“Who The Hell Elected You?”

at

This afternoon.

The US Senate.

In a contentious hearing, the CEOs of Google, Facebook, and Twitter, from top: Sundar Pichai, Mark Zuckerberg and Jack Dorsey were questioned by Senators over their content moderation policies.

Via CNN:

[Republican Senator] Ted Cruz angrily went after Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, pressing him on the platform’s decision to restrict content posted by the New York Post. He concluded by shouting at Dorsey: “Mr. Dorsey, who the hell elected you and put you in charge of what the media are allowed to report and what the American people are allowed to hear, and why do you persist in behaving as a Democratic super PAC silencing views to the contrary of your political beliefs?”

And take off the damn nose ring.

It’s not Coachella, you shadow-banning spanner.

Urrrrgh. Twitter – full of donkeys

Really the more this goes on I’m starting to think that David Mitchell is right.

“ The internet’s a complete disaster and has probably done more harm to humanity than nuclear weapons” ;-)

Meanwhile, in a nearby paragraph of the same article:

(Democratic Senator) Schatz and other senators slammed the timing of hearing, which comes less than a week before the US election. “This is bullying and it is for electoral purposes,” Schatz said. “Do not let the United States Senate bully you into carrying water for those who want to spread misinformation.”

Since when did Twitter ever prevent The NY Post from printing whatever drivel it chooses to….?!

    Lolz. Poor liddul snowflake…..

    Ted Cruz.

    Cuckold King.

Dorsey should have insulted his wife, he’d say absolutely nothing after that.

That’s the joke of a yoke who manned the phone banks for the chap who insulted both his wife and his father.

Isn’t there a Twitter knock-off for the weirdo types who get ‘shadow banned’ ? There’s enough internet for everyone!

Is there anything better than watching a discussion between two people when one clown is getting super angry and shouty and the other person just stays zen?

Oh, I’m pretty sure the New York Post is acutely aware of their bias and the lies they peddle….. ribbit

      1. SOQ

New York Post did not publish that story without being on firm legal grounds- but that is not the point.

Twitter took it upon themselves to ban the story which means Dorsey crossed a line and his excuse today was very weak- especially as he has back peddled on it.

It’s hard to be anti establishment when you are a billionaire I guess.

          1. SOQ

If you are not one of us then you must be one of them is it?

I spent my childhood in the north so know full well where that goes- especially for those who did not toe the line.

          2. Ian-Oh

Calm down, never said you actually were one, simply said I never had you figured as one.

If thats a generic pop at social media, totally onboard with the comment, if its a defence of trump, well thats just sad. And no, I detest Biden too, the only man who might get elected solely by virtue of what he isn’t.

        1. Ian-Oh

OK, seems you just want a fight. Have at it on your own so, no interest in it myself.

No idea what the anti gay comment is about, but I am certainly not homophobic, have never said anything homophobic either, probably because I’m not homophobic.

If anything, my dislike of Trump stems from stuff like his latest supreme court appointment, someone who could make life very difficult for gay people in America. But yeah, being concerned that people might have their hard won rights taken away from is a sure sign of “anti gay tendencies”.

Anyway, my point was actually in surprise because despite our disagreements over mask wearing I generally agree with a lot of things you’ve posted on other topics, but if you want to take offence, thats for you to take, there was none intended.

Can’t be anti-establishment is you’re a billionaire unlike the New York Post which is owned by Rupert Murdoch.

        3. Nigel

‘New York Post did not publish that story without being on firm legal grounds’

          Citation needed.

          ‘Dorsey crossed a line’

How do you know? As in, has he done this before or anything like this before, and are we only hearing about it now because it’s derailing a Republican ratfecking, and they hate being thwarted.

        4. SOQ

To all above- Murdoch never presented himself as anti-establishment- he has been a supporter of some of the most right wing conservatives known. He is old school media which means that he can be challenged in court- and has been on many occasions. But in this case, the Biden campaign have not once denied the accusations, let alone challenged them.

What Dorsey is doing on the other hand is claiming they are not a publisher while actively censoring and engaging in political bias- the impact of such is felt not just in the US but right across the world. All three could be accused of this of course but that twitter banned links to this story is at best, sharp practice.

To say twitter is a private entity and do what they want is nonsense. Every industry is regulated to take into account societal impacts and social media is no different, and interference in a general election is as impactful as it gets.

I find it bizarre how far the left has come that obscenely wealthy hard core capitalists are now regarded as ‘left wing’- they are not- they are just as right wing as Morduch ever was.

          1. Rosette of Sirius

G’wan outta dat. Murdoch is exactly that when it suits him to be. When he was done with the Tories in the 90’s, they were toast and opened the door for New Labour. You don’t get more establishment than that…. Rinse and repeat.

          2. Nigel

I can tell how reactionary you’ve become because 1) Biden’s response is offered as some sort of ‘proof’ 2) you think someone, anyone on the left thinks Jack Dorsey is ‘left wing.’

It’s funny how you suddenly hear complaints about Twitter from the right, but apparently have weirdly been deaf to left wing criticism that’s been going on for years. My God, there have been reams written on the failure to properly regulate social media, resulting in the current situation where the US election may be determined by Mark feckin Zuckerberg pretending to have a conscience.

          3. Nigel

‘To say twitter is a private entity and do what they want is nonsense.’

Of course it is. But there’s one side of the political divide that believs in unregulated private commercial entities doing what they like is the same thing as freedom, and, weirdly enough, up until it inconveniences him, that’s the side Ted Cruz is supposed to be on!

  7. Nigel

Blaming Twitter for their October Surprise blowing back on their faces is, well, exactly what you’d expect Republicans to do.

  8. Nigel

I wonder if he gave out as strenuously to Zuckerberg for promoting rubbish conservative site Daily Caller to Facebook’s number one news source?

      1. Sham Bob

Sure, Pat. Though I reckon what I said might explain himself turning into the big Lebowski/George Hook all of a sudden and giving out about nose rings.
