    Tony says:

“(It’s) too early to say whether those who have NOT been vaccinated could be denied entry to mass gatherings”

Umm, with 18-34 year old resting at number 14th on the list of priority people of who get the jab, that might not work.

Not unless the line up for Electric Picnic literally goes “old school” this year.

    Actually that might be alright…

    1. Brother Barnabas

neighbour of mine is in the Cabinet. told me they’re actually referring (secretly) to Electric Picnic as Mass Vaccination Event 101. plan is to rack lines of the vaccine on the back of an old iphone 4 and just pass it round. the likes of yourself, soq, f_lawless, giggidy – you’ll be horsing it into yourselves.

          1. Brother Barnabas

the ones who can see beyond the lies and propaganda fed to the sheeple by the scheming elite ?

          2. SOQ

Trying to paint everyone who has concerns about an untested technology in a rushed vaccine as anti-vaxx is at best disingenuous, especially from someone who claims to already have had CoVid-19 and therefore doesn’t need it in the first place.

          3. Brother Barnabas

I’ll be getting it as soon as I can, soq – unfortunately being a young, fit and healthy sexbomb of a lad, I’ll be way down the schedule

          4. SOQ

Why? All any vaccine will do is bring you to the post infection stage anyways. Any medics I know have had the antibody test before even considering it.

          5. SOQ

But if you are of the 80% who were infected and never knew, then how would you know WHEN you were infected?

I know someone who had a test recently and it came back antibody positive. He is a paramedic and will not be taking any vaccine now. His employer will not be asking him to either- because there is no reason for him to do so.

      1. Micko

A man has concerns over safety of a vaccine that’s been tested for only a few months using a brand new technology and he is labelled “anti-vax.”

Even though he’s vaccinated, his children are vaccinated and Jonas Salk is one of his personal heroes.

That’s it folks, that’s the world we live in now. All nuance removed by these bullies.

@Brother – your Tom Cruise is showing. Tuck it in

          1. Micko

Ah well Calling people stupid again are we?

It’s seems to be your MO when you hear something you don’t like.

            Child

        1. Rob_G

Maybe people would find that more believable if you didn’t spend your whole day posting anti-science rhetoric on the internet.

          1. Rob_G

“You seem to think you know a lot about me there Rob” – you have literally posted hundreds of comments promoting parotting conspiracy theories about the coronavirus, so it’s not as if I don’t have enough material to work with to arrive at this conclusion.

          2. Micko

I literally know nothing about you Rob. Not saying that to be mean – just that everyone blends into one on here. ;)

Also, I think you may be confusing me with some others on here.

I don’t think anything I’ve ever said is a conspiracy theory.

          3. GiggidyGoo

Rob, in all fairness, you have a problem taking in, and understanding “material”, even when it’s laid out in simple terms for you. When you can’t take it in or can’t understand it, you just dig yourself a bigger hole.

          4. Rob_G

Well, someone called “Micko” posts conspiracy theory talking points about corona virus and lockdowns several times per day; if you are in fact a new “Micko”, rather than the one that posts here daily for several months, consider the remark cheerfully withdrawn.

@Giggidy – it’s difficult to understand your material because you yourself use the terms “first-preference votes”, “share of popular vote” and “number of seats” interchangeably, and switch them around at will without telling anyone which one you mean,

          5. Micko

            Sorry Rob, Same Micko.

But again I think you should check your facts. I have posted no conspiracy theories

Anyway – Dr Fart’s opinion is similar to mine. Can you go and attack him now

            Ta

          6. Rob_G

GG: Because 44% refers to the popular vote, not 1st preferences – they are not the same thing.

Micko: well, i see that there are a whole four comments on that page, so maybe that’s why no-one has responded to Fart. I have stated my opinion on this poster on many occasions. You seem to be getting your nose out of joint because people are calling you out about your hysterical comments about ‘jackboots’ – let Fart worry about defending his nonsense himself, you just worry about defending your own conspiracy-posting.

          7. benblack

Going to stick my oar in here.

Rob_G is a person whose opinions I disagree with mostly on this site. Even when presented with evidence and logic that most right-minded people would accept as reasonable doubt he stubbornly sticks to his opinion.

He is intransigent in the most trivial of matters and never concedes even when olive branches supplant logic.

Micko, on the other hand, is someone who is well intentioned, intelligent and able to accept when he gets it wrong.

            Micko is not wrong here.

    2. SOQ

Mr Holohan really does fancy himself in the old jackboots eh? It’s not going to happen Tony- ever- crawl back under your rock.

      1. Micko

        A jackboot indeed.

