Its only fitting that they have their very own, British strain of covid – none of your foreign muck please.

So we’re all waiting happily for the arrival of the vaccine in Ireland.
But when and how many ?
Apparently not any time soon and not enough is the answer according to German journalists on
    Der Spiegel.
‘ The EU appears to have bought too little, too late and at times from the wrong producers. And it appears that it turned down hundreds of millions of vaccine doses that are now lacking.
‘ No matter what happens, no significant quantities are expected before the summer.’
‘ … in Berlin and at European Union headquarters in Brussels, too little action was taken for too long, and it was often justified with complacent arguments ‘
    http://www.spiegel.de/international/europe/the-planning-disaster-germany-and-europe-could-fall-short-on-vaccine-supplies-a-3db4702d-ae23-4e85-85b7-20145a898abd
These revelations point to a catastrophic failure in competence by the EU who are belatedly trying to play catch-up by ordering huge numbers of doses in November of vaccines that other countries ordered months earlier and will receive much earlier.
I suppose it would be too much to expect Ireland’s Brussels correspondents to ask the difficult questions that their German counterparts are asking but the trouble is when you’re reporting for a poodle of a country and spent most of your time brown-nosing some EU “ contact “ to spin good news for the folks back home you don’t have a lot of spare time on your hands to do proper reporting.

        Good job for whom ?
Can you think of a single news item or tweet that Tony Connelly has ever made which has been critical of the EU or Ireland ?
He simply takes dictation in Brussels rather than investigating.
Der Spiegel is the biggest-selling weekly news magazine in Europe.
It is alleging serious incompetence and complacency by the EU which will mean months of delay in the right vaccine bring delivered which could potentially cost lives and hundreds of millions of Euros for the Irish economy.
He and the rest of the Irish media won’t mention it.
Instead, like the sillies on here, nothing matters unless it can be compared to the UK.
It’s why the EU have known they’ve had this country’s voters in their pockets since Oct 2nd 2009 and before that with the Troika bailout.
Perhaps Tony Connelly knows that too.

On the cheap gin again last night, spaffer? Your rants are noticeably less coherent when you’re hungover.

          savant

          noun

a learned person, especially a distinguished scientist.

What’s a “gormless savant” when it’s at home?

    1. Charlie

Don’t fret Tommy, we’ll be grand. If I were you I’d be a lot more concerned about your chums & relatives starving to death first. Marrrvellous!

      1. Charger Salmons

You do realise that Ireland will be just as badly affected by any disruption of transport links between the UK and the continent or are you genuinely that stupid ?
Why am I even asking that question …?

        1. Praetorian

Why are you even on this island…your veiled hatred is clear.
Go home to your wretched country or keep your snide comments to yourself….feed up reading your sneering commentary.

        2. Charlie

You “do realize” we won’t. You “do realize” there’s water between mainland Europe and this island? You “do realize” there’s sky between our friends in Europe and us? You “do realize” we’re not outcasts? You “do realize” you’re in the manure business? Marrrvellous!

          1. millie bobby brownie

Why stir the pot if the replies only piss you off?

It’s like poking a bear and then whinging about it when the bear wants to eat you.

          2. Janet, dreams of an alternate universe

there are some you know you should ignore but sometimes you just want to pick off that dirty scabby knee and see the smooth pink skin underneath…but then it’s back to square one,
better to let it fall off on its own …but soooo hard to do

          3. Cheerful Charger

I’m in fine fettle today Millie.
Just constantly surprised how few people here complain about things which directly affect them until it’s too late.
Not sure whether it’s just pure gombeenism or that ingrained inferiority complex or simply because the stuffing has been knocked out of them over the years.
This new strain is a serious situation for Ireland and Europe not just with the virus but the huge disruption in food supplies and transport links with the continent.
It compounds an already worrying rise in cases that will see Ireland go into a third lockdown and more until everyone is vaccinated which will be delayed because of the lack of action by the EU.
It’s a little more than stirring the pot.

        3. Joe F

You do realise how to use a question mark correctly at the end of a sentence? Like the previous sentence old boy! You obviously were out of school that day in high infants.

    2. Brother Barnabas

oh dear, not unsurprisingly, the little englanders arent taking the news that they’ve been banned from the rest of europe too well

      chin up, charger

at least this time it’s not due to your drunken hooliganism, eh?

The UK has one of the highest covid death rates in the world.

      “Get Brexit done” anyone?

Better a poodle than a donkey

    4. ReproBertie

“But when and how many ?”

Ireland has secured 14 million doses and expects to have the entire country done by May.

        1. Charger Salmons

Begorrah certainly has his finger on the pulse.
Trouble is the pulse belongs to a Norwegian Blue Python.
          And he is no more.
He ceased to be in January.
He’s expired and gone to meet his maker.
          He’s a stiff.Bereft of
          life
          He rests in peace.

          Heh,heh,heh.

