Best one yet if I’m honest
But I have serious concerns about that type of fundraising – live – and actually scripted to be coercive
Also giving values but not advising who was confirming and supervising the tots
monitoring the calls etc
no confirmation as to who was getting access to payment details
Or if, and open to correction btw, there were operating costs for the fundraiser

calling out probity and sloppy governance
We sat back and watched it last night

not to mention the ridiculousness of raising money for Temple Street
while now tipping into the fourth billion with the N€H
But that should have actually been included in each appeal made from the floor of the studio last night
if not by Tubs himself, at least within the kyron etc
And quite frankly RTE anything should not be hosting any charitable fundraising without a very clear pair of hands managing it
between RTE and the Funds
Not until their own Accounts have been signed off – on the face of it now
since RTE have failed to produce YE2019, I’m entitled to question their Going Concern prospects
that puts probity compliance and a whole range of risks in the red
If a registered charity themselves did that

It felt like living in late stage Soviet-era Russia listening to the taoiseach speak on the news tonight.
“In July, we introduced guidance on wearing masks indoors and this has had an incredibly positive impact.”
This statement of course runs contrary to available evidence – there’s no discernable positive impact one can glean from the official data since the introduction of mandatory masks. New cases continued to rise.
No matter. Reality is whatever our leaders say it is. No need for distractions like evidence. Sure while we’re at it, what the hey, let’s tell the public they should now wear masks on the streets.
Steph Pinker
I turned off the radio after I heard Donnelly (remember him?) telling us to wear masks while cooking Christmas dinner – all 6 hours of it. Oh, and we have to wear masks while serving as well *cough*…

*I know why (medical card patients can’t afford expensive treatment, also, some dentists choose to deal with private cash paying patients only), but is it legal?
Steph Pinker
Dental hygiene is one of many necessary health aspects of life which are being affected by unnecessary lockdowns – it’s as if the most unfortunate and poverty stricken demographic in our society don’t matter:
Dental health is as important as mental and physical health, but poor Leo and MM have suffered cabin fever during this lockdown (apparently), but they will still suck the warm teat of taxpayers’ money through their bleached dental veneers.

Every newspaper about the government’s decision; hope, normalcy and celebration.
Well screw that. We had a chance to have a better 2021 but they just messed that up with their decisions. I totally get the argument about livelihoods, I lost my job earlier in the year because of it and it’s awful but for the greater good of the most vulnerable I’d rather we just get the numbers down.
Ramp up testing (especially around international travel)… it’s just so unfair on our health service this will all just spike in January.
…you wouldn’t know it from the newspapers and certainly not from reading Broadsheet but the pro-sickness lobby are only a tiny minority…the vast majority of us want to do our bit to suppress and eventually eliminate this virus and our solidarity looks like it will be rewarded soon with the emergence of several vaccines…we acted too late and too half-heartedly to take advantage of our island status to become virus free like Aus or NZ but thankfully we had NPHET to point out to the decision makers where their populous policies were taking us…again their advice is ignored and sacrificed on the altar of expediency…
Micko
Eh? Dunno about that @Bisted
If the “pro-sickness lobby” as you put it. are only a tiny minority.
Why are we opening up shops for Christmas then?
If the people don’t want a return to some normality, why open?
And with that return to normality, will of course bring more cases and more death.
Something that people seem willing to accept. So you may wish to question who is in the minority. You or us.
I guess we’ll see how many crowds hit the shops, beauty salons, hairdressers, restaurants etc from next week.
Anecdotally, a friends beauty salon in the heart of Dublin is nearly completely booked out for December.

Lockdowns kill more than they save Bridie and they do not protect the vulnerable- at least not to the level that focused protection does. Even a basic cost-benefit analysis (CBA) will show the cost is too high which is why I suspect one was never done.
A lot of the cost is in the lack of other health treatments of course and public health should be the consideration of all potential risks including the fact that the poorest and vulnerable suffer most from Lockdowns- something which NPHET has spectacularly failed to do.
As for testing, if PCR is so accurate then why is the new rapid test returning two thirds this less positive results? Two thirds of what we have been told are live infections are then false positives- which means decisions to lockdown are based on completely wrong infection figures.
SOQ
Speaking of which, this is a pretty good article on PCR testing. It used the term ‘Lateral Flow Tests’ rather that rapid but it is referring to the same thing.
So forget the politics and the polarised positions for a minute and ask yourself this simple question- if PCR tests are proven to be out by over 60% and therefore not fit for purpose- why are they being used?
Go read yourself- I am getting very weary of people who want everything delivered to them before they will even consider the fact they may be wrong.
Also I suggest you read The Great Barrington Declaration while you are at it.
Brother Barnabas
ok
so no actual evidence or numbers
thought so
its sheer conjecture, soq – making assumptions and estimates from one side only. is it not also true that if you lockdown the entire population, there are less road traffic deaths, less saturday night drunken assaults etc etc? it probably balances out
you’re being wholly selective
Cian
, if PCR is so accurate then why is the new rapid test returning two thirds this less positive results?
If two tests give different results how do you know which is correct? Why assume the new one is more accurate?
SOQ
Because it is testing for an actual protein in the virus? If the virus is not there then neither is the protein.

