Let’s not mention the blatant dives Michael Owen took to win two penalties for England v Argentina in the World Cups of 1998 and 2002 (Owen admitted diving both times), or Gary Lineker’s ‘fall’ which resulted in the penalty that eliminated Cameroon from the 1990 World Cup.

Wow, going by these and the scenes of last night’s Neapolitan vigils, he really had a demi-god status. And it’s only a ball game!!

All credit to him, for all the lads in the world who could have made it if it wasn’t for the drink, he was there to prove you could do both.

Ha ha! That’s one way to look at it.
I think when someone comes from a really poor background, suddenly finds fame and fortune in their teens, then drug addiction of some kind is inevitable. Wasn’t it the mafia in Naples that got him onto the charlie? You have to say Diego had some life! King of the world in the 80’s, the greatest ever at one point! If only he had good advisors and friends to help him when he moved to Italy.
