From top, left to right: Doctor Owen O Flynn with Dr Tony Holohan, Chief Medical Officer, Department of Health and Dr Ronan Glynn, Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Department of Health at the Department of Health last night
Yesterday
Department of Health, Dublin 2.
At a press conference, young Doctor Owen O’Flynn shared his experience of ‘Post COVID-19 Syndrome’.
KN writes
Is it just me or are doctors getting younger? There was a guy on yesterday who looked like hadn’t gone to his debs….

I’ve noticed that strange phenomenon too. I think it’s more a case that we’re getting older, sadly.
Like a fine wine Millie….
My days of being a hot young thing are over. I hope you don’t mind that I’ve traded my love of dancing on tables and tequila shots for early nights and wooly socks.
He’s like a young Enda Kenny.
terrible ageism.
Jeasus, a whiff of the aul propaganda machine of this yeah.
“Look at HIM, he’s young! He nearly died!”
“IT COULD BE YOU!!!!!”
It seems that telling young folks that potentially killing their grannies did sweet FA to stop house parties
This is the new tact so…
Edit: Also, great headline Bodger
You are in total denial, Micko.
Yes, but it sounds like the right sort of denial.
Denial of what though Lilly?
I mean, you could reframe this story quite easily.
“Young junior doctor only 23 working tirelessly on COVID ward, isn’t provided sufficient PPE at the start of a global pandemic in late March. He receives a high viral load because of the lack of PPE and proper guidelines and has a near death experience, which he still is recovering from today”
It’s spin.
a few of my friends working in the hospital in Marseille and old folks home in Maynooth have had it because of a very high viral load and in the case of the nursing home a lack of staff , they reported nothing worse than flu like symptoms and are back at work, all non smokers and healthy eaters as it happens,
that’s just the people I know, I’m not denying covid, I am questioning why only one narrative is being pushed.
Same, Janet
Not “denying” it exists. But the severity has been so overhyped it’s laughable at this stage.
Even the language employed around it now. The word ‘denial’. It’s interesting.
It places it in the realm of a crime – like Holocaust denial
I mean, you only have to look at what happened to Dr Martin Feeley when he questioned the narrative.
Also, nice to hear your friends are ok. ;-)
I’d be guessing that one narrative is being pushed because if like Trump they say ‘don’t be afraid of covid, go about your normal day’ the people who arent non-smokers and non healthy eaters are more at risk.
let’s face it people, who are inherently selfish and couldn’t give a fiddlers about others, will go about their business without thought.
medical professionals at these press conferences are basically asking is think about your actions, think about how you can protect others, here are some ideas we have.
But that’s me just guessing
it doesn’t sound like reasonable asking to me, it sounds like terrify the most vunerable to a point it impacts on their mental health, I hear a lot of hard core fear porn, I have convinced my parents to dump RTE like an emotionally abusive voice in their ear they don’t need, guess what less unconscious head nodding, freaking out over neighbors kids and less anxiety going to buy milk.
But Hector
Things can be normal and we can go about our business with minimum restrictions.
Look at the videos coming out of Sweden.

We don’t need to be afraid. Careful yes, but not afraid.
@Janet- it’s about keeping the fear going because less and less people are believing this tripe.
Yes, but “ONE MORE DEATH” says the news.
Gimmeabreak.
I see all the conspiracy nuts are on this morning
Nice making fun of a medical professional with actual first hand experience of succumbing to this illness
Top drawer.
I could be wrong, but it seems to me that everyone thinks they know what is really going on these days. I have no real idea to be fair, I have some ideas, some thoughts, but as for beliefs? Nah, leave them for the spiritual.
I just wear a mask in case I am infected and don’t know it, I keep the hands cleaned as much as is humanly possible. I try to distance as much as I can. That’s my two cents on the issue. But I really, really do not know what is actually going on here.
Maybe the conspiracy theories are correct, maybe this was a Chinese bio weapon. Maybe it was a meteor shower infected with a viral load that survived re-entry. Maybe it was a hitherto unknown virus that came from a bat or a pangolin. Maybe God herself is p*ssed with how much we have messed up the planet. What I do not know is what is truly going on and anyone who tells you they do – be cautious.
I endorse this message…
who knows what’s going on but if doctors and scientists ask me to wear a mask, wash my hands and keep my distance, in case I too have it and infect another, I will.
Well said ian-oh
Agreed Ian-oh. No one knows what’s going on.
You should make up your own mind.
Personally when i’m being told one thing and I can see with my own eyes the opposite to be true (cases way up, deaths way down), I definitely start to question the rational of the thing.
Maybe that’s the scientist in me.
Fair point Ian but when I see eminent scientists being banned from the media to the point where they come together to sign a declaration like The Great Barrignton and when I see top of the range lawyers like the German Corona Investigative Committee getting their ducks in a row, something is definitively up.
Going back to your original point- I try to avoid going down conspiratorial rabbit holes and stick to the facts as we know them but it is hard to stay on the surface when you look at the data, particularity the overall fatality data- it just doesn’t make sense.
+1 Ian-oh… And Hector, Millie, Micko and SOQ.
Dr. Brendan O’Shea sounds like he’s getting frustrated:
From today:
https://twitter.com/drbosheaGP/status/1315793752447954947
“It’s called NPHET, not NC19ET.
Surely they should either go for a name change, or else start to meaningfully reflect on all of the other conditions that the other 32,000 people who usually die each year are dying of !? “
Well, he isn’t exactly an advertisement for the testing process.
https://www.gov.ie/en/press-release/5c481-dr-owen-oflynn-23-shares-his-experience-of-post-covid-19-syndrome/
– I started to experience a loss of sense of smell and taste with no other symptoms. I did not qualify for a test at the time, as my symptoms were not in the case definition.
– About a month later, on the 26th of April, I started to feel unwell after a day working in COVID ICU. I was tested in the community and the swab was negative.
– I was admitted on the COVID pathway in CUH and got another swab which was again negative as I wasn’t actively shedding virus at that time.
– Two days later my oxygen levels dropped and a chest x-ray revealed a new lesion. I was informed of a new post COVID syndrome starting to be reported in Italy – typically seen in children. So, I was re-swabbed, the results of which showed I had had a COVID-19 infection around 4-6 weeks prior.
How could a PCR test show he had a COVID-19 infection around 4-6 weeks prior?
Its a boolean result and (maybe) tells you if you have it at the date of test- nothing more.
The government press release is dated 12/10/2020, yet the exact same story was extensively covered in many Irish media outlets late August / early September – digital, print, TV & radio interviews.

Trotting the young doctor out for a press conference at which he gives the same story he gave just a month ago, meanwhile a terrorised Gilesy is exploited on the Clare Byrne Show – seems like the government’s ‘behavioural insights’ experts have hit a bit of a cul-de-sac and are running out of fresh ideas.
