‘Do It, Mike’ [Updated]

Oh.

Earlier…

This afternoon.

US President Donald Trump says his vice-president, Mike Pence, has the power to reject the formal confirmation of Joe Biden as the next president.

Via USA Today…

Pence’s constitutional role of presiding over the Senate includes the obligation of declaring during a joint session of Congress Wednesday that President-elect Joe Biden received more Electoral College votes than Trump.

It will be the biggest break with Trump yet for the ever-loyal Pence.

Trump, who continues to arguethat he won the election, has urged Pence to unilaterally reject state-certified results that show that Biden won the Electoral College, 306-232.

Trump has asserted Pence has the option of blocking Congress from formally accepting the results. However, Pence has informed the president that he intends to carry out his constitutional role and that he does not believe the law gives him the authority to do otherwise

If Trump was a real grown up instead of a whinging man-baby he would have conceded defeat and pushed Georgia republicans to get out and vote to try and prevent the Democrats from taking control of the Senate.

Instead he put loyalty to Trump ahead of loyalty to anything else and the Republican party will have only themselves to blame if, as is looking likely, the two Georgia seats go the way of the Democrats.

  2. Junkface

This is all so mental! Good God! The men in white coats need to take Trump away before the shootings start. Unbelievably irresponsible from him.

  3. Nigel

You know what might make this actually work? All that proof from white-hat hackers of massive elecetion fraud that Trump is, remarkably, refusing to make public.

          1. ReproBertie

Imminent as in today or as in before Joe’s inauguration or as in before Joe’s term ends?

          2. Nigel

Even if Pence refuses to certify, it’s just an anti-democratic attempt at minority rule without this amazing evidence Trump is withholding.

          3. Haroo

I literally just saw a screenshot of a tweet on another website that said this. Calling Patriots to trust the plan and that info would be released imminently that will be critical and that patriots will need to stay focused and be ready.

Then some space cadet replied saying God’s hand was on the plan. Finally another guy replied saying that they have been saying this for 3 years and that he/she is starting to think it is all a load of muck and that there is no plan.

The original tweet was from Qanon. Bodge, are you a Qanon fan boy?

          4. Rosette of Sirius

Of course Bodge has been a fanboi for years now….. The 2016 election was very insightful and we all saw behind the curtain.

Trump’s efforts to void the electoral college will fail. Just as they have in the 60 court cases trying to overturn the vote

His intent now is to completely destabilize the nation and should Pence attempt to wander outside his constitutionally mandated role and follow through on some of the ploys Trump has demanded, he’ll fail and that’s the end of Pence. He just does not have the numbers.

The only other option, perhaps, is to blow The Hill to bits and take ’em all out, declare martial law and see how far that goes with the Joint Chiefs…. Some plan!

      1. millie bobby brownie

Biblical? As in a bunch of fictional stories loosely based around one man to drive a specific agenda?

        That kind of biblical?

      2. Junkface

The plan sounds illegal and not likely to happen. The US Military leadership accepted the election result. They will not play this game. It’s a farce and a delusion.

          1. Nigel

In fairness, it isn’t as if anyone has actually laid it out in a comprehensible fashion. We mostly have to infer it from cryptic, ambiguously ironic slogans.

          2. Junkface

Please tell us this plan. You never answer any questions about it.

I’ve listened to DC legal experts taking everything apart, and they say Biden won, Trumps legal challenges failed and Biden will be inaugurated on the 20th.

          3. Tony

And I bet you’re not about to enlighten us about what it is either Bodge!

            Zero accountability ya little divil!

          4. Cian

            The Plan™
            – #1 You do not talk about the Plan™ details
            – #2 You do not talk about the Plan™ details
            – #3 ???
            – #4 Profit

          5. Nigel

Fair enough, Bodge, we’ll just see how things go.

Though, perhaps if the plan is THAT ridiculous….

    Be Like Mike.
It’s fabulous,Bernie endorsed Stacy on Killer Mike’s recommendation, when she was unknown.
    The rest as they say…
A new dawn, you can sense it,personally this will accelerate cannabis legislation so I’m stoked and yea baked, whole industry is today.
Great day for America and yes a great day for Ireland.

