From top: Minister for Children Roderic O’Gorman in the Dáil last Thursday;  Cork City Councillor Lorna Bogue

This morning.

Cork’s Echo reports that Cork City councillor Lorna Bogue has resigned from the Green Party.

Via EchoLive:

“I did so because it became very clear to me that the leadership of the Green Party lacks the competence to make a substantive difference to the way that the Irish State treats its most mistreated groups – as evinced by the handling of the Mother and Baby Homes Commission Bill,” her resignation statement began.

Ms Bogue said that whilst she believed the Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth Roderic O’Gorman was “coming from a well-intentioned position” she disagreed with how the matter was handled.

I cannot say to my constituents in Cork City South East, who live in the shadow of Bessborough Mother and Baby Home, that the Green Party engaged on this issue with a full understanding of its seriousness, nor with the close attention and careful handling that it deserves,” she said.

it really is time for environmentalists to reclaim the green jersey…Ryan and his ilk only seem interested in accumulating pensions and snoozing…they betrayed all the people who included them in their preferences…

    ?!?

Whats a ”Cork Coty Coincillor ”.

Someone who manages the coins in a cot?????

    :)

Anyway, if she feels this strongly then fair play to her for having the courage of her convictions. To be honest, I am not sure what to think on this issue, seems like Higgins had no choice to sign or close it off forever more (or until it gets resolved possibly at the ECJ level perhaps?) I am kind of stuck on what should have been the correct path here?

What I do know is that the Greens are coming out of this not looking great – I personally believe there is something quite not right with Eamonn Ryan, between the babbling, the perma grin and the snoozing…..

Wasn’t the worse typo ever, I was drafting an email to a client earlier and what I meant to say was ”I’m sorry you were left waiting for a response on this matter….” but what I really typed was ”At 8.12AM on a Bank Holiday Tuesday, I am not in the mood for your claptrap you moop*…..”

        Luckily I caught it in time…. :)

*Its a thing, look it up.

      Off to the Soc Dems

      with a few others
      I reckon

and a very strong rumour around Dublin is that there are two high profile / Exec level Greens getting ready to go Purple as well

” did so because it became very clear to me that the leadership of the Green Party lacks the competence to make a substantive difference to the way that the Irish State treats its most mistreated groups..”

“…the shared values of the organisation that I joined have been devalued by the leadership”

If that’s not a shot across the bows, what is?

There’s been an exodus from the GP ever since their leadership election. It’s accelerated since they went into government with FFG (FF again), and has had peaks (like Snoozy-time). There were many new recruits during 2019, especially from the student sector. Many of those have since left or lapsed their membership.

Eamonn Ryan; I wouldn’t follow him into a free supermarket sweep of the Celtic Whiskey Shop.

If you knew me, you’d know I’d have followed Saddam Hussein in there and enjoyed a nice drop with the old dictator, I’d imagine he was more human for all his, ahem, ‘faults’ than Eamo.

Yeah, I know, Saddam was bad, but was he mad? Not sure on that.

She’s right, basic competence and lack of engagement and understanding demonstrated by the Greens.
Then again you could apply that to the rest of the government as well.
I suppose she expected more from her own party
