Anyone have Georgia on their mind after another shocker by the Irish goys ?
Even Scotland fancy their chances now.
Heh x small free birds fly.

…what…did mighty Ireland get beaten by lowly Georgia…how humiliating…must be one of the greatest capitulations in history…

      1. Rosette of Sirius

Nah. That would have been when Engerland wuz bet 2:1 by the marauding Icelanders in the euros a few years back….

…nothing seems to be working out for England these days…even Dominic Cummings eyesight in question…he doesn’t seem to have seen the 11th hour humiliating cave-in on Brexit coming…bungling Boris betrays brexit…

I have the same view on polls all of the time. I don’t believe them. They’re not accurate. A 1000 or so sample of 5,000,000 cannot be accurate. The real poll is an election. RedC aren’t noted for their professionalism either.

Good to know that i’m living rent free in your mind though.

    2. Charger Salmons

Interestingly in that poll support for Peadar Tóibín’s Aontú has doubled in 10 months and is now on a par with Labour.
Not bad for an upstart afforded little coverage in the traditional Irish media.
Particularly with its persistent questioning of the government response to Covid.

  2. Shayna

I understand why Salmon is allowed to continue to post outrageously Anti-Irish comments, click-bait for comments, etc.., but to be fair, I’m tired of it. Shayna is graciously retiring from commenting. I love the site, of course – farewell lovely commenters! x

    1. millie

I hope this isn’t the last we see of you. I’ve always enjoyed your wonderfully whimsical anecdotes, probably the more for being an unexpected treat.

If this is goodbye, then take care Shayna. You’ll be missed x

    2. Charlie

It’s amazes me too. He’s first to comment most days. Obviously a torn soul without a friend in the world and desperate for the attention. Joking aside, I must admit, I do enjoy him reminding us of how the average Brits inherent arrogance still lives on today despite their rapid demise. Perhaps that’s why BS keep him around.

        1. Charlie

No he won’t. He sad goodbye a few months ago and was back within a week. He craves the attention. It’s an illness.

        2. Charger Salmons

Judging by the losers who I totally ignore but still follow me around posting gibberish responses I doubt this will happen.
          I’m culchie catnip …

          1. Papi

I’m becoming more convinced about the bodger/charger scenario. Clickbait means more than integrity.
            Shame really.

    3. Janet, dreams of a steamed clootie

ah water off a ducks back Shayna,
there’s much more irritating on here than that old one trick pony,
      don’t go too far !

For an Irish site, it’s weirdly British with its commentary, newspapers and diction.

NHS to enlist ‘sensible’ celebrities to persuade people to take coronavirus vaccine

Meanwhile, an internal NHS briefing paper shows that airline cabin crew, firefighters and the jobless are being targeted as part of a huge team of vaccinators being assembled, trained and paid £11.20 an hour to administer the jabs.

    https://www.theguardian.com/society/2020/nov/29/nhs-enlist-sensible-celebrities-coronavirus-vaccine-take-up

AIRLINE CABIN CREW, FIREFIGHTERS AND THE JOBLESS !

    1. Charger Salmons

Giving a vaccine shot is straightforward and can be done with the minimum of training.
The fact that someone who may have been made redundant from their job because of Covid-19 shouldn’t preclude them from doing this.
It’s why the NHS is also recruiting amongst the thousands of people who volunteered to help during the pandemic with St John Ambulance playing a key role.
They’re not all retired doctors and nurses.
As ever it’s designed not to overwhelm NHS staff who would otherwise already be under pressure during the winter months.

      1. bisted

…I’ll be in the queue for the first available vaccine…whether administered by a public health practitioner or a reasonably clean cabin steward…

        1. SOQ

I would have though dart players would have been a good choice myself.

If there is no need for medics then they could even do full rooms of people at the one time.

Just coral them in- throw a few sharps and job done eh? Never mind the hourly rate- just pay them by the grip.

      2. scottser

remember those 50,000 nurses for the NHS boris promised? a figure which included 19,000 already employed? that was funny.
        https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/boris-johnson-general-election-nurses-nhs-tories-latest-nicky-morgan-a9216506.html
remember the tories wanted to put the union flag on the vaccine? so an untested vaccine is going to be administered by an unemployed plasterer from hull but it’s ok because it has the apron on the box?
        yeah, that’s funny too.
Tories – they’re never not at it.