Strictly speaking Australia is not entirely free of C-19 and is currently heading into its summer where, as in Ireland, the virus infection rate drops dramatically.
There is nothing to suggest that come their winter Australia will not experience a second wave without widespread vaccination.
The state airline Quantas says it doesn’t expect international flights to begin until July 2021 – that’s another seven months.
New Zealand is thousands of miles from anywhere with a small population that’s easily policed and coerced into accepting Draconian lockdowns.
It’s also why other countries in the South Pacific have achieved zero Covid deaths.
Island status is fine if you’re a rock in the middle of nowhere but less so when it’s fully integrated with a continent a short distance away.

Lads, I don’t know your history with Charger. But every time he posts people have a go at him. What’s going on?
Especially since the points he’s making there are very relevant.
I’m actually gobsmacked when people now tout Australia as being “brilliantly virus free” right now without the caveat of them being in their summer at the moment.
Plus both Australia and NZ being in the top 5 self sufficient food producers globally.
…I’m fairly convinced that Charger, aka Ollie Cromwell, is a creation of Bodger…as a long term commenter on Broadsheet, I think Bodger has had several had several persona over the years…he seems to relish the bizarre and absurd and Charger seems to conform…a brit contrarian who lives here and operates as a landlord…who knows all the Irish foibles and must be a media junkie…he also displays a quick wit and a sense of humour…marvelous…

It’s like this Micko.
There are some posters on here with whom it’s possible to have an intelligent conversation and a bit of banter.
And there are others who I avoid because they dull and repetitive.
And by ignoring them it drives them demented so that every single time I post something they arrive as regularly as night follows day to chatter away amongst themselves like agitated meerkats.
On Covid I have pals in Oz. They’re currently sweating their way through an unusually uncomfortable heatwave but none is under any illusion that Covid-19 could return with a vengeance in a few months time.
Even countries such as Germany which had great success during the first wave are struggling to control the latest outbreaks.
January is the key month which is worrying doctors here, mainly because it’s usually the busiest month for flu.I was talking to my GP last week – a very sanguine and philisophical sort of chap – and I’ve never known him to be so worried as he is about the weeks ahead.
“….because they dull and repetitive.” Good man Charage, you’re always good to bring a smile to my face. You never repeat anything, do you? Except for important things like how far Bozo is ahead in the polls, hugely important for all Irish people to know.
You’ve shown you’re inability to construct basic sentences (see start of this post) once again. And can I point out basic grammar you clown? A comma comes immediately after the previous character, no space, old boy. Then you have the cheek to give out to other about their literacy!
Anyhow, you just continue listening to half of what’s going on you hypocrite, you’re showing your insecurities clown man, by having a go at Maradona, while your pal Bozo is a perfect gentleman to ALL (how many different women has he had children with now?) his lady friends. Why did his neighbours call the police? Check back if you want and you can find very easily what the neighbours heard. Marvelous I say.

But, to play devil’s advocate here. To rip the pee out of Charger whenever he makes a genuine point makes it just look like bullying to me and to potential newcomers to the site.

