“270,000 may still be jobless by end of 2021” is not exactly an explosive exposé. I wonder what’s the reason for the Examiner embargoing the article?

      Poor Emmanuel Macron.
Tested positive for Covid-19 and because the very old have to be protected it means he can’t even get a pegging off his missus …

Given that Antrim hospital is just 17 miles up the best motorway in Northern Ireland, from the two largest NI hospitals in Belfast- it is fairly safe to assume that the issue which arose was not of overall NHS capacity but one of administration and planning- it happens.

Looks great for the old scaremongering optics but as per usual with CoVid-19- there is more to the story than at first glance.

        1. Nigel

Yeah as if people are unaware of how crucial administration and planning are to pandemic response and how they can ameliorate or exacerbate outcomes. You’re infantilising yourself

            https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2020/dec/16/on-brink-covid-pressure-mounts-hospitals-northern-ireland-wales
“On Wednesday, the situation in Northern Ireland eased, with hospitals admitting new patients, but with hospitals at 105% capacity and infection rates rising, health experts made dire predictions about coming weeks.
“The die is cast on this … there is going to be a nightmare within the health service in the next three to six weeks,” Tom Black, the chair of the British Medical Association in Northern Ireland, told RTE.
He worried that doctors could face moral and ethical decisions they had not been trained for, and said Northern Ireland may need help from the Republic of Ireland.”

          2. f_lawless

A chronically underfunded and under-resourced NHS? It was a similar situation in 2018.

            https://www.bbc.com/news/health-42572116

‘Patients are dying in hospital corridors as safety is compromised by “intolerable” conditions, doctors say.

The warning has been issued in a letter to the prime minister signed by 68 senior A&E doctors, spelling out the danger patients are facing this winter.

..in Northern Ireland the Antrim Area Hospital has had to bring in St John Ambulance volunteers to help with a surge in demand.'”

Who would have thought just a few months ago in the summer that come Christmas there’d be makeshift morgues for California, Germany facing a full lockdown to Easter and Seoul left with just three critical care beds – while over in dear old Blighty they’ve vaccinated 138,000 people in a week.
And as I’ve been predicting since last December there looks to be a ‘ last-minute ‘ Brexit compromise being thrashed out.
Quite an end to what has been a tumultuous year.
We’d originally planned to be jetting off to the Caribbean about now – Dickenson Bay in Antigua – but even though it’s possible we’ve decided to postpone it till the Spring to do our bit to help the country’s fight against the virus
      Every little helps I suppose.

Its a great movie! An iconic comedy written by Mel Brooks and Richard Pryor. I wish there was a version with Richard as the sheriff, even just a few scenes, That was the original plan, but the producers of the movie thought he was too wild and unreliable.

I sing that to my daughter sometimes. She thinks it’s hilarious, not that she understands any of it.

  2. Slightly Bemused

I am blaming you, Admin! I have managed to avoid it until now, but I wanted to watch something silly. And an article in the papers made the choice.

    Sorry, janet.

    Mamma Mia it is!

      1. millie bobby brownie

She’s amazing and incredibly sexy in that Does Your Mother Know That You’re Out? number.

Feck it. Mamma Mia is great.

  3. Clampers Outside

Daily Star front page is spot on… Imagine how stuck one must be for entertainment to voluntarily stick them on.

It’s especially plop when most ordinary musicians are struggling at the moment, I’m sure there are much wiser and more beneficial ways this money could be spend to support and encourage those musicians rather than throwing money at the monied.

On an unrelated note – and pardon my stupidity (you’ve never apologised for it before sez you) – how can Paddy Campbell “own” Bewley’s and John Ronan be the landlord ?

  4. scottser

Well that’s me done with Spotify. They won’t pay artists and professional musicians a decent rate but they’ll pay second hand royals that kind of wedge?

    1. Junkface

Why do funny comments and a bit of filthy craic get deleted so much?

We need this stuff for our mental health!

      Boo!

  5. GiggidyGoo

The Demiseach got very aerated yesterday in his attempt to re-write recent FFG history. The laughing stock time-share taoiseach has lost the plot. RBB got to him quite easily. Even Darragh O’Brian disowned the attempt by the Grand Old Duke Of Cork to deny that the banks got bailed out. The knives will be out for Michilín in the not too distant future.

    1. Cian

      FFG history you say?
SF voted for the bailout too. So it’s either FF history or FFGSF history.
(GiggidyGoo missing the irony as she re-writes history)

      1. GiggidyGoo

Each time you write that, I correct you. And you still try the same line months later.

On the eve of the Bank Guarantee, a calamitous situation was being painted by FF – which SF was of the opinion that it should support a bank guarantee.

Now, Cian here’s the actuality of the vote? When the supporting legislation was released two weeks later it did not support the measures. They voted against it.

Last time I corrected you, I said you should print it out and stick it up where you can see it. Obviously you prefer to lie, distract and divert.

        1. bisted

…in some EU countries such blatant denial of a historic fact would be treated as a criminal offence…certainly not the type of blatant revisionism you’d expect from the Taoiseach…

          1. Brother Barnabas

and a massive slap in the face to the hundreds of thousands of families who suffered from that FF decision – still paying for it and will be for decades to come

all the worse when you consider that Martin himself was directly involved

again shows the disdain that FF and FG have for the people of this country

        2. Brother Barnabas

and what’s this?! Our Cian – Commander-in-Chief of the FG Fraperoom – doing a nixer for FF?