      1. SOQ

Not at all- one was merely a precursor to the other- as predicted by Dr Marcus DeBrun near six months ago- Dr Marcus was also adamant that only high risk people needed vaccinated if you recall? And no, he is not an ‘anti vaxxer’ or a ‘conspiracy theorist’ as the lazy minds like to label and dismiss- just someone who applies a bit of common sense.

The vaccine manufacturers are being very careful not claim any sort of inoculation against SARS-CoV-2 and they are not testing for it because they already know the answer. Not one single media outlet is claiming that these vaccines are going to halt or even slow the spread of the virus known as SARS-CoV-2.

Take it if you wish, and live with the consequences if there are any, but be aware the reason you are doing so is a personal choice about your personal health, nothing else- there is no ‘greater good’ at play- there will be nothing to virtue signal about.

        1. ReproBertie

Look at you playing stupid semantics with SARS-CoV-2 instead of Covid-19 as if some how you’re exposing a big conspiracy when in fact a quick google discovers test reports on SARS-CoV-2 vaccines.

          For example.
          “An mRNA Vaccine against SARS-CoV-2”
          https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/nejmoa2022483

A similar google search will find many media outlets talking about the vaccine slowing the spread of Coronavirus. I suggest you seek out the authors of those reports and email them your SARS-CoV-2 clarification.

          1. SOQ

Point me to one vaccine manufacturer who is claiming this please? Moderna certainly aren’t.

Pharmaceutical companies do not make mistakes like mixing up a virus and a disease.

        2. Oro

They’re not claiming it *yet* because that data isn’t available *yet* in a conclusive way as to whether the vaccine does this. Alick explained this to you very clearly the other day. The information that has been presented about the virus efficacy is what has been conclusively established, the other information will come later once the vaccine is in use, however the more pertinent info is what has been released already. As alick said it is very likely that some of the vaccines will operate via inhibiting the spreadibility of the virus within a persons body but this info is just not readily available *yet*. It is also likely in this way that a persons’ rate of infectivity will be lower with vaccination rather than without.

Secondly my point to you from the other day that a vaccine can’t interrupt mechanical spread of a virus (I.e. will not stop a vaccinated person breathing in virus particles if they’re present because how could they?) because it’s not a physical barrier (like a mask can do) still stands also. You clearly read both of those but you’re so irresponsible that you’re continuing down this anti-vax path because you’ve been radicalized and are now an online foot soldier of sorts.

As a final point, even if what you suggest is true and the virus only operates for the takers benefit, on an interpersonal level, if you and your friends meet up next May, and out of a group of 10 of you you’re the only one that hasn’t been vaccinated (because you’re you) you now put them in a position where they all have to take special care of you. So it is selfish in that way. Something tells me that wouldn’t bother you.

          1. SOQ

As per yesterday- Moderna’s Chief Medical Officer Tal Zaks also warns not to “overinterpret the results” so far on efficacy, in that they only relate to protecting someone against getting sick, not against transmitting the virus to others.

            https://www.axios.com/moderna-children-coronavirus-vaccine-68d680f7-5fb0-4734-b384-a4d55ab70e7c.html

That it- that is all we have. A vague hope that it may prevent transmission of a virus which causes a disease is not empirical science and in fairness- they are not claiming that it is.

As for ‘taking special care of me’- that may be the case as no one knows what health problems are down the road BUT- when it comes to a viral infection where 80% are asymptomatic and a disease with a 99.7 % recover rate- I’ll take my chances.

If you are going to play the communitarian angle then I suggest you review your tack- because that is as weak as it gets.

          2. Oro

99.7% survival rate for your average person. But a lot of people (you included) have risk factors. You’re older and your weight makes your odds not so long, and there are a lot of people in your circumstance.

Neither is the vaccine’s chance of reducing transmission a ‘vague hope’. It’s quite reasonable and the data is just not conclusive *yet*. You seem determined to misrepresent facts so that you can give out day in day out. I wonder what you’ll do once this passes by. Maybe there’ll be a 6G by then that you can tackle.

          3. f_lawless

You have to wonder, why hasn’t there been any nationwide campaign to ensure every single person’s vitamin D level is optimised coming in to winter? More and more evidence is accumulating to show a strong association between low levels of vitamin D and severe reactions to SARS-Cov-2.

