So give or take a few years it’s around seven decades.

          2. Charger Salmons

            That’s rather uncharitable V.
You asked me a question and I gave you the answer.
I always had you down as a little more principled than some of Herberts on here but perhaps I was mistaken.
            Sad.

If you feel the need to have me down as anything lad
Make it someone who knows that you’re an utter gowl whose personal circumstances are so pathetic he has to reinvent himself as a 70s sitcom character
            And not the funny ones

jaysus frillz and charger… can sense the sexual tension in this little tiff from here; wont be long before the two of you are wriggling together like a pair of snakes in a pit

          5. Charger Salmons

            She’s a frisky one alright.
One minute up on her high horse playing the holier than thou and then the next she’s spitting potty talk like a rattlesnake.
I can’t think what I’ve done to wrong her – something about seven or eight decades perhaps.
Who knows ? I shall just continue being my usual charming self and see if that does the trick.
Can’t have them getting all bothersome over a piffling trifle.

  5. Charger Salmons

    Kudos to the Daily Star.
Their front pages are always unashamedly bright and breezy.
The Halloween Masks promotion is straight out of the old Sun playbook.
    I vote for the Dom.

    1. GiggidyGoo

Hold on there a second Walter, while I call Sky to get a recording of cheering, singing and clapping. We can play the virtual reality for you then, when you spout out your Mittyisms.

    2. Cú Chulainn

Ah Salmons, The Star speciality is psycho seagulls, killer rats, the dead warning us and Bozo and Dumb Cummings. Spot the pattern?
The fun bit is the running gag about Holly Willoughby, but that’s a grown up joke you wouldn’t understand.

      1. Charger Salmons

Jeez, my life is strangely empty not knowing about the Daily Star Holly Willoughby running gag.
        I’m distraught I tell you.
        Distraught.

        1. Cú Chulainn

You didn’t get the Bozo and Dumb Cummings joke either, ya numpty..!!! Salmons, when the Star is too high brow and subtle for you, it’s surely time to hang up your keyboard and mouse.. at least for today. I know you’ll have a lot of grown up things to try and fathom out.

          1. Charger Salmons

Wait, so what you’re saying it that the Daily Star comedy Halloween masks are a joke and I didn’t realise it ?
That’s put me in my place.

          2. Cú Chulainn

Oh dear, Salmons, you must be quite addled to think that’s the joke.. take the day off, there must be a riot of thoughts and emotions inside you.. you must take care of your health..

    1. Cú Chulainn

Shhh… don’t tell Salmons.. he’s already dealing with some grown up thoughts.. this might push him over the edge..

  6. Charger Salmons

Many people are probably not aware that today is World Mental Health Day and this year more than any other it’s important to talk to people you know who are down, depressed, have the Black Dog etc.
Fortunately it’s not something | have a problem with but I know a great many people who do and for some of them losing the contact of work and pub this summer has compounded their issues enormously.
I ring them up and WhatsApp them more than ever.
It’s serious folks and even the toughest of tough guys needs to talk at times.
    That’s all.

Nothing to see here. Google has actually removed The Great Barrington Declaration website from its search results. Search for “Great Barrington Declaration” on Bing and the website comes up as a top result. Do the same search on Google, however, and the site is nowhere to be seen. Instead a series of hit-piece articles appear as the top results.

Apparently Reddit has also censored discussion of the declaration.

    https://twitter.com/boriquagato/status/1314898875153559552

I think it would be clear to most people with a bit of critical thinking skills that there’s a major campaign afoot to discredit and thwart alternative approaches to the current lockdown, suppression strategy for fear of them gaining a critical mass of public support.

    1. SOQ

Yes I seen and tested that- duckduckgo however has the website as first return.

Reddit is another story altogether- it isn’t just a shadow ban, its a full outright.

A few quote from an interview with Harvard epidemiologist Martin Kulldorff so.

“The media suggests there is a scientific consensus in favour of lockdown, but that is not the case.”

“We have herd immunity for lots of other pathogens, some through vaccines, but most through natural infection. It is therefore far-fetched and ignorant to think it will not happen for Covid.”

“It’s a unique experiment, and it’s a terrible experiment. I’m amazed – as are many of my colleagues – at the total focus on this disease. In a short time, we are throwing all the principles of public health out the window.”

      https://www.spiked-online.com/2020/10/09/lockdown-is-a-terrible-experiment/

    2. Daisy Chainsaw

Poor Prof Cominic Dummings being silenced!

The Not so Great Barrington declaration is a joke with an awful lot of quantity over quality. If you’re taking it seriously then more fool you.

      1. f_lawless

Explain why the merits of the approach proposed by three of the world’s most eminent epidemiologists from Harvard, Oxford, and Stanford universities, should be judged on the basis that some of the online petition entries were filled out by trolls. This should be good

        1. Daisy Chainsaw

I’ll let my colleague Prof Dummings take that one cos I don’t give any kind of a damn about a few egotists looking for attention.

      1. Brother Barnabas

or it could be that google figured out the whole thing is a propaganda initiative rather than anything to do with science that’s organised and funded by Charles Koch’s American Institute for Economic Research, a right-wing think tank that works primarily to deny climate change and contest and disrupt environmental initiatives, all the while investing billions in fossil fuel sectors around the world

so, on that basis, Google might have concluded that the whole thing is a dangerous scam and a lie

        maybe ?

Great Barrington Declaration advocating a ‘herd immunity’ approach to the COVID-19 pandemic has been sponsored by an institution embedded in a Koch-funded network that denies climate science while investing in polluting fossil fuel industries.
On 3 October 2020, the American Institute for Economic Research (AIER),
