And where is their wonderful vaccine then?

The longer this goes on the more it smells like the inside of a nappy.

    1. ReproBertie

      FFS.

China has 4 vaccines in the final stages of development. They have not started vaccination programmes yet. You know exactly what the story is with the vaccines but, as usual, you ignore what you know just to post something vaguely negative.

      1. Andrew

I wouldn’t trust any claims the Chinese make with regard to vaccines. Their attitude to human rights and their humanity in general I’d seriously question.
The EU should be sanctioning them and introducing tariffs.

What they get away with is really shocking. Nobody seems to care.

      2. GiggidyGoo

Not true according to this…. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/nov/20/china-has-given-almost-a-million-people-experimental-covid-vaccine-says-company

“Chinese authorities released the vaccine, developed by China National Pharmaceutical Group (Sinopharm), to select groups of people in July including Chinese government officials, students, and workers travelling overseas, before the vaccines had been proven to work.”

That’s a vaccination programme. More than a million have been vaccinated.

        1. ReproBertie

Opening paragraph of that article: Almost a million people in China have taken an emergency Covid-19 vaccine that is still in its testing phase, the company that developed the vaccine has said.

          Emergency vaccine. Still in testing.

          1. Bill Mc cabe

mind You the €14.1 million sent on dodgy ventilators that we spent shows how depressing it is for the Chinese
I wonder will we ever see a refund

          1. ReproBertie

Do you understand that a question mark indicates a question?

Is “yes they have?” a question? If so, what are you asking and who?

If you have reports of Chinese vaccination programmes then please enlighten us. All the reports I have seen say their vaccines are still in development. I would be particularly interested to know where air cabin crew fit into any such programme since this all started with you mocking their vaccine because of measures being imposed on air cabin crew.

          2. SOQ

As gigs link above- near a million people have had it- is that not a vaccination programme?

Assuming that can be believed of course- if anything out of China can be believed that is.

          3. ReproBertie

As per Gig’s link above those were emergency doses of a vaccine that is still in test, administered to .006% of the population of China. For all we know, that is part of the testing phase.

It certainly isn’t evidence of a mass vaccination programme that includes air cabin crew.

Oh you poor darling. How shall you cope with all those awful masks?

No one would blame you for needing therapy for such a traumatic experience.

        1. f_lawless

You don’t sound the most empathic with that comment, Millie. Haven’t you stopped to consider the psychological impact these measures are having on the most vulnerable in society? For example, by having made mandatory mask-wearing a part of public health policy, we’re instilling adult fears and anxieties onto children and adolescents to an unnecessary degree, inevitably doing damage to their psychosocial development which may negatively affect them for years to come.

Some will cope/are coping better than others, but case in point was the traumatised young child with a mask depicted in a piece of art posted yesterday by Broadsheet. What will the mental state be of the most vulnerable be another year down the line of mandatory masks? Where’s the evidence masks are having the intended benefits since their introduction?

In any healthy democracy, imposing such radical public health policy measures would require a high standard of scientific evidence that any potential benefits would outweigh the negative impacts. That’s why the likes of Sweden chose not to enforce mask-wearing upon their citizens. Such evidence isn’t there.

In Ireland, however, our health authorities are being guided by the politicised science promoted by the WHO, whereby the most robust scientific evidence available on masks (in the form of RCTs) is ignored and policy is based on suspect observational studies.

          1. Brother Barnabas

are we not supposed to keep the unsubstantiated, alarmist, sensational conjecture – and that’s the first paragraph alone – for the weekend?

and, hey, before you attack me… I’m just asking questions

          2. bisted

…how you can construe the young girl wearing a mask in an amazing picture by her sister was in any way traumatised is self-serving, even by your standards…

          3. ReproBertie

“Where’s the evidence masks are having the intended benefits since their introduction?”

There are at least two studies showing masks have resulted in reduced cases.

          4. f_lawless

            @bisted

“how you can construe the young girl wearing a mask in an amazing picture by her sister was in any way traumatised is self-serving, even by your standards”

It’s hard to believe you just wrote that. That you are oblivious to what the artist was trying to convey about her younger sister’s trauma speaks volumes

What makes it even more ridiculous is the artist herself even spelled it out:

“In this portrait of my younger sister Ellen, I hope viewers will recognise how children are deeply affected by this pandemic. This will be an experience that stays with them forever. Being isolated from your friends for so long is not healthy. I want people to see this. I also hope to evoke thoughts about normality. Is the mask normal?”

          5. Brother Barnabas

does the adverb ‘also’ in the artist’s last paragraph not clearly indicate that the ‘trauma’ relates to the pandemic – not the mask wearing. we all find the pandemic traumatic.

you’ve twisted her words for your own agenda

            a child’s words. nice.