          1. bisted

…he was greenwashing yesterday…watch out for a voting pact next election…they’re all in this together…who thought FG could finish a dismal third in the election but end up with their man as Taoiseach for the majority of that time…as one commenter here would put it…marvelous…

          2. ( ̄_, ̄ ) AKA Frilly Keane

            well in fairness Bro
confidence & supply works both ways

and their partners in FF haven’t put the resources into developing their online & social media departments
So they’re kinda obliged to share their own Fraperoom resources

            cooperation lads(✿◠‿◠)
            works every time

          1. GiggidyGoo

The vote was when? Two weeks after the eve. SF supported the notion on the eve, based on misinformation given by FF. The actual vote was two weeks later. No amount of divert, diversion, lies will get away from that. Save this conversation for next time you try this old lemon.

          2. Bitnboxy

Lol. Well done Cian. Nothing a transparent thick as mince Shinnerbot like Giggidybot hates more than actual facts!

When faced with uncomfortable truths Giggidybot deploys the Shinner-blinkers, then the usual range of tired insults while trying to Shinsplain using Shinnerfacts. The literal definition of alternative news.

It’s just a pity the Giggidybot’s Shinnerbotting isn’t that subtle. Someone might be getting a knock on the bedsit door by a Senior Shinner!

          3. Rob_G

Giggidy, do you want me to read you the rolls of the 28th of September when SF *voted* in favour of the bank bailout?

          4. Bitnboxy

@Rob – Waste of time introducing Giggidybot with real world facts. Giggidybot lives in a world where the provos are heros, vaccines are bad and Sinn Fein can speak and do no wrong.

            Sheesh, a real Mary Lounatick!

          5. GiggidyGoo

Rob – maybe read me the roll based on the legislation, and not the lies? I see you and Cian attracted the support of the village idiot now. Birds of a feather. ROFL

          6. Rob_G

“This legislation is about more than the banks. It is about offering security to ordinary citizens and to investors in Irish businesses which in turn means jobs. As the media speculated, other states may well follow this move by our State…my party welcomes this decisive move…I support this Bill”
Senator Pearse Doherty, Seanad Eireann, Credit Institutions (Financial Support) Bill 2008, 01 October 2008

            Vote was recorded as ‘Tá’

          7. Bitnboxy

ROFL – Giggidybot comes running faster than my Labrador although he is a tad smarter! Usual piddle poor response. That knock on the door from a Senior Shinner can’t be far off.

          8. GiggidyGoo

@Rob. I did ask for the roll relating to the vote on the legislation (not the original bill, which wasn’t exactly based on honest information). But seeing as you aren’t prepared to give it, then I will. I hope it’s not too strenuous on your grey matter. You’ll note that SF didn’t vote for the legislation. Don’t let the village idiot fill you of false confidence now.

A fail on this one Giggidybot.

        FFG history you say?
SF originally voted for the bailout alongside FF and then when they saw the detail voted against the final bill. As did FG.

So it’s either FF history or FFGSF history.

You know why you’re in moderation Rob. It’s because you’re clearly a government spy, here to report to our overlords what the common folk have been saying.

“Next year People Before Profit will bring forward legislation to end the prohibition of cannabis in Ireland,” Kenny said, “This will be the first time in eight years that a bill to legalise cannabis will be before the Dáil. Looking forward to the debate ahead in 2021.

Irish Law Enforcement officials, or Garda Síochána, reported in 2019 that they seized 462,482 grams of cannabis flower valued at €9,249,630. Garda values the roughly 1,018 pounds they seized last year at roughly 9,037 Euro. That’s almost $11,000 USD. They also seized 8,576 cannabis plants, valued at €6,860,800. And finally, for the hash enthusiasts to share in the heartbreak, 46,000 grams of hash were seized with a value of €279,000.”

New Jersey is in the process of passing cannabis legislation,so i can give Gino a nice road map to follow:)

“The Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing on a package of bills set to reform New Jersey’s marijuana laws: one to launch a marijuana industry (S21), another to lessen penalties for possessing magic mushrooms (S3256) and a third that would allow investors to put money into licenses for minorities, women and disabled veterans (S2875).”

Existing licensed medical operators will be grandfathered into the new scheme, link to all bills above.

-worked on a grow in Newark and some dispensaries in South Jersey,I may take a place in Ashbury Park for summer and get some licenses, currently building out a grow and dispensaries under lic in Massachusetts. NY is the largest weed market in world, but a summer on the boardwalk at jersey shore growing and smoking the best weed on east coast, after all this has lots of appeal.

    Congrats Jersey.

…and there it is,now binge watching The Sopranos, listing the boss:)

but all joshing side, nice roadmap for Gino.

“New Jersey is one step closer to launching legal marijuana sales as approved by voters last month after the state Assembly passed landmark legislation Thursday to establish a framework for the new market. The Senate is expected to pass an identical bill later in the afternoon, which would formally send the measure to Gov. Phil Murphy (D) for his signature.”
