The minister [Stephen Donnelly] said the Government’s plan is to “open back up in the first week of December”, adding that various methods of doing so will be considered closer to this time.

“It could be Level 3. There is a possibility that it might be Level 2, or maybe a regional approach would be taken.”

He said it is “very much our intention that retail is open for what is their most important time of the year“.

Jumping from Level 3 to 5, and potentially from 5 down to 2 is not a measured public health response. To hell with retail.

Measured health response? There hasn’t been a measured health response the whole way through this. There was surely no impact assessment carried out to determine what collateral damage would be to society by persisting for 9+ moinths with this same short-sighted, single-minded public health approach of getting the Covid numbers supposedly ‘under control’ – livelihoods ruined, grim job prospects for many, rising poverty, the isolation, the toll on people’s mental health,, steep rises in depression and suicide rates, the ticking time bomb of missed cancer diagnoses, etc, etc.