    1. Brother Barnabas

      a “disappointment”?

you had high hopes for her?

although, as bad as she is, she’s one of the better ones in that government

      1. GiggidyGoo

Yes, BB. I did have high hopes for her – if you’d paid attention here over the past while, you’d have seen my praise for her contribution during the brexit talks, her manner on british media, and I even had her tipped to be the first female leader of FG. Her performance over the Woulfe affair opened my eyes though. I was surprised about how she let herself be used by Varadkar and Flanagan to their ends. Her ducking and diving was embarrassing to witness, and now this – a repeat? Yes, she has turned out to be quite a disappointment.

        1. bisted

…I think the reason why the shinners and others were so keen to get her to answer questions was her reputation for answering those questions in a truthful, straightforward way…sadly, she seems to have received the second inoculation of the politician vaccine…

          1. GiggidyGoo

Yes. The thing though is that she was hung out to dry by Varadkar & Flanagan. They got their man in, and avoided any questioning themselves. She took one for the Party and she knows what was done to her. I’m surprised she’s doing it again – well not really, after the first showing.

          2. bisted

…I think she took one for the party the time she held the umbrella for Varadkar…she sealed her fate then and reaffirmed Coveneys place…subserviant to the party…

          3. GiggidyGoo

Talking about Coveney – he seems to be the only one of FFGr that has a real handle on what’s happening as regards Brexit, his ministerial responsibility. If you look at him speaking live on TV in an interview, there are rarely notes being read – he knows his stuff more or less and can speak without prompt cards/notes. No waffle, just facts. Compare that to Varadkar or Martin. He leaves them standing. He’s the leader that FG never had over the past 10+ years. He’s actually the choice of leader for the majority of the party faithful.

          4. bisted

…Oliver Callen summed up Coveney to a tee…the invisible man…and Varadkar has silenced McEntee exactly the same way…promoted her to her level of inefficiency…

    2. V AKA Frilly Keane

      I had high hopes
      Still do
      Kinda

But more in the tune with what Brother says
She one of the best ones in that Cabinet
      If she was let

      Catherine Martin as well tbh
Who Should have been first and only choice for Ed

    3. Joe

Rotten to the FFFGGP core , it stinks of McEntee getting her instructions to slip the legislation in under the radar from Leo the Leak.

  2. TMan

Is this just another massive miss calculation by bozo. As the second strain isn’t more infectious it’s just spreading rapidly and used this as an excuse to fear monger the public into following guidelines better but like everything this clown does he didnt consider the wider complications

  3. Charger Salmons

If it’s another miscalculation why is the rest of Europe so fearful if it spreading ?
The UK has reported this new strain to the WHO and taken immediate action.
Snap polls in the UK also show widespread approval for the Tier 4 action.
Try to think of the possible effects on this country and the number of Irish people from London and the South-East who have travelled home for Christmas, because if Blighty sneezes then Ireland gets a full-blown infection.

    1. Brother Barnabas

relax – turns out the toxic virus detected in the Brits is nothing to do with Covid19. just part of their DNA. been there forever. still, you wouldnt want to catch it: instills a predilection for drunken hooliganism, boorishness, petty nationalism and dishonesty.

      heh heh heh x larks

    You’re a silly boo.

    1. bisted

…right again Charger…Blighty didn’t have to lift a finger before being isolated by the pesky EU…and Scotland…batten down the hatches…

    2. Joe F

Since England is such a good country. why have you chosen to live in Ireland? Simple question, but of course you won’t answer it. Why? Because there is no answer old sport! You know, I was watching some clips of Trump last night, and he reminds me of you in so many ways. He was asked questions that he obviously had no answer to, and his response was to call the reporter a nasty person and all sorts of names. At one point, he clearly can’t handle it and walks away for about 10 seconds. You’re the same old boy, you just ignore most of what is going on around you, and focus totally on the parts you want to! That would be great if life was like that. But you’re from the Daily Express brigade, they really are a complete joke of a paper, well they give me a good laugh the way they report on things! Anyway, some poll somewhere says Bozo is ahead so that’s the most important thing. Marvelous.

Well done to the Dublin ladies, All Ireland champions, who displayed phenomenal skills yesterday. Four-in-a-row and six-in-a-row. Up the Dubs.

    1. ReporBertie

They were a class apart in the 2nd half. Brilliant stuff really. And the 6 in a row gives the rest of the country something to moan about for a few months.

Winter Solstice happiness to you all…

    Winter’s Cloak
    by Joyce Rupp

This year I do not want
    the dark to leave me.
    I need its wrap
    of silent stillness,
    its cloak
    of long lasting embrace.
    Too much light
    has pulled me away
    from the chamber
    of gestation.

    Let the dawns
    come late,
    let the sunsets
    arrive early,
    let the evenings
    extend themselves
    while I lean into
    the abyss of my being.

Let me lie in the cave
    of my soul,
    for too much light
    blinds me,
    steals the source
    of revelation.

    Let me seek solace
    in the empty places
    of winter’s passage,
    those vast dark nights
that never fail to shelter me.

Fiddling while London burns. And anyone who uses the word “helmed” is a pretentious bell end.