As it currently stands, I think there’s a compelling case to be made that supplementing with vitamin D is a safer and at least as effective a method of fending off any potential severe Covid symptoms than the current batch of vaccines – according to the evidence, as presented, so far.

            https://www.mdpi.com/2072-6643/12/12/3642/htm

“Vitamin D Insufficiency May Account for Almost Nine of Ten COVID-19 Deaths

Evidence from observational studies is accumulating, suggesting that the majority of deaths due to SARS-CoV-2 infections are statistically attributable to vitamin D insufficiency and could potentially be prevented by vitamin D supplementation. Given the dynamics of the COVID-19 pandemic, rational vitamin D supplementation whose safety has been proven in an extensive body of research should be promoted and initiated to limit the toll of the pandemic even before the final proof of efficacy in preventing COVID-19 deaths by randomized trials.

According to a 2020 TCD report , 13% older adults in Ireland are deficient in vitamin D. 30% of those aged 70+ are deficient during winter.

A cynical conclusion one could draw is that there’s little profit to be made from vitamin D supplementation and that perhaps certain pharmaceutical corporations are exerting undue influence over public health policy in Ireland with regards to Covid-19?

          4. SOQ

@ Oro It is everyone’s right to acess the risks, especially when it is an untested real world technology and a fast tracked vaccine. My weight is just fine but thank you for your concern.

HIV is a virus and AIDS is a disease- comparable by as per WHO. It has taken them over twenty years to move from relatively successful treatments for AIDS (disease) to being able to provide a successful prophylactic (PrEP) for HIV (virus)- and even now there is still a risk of infection.

Don’t kid yourself- a treatment to prevent SARS-CoV-2 viral infection is nowhere close and besides, if the growing consensus that this is a seasonal virus is correct- it will have reached an equilibrium and be just the same as the others of the Corona family by then.

@ f_lawless- In the past pharma went much further than just exercising undue influence. In the early days of the AIDS crisis they actively blocked drugs until they owned the patents- which left ACT UP activists resorting to smuggling them into the US from Mexico in order to save lives.

            One word- hydroxychloroquine?

          5. Oro

@SOQ I’m not concerned about your weight. You said your risk was 99.7% and I was correcting that misinformation. And your age and weight are the relevant factors that would affect that (that number would be lowered). You also claimed the vaccine is untested but they have literally performed tests. I’m not sure if it’s worth replying to you in general, you really just say things at will with absolutely no regard for facts. Even when someone shows something to you as entirely false with no way to counter it, you just ignore it and then peddle the same lies the next day.

This is not a HIV / AIDS situation in the slightest and you know that. You keep conflating these. I don’t know why. If you’re going to suggest that WHO suggest they are comparable include a link. Also your whole “hiv is a virus and AIDS is a disease” doesn’t work in reality. People with HIV viral infection can and do experience symptoms (which seems to be your weird standard for a ‘disease’) – I would ask you which is it but your answer will be incorrect and low info. Your main issue seems to be a misunderstanding between the concepts of terminology around a virus (existential basic manifestation of a virus (particles)) and a virus (casual terminology for a viral infection in a person infected with said virus). I think you’re in an interesting (I flatter you) intersection where you simultaneously don’t understand it and also are trying to subvert and distort what you think you understand.

@f_lawless I think your vitamin D tab contribution seems like a great idea, in addition to vaccinations. Why not both.

          6. SOQ

Even if my risk level was high- it is still my prerogative as to whether I chose this vaccine or not- no one’s bodily autonomy is to up for debate- including mine.

Of course they have performed tests but they performed tests on the swine flu vaccine too- and look what that lead to. People are going to get injured which is why they insists on indemnity – the question is how many- to assume otherwise is naïve or stupid or both.

It is WHO whom are drawing the comparison with HIV/AIDS not I and yes some people do have symptoms from HIV infection but that is still not medically categorised as a disease until a certain point. AIDS is not a virus and neither is CoVid-19. These vaccines are designed to primarily limit or block the symptoms of CoVid-19, not prevent SARS-CoV-19 infections.

Otherwise, point me to the literature of ONE manufacture which claims to prevent the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 please?

