Impossible Is Nothing

Via The Federalist:

1. 80 Million Votes

No incumbent president in nearly a century and a half has gained votes in a re-election campaign and still lost. President Trump gained more than ten million votes since his 2016 victory, but Biden’s appeal was so substantial that it overcame President Trump’s record support among minority voters. Biden also shattered Barack Obama’s own popular vote totals, really calling into question whether it was not perhaps Biden who pulled Obama across the finish lines in 2008 and 2012.

2. Winning Despite Losing Most Bellwether Counties

Biden is on his way to winning the White House after having lost almost every historic bellwether county across the country. The Wall Street Journal and The Epoch Times independently analyzed the results of 19 counties around the United States that have nearly perfect presidential voting records over the last 40 years. President Trump won every single bellwether county, except Clallam County in Washington.

3
. Biden Trailed Clinton Except in a Select Few Cities

As one pollster put it, in those “big cities in swing states run by Democrats…the vote even exceeded the number of registered voters.” In the states that mattered most, so many mail-in ballots poured in for Biden from the cities that he put up record-breaking numbers and overturned state totals that looked like comfortable leads for President Trump.

4. Biden Won Despite Democrat Losses Everywhere Else

Randy DeSoto noted in The Western Journal that “Donald Trump was pretty much the only incumbent president in U.S. history to lose his re-election while his own party gained seats in the House of Representatives.” Now that’s a Biden miracle!

5. Biden Overcame Trump’s Commanding Primary Vote

In the past, primary vote totals have been remarkably accurate in predicting general election winners. Political analyst David Chapman highlighted before the election…No incumbent who has received 75 percent of the total primary vote has lost re-election. President Trump received 94 percent of the primary vote in 2020.

The differences are Obama didn’t run against Trump. 2020 is a very different time to 2012 in case you haven’t been paying attention.

A lot of people were motivated to vote against Trump because a lot of people hate him. How can Trump supporters talk about “Trump derangement syndrome” and not understand that a lot of people hate him?

      2. Bitnboxy

Nah, other big story is the suburbs and exurbs. Biden won big here in 2020 particularly among the educated suburbanites a lot of whom chose Trump in 2016. And not only among white educated suburbanites – this class is mixed black and white in states like Georgia and they broke overwhelmingly for Biden. When the hard-core conservative National Review is decrying Trump’s baseless crowing of fraud (I’m being charitable) you know the jig is up.

What the fupp has happened to Bodge?! This far-right populist lurch? Strange. Maybe it’s for the clicks? I hope so.

The absolutely massive spectacular epic ass-whupping; the humongous, tooth-grinding, face-clenching sulk. That list of stuff just underlines how impressive Trump’s defeat actually was. He really had to work at it to lose so bigly. And Biden’s low-key campaign that generally avoided engagement with Trump’s nonsense and histrionics clearly worked for people.

      1. ReproBertie

        +80 million

Point 4 is beautiful as it shows that Republicans were happy to vote for Biden over the only president to lose the popular vote twice.

    Umm. Hmm. Gulp.

Blah blah blah. If it so obvious that it’s the biggest steal of all time it’ll be easy to prove.

There’s a shocking bang of Qanon and the alt-right dungeon off a lot of posts these days, have to agree.

    1. Junkface

Thats pretty much what happens in the courtroom. Trumps team say one thing at publicity events, and another thing entirely in the courts, because they have no evidence, or that its so laughable that they might lose their law licenses if they admit that to the judge in question.

      So much winning!

NYT story-Rudy issued statement denying it,but confirmed by multiple sources.
“Rudolph W. Giuliani, President Trump’s lawyer who has led the most extensive efforts to damage his client’s political rivals and undermine the election results, discussed with the president as recently as last week the possibility of receiving a pre-emptive pardon before Mr. Trump leaves office, according to two people told of the discussion.”

What has Brandon Straka’s opinion got to do with the price of turnips?

Why pluck his lukewarm, not very insightful or enlightening tweet at random from the Twitter-sphere and post it here? To add balance is it? I beg to differ on the coverage Trump and his hired plant-life has been getting in the media here there and everywhere.