That lad Michael who sang with Dermot Kennedy was the best thing last night. He held his nerve and nailed the tune like a boss. Keep an eye for that kid, hes got real talent.
He was indeed. We will see more of him for sure. That said the little fella with the brittle bones warmed my heart no end and the little girl with the amputated leg opened up my wallet….
‘thought it was a great night tbh
Best one yet if I’m honest
But I have serious concerns about that type of fundraising – live – and actually scripted to be coercive
Also giving values but not advising who was confirming and supervising the tots
monitoring the calls etc
no confirmation as to who was getting access to payment details
Or if, and open to correction btw, there were operating costs for the fundraiser
Like Really – when we’re never done lately
well me anyway
calling out probity and sloppy governance
We sat back and watched it last night
as light entertainment
not to mention the ridiculousness of raising money for Temple Street
while now tipping into the fourth billion with the N€H
Some of these are answered on their website
https://www.rte.ie/toy-show-appeal/
Thanks Cian
But that should have actually been included in each appeal made from the floor of the studio last night
if not by Tubs himself, at least within the kyron etc
And quite frankly RTE anything should not be hosting any charitable fundraising without a very clear pair of hands managing it
between RTE and the Funds
Not until their own Accounts have been signed off – on the face of it now
since RTE have failed to produce YE2019, I’m entitled to question their Going Concern prospects
that puts probity compliance and a whole range of risks in the red
If a registered charity themselves did that
well the Sunday papers would be wetting themselves
Each time he made the appeal that website was included onscreen.
Along with a Phone number. And some text – which I don’t remember.
The text was
“Service provider: Abtran” (Not one that has a great record as regards security relating to credit card details)
Plus the numbers to ring.
The repeats are on RTE 1 and RTE+1 at the moment.
Don’t get me wrong here lads
It was a super show
And Tubs himself played a huge part
My gripe is with the methods engaged with the fundraising
I liked the little camper too, Sam. Did a good imitation of a pheasant.
I told the childers that “Mr Fox said for fox sake”. No further questions.
I saw that clip on Twitter, so cute. I dipped in and out of the show; I’m no expert but it seemed improved on previous years and the host less manic, more relaxed than usual.
Laugh of the night has to go to Annie – a precocious brat who undid Tubridy – for her comment on newspapers: “He doesn’t get the newspaper, he’s not THAT old.” Out of the mouth of babes.
I turned off the radio after I heard Donnelly (remember him?) telling us to wear masks while cooking Christmas dinner – all 6 hours of it. Oh, and we have to wear masks while serving as well *cough*…
Bring back the meter ruler or the big sthick to beat us with for not behaving – MM likes to tell us to behave, as does Varadkar, when he’s not leaking through the seams and bullying with his promise/ threat of another lockdown in January.
Also, can anyone enlighten me as to why some dentists won’t treat Medical Card holders anymore?*
*I know why (medical card patients can’t afford expensive treatment, also, some dentists choose to deal with private cash paying patients only), but is it legal?
Dental hygiene is one of many necessary health aspects of life which are being affected by unnecessary lockdowns – it’s as if the most unfortunate and poverty stricken demographic in our society don’t matter:
https://www.thejournal.ie/warning-over-treatment-crisis-as-dentists-quit-care-scheme-in-their-droves-5252051-Nov2020/#:~:text=DENTISTS%20ARE%20LEAVING%20a%20Government,the%20start%20of%20this%20year.
Dental health is as important as mental and physical health, but poor Leo and MM have suffered cabin fever during this lockdown (apparently), but they will still suck the warm teat of taxpayers’ money through their bleached dental veneers.
sure you don’t need teeth if you keep your mask on all the time ;)
Every newspaper about the government’s decision; hope, normalcy and celebration.
I guess we’ll see. :)
No worries
All appointments made now
It’s gonna be kill or be killed V
Let the hairdressing hunger games begin!
I’m definitely taking it to the edge this time Micko
Suspending all actions right up to the Broadsheet Christmas Do
Now I might get what’s left of the shellac removed alright on Day 1
Lick a coat of whatever is in the makeup drawer as a temp arrangement
The stress
PCR-Based Covid Testing Has Failed
https://lockdownsceptics.org/pcr-based-covid-testing-has-failed-us/
“Lockdowns kill more than they save”
any actual evidence or numbers to support that ?
https://duckduckgo.com/?q=lockdowns+kill+more&ia=web
Go read yourself- I am getting very weary of people who want everything delivered to them before they will even consider the fact they may be wrong.
Also I suggest you read The Great Barrington Declaration while you are at it.
ok
so no actual evidence or numbers
thought so
its sheer conjecture, soq – making assumptions and estimates from one side only. is it not also true that if you lockdown the entire population, there are less road traffic deaths, less saturday night drunken assaults etc etc? it probably balances out