          6. f_lawless

            @Brother Barnabas

Erik Erikson’s Theory of Psychosocial Development is one of the bed rocks of modern child psychology. By instilling adult fears in them and forcing them to wear masks, social distance, they can develop role confusion, feel lost and form an identity crisis.

            https://thewallwillfall.org/2020/05/14/covid-19-back-to-school-the-new-normal-is-to-traumatise-children/

“There are different stages during a child’s upbringing according to psychoanalyst Erik Erikson’s theory of psychosocial development. During each stage a child needs to overcome a psychosocial challenge/crisis.

For example, during the Industry vs. Inferiority stage of children between ages 5-12, schools and teachers influence the child’s development the most and the basic virtue of the child is to achieve competence.

If children are offered recognition for what they can achieve they will feel industrious and become hard workers. If they receive negative feedback and/or held back then they can feel inferior and lose motivation, leading to developmental inertia.

In the 5th stage of Ego Identity vs. Role Confusion, the adolescent learns the many social roles they are a part of (i.e., friend, student, citizen, etc). If the adolescent is encouraged to go out and explore they can form identity.

If they’re pressured to confirm to beliefs of others or held back then they can develop role confusion, feel lost and an identity crisis. If they do not overcome this crisis successfully then leading into the next stage of Intimacy vs. Isolation (18-40 years), they may not be able to form intimate relationships with others and are at risk of falling into isolation and feeling lonely.”

          7. Brother Barnabas

again, are there any studies showing that requiring teenagers – and, as far as I’m aware, it’s teens not pre-teens – to wear masks negatively affects their psychosocial development ?

          8. Broadbag

More alarmist maskflake nonsense, how some people manage to put one foot in front of the other is beyond me considering how traumatised they ‘appear’ to be by a simple request to occasionally wear a piece of cloth over their gobs. A year, 2 years, who cares if it’s for the greater good? Time some ‘adults’ grow up.

          9. f_lawless

I posted this comment last August. One of the few studies done regarding the psychological impact on vulnerable people caused by enforced mask wearing during the pandemic -though not specifically focused on children.

“A German psychological study with about 1000 participants found “severe psychosocial consequences” due to the introduction of mandatory face masks in Germany..”

          10. SOQ

It is not just a simple request to occasionally wear a piece of cloth over their gobs Broadbag and you know it.

It is a demand for children to wear something which by its very nature will restrict their breathing for the most of eight hours a day. You have no idea what psychological impact this may have- because it has never been tried before.

          11. SOQ

So placing three layers of cloth across a child’s mouth and nose is not restricting their breathing now is it?

            Cop on.

“So private covid tests cannot be trusted, according to the HSE Chief”

Since he didn’t actually say that the rest of your.post is moot.

      1. GiggidyGoo

Dont be putting my words into his mouth, and quoting them as his. Deflection, distraction etc.

“Private Covid tests may not detect virus and shouldn’t be treated as a Christmas quick-fix, HSE chief warns.” is the headline.
So, they can’t be trusted is what he’s saying, because they may not detect the virus. Plus he’s singled out ‘private tests’. Maybe he’s opened up the HSE to litigation now.
My post stands. Yours is just an attempt to deflect, distract, muddy the waters.

        1. Cian

          @GG
Dont be putting my words into his mouth, and quoting them as his.
I didn’t do this either. *you* twisted what he said. He didn’t say private covid tests cannot be trusted. Airports weren’t mentioned.

Go watch the video in your link. It’s 75 seconds long.

They were asked a specific question – “Some families are looking at the possibility of people in the family being tested to be minimise risk for say elderly relatives. Do you see a role for this?”.

Paul Reid answered saying the test isn’t a protective measure as it only applies to a moment in time and may not detect the virus due to an incubation period.

He then repeated the current manta: minimise the number of people you meet, if you’re feeling unwell avoid people, etc.

…the demonisation of China is widespread across western media and I’m surprised Moynes has been taken in by the Daily Telegraph…why is it that a secular state such as China is vilified for clamping down on militant islam while Western leaders like Macron are lauded for merely reacting to jihadis…China had an advanced civilisation thousands of years before Paris or London…

    1. ReproBertie

      “clamping down on militant islam”

What a polite way of describing the arbitrary internment in “re-education camps” of a religious minority.

      1. bisted

…good man Bertie…didn’t think you’d be taken in by the relentless diet of racism and xenophobia from the Torygraph…remember they broke the news about Ryanair going to charge for using the toilet on planes…no doubt that gave endless material for vignettes not to mention putting ideas into the head of O’Leary…

        1. ReproBertie

I don’t get any of my news from the Torygraph.

There is no question over the existence of the camps and the arbitrary internment of the Uighurs and other Muslims.
