‘ toot of the …distant bugle of the scientific cavalry coming over the brow of the hill’
As ever Boris perfectly captures the zeitgeist.

      1. Brother Barnabas

apparently cant be taken by anyone who’s been reliant on viagra in the last 24 months…. looks like charger will be cocooning a while longer, eh?

    2. Cú Chulainn

Doing nothing is 80% effective.. will this ‘breakthrough’ make any meaningful difference? Looks like we will have to wait till it’s administered, because nothing in the press release seems to suggest anyone knows for sure.

  1. Cian

Chief Justice tells Seamus Woulfe he ‘should resign’.

I’m pleasantly surprised that the chief justice is as abrupt.

    1. Joe

Hmm…Woulfe has been emboldened by Varadkar’s unbecoming behaviour as taoiseach plus Varadkar’s disgusting refusal to resign for leaking confidential information, coupled with Michael Martin and his fellow wimp grovellor Eamon Ryan’s planned vote of confidence in Leo The Leaker.
If the rotisserie taoiseach is refusing to resign, blueshirt Woulfe is only emulating Varadkar’s unbecoming behaviour. It should prove a serious headache for FGFFGP in the coming days :)

    2. Lilly

Isn’t this the same Chief Justice who said he didn’t anticipate any problem about the golf dinner attendance, when asked by Woulfe in advance.

      1. Cú Chulainn

How it appears to me now is not how it appears to have appeared to me then.. fair dues all the same to Frank.. it needed to be said.. and he said it..

        1. V aka Frilly Keane

          + V

“The manner in which you have met this problem has, in my view, added very substantially to the damage caused to the court, the judiciary generally and thus to the administration of justice”

I would add that Shameless Woulfe, aided and enabled by Fine Gael
Introduced a great big dollop of derision on to the Supreme Court, and opened it up to mockery
Which up to his parachuting in to it, was populated by Judges who were there on merit that was earned from graft
That stands up on talent and substantial verifiable exerience.

          Shameless Woulfe is a ligger
          Who blagged his way in

Of course none of them want anything to do with the lag

          One thing I suppose
There’ll be no more golden transfers into the higher courts for ex AGs again

          1. Cian

It isn’t unprecedented, Justice Donal O’Donnell was jumped straight to SC in 2010, as was Justice Adrian Hardiman before them in 2000.

I don’t think it is a sensible idea – as this fiasco has demonstrated.

          2. v AKA Frilly Keane

Did I say it was precedent C!an

In any event, you’ll not find too many complaining about Adrian Hardiman joining the Judiciary

and you’ll be just as pressed to find even more to complain about McDonnell

My point, since you missed it C!an

Is that there’ll be no more ex AGs getting their golden handshake on the Bench

This is why we can’t have nice things
Greedy party hacks and their sense of entitlement go and ruin it

        1. Lilly

Clarke hasn’t denied it, GG. At this stage, I believe Woulfe is being bullied by his colleagues. He should stand firm.

          1. V aka Frilly Keane

            Absolutely not Lil

He is the one bullying them
Albeit bullying by Passive Aggressive means
            But bullying nonetheless

He is deliberately bringing shade and embarrassment upon the Court and it’s current compliment of Judges
He has also already introduced doubt to every opinion he might be party to from that same Court
Which will include those that have immaculate records and are there on merit

From the moment he put his clubs into the boot of his car Lil
He strutted with the self regard that he was more equal than you under the law
And a particular law that he authored and supervised through the last Goverment Cabinet at that

get him the eff out of there

That he actually said he didn’t know there was a dinner
            Even after he ate it
            C’mon

And Fine Gael would seriously need to address how their own membership rule book deals with matters of Fitness & Probity
Because it’s so clearly not rigorous enough
            The same membership btw
Includes people they swear false statements,
            exaggerate injuries to gain financially
            Breech confidence
Share insider information (yet insist we get chipped PSA cards to renew a driver’s license )
Claim expenses they did not legitimately incur but claim entitled to nonetheless – ethically – this is corrupt beheavior btw
Launch a campaign that segregates the rest of us by #CheatersCheatUsAll
Send Social Welfare out to airport arrivals halls to snoop on citizens
As well as into bedrooms to check who is having a one night stands
+Tax convictions and whatever ye’re having yerselves

            Ara’ lads
            I’ve given meself ire
Pretty sure one of the Broadsheet men will take it on from here anyway

          2. Lilly

I’ll grant you a lot of that V, but he wasn’t a wet week in the job and as such, asked his ‘boss’ for guidance on the golf dinner. Should he not be allowed to rely on that? I don’t have strong feelings on this one way or the other but it seems harsh. I’d be inclined to give him a second chance.