Some chairman turnovers with Democrats expected to win the Senate:
      Appropriations: Shelby —> Leahy
      Banking: Crapo —> Brown
      Environment: Barasso —> Carper
      Finance: Grassley —> Wyden
      Homeland Security: Johnson —> Peters
      Judiciary: Graham —> Durbin
      Budget: Enzi —> Sanders

  5. Hector Rameriz

According to reports a private plane used by trump previously has been booked for a flight to Scotland the day before the inauguration. Nicola Sturgeon says there’s travel restrictions in Scotland and may not be allowed in Scotland. What’s the odds trump gets a red carpet and music at Shannon on his way to Doonbeg?

    1. ReproBertie

“What’s the odds trump gets a red carpet and music at Shannon on his way to Doonbeg?”
      Extremely long I’d imagine.

  6. Rosette of Sirius

Anyone, and I mean anyone, that has ever bought into and supported Trump, his presidency and of his his racism, his grift, his failed squeals of steal, his Proud Boys and his call to ‘stand back and stand by’, sweaty Rudy and the Laywers, the Qracken, and, his overt narcissistic petulance are, I can only say are completely and utterly intellectually bankrupt.

    1. Haroo

Jet fuel can’t melt steel beams…

      Checkmate.

Plandemic, my civil liberties and freedoms, great reset so gay space communists and big tech can eradicate the Irish pub… eh… Something about Fair City being a training ground for Nazi ninjas

  7. ( ̄_, ̄ ) AKA Frilly Keane

‘not sure if any of ye watched and or listened to Trump’s Georgia Rally there the other day, post that phone call

But instead of using the appearance to do an all out canvas for his party’s candidates (Kelly Loeffler & David Perdue) – a full Presidential final push to get the vote out
He made it about Kemp and Raffensperger, even when he introduced Kelly, she made her own few words about Trump & the Presidential Campaign not her own Seanate runoff race. She barely had 5 mins out of his 90 minute platform in front of her own constituency, and most of that was walking up to the stage waving

In a real campaign, She should have been doing all the talking to the voters, and introducing Trump to them.
Likewise with Perdue in his district.

Nah. Not a bit of it. For 90 minutes Trump made it about the election he says was stolen
Not about the election that could bring two more Republicans into the Senate
Get control of the Senate, and more importantly
    Get control of the Committees

So for all the smarty pants deep State Q intelligentsia
and the 3D chess players, and Simplex Crossword solvers
Ye can have all yere top secret high level classified theories, and know how

    ### drops and ### what every you’re Kracken Having
And view that the likes of me are just sheeple
Or that we’re too stupid, or already corrupt or easily fooled

    Let me tell ye this
For any election – anywhere, for any seat/ office
    Any election
You have to get votes out of the voters

    Votes

If anyone wants to talk about corruption, and elections being stolen, the fake news, the deficit of good debate

Then take a look at how campaigns canvas the voters, the messaging, and why they focus on three words trivia and gossip
Then take a look at how polling stations and count centres are organised, resourced, managed; and compare what Campaigns are prepared to spend on one
    and not the other

The mere notion that a Candidate can approach a returning officer to seek to convince, or to influence, or to challenge or to suggest misconduct is actually tolerated,
and we know its tolerated as Trump made the call(s) himself

Seriously – to all the Q_MAGA_Proud_Birther_Prepper_Praise_the_Lord_From_My_Cold_Dead_Hands advocates and spreaders
    Cop on to yerselves

Donald Trump said at this rally in Georgia that he hoped his own Vice President, duly elected in 2016, would “come through for us.”
FFS. If that’s not an open air barefaced attempt at political corruption and electoral fraud, I don’t know wtf is
    have a riot about that
    Will Ye f

    1. Daisy Chainsaw

Trump’s so self obsessed that he called Loeffler Karen insead of Kelly. Couldn’t even be bothered to know the candidates proper names… although Karen is an apt moniker for her, tbh!

      1. ( ̄_, ̄ ) AKA Frilly Keane

or White Collar Criminal Loeffler, K (Insider Trading) , Maria Loeffler, works too
for me anyway, same shady instincts and self-importance

yeah, it was a complete demonstration of how these people forget they are actually Politicians seeking election and not Politicans making the most of the gig by stuffing their pockets etc
They forget that at the end of all that bluster tweets and cute videos, that they are answerable to the voter,
Like to ignore the canvassing opportunity to get control of the Senate Committees
        f’ing hell

Clueless, even our worst of the worse here
Bertie Ahern, Michael Lowry, whatever Healy Rae yer having yerselves
Know how to get the votes out

    2. Nigel

The Republican strategy has always been to STOP people from voting, especially black people, for exactly these reasons. When you’re an electoral minority, but you’ve fixed the rules and gamed the system to keep a lock on power, you can do and say anything you want, and Trump is just the most vulgar expression of this principal. Now they’ve reached a point where they can’t win with him and they can’t win without him, they’ll be doubling down on voter supression to win back what they’ve lost.