That’s why the “do as I say” crowd on here love him.

They can smell one of their own. ;)

          1. Brother Barnabas

            “jackboot”

“the do as I say crowd”

            “smell one of their own”

and you’re calling me a child, micko?

you’re an unfortunate blend of ignorance, stupidity and arrogance

          2. Micko

            Excellent @Brother

So, you agree with the good Doctor and myself – prudence around a brand new vaccine that was quickly tested and that uses technology that has never been used before is extremely sensible.

I knew that, because I thought about it and reasoned it to be so.
You called me stupid and an idiot on several occasions.

You needed a Doctor to confirm it and to tell you what to think.

Can you see where you are going wrong?

          3. Brother Barnabas

I was joking, micko – I dont even think he really is a doctor

in all seriousness – and this is the last thing I’ll say, promise – you’re going full silly. you’re not meant to ever go full silly.

          4. Micko

            That word is offensive @Brother.

My nephew has learning difficulties and has been branded that word by other bullies in his school.

You’re really showing yourself up today to be the bully you are.

Thinking that you’re smarter than everyone else. You really are a nasty little man.

          5. Johnny

the landlord bro who supports “people before profit” , whats on the drinkypoo menu today-any suggestions on bitters bro….

          6. Brother Barnabas

again, johnny, I’m not a landlord. really dont know where youve got this idea or why you continue (repeatedly) to state it. it’s kind of odd. you’re correct about me being a PBP supporter, though.

          7. Cian

            @Micko
The current Covid vaccines didn’t have less testing (per phase) than previous vaccines getting to market. The Covid testing was just done more efficiently.

There is a huge amount of bureaucracy in large companies and to get internal approval to spend money on trials needs business cases and analysis and all kinds of waiting for managers signioffs; and budget approval; and all kinds of red-tape.

The Covid vaccine is different for these companies as it cuts through all the internal red-tape and gets priority from the CEO down. Phase 2 testing could begin days after Phase 1 was completed – whereas with other medicines it might thake months (or years) before you’d get approval to proceed..

Similarly, the government regulators were waiting for the companies to submit their vaccines and started processing them immediately.

          8. Micko

            @Rob

He claimed to be a doctor to me before when he was lecturing me about something.

So YOU say he’s just a liar. That’s a shame.

Still my point is still relevant – now go attack him.

But you won’t… you guys are biased. If someone you like expresses an opinion you don’t agree with – free pass.

But, if someone you already have a preconceived opinion on does it – it’s all guns blazing.

          9. Rob_G

@ Micko – I will pick and choose which arguments I get into – thanks all the same.

You keep talking about ‘preconceived’ notions, like we are judging you unfairly based on your ethnicity or social class or something, rather than the posts that you make on the site (even on this self-same post -“jackboot”).

Post whatever you like, but don’t throw your toys out of the pram when someone calls you up over it.

          10. Johnny

Oh what a tangled web we weave when we set out….
Perhaps it’s the daily boasts with charger on what’s the best bitters to use, while on your sojourn in sunny Spain you repeatedly claimed be a landlord, boasting about your LARGE tax payments, brother big mouth.
You add nothing, just a bitter lonely oul lad on here all day every day-why?
            Freddie no frie…

          11. Brother Barnabas

            1. i have never engaged in any boasting – daily or otherwise – about what are the “best bitters to use”. i dont even know what that means.

            2. i have never claimed to be a landlord. ever. i have never been a landlord. i have nothing against landlords, but I am not one. that’s all.

            3. i do pay quite a lot of tax. of course, these things are relative – what’s “a lot” to some would be very little to others. to me it’s a lot. but I’m fine with it.

          12. benblack

            Perfect example of Rob_G.

You seriously believe you are a different class of human – superior.

No wonder BB is an acolyte.

          13. Micko

“I will pick and choose which arguments I get into – thanks all the same.”

Oh I know you do Rob. I know you do

You guys are nothing if not inconsistent

          14. benblack

Ah, BB, you’ve been a right shít lately.

And, I do remember you stating you had a number of rental properties.

I’m not going to scrape the site.

          15. Brother Barnabas

you’re right about the poo bit

not about the rental properties. I never said that – never never never never never.

          16. benblack

I’m sure it was you in relation to a different matter regarding the properties.

I believe it was an interaction with Charger that a portfolio came to light.

As I said, I have not scraped the site, and would not like to associate you with something that you are not actually associated, however, unfortunately, my recollection is that is was you.

Remember, it’s a recollection not an accusation.