    2. ciaran

If ordinary member of society give out the injections they will be less likely to join the protests afterwards when it becomes clear that the vaccine was a bad idea

    3. v AKA Frilly Keane

Well fire fighters are trained para medics aren’t they?
and I’d say flight crews have some amount of First Aid training

      Pretty good call imo

      Particularly recently redundant Flight Crew
Since they would also be trained and experienced in dealing with the nervous, the gropers. the yahooing messers, and the further delayed grumps and the permanently aggrieved – always moaning etc

      I dunno Same’oh
you seem to be just looking for something to be wrong with every decision being made

do you know what might be a nice past time for you
      the local driving range
      and a bucket of balls

      1. Brother Barnabas

the army is involved in testing- were knocking around in numbers when I got tested anyway – so would assume will be utilised in vaccinating too

        1. v AKA Frilly Keane

          I would think so too

and they have the facilities already anyway
and if there is an adverse adverse full bad reaction
shur they have a full hospital already
so won’t impose on the HSE etc
and they have the transport set up for any emergencies

Put the Army and the Dept of Ag in charge

  4. Charger Salmons

I hope mine isn’t from Aer Lingus.
I’ll be waiting half an hour for it while the vaxxer is sat at the back with her mates complaining about how awful management is while applying make-up with a trowel.
Give me a slim, efficient and no-nonsense East European Ryanair vaxxer any day.
I’ll even make sure my tray table is in the upright position.
    Wahaay !

    1. Toby

Nice to see that a few more commenters are calling you out on your bigoted and racist comments. I too am surprised that you are accommodated when similar slurs against any other group or individual would be tut tutted off the site.

Its unfortunately a part of post colonisation syndrome that some tolerate abuse from their oppressors. BS are complete hypocrites when it comes to this. Catholics and Irish people seem to be fair game.

      1. Janet, dreams of a steamed clootie

he’s right about the make up in fairness;)
a girl I know is a hostess and I guess she has just got used to the full face, surprised one day to see her without it ( she has the most beautiful skin underneath and looked about ten years younger and very pretty ) I asked her why she did it, ( subtle aren’t I ),
she says the policy is if you want to go fresh face it must be nothing but if you wear make up then the company insist on the whole shebang, eyelashes , nails, etc, so a middle ground ” day look ” isn’t really an option….so now

        1. Charger Salmons

          My point entirely.
Quite why some knucklehead thinks that is bigoted or racist is beyond me.
My regular followers will know I’m equally as critical of British Airways whose standards now are little better than some African treetop-flying rustbucket.I rarely bother with them these days.
Likewise the transatlantic American airlines.I’m a big fan of their more mature cabin crew but the food and condition of the planes is awful, even up front.
However, the central point about air crew being vaxxers is a very good one.Trained to take instructions, dealing with the public and keeping a cool head is part of their job.
          And they’re all on furlough.

          1. v AKA Frilly Keane

            See lads

this is what happens when Tipp Hurlers are tipped out of the Championship unexpectedly
They’ve nowhere else to put their big talk

so we’ll just have to put up with it
            for a bit
or until they get used to the notion Tipp footballers went further than their Hurlers this year

up front ( ̄_, ̄ ) you were ya…. still chancing your arm with the School Bhoys gate more like

          2. ReproBertie

I saw you were disgusted when the Cats scored their 2nd on Saturday. Hell of a turnaround in the end. Who do you fancy in the final? I’d like to see Waterford do it but I think it’s too close to call.

          3. v AKA Frilly Keane

            Ha!
Figured that water break lead was never going to be enough
            Not against Munster sides anyway

Yeah you’d have to fancy the Blahs here
they’ve that hunger that Limerick fed there in 2018

Limerick are a cracking side tho
One of the best AI winning sides in years

Tipp lads are disgusted with themselves
            that they didn’t get the back2back (●’◡’●)

One thing I’m loving about Winter hurling at intercounty level
are the long range points and the scores from play

    2. v AKA Frilly Keane

Shur why would ya go to all that trouble Charage

not even the ‘rona would touch ya

and somehow I doubt any Flight Attendant
      from any Airline, Anywhere
has ever let you close enough to check if t’was blusher or bronzer

      get away out that you
your racism is as forlorn as your imaginary sex life

    3. Daisy Chainsaw

With your non maroon passport, you’ll be sent to the EasyJet queue, where you’ll be left waiting and eventually get the wrong vaccine injected directly into your elbow.