      1. bisted

…fairplay to Democrats and Republicans for getting the vote out this time…highest turnout ever for both sides…last time people believed the opinion polls…didn’t even have to hold their noses and vote for crooked Hillary…wrong…Brexit…wrong…

        1. V aka Frilly Keane

Just to folly up there on what Bisto said about both main parties getting a massive voter turnout

Something deserves to be said about that alright
And seeing what we’re seeing now going down on the Capitol
The Republican Party will take years to recover from the campaign tactics they used to get their own vote out

Whereas the Dems will ride that we’re the good guys here for another few cycles. Trump and his rioters have given them a blank cheque

      2. ( ̄_, ̄ ) AKA Frilly Keane

        Yeah Nidgie
And now its coming back to haunt them
and knowing they can’t be so obvious about the racist motive to suppress votes and access to vote from citizens
So they’re using other tactics like conspiracies and tribal think instead

when in fact they don’t have to do any of it

Facilitate proper and well resourced elections
Scrap this Secretary of State for the State of…. political appointments (Get the Courts service to do it)
Make it an entirely Independent appointment

Anyway, working on something, well supposed to be, dossing most of the time
        so – kinda stay tuned

        @Bisto
Really is, and its a great opportunity now to fix the logistics of their elections – at every level
My worry is that Mitch and Co will see it as an opportunity to raise money for the 70 plus million voters that won’t vote Democrat

  8. Gearóid

That’s not the Archbishop’s Twitter account. From the profile: Quotes from Abp Viganò’s media interviews, prayers, open letters to President Trump on the children of light, Great Reset & electoral fraud. I’m not Abp Viganò.

  9. ReproBertie

“If we’re wrong we will be made fools of, but if we’re right a lot of them will go to jail. Let’s have trial by combat,’ said Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani.

    Rudy heading to the octagon?

    1. Haroo

What a great defence of a position that completely exonerates the party making a claim from providing any evidence: if I am wrong then ok I am a silly billy BUT if I am right that is a HUGE deal, so you might as well believe me as it is more interesting.

Trial by combat. For the love of all that is decent… What in the name of the Hollyoaks omnibus is next?

  10. Rosette of Sirius

Jayzus lads they’re storming the Capitol. Law enforcement seemingly absent. This the plan?! CNN live.

      1. Rosette of Sirius

I’d be fairly certain there’s an awful lot of guns at the ready should things kick off. Too many protestors. Not enough cops.

        1. Haroo

There are tweets from those inside saying shots have been fired into the senate chamber and a pic of police with drawn guns barricading the door.

Bodge, is this the plan of Qanon or whoever??? It is a pretty sh*t plan. Unless this is like one of those movies where this is a distraction
/diversion and the real plan is to rob a big bank or diamonds.

Or is this Trump being a wally, an impromptu inciting of low wits and head bangers to cause trouble and not related to the plan?

          1. V aka Frilly Keane

            D’you know what,
            HarooHarrooYahoo

It has to considered – like they got in so easily
Onto the floor of the Congress
Tis like a Gerard Butler fillum with lads in cheap suits with their guns drawn on a door with some furniture against it

Like there was a lad sitting in Nancy Pelosi”s deck –
Not a bead of sweat or fear
Like he works there, perfectly comfortable and at home

            It’s all too easy
And it didn’t happen by accident
            That’s for sure

      2. Jane Doe

Actual false flag right in your face – the capitol siege is antifa disguised as MAGA people.

Trump people don’t riot: As well as all the guns they also have all the discipline.

Not that facts actually matter to the media.

        1. ReproBertie

Trump people don’t riot? As of right now there has been no rioting.

But I guess facts don’t matter etc., etc.

        2. Nigel

Trump people don’t get the crap beaten out of them by the police for assembling in public places. Crucial difference.

      3. ReproBertie

Republican congressman Kevin McCarthy told Fox News that he heard a report of shots fired over the Capitol Police radio.

        Report is unconfirmed of course.

          1. Charger Salmons

            Cobblers you old mattress soaker.
Flash bang grenades from the police.
            No shots have been fired.

          2. millie bobby brownie

Also multiple news sources are now reporting that a woman is indeed in critical condition from gunshot wounds.