          17. Janet, dreams of an alternate universe

I understood trade portfolio…you know stocks in tiny parts in tesla cars or the new battery the Canadian /indian lad has come up with with the semi solid conducter or whatever

          18. Brother Barnabas

maybe I commented about properties (but dont remember if I did) but not ‘rental’ properties. I’m not a landlord and never have been.

        1. SOQ

Mad ins’t it? All it took was a dodgy virus from China that 4 out of 5 don’t even now they have and all the authoritarian creepys come crawling out of the woodwork.

One thing you can be certain of- they are not the ones losing their jobs and their businesses and soon their homes.

          1. Brother Barnabas

the Pfizer boss isnt taking it…

the same Pfizer boss that’s quoted in the article you linked to saying:

“As soon as I can, I will,” he said. But he added that he doesn’t want executives to “cut the line” and set a bad example.
“I’m 59 years old, in good health, I’m not working on the frontline, so my type it is not recommended to get vaccination now,” he explained.”

serious question, goo… why are you doing this?

          2. GiggidyGoo

It’s one dose out of billions (maybe) of doses. And you’re trying to excuse the boss of the company that has been involved in its development, from not taking it? Wouldn’t you think that by
            a) taking it, he would gain the trust of his customers?
            b) not taking it, his potential customers would question its safety?

“As soon as I can, I will”? He can take it immediately. He won’t.

Why are you trusting such a person?

          3. scottser

ah now gigs, that guy would be criticised far more heavily if he took it without being a priority for it. out of the two positions, he’s taking the more defensible as there are government rollout guidelines to cover his botty with.

          4. GiggidyGoo

Ah no he wouldn’t Scottser. Sure aren’t Tubs, Byrne, Donnelly all lining up to do mini TV series on it? “I’m a Celebrity, Give me the Vaccination”

          5. SOQ

“I’m a Celebrity, Get me Vaxxed outa here”

Has a certain ring to it and sure if they keel over- what odds?

          6. ( ̄_, ̄ ) AKA Frilly Keane

That Pfizer boss – That’s called Leadership boys

and bloody great corporate PR from Exec level in an industry not known for good Governance Standards

            You know
Some of ye here look more and more like those saps that put money on Trump after the election

            the Vaccine is out there
            People are taking it
companies are going to sell it

            its over

now find something else to fetishize

  2. V AKA Frilly Keane

That pic on the ‘Xaminer there

The lads on the trollies watching the Minors

    Pic of year

For the year that was in it
That says it all – sums up 2020
    For me anyway

    No matter what
We (not you Leo & Co btw)
    We – the royal we
    Figured it out ourselves

    1. Nigel

‘The lads on the trollies watching the Minors’

Even though I’d seen the photo I thought you must be talking about one taken in an ER or a hospital car park…

  3. E'Matty

What exactly is the bloody point of vaccination certificates if one can still be infected and transmit the virus? A Certificate of Obedience perhaps? This clear logic gap in the proposal really exposes the fact these certs are simply the indirect route to mandating digital biometric IDs for every person on the planet. Of course, the mindless sheep don’t even consider this logical contradiction so keen are they to display their obedience as a badge of honour.

      1. E'Matty

are you a complete imbecile that you think such a basic logical question is beyond the Pale? Actually, don’t answer that, we already know the answer…

    1. SOQ

As per usual Matty the authoritarian knuckle draggers are salivating at the dream of such control but also as per usual- the technology does not live up to it’s name

There is no way they can prevent the provision of services based on a vaccination status when said vaccinations offers no guarantee of inoculation in the first place.

      1. Junkface

Who are these Authoritarian knuckle draggers? That doesn’t sound very typical of the Irish. In fact having lived in Germany for over 3 years I would say in general the Irish are borderline anarchists compared to most Europeans. Being authoritarian (or a wannabe) goes against all of my experiences as an Irish person, especially of other Irish people. We are rule breakers at almost every turn.

        1. Janet, dreams of an alternate universe

ever lived in Zurich, they don’t need police, the neighbors police each other, you put out the wrong bin one time….

          1. Junkface

Ha ha! I’ve never been to Zurich, but I have heard similar things from friends in work who have lived there. I can spot non Germans easily in my area, as they do not wait for the green man light at the traffic lights when the road is completely empty. This really baffles me, I mean there are no cars, no police around, go for it!

Of course, on busy roads I wait for the traffic lights, or if in front of children.

          2. Janet, dreams of an alternate universe

and in Paris waiting for the right to cross marks you off as an instant tourist !

