RIP
:)
Classic, RIP that big man :)
It’s always noticeable when a certain mod comes on.
Suddenly a thick duvet of dullness descends on Broadsheet.
A wind of ordinary blows through.
The fun and originality gets sucked out and replaced with earnest boredom.
It’s like reading a knitting catalogue.
And then I do a poo-poo in my pants and sing “Hey Nonny Nonny’ for I am, above all else, a silly lumpkins.
Well that’s nice
He does like kittens. And racism.
Another one gone. So sad. All the cool actors and actresses are dying off and being replaced with garbage ones.
Not sure if Sean was cool in Darby O’Gill and the little people! RIP
Bond was an easy role for him to play, It must have been much harder for him to produce that Stage Oirish character. (But apparently Brocolli saw it and that’s what got him the Bond role)
Goodbye Mr. Bond, I didn’t expect you to die.
I didn’t cry when me own faather was hung for stealing a pig, but I’ll cry now.
Willie
Pussy Galore:
My name is Pussy Galore.
James Bond:
I must be dreaming.
he lived the dream,godspeed.
Great actor, sad day. Brilliant Bond. Loved him in The Untouchables and Highlander but he was an assured presence and forever a man of my childhood memories. RIP, Sean.
A few years ago, he got a nasty knock to his head when his book case fell on him.
He said “I have nobody to blame but my shelf.”
I don’t think there is anything particularly wrong about hitting a woman- although I don’t recommend doing it in the same way that you’d hit a man. An open-handed slap is justified if all other alternatives fail Playboy, 1965.
And when Barbara Walters put his words back in front of him twenty odd years later he said he hadn’t changed his mind
It was 2006
When he finally changed his mind and said outright that hitting women was wrong
Yet that was a response to pressure from the Scottish National Party
And btw folks
Look at that scene with Pussy Galore again – he subdues her and then forces himself on her
One of 1000s I know and it’s the big screen camp Bond treatment
But it is one of the most watched and remembered
And whether ye want to accept it or not
It’s a popular culture fixture, yet also an example where men were led to believe women could always be subdued if that’s what the man wanted
And that’s not a sexist observation C!an
Condolences to the man’s family n’all that
He did well for himself, and never forgot his roots
So fair play
But under no circumstances will I be turning a blind eye to his attitude to women and domestic violence
Must say I’m disappointed that so many of ye have
Can’t say I’m surprised tbh
BTW Navan Man Pearse spelt with an i
Was a way better Bond – best so far imo
How’s the new one coming along, like society it’s evolved, but it’s simple escapism, like romcoms when the “nice” or no fun girl gets the hot guy, which never happens,or as a Freud said sometimes a cigar is just,a cigar…..
I get that
And appreciate the Bond context Johnny
I enjoy Bond enough myself to look forward to the next one with the same anticipation and eagerness as anyone else
I take particular pleasure in knowing we had the last laugh on Fleming himself
M was played by a Woman ヾ(*’O’*)/
But none of that excuses what Sean Connery himself had to say about how to hit a Woman
Or that he was cast in much much more than seven Bond fillums
I’d never keep up or be able watch / read / listen anything – most artists I like where simply horrific humans beings.
Bacon
Picasso
Beckett
Joyce
Johnny Lyndon
Bobby Sands
-wet rainy day sat afternoon, hung over like a dog with roaring fire on,growing up ….oh great mum….mum it’s bond movie, yeah yeah the real bond,it’s on now, make us a cup tea ah gwan mum….perfect sat afternoon hangover flicks,Polanski,Allen…where would you start…
Nobody seems to have any issue with the fact that sixties Connery deemed it ok to punch a man.
(Indeed you might still get away with such a view today)
Being slightly flippant you could say that his view of slapping a woman versus punching a man was slightly progressive. Or being absolutely pc you could say his attitude was discriminatory against women.
For the record I’m not in favour of hitting / slapping anyone regardless of their gender identity.
(Although recently I’ve been thinking I could make an exception if I bumped into certain government officials, particularly if I happened to be wearing a mask at the time)