  4. f_lawless

Yes it’s pretty incredible. Somehow Biden managed to drum up more voter enthusiasm than Obama ever did at his height. It’s simply amazing. I never saw it coming. A few factors against him that come to mind:

    – a Democratic party which was in disarray over the rigging of their primaries in 2016 (admitted by the DNC in court)
    – no formal investigation or reform of the DNC carried out. Instead the upper echelons of the party spent the last four years fixated on Russiagate, a subject completely detached from the day-to-day concerns of ordinary US citizens
    – in 2020 the progressive element of the party, fronted by again Sanders, rallying around an issue with bi-partisan appeal: “Medicare for all”, was again stifled during the primaries
    – Biden often showing clear signs of cognitive decline, never really took to the campaign trail

And yet, somehow, he pulled it off despite Trump’s own record-breaking campaign . Like that Federalist article says, you’d imagine any political journalists worth their salt would be endeavouring to explain the “historic implausibility of Joe Biden’s victory”, as they put it. Maybe in time, someone will be able to plausibly explain what his appeal was

    1. Pat

Here lookit, I’ll save the future experts a bit of time..

      Biden’s appeal was..,

      (drum roll)

      ..he wasn’t Trump.

      1. realPolithicks

That’s it in a nutshell Pat, I voted for Biden because he was the Democratic candidate running against trump. Anyone but trump was the mantra in the presidential election but I voted for Bernie in the primary and would have loved to see him win.

        1. ReproBertie

I thought the feeling was “he’ll do” rather than “anyone but Trump” but it amounts to the same.

          1. bisted

…nah…she ran in the last one and confounded everyone by snatching defeat from the jaws of victory and Trump got in by default…she did manage to get Sec of State gig from Obama and bomb eight countries in the process but not the same as getting her own finger on the button…mind you…she may yet get a nice blood letting assignment from Biden…he has her CV…

    2. Junkface

Trump is in worse mental decline than Biden. He’s a jibbering idiot and often derails himself mid-sentence, with free flowing nonsense and shoulder spasms.
Biden was not a great candidate from the dems, I agree, and the DNC is quite corrupt, almost as bad as the GOP. For Trump fans who can’t understand how he lost this time, here is a simple answer:

80+ MILLION PEOPLE HATE TRUMP more than the 70 million who voted for him.

…so they voted against Americas most obnoxious, spoilt rich kid conman, who doesn’t even realise that he’s in his mid 70’s.

IT WAS A VOTE FOR SPITE! Get it?

    3. george

How was it record breaking? Not in terms of the number of votes that’s for sure and he didn’t even have more money to spend due the way funds were badly managed.

How is it hard to understand that a lot of people don’t like Trump and are unhappy about the way he dealt with covid-19 especially. He has had historically low approval ratings for his entire presidency. He is an extremist and while a lot of people like him a lot of people don’t and a huge amount of people were motivated to vote against him.

      1. scottser

He’s a liar, pure and simple.
The best way to think of trump is as a salesman. He has 2 minutes to make a sale and he doesn’t give a monkeys about the truth, what promises he made yesterday or what he’ll say tomorrow; he’s about maximum bullsh1t right now.
Hopefully he’ll be dead of something embarrassing and painful soon.

    4. Oro

I don’t think it’s necessarily a case of Joe drumming up more voter enthusiasm than Obama did, and I also don’t think it had much to do with Trump in terms of his politics. I think it’s a function of the specific timing of the election. Firstly, there was so much at stake this year in the US. Between the fires, covid (which is a much bigger deal than at home). Climate change is on more people’s minds here, or climate anxiety (even if they wouldn’t give it that name in their own thoughts). I think people felt compelled to vote as if their future depends on it, rather than the motivation of goodwill like there was for Obama.

Secondly and i don’t know why it hasn’t been mentioned, the main reason the overall vote was higher this year was because of the postal voting. Duh. If you can do something from home you’re more likely to do it rather than if you have to leave the house to do it (see Amazon). It’s not complex. This is why points 1 & 5 in the copy and paste section in the blurb are totally irrelevant (not that the other points have much relevance either).

    5. Nigel

That’s just a long-winded way of sayng you don’t understand Joe Biden’s appeal to US voters, therefore fraud.

  5. Badger

I know, send him a few quid. That will definitely help prove the fraud. In fact, just to be sure, send your entire life savings.