          3. Junkface

My first trip to Paris with school, we were messing around and taking photos on a famous bridge, I was trying to start a mexican wave and fell backwards into an armed policeman. I reached out to grab something to stop myself falling… I grabbed the policeman’s machine gun! He quickly checked the safety switches before shouting ‘Non’ very loudly and giving me the ultimate stink eye. I almost kacked my 15 year old pants. Terrified!

            Ah…Paris!

      2. scottser

SOQ, when you sow division like this it only helps the chinese communist party in their quest for world domination. you are being manipulated my friend.
        WAKE UP SHEEPLE!!

    1. Charger Salmons

Even better news is that she’ll also be recruiting another Whitmore next year.
      Congratulations Laura and Iain.
      Marvellous.

  4. SOQ

Fine bit of spin from The Irish Mail.

Mentions PCR ‘cases’ which is a random figure to begin with, and then the deaths WITH CoVid-19 and then- how many unrelated on trolleys.

It conveniently ignores the fact that as of today there is 198 people in hospital which is down well over 100 less than a month ago.

    1. Cian

Yes. The Irish level 3 lockdowns then the 5 lockdown was successful at bringing the number of cases down, the number hospitalised down, the number of deaths down.

If we hadn’t locked down, there is a good chance we would be like Italy. If you look a the shape of the deaths/million in Italy and Ireland you can see they were very similar. Their first peak was 3 weeks earlier than ours… but from May through Mid-October we had very, very similar rate of deaths.

Irish deaths plateaued at about 1/million; Italian deaths keep increasing up to 12/million.

      https://ourworldindata.org/coronavirus-data-explorer?zoomToSelection=true&time=earliest..latest&country=ITA~IRL&region=World&deathsMetric=true&interval=smoothed&perCapita=true&smoothing=7&pickerMetric=total_deaths_per_million&pickerSort=desc

      1. SOQ

I can produce stats which say the exact opposite about lockdowns- like Wales- but what is the point eh Cian? NI’s circuit breaker didn’t exactly ‘break the circuit’ ether. It is nearly like it is doing it’s own thing regardless- imagine that?

        No- you probably can’t.

        1. Nigel

It’s almost as if you’re woefully unqualified to analyse the data since epidemiological surveys of reponses and outcomes in different countries should give us the best picture of how the disease works.

          1. Brother Barnabas

with all due respect, Cian, you’re linking official, corroborated and verifiable data – like, yeah, great

but not a single YouTube video, no anecdotal accounts and not even a Tweet from someone called Moongoose or CharlieH.

and you expect to be taken seriously ?

        2. Junkface

Ireland is doing pretty well compared to other EU countries. Especially Germany, which during the first wave was doing very well. So well that some people didn’t think their was a pandemic, then people got very complacent, went on anti-mask marches multiple times, especially the young and middle classes. So they travelled all over Europe for holidays in the summer, Spain, Italy, Turkey (all virus hotspots), came home, had lots of house parties, now look at the picture. Germany is in bad shape, hospitals are filling up. 900 or so dead yesterday.

Then look at Sweden, they are a mess. Admitting mistakes and misjudgment now, never had a serious lockdown, 800% to 1200% more people dead than their neighbours. Plus their economy is not fairing too well either. They got the worst of both worlds.

It seems that many countries got this wrong, evidently it’s a hard thing to get right.

          1. SOQ

Ireland is doing pretty well compared to other EU countries. Especially Germany, which during the first wave was doing very well.

Maybe the clue is in your statement? Places which got hit badly first time tend to be better this time around as less transmittable hosts available perhaps?

As for Sweden- yes it has a spike but so has many other places, it’s a seasonal viruses for goodness sake but Sweden will just not be forgiven for not towing the Chinese line- now will it?

    1. Charger Salmons

Of course this is entirely unconnected to the fact that former Prime Minister Tony Abbott who destroyed Rudd in a general election and ended his political career is now a UK trade advisor.
Kevin the carrot – an Aussie whine made from sour grapes.

      1. Brother Barnabas

stretching things a little there, charger – lateral thinking’s equivalence to an atomic wedgie

        1. Charger Salmons

Perhaps Kevin was thinking of the EU/USA trade deal that’s going nowhere after a decade and more of talks.

          Heh x Wollonia …

    1. Janet, dreams of an alternate universe

yeah this thread is a bad start to the day, I might actually have to stop procrastinating and be productive

      1. Rosette of Sirius

Had a very busy and positive day today Engaged a little about eggs, yoghurt and music. Scrolled to the bottom of the thread to read repre was doing a legger, so not scrolling up. My good day continues. Marvelous.

  5. spud

Jaysus, I couldn’t even get past that story in Cork of that poor 3 year old boy.

What sort of future does he have?
And so many others would long to have and love children.
