Michael Bay, a great way to let me know in advance to move onto another movie. Any movie, literally anything, North Korean propaganda movies have more depth.

That was Michael Mann. The best Michael Bay film isn’t fit to lick the shoes of the weakest Micheal Mann film. There are no good Michael Bay films.

Oops :)… Still woeful tho :)

Feck’s sake, Clamps, he’s producing that film, not directing, different story entirely. And I LIKED the Miami Vice film…

I have a friend in Philadelphia, her dad gave her their family home, whilst he lives out his years on their beach house in New Jersey. Anyhoo, her dad had a nuclear fall-out shelter bunker built during the Cuban Missile Crisis. I visited it, it was kinda mad. Deborah told me that during the 60s – most people had them? Maybe, the Americans will retreat to their bunkers? I hope so!

This is a powerful and moving clip. At a protest in Italy, a mother at breaking point airs her feelings of desperation.

ian-oh
Its The Scum, never surprised at how low they can go.
The Indo isn’t much better, especially with the Kanturk shooting.
Why do they have to give the manner of death? Is that really something people are interested in? If so, maybe they could be a little more human and put it in the text of the article so people can read that if they want, but to stick it on the cover? Despicable, but are we surprised?
Gabby
The first sentence of the (limited) text says: “This is the mum and kids found dead in their home.” Any Sun readers who read more than banner headlines will discover that all three people in the beautiful picture died violently. I never buy the Sun either, and usually read lots of text in my newspaper.

Good spot Daisy, and a headline for Fixed It Ireland – https://mobile.twitter.com/FixeditI – a campaign for highlighting such poor headlines. Campaign is run by the Sexual Violence Centre in Cork, but they also do DV stuff

Probably because the circumstances are inconclusive. They have established how the children died but in the case of the mother, they won’t know until later today.

Shayna
Also, today is Shayna’s birthday. It did not make the front pages? As most women are, I’m reluctant to reveal my age, given that Maths in Ireland is a tad sh@te on it – I’m not most women. 1966. Also, the e’en of Hallow E’en – not Hallow E’en. I was doomed to be an also ran. I’m being a tad self-indulgent, apologies… I’ll continue?
My biggest thing in my life was /is Gaelic Football – not The GAA – just loved playing football. My dad, Big Seamie O’Neill played for Tyrone in 1957, he was a corner back for the county – full-back for our club, Clonoe O’Rahillys. Louth beat Tyrone (I know?), they were reigning All-Ireland Champions, they won 2 in a row in ’57. In ’86 – I had played with most of the Tyrone panel – there was a question, why isn’t Shay on the panel offered to Art McCrory and Eugene McKenna? I watched the All-Ireland Final from Hill 16, rather than being on the pitch with my team-mates from school and club. It’s a terrible feeling, helpless on the terrace. To be fair, I was a big fan of Jack O’Shea and Seán Walsh at mid-field. They were magnificent that day against Harry McClure (Clonoe O’Rahillys) and Plunkett Donaghy (Moy Tír na Noíge). I played centre half back and mid-field for my school and club and Tyrone minors. (Is it okay to continue with the self- indulgence -of course, it is – it’s Shayna’s birthday). In 2010, I was on a flight from George Best Airport, Belfast to Gatwick ( I was heading to Brighton for my SRS) I had a wing seat (I’m 6′ 2″) – my next seat companion arrived, he was wearing a Virgin Atlantic Flight Attendant’s uniform – during the onboard safety instruction – the flight attendant asked if we’d be okay to open the door in case of emergency – I did say, haven’t you noticed this guy’s uniform, I think we’ll be okay? Anyhoo, the Virgin Atlantic guy was a younger brother of Stephen Conway who played in ’86 – in my class at school, one of those guys who was an all-rounder at sport. He won the Aer Lingus young golfer of the year – beating Darren Clarke. When we were trialing for the school football team, both 13 – I got the nod because I caught an impossible catch from a kick-out with my left hand extended, then kicked the ball over the bar from 30m out. Stephen, I have to say – I hadn’t noticed in play. There was a 50 – these days, a 45M – he placed the ball, kinda Maurice Fitzgerald like – the O’Nell’s All-Ireland football was sodden – the trials were in November. I had never seen anything like it, nor had anyone else on the pitch – it sailed over the bar, everyone was agog. Stephen got the nod. Sorry, Shayna doesn’t get out much these days, whatwith The North in Lock-down and all the rest of it.
Well happy birthday from me, you youthful exuberant firecracker :)

Our family suffered a tragic accident a few years ago. My Dad phoned in a death notice to one of the papers which mentioned the accident and people’s ages. Within half an hour there was a call back from a journalist in the paper looking for all the details. Not pleasant at all.
A young man I was acquainted with was plastered on front page of a local paper . Arrested on warrant for no show at court for no tax and he allegedly went berserk at the station, tearing up charge sheet. (He had received a text from the officer not to attend as officer out sick and case would be postponed). I phoned editor and told him I would be making a complaint to press authority and I was pleased to note a “correction” the following week. Some “crime” writers are not neutral because that young man has been proven to have exposed corruption and garda charged with crime far more serious than no tax. Some papers , not all are “in it together” and I was fortunate to be dealing with a fair and gentleman Editor.