you’re being wholly selective
, if PCR is so accurate then why is the new rapid test returning two thirds this less positive results?
If two tests give different results how do you know which is correct? Why assume the new one is more accurate?
Because it is testing for an actual protein in the virus? If the virus is not there then neither is the protein.
How was the “irish freedom rally” SOQ? looks like there was a good turn out for you lot
I am sure you will grow up sometime.
Irish people donate over 4 million to children hospitals while government wastes 1 billion building childrens hospital.
It’s the weekend charger, take a break, Kilmichael is nice this time of year, you should visit.
Heh, heh, heh.
And it’s not too far from that piddle stained, mouldy cheese-smelling bedsit either. A grand day out Grommit.
A nice little drive in the countryside, open top Crossley tender, wind in your comb over,
Marvelous!
Heh heh heh
Lads, I don’t know your history with Charger. But every time he posts people have a go at him. What’s going on?
Especially since the points he’s making there are very relevant.
I’m actually gobsmacked when people now tout Australia as being “brilliantly virus free” right now without the caveat of them being in their summer at the moment.
Plus both Australia and NZ being in the top 5 self sufficient food producers globally.
The history with Charger has been along these lines. https://www.broadsheet.ie/2019/07/30/de-wednesday-papers-328/#comment-2115730
Charger has a good schtick in racist, misogynist bigotry and is a self confessed troll.
He’s a silly booper.
I don’t think so. He was commenting on peoplesrepublicofcork many years ago, same bigotry, racism and a lot worse .
January is the key month which is worrying doctors here, mainly because it’s usually the busiest month for flu.I was talking to my GP last week – a very sanguine and philisophical sort of chap – and I’ve never known him to be so worried as he is about the weeks ahead.
https://www.peoplesrepublicofcork.com/forums/showthread.php?t=209757
That’s you Charger. Very intelligent eh?
Faux attempts at rehabilitation don’t cut it.
Recorded Boris and Carrie arguing and sold the recording to a newspaper — botty***** I’d call them.
I get it lads. You’ve a history ;)
But, to play devil’s advocate here. To rip the pee out of Charger whenever he makes a genuine point makes it just look like bullying to me and to potential newcomers to the site.
So, how about this. Rip him up when he’s being bold. But be nice when he’s not?
Or is there too much bad blood?
I like to completely ignore comments by the odd commentator I find irredeemable, it’s just easier, there are only three in they category :) so that not so bad,
although one of them is so irritating you’d itch to give a virtual back of the hand
Happy weekend !
there’s only one commenter that I genuinely think is just a real and fundamental twit – to the extent that I regularly have to remind myself not to engage
and I’m glad he can’t come back for christmas
we are talking about the same one :)
Lads, I’m right here ffs!
haha :)
(dont engage)
Bad blood and charger fattens on negative energy and attention. So it’s a symbiotic thing. He wouldn’t have it any other way. Well, he has no choice in the matter.
honestly – but I guess this isnt going to a popular viewpoint – I like charger (not as much as he likes me and in a different way, but still) and am glad he’s around – BS is all the richer and more interesting and more fun when it throws open the doors to every miscreant, deviant and reprobate out there.
He’s a predictable and tiresome bore at this stage – his hypocrisy is just too easy to point out. I do enjoy seeing him get his backside handed to him daily though i know this level of schadenfreude is probably bad for the soul.
souls are so last year
I think he gets a thrill himself from being slapped around here on a daily basis
See, so really everyone loves each other. I knew it.
Even if we annoy the absolute crap outta each other – we still come back every single day.
So… there has to be something in that!
Have a happy weekend indeed Janet ;)
Haha.
Micko is just Charger’s Irish alter ego. Same verbage. Different accent.
…how come publicans have lost their position as tops when it comes to political lobbying…time was when they would have been treated as an essential service…the pubs would have remained open, like the schools, through all levels…
Not to forget about the politicians who held their clinics in pubs.
A trajectory in synch with the Soldiers of Destiny
A British transport Tsar ? Has been appointed? What now?
Tsar (/zɑːr, sɑːr/ or /tsɑːr/), also spelled czar, or tzar or csar, is a title used to designate East and South Slavic monarchs or supreme rulers of Eastern Europe, originally the Bulgarian monarchs from 10th century
Best Late Late Toy Show ever? Hmmm.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2mYcTRzhnC4&ab_channel=HugoTalks
Dreadful indictment of the attitude of RTE towards using children to promote, amongst other things, Pfizer. Writing scripts for them to say.
Between that, the RTE farewell party, and Tubridy using bad language on what is a show geared towards children (and gets a get out of jail free card by many for doing so), that cesspit of State propaganda reaches more lows daily.