          3. V aka Frilly Keane

Much as I respect you Lil
and the charity required within all of us to grant a second chance

The man was Attorney General to a minority Government that required a Confidence & Supply agreement to hold it up
The man was Attorney General to an acting Government at a time when extraordinary, implusive, and emergency decisions were made, and legislation enacted that imposed restrictions to one of our fundamental rights as a free speech Democracy
The man was parachuted in to the highest Court in the State by way of backroom trading between Political Parties, and with zero judicial experience or credentials to allow a full vetting by the public at large

Therefore I feel I am entitled to insist on a higher standard of decision making and accountability from him
Whether we like it or not
His position both as Attorney General and now as a Supreme Court Judge demands that his integrity, judgement and actions in all his endeavours is beyond second guessing
That it survives all forms of scrutiny
            No matter what
            No matter from whom

Even his boss in the Supreme Court

Sorry about this folks, but once again I have to repeat this
Why the eff am I held to a higher standard of Professional Standards, Probity and Ethics than Séamus Woulfe or any participant in his appointment
Either to the Supreme Court or as AG

Please would someone ever answer that

IRISH WORLD has a headline: The first Irish-American president since JFK. Have they forgotten Ronald Reagan of Ballyporeen?

    1. Pat Walsh

Not only has the Irish World forgotten about Reagan and Obama, but Nixon, Carter and both Bushes had Irish ancestry.

      1. Gabby

Ah yes, Nixon visited the formerly Quaker village of Timoleague. Prior to his official Irish visit, Quakers in Dublin issued a public statement dissociating themselves from Nixon’s foreign military policies.

  3. Kate

Wolife is donating 3 months wages to charity and won’t sit until 2021….a few months away. Officially, a smacked wrist and case closed.

  4. GiggidyGoo

Varadkar has to do it all again this evening. The drip feed from Village magazine means he is going to tie himself up in knots, and drop more clangers.

Lying to the Dail is a resigning matter. Will he do the right thing and resign before he drags more ministers down? – Donohue and Harris weren’t very up front about their contact with Tuathail. If they have to elaborate, will they return the favour to Varadkar and throw him under the bus?

Giving a confidential document to a matey was also illegal – and Varadkar was well aware of that, Another resigning matter.

Awful that Varadkar has to answer to SF under the spotlight isn’t it? A far cry from his own childish replies and non replies during leaders questions over the years, wearing his smart smile. My how the mighty have fallen!

I wonder if his ma and da are as proud today as they were when he ‘became’ Taoiseach. Will he make the cover of the local Time magazine? Will Noonan and Kenny be on hand for the vote?

Tune in this evening. Varadkar – the Squeakuel.

    1. MME

Guffaw. That is some low-wattage Shinner-bottage bashed out bleary-eyed in the wee hours GiggidyGoo.

Needless to say, there is a mounting suspicion that Varadkar is not the actual target of this theatre…

      1. GiggidyGoo

Not at all bleary-eyed. It’s a normal time for some people – even Varadkar likes us folk that keep this country running, so that you can have your porridge at 08:30. Porridge – hah!. I hear it’s not great in prison.

The target of course isn’t totally Varadkar. We all know that. However, lying to the Dail is a resigning matter, so the more casualties in FFGr the better. Maybe a good equivalent of a dose of prunes in FFGr ranks is what’s needed to give them the hurry-outs. ROFL

        1. MME

Speaking of “lies”. This has been so cack-handed from the start on the part of the Village culminating in a set of “new” revelations about further meetings that they proclaim “may or may not have happened”. Lol
That then unleashes tweets with photographic evidence showing that some of these meetings patently could not have happened and basic denials by ministers in a blithe and unperturbed way.

The problem is taking Chay “Russia Today” Bowes’ scoops egged on by Paddy “Twisted Messiah” Cosgrave as gospel.

Very easy then for Leo to crow “fake news”.

    2. Cian

I wonder if his ma and da are as proud today as they were when he ‘became’ Taoiseach.
why the quotes around became? He did become Taoiseach.

I think you are mistaken. FG democratically elects it’s leader. Whereas the IRA Army Council SF is ‘assigned’ a glorious leader by diktat.

      1. GiggidyGoo

ROFL. What was that you were saying a couple of days ago about deflection and distraction.

What’s your problem with me mentioning him becoming Taoiseach? – you’ve just said it (‘become’) yourself. In case you don’t know, he ‘became’ Taoiseach due to FGs flawed election procedures, where majority doesn’t rule. That’s why the grassroots are laughing at his being in a real quandary.

        1. MME

Lol. Giggidygoo- you are such a shameless Shinner. You’d have us all in an unmarked plot given half the chance.