      1. Charger Salmons

I’d like to think I’ll be getting mine in the first class lounge along with a glass of Veuve and some fancy nibbly bits-style crostini.
I hope it’s served by a gay male FA because they are invariably much more efficient than their female counterparts.
Unless they’ve all just been besotted with my swarthy good looks all these years.
And who can blame them …
        Marvellous

          1. Charger Salmons

If that means gay chaps are always hitting on me I plead guilty.
I think it helps keep Lady Charger on her toes.

    and some weed:)

congrats to Gino who i have absolutely no time for or his comrades is setting up a new lobbying group.

in my opinion his “efforts” have only set back cannabis legislation,he is inarticulate and comes across as ‘angry’ when he does get some media coverage, his ‘look’ is a dime bag dealer, with a tesco bag to carry his govt papers and a rolled up daily mirror.

as the new admin starts setting in,lots coverage on when not IF congress/senate passes cannabis legislation.

“On election night, 70 percent of South Dakotans and 69 percent of Mississippians voted to legalize medical marijuana. In Montana, the same percentage of voters — 56.9 percent — chose Trump and chose legal recreational marijuana.”

why confuse an already befuddled public ,by conflating hemp derived CBD products and medical THC derived medicine, sisters but different plants.

      https://ginokenny.com/2020/11/27/td-welcomes-court-of-justice-of-the-european-union-decision-on-cbd/

the campaign to legalize weed in Ireland should be straightforward and direct, its a potentially domestic 1 billion dollar market,we can grow it or import it…or have a black market with scumbags and pesticides or organically sun grow irish weed grow by farmers.

Gino has NO medical background, looks like he got his ‘medicinal cannabis” degree from too many afternoons in Dr Quirkey’s,he really should just campaign for people to grow 6 plants at home, keep it simple…

..great story in today’s boston globe, social equity, priority licensing, outcomes are getting watched very closely, boston is the experiment for community and social equity campaigners in NY/NJ-who wants a x felon or cop/firefighter going ‘straight’ after getting caught as a partner….good read.

“When former Boston firefighter Sean Berte returned to Roslindale after leaving federal prison..

    https://www.bostonglobe.com/2020/11/29/marijuana/two-sons-boston-were-arrested-marijuana-now-they-plan-open-hyde-parks-first-legal-cannabis-shop/

“One of the strongest such rules is in Boston, where a new ordinance requires the city to issue half of all its marijuana business licenses to “equity applicants:” people who meet three of six criteria related to the drug war, including having a past marijuana conviction or living in a neighborhood with disproportionately high drug arrest rates.

For Berte and his business partner Armani White, a Roxbury community organizer and youth advocate who was himself twice arrested for marijuana possession, that policy has delivered. In September, the five-member Boston Cannabis Board voted unanimously to issue their firm, Evergreen Farms, the city’s first-ever license for a marijuana store in Hyde Park, cuing up a 2021 ribbon-cutting.”

  7. ReproBertie

Loathe as I am to mention the war there’s an interesting story coming out of the whole Sasamach omnishambles. While we know the Brit’s are obsessing over their fish, little has been said about the accompanying chips.

I was surprised to learn that most Irish chippers rely on British potatoes.
“They have a better balance, chemically their composition, the dry matter and the sugars are more suited for the frying of chips, so that have that crispness and that flavour.” according to Burdock’s Derek Duggan who went on to say “Teagasc is working on developing a better home grown alternative, but they are not there yet.”

Britain becomes a third-country on January 1st meaning the EU plant health rules kick in so the importation of seed and table potatoes from Britain becomes illegal. That means a shortfall of chips for the chippers here which will mean either smaller portions or they use different potatoes and the taste changes.

On the other side of the Irish Sea, Britain uses potatoes imported from other EU countries to make frozen chips and they’ll be hitting the same import issues.

The UK has applied to the EU for Third Country equivalence for the import and export of seed and table potatoes but that will take time to approve and the process won’t begin until the trade talks are completed.

quite lovely interview with the Gf’s favorite ‘actor’ in La times.

“Which of your romantic comedies do you think have stood the test of time?
I’m amazed at how well they have stood the test of time in terms of people still wanting to see them. They’re scattered all over cable channels and streamers, so they must provide some service. There’s some that I’m particularly fond of, including a film called “Music and Lyrics.” Adam Schlesinger, who wrote all that music, died of COVID earlier this year. It’s awful. But what a genius he was.”