  6. V AKA Frilly Keane

    And yet
The most shocking things, well surprising
Is that 150 million ish votes came out to vote either of two men well into their 70s
Neither of whom could fill a Junior B Club House without their party backing and media buys

That sums up 2020 for me
Egos, patronage and big bank Money

    Another thing
Is that the best lawyer the incumbent in the US Presidential Election could get was Rudi’fin Guliani
Another lad well past his best before
A local Council campaign would have better legal brains as Election Agents FFS

    1. newsjustin

“The best lawyer the incumbent could get…..to lie and spoof and tell him what he wanted…..was Rudin Guiliani.”

He could have engaged thousands of sane, honest lawyers.

      1. V AKA Frilly Keane

        You know
        I don’t think so

What I’m starting to see is that Trump is still in campaign mode

He’s carrying on like Trump Pence 2020 isn’t over
And doing sweet FA work as his Presidency enters it last month or so

Guliani & the gang were all retained by the Campaign
It’s like the campaign hasn’t wound down and been handed over to the specialists to manage the post vote / result legal challenges

It’s very easy for lads to say tis all about grift
Since big party big game politics is all about the grift and the handy gigs anyway. That’s no revelation to voters

And there’s plenty of examples here
        On our own doorstep n’all
        To prove that

    1. George

Barr won’t be fired as he has just appointed a special investigator to investigate the source of the Mueller investigation in a sad little attempt to “do to the Democrats what they did to Trump”. That’s the Mueller witch hunt which let to 8 people being convicted of crimes.

    2. SOQ

Barr saying no evidence of fraud that would change US election outcome is not the same as Barr saying no evidence of fraud. In fact what Barr is really saying is worse because it means ‘if we not going to win then it doesn’t matter’.

The people I find interesting are those who have filed affidavits and risk charges of perjury and jail if found to be lying- and why would they lie?

No matter how this turns out- the US is divided like never before- especially if near half belive there was fraud involved. That is an incredibly dangerous situation for a country which is armed to the teeth to be in.

      1. Nigel

You know what is the same as no evidence of fraud? No evidence of fraud. Which is how much evidence of fraud there is. The people who have filed affidavits haven’t necessarily lied. They also haven’t provided any evidence of fraud.

      2. Oro

The US was prob more divided around the time of their civil war lol. Do you just get up in the morning and say things? Like, just random thoughts that come into your brain.

        1. SOQ

Saying that the US is very divided right now is controversial to you then is it? It is the most divided I have ever seen it and this is going to leave it even worse.

Now you may think that a new civil war situation is acceptable- but I like most people certainly do not.

          1. Nigel

Just so long as you remember that the people who believe there was fraud involved are doing so based on no evidence whatsoever.

          2. Oro

Ok you understand that “more divided than ever before”
is different to “most divided I’ve ever seen it”. That there’s a vast difference between those two statements. If you’re gonna come on here and throw around clownish nonsense like that you can’t act all high and mighty when it’s pointed out. It’s either or. If you want to be taken seriously don’t be so ridiculous.

          3. SOQ

If your yardstick is the first civil war then perhaps it is you who is throwing around clownish nonsense. It certainly is not taking into account the damage to American society this election has done.

          4. SOQ

Nope the Dems have played their part to play too.

Biden was not behind the door at using the race card despite his party having a black president in office for two terms.

BLM are an openly marxist organisation and between them and The Proud Boys- you are looking at the probable formation of two paramilitary organisations.

I don’t understand how anyone can think this is good for the country.

          5. Oro

Well I guess that answers my question. You do just get up in the morning and say things. Like, just random thoughts that come into your brain.

  7. Aegis

When is Broadsheet going to stop promoting this conspiracy garbage? It’s been going on for far too long with covid and masks, and now this.
Or can BS introduce a way to block Bodger, for those of us who are sick and tired of this crap cluttering up the feed?

    1. V AKA Frilly Keane

      Ah here
Isn’t there enough conspiracy threads threats n’ triggers around here without you starting an even bigger blaze

      Block Bodger ?!?!
      MOG
I never heard the likes of it in me entire ‘sheet life

Away ou’ that and don’t be drawing the kinda morning sickness on us that has nothing to show at the end of it

      1. Jimmy TwoShoes

I think you’ll have to agree V that in the last while there are more and more instances of people saying things that we’ve never heard in our entire ‘sheet life