          Get da fluic to bed!

          1. GiggidyGoo

tsk tsk. You’ve been assuming that for years now, under your many guises. You clocked on 3 minutes early too. Dedicated Concannonbot. ROFL.

          2. MME

            Ha! Wired.

You are really on our hit-list Giggidygoo! HQ told us to target you. Because you matter. ROFL.

Now, get da fluic to bed!

    1. ReproBertie

Well if Rudy says it then it must be true!

Did he announce this from a garden centre while surrounded by sex offenders?

        1. SOQ

Did ever occur to you that such a setting was deliberate?

Legal challenges in at least 5 states and counting.

          1. Junkface

Ha ha ha! …you honestly think that they were happy with the Four Seasons total landscaping carpark in the outskirts of Philidelphia for their press conference, as some sort of 4th dimensional chess move?? Oh man, lay off the conspiracy websites.

          2. ReproBertie

Legal Challenges in the following states:
Nevada – 2 challenges. One denied, the other settled by allowing more observation of the count.
Georgia – an attempt to have 53 (FIFTY THREE) ballots removed was denied.
Michigan – 3 challenges, 2 denied, one which calls for a new election in Michigan, yet to be heard
Arizona – 2 challenges. The first abandoned by Republicans and the other, which claims ballots were rejected improperly yet to be heard
Texas – the Texas supreme court rejected an attempt to have 127,000 ballots from a drive through voting centre discounted
Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and North Carolina all have had cases heard around what the final date for receipt of postal ballots postmarked on or by election day should be. In Pennsylvania the Supreme Court was deadlocked 4-4 on November 6th as the deadline. In North Carolina the Supreme Court ruled that postal ballots can be received up to 9 days after polling day, once postmarked on or before polling day and in Wisconsin the Supreme Court ruled against allowing postal ballots up to 6 days after polling day.

The state with the most legal challenges is Pennsylvania. As well as the case mentioned above Republicans have sought to have the deadline for mail in voters to provide proof of ID to be limited to November 9th, instead of November 12th. This has not yet been decided on. Republicans tried to get the count stopped until Republican observers were in place. This was rejected by the court. They then filed to have the observers be allowed closer. This was granted and they then filed claiming that the count centres were preventing this. They also filed a suit against the Secretary of State’s decision to allow postal voters fill in a provisional ballot in person if their mail in ballots were defective. This was dismissed by the court. Finally they want 600 ballots thrown out because they were not in the legally required secrecy envelope. This has yet to be heard.

Which of these challenges do you think will overturn the election and hand Trump the presidency that he lost?

          3. Junkface

Rudy Guliani whining about a fantasy election fraud, next to a sex offender, in a landscaping companies car park, between a dildo shop and a crematorium….. THIS happened after the Borat sequel’s Rudy scene?? That makes it even funnier, these people are epically dumb.

    2. Nigel

So he’s broke and not paying for them. Even if he’s not broke he’s got someone else paying for them.

  5. johnny

….in other news turkeys just voted for xmas.

“While President Trump doesn’t often comment publicly on queer or transgender issues, his administration has been anything but LGBTQ-friendly. Vice President Mike Pence has a long record of anti-LGBTQ lawmaking and rhetoric, and LGBTQ advocates have already called the Republican Party platform — a holdover from 2016, as the GOP did not write one for 2020 — one of the most anti-LGBTQ in the party’s history. A second Trump term could further turn the clock back for LGBTQ people.”

    https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2020/8/26/21374948/trump-second-term-lgbtq-people

cant wait for the hourly virus update…..hot take 2 .

  6. Tommy Bohan

No mention in any of the papers in a long time about the Madeline McCann case and the so called “prime suspect” Christian B!! As I said before there is as much evidence of him being responsible as anyone else i.e. absolutely none. Yet a few weeks ago the UK papers in particular had acted as judge, jury and executioner on him. This, despite previously having named at least 2 other “prime suspects”, one of which they had to pay about £600k in compo and the other died. Shameful reporting. Look at the evidence people!!

  7. johnny

    good man grandad.
“The Minister for Defence, today launched the latest release of material from the Military Service (1916-1923) Pensions Collection. This release of records comprises of 3,383 new files representing 1,170 individuals.”

it’s a nice distraction from covid, lets hear it for Nicholas Leonard.

    Nicholas Leonard 24SP11341
Bloody Sunday, Gresham Hotel. Credited on file with ensuring success of the operation – possibly a euphemism for actually having killed the target? Also credited with having shot another alleged spy named O’Leary in Mountjoy Square – no date. National Army intelligence during the Civil War. Served again during the Emergency (Second World War) as a Captain in the Defence Forces.