          3. ReproBertie

LOL! You’re taking me up all wrong Spoofer. Rather than clutching my pearls I’m rolling my eyes at the OTT reporting from the US media.

  11. newsjustin

    Trump is an awful bellend.

I don’t usually take pleasure in other people’s lives imploding. But because he’s such a lying, rude, cruel, nasty tool, its hilarious to see it. Getting funnier and funnier the more he flounders and tries to cling on. Hilariously satisfying.

    1. Rosette of Sirius

Tell you what, if ever there was a chance the Biden administration would let him slink off into the night, it’s gone now. They’ll crucify him for this.

      1. ReproBertie

I’m not so sure. Putting him on trial gives his cult another platform to rally round. Better to kick him out and ignore him for a year or two.

  12. newsjustin

His enablers, professional politicians who are apparently sane, are worse. Letting their democracy burn and disgracing themselves for the chance of a re-election.

    1. Rosette of Sirius

Well. Reality is gonna bite and bite hard. They are responsible for the provocation of what can only be describe as an insurrection against the State. There’ll be hell to pay.

      1. Haroo

A woman has been shot on the capitol grounds and is in a critical condition.

Trump really has to answer for this. He incited the mob that has led to someone’s possible death (hopefully not though).

      1. Rosette of Sirius

It’s an insurrection. That’s exactly what it is. National Guard now on the way and it’s gonna get ugly.

  13. Charger Salmons

Any innocent bystanders been attacked by protestors yet ?
    Anything set on fire ?
    Graffiti ?
    Looting ?
    Nope, didn’t think so.
American media hyping up a peaceful protest as usual.
BBC and Sky News will be issuing mattress protectors to all its staff.

    1. Nigel

A ‘peaceful’ protest against a clear democratic outcome? Why, you of all people have been so scathing about such preposterous behaviour!

    2. Rosette of Sirius

What innocent bystanders are there to attack?! They’ve not just breached the perimeter of the Capitol but the building itself. Forcing the suspension of parliamentary proceedings and the evacuation of their elected representatives. Ffs they’re even starting to loot the place.

Those involved are neither bystanders or innocent.

As for everything else, let’s see what happens when the sun goes down and curfew kicks in.

Hillary had word for Trump’s base. What was it again?!

    3. ce

Definitely hyped – but you know the whole storming of the capitol building is also definitely treasonous under US law… the US makes their own laws too, it’s not just Blighty… and this time they might actually enforce them cause it’s an embarrassment. Every other despot with a twitter account is going to rag on them for days. But of course you think “nothing to see move along”

    4. Brother Barnabas

and when BLM protestors were tear gassed in the same location, were they looting and rioting?

  14. Haroo

As the Defence Dept apparently denied a request from the Mayor to send the National Guard in, the governor of Virginia is sending their state troopers and a Virginian National Guard unit to DC.

    Insanity.

    1. millie bobby brownie

Trump has now requested National Guard and is on its way according to Kayleigh McEnany.

  15. Charger Salmons

I don’t recall seeing this much outrage from the flakes on here when BLM were torching and looting cities across America.
You lot think two manbun types arguing over the last tofu burger constitutes a riot.
Jeez, the yellow mattress brigade would soil themselves in a proper scatter.

    1. Papi

Spaffer with his “it’s only flash bangs” and “proper scatter”!
You’re a fat racist who’d evacuate yourself at the drop of a hat.

    2. ReproBertie

The vast majority of protesters have done nothing more than stand on or in front of the steps of the Capitol building waving flags and taking selfies and the US media is acting like it’s the burning of the Reichstag.

Even Britain’s teaboy Taoiseach wants in on the act, calling for an end to the “disgraceful scenes”.

    3. Haroo

Ah the walking migraine (credit to Millie, twas good) appears.

What would you be without your whataboutism? How would you ever engage in discussion or debate. The discussion here seems to be mostly centred on Trump and his gun-toting poodles/rabble of miscreants, a president inciting mobs and the dangers of a demagogue using incendiary language to further his own personal goals/delusion without knowing or caring about the harmful forces he is unleashing.

Whataboutism: changing the subject to someone else’s perceived wrongdoing implyong that all actions, regardless of context, share a moral equivalency. Since nobody/thing/idea/group is perfect therefore all criticism is hypocritical. Let he without sin…

BLM is interesting and complex. Perhaps we can discuss that on its own as it is its own phenomenom. But how about you talk about Trump and his crowd now? Are you in favour? Do you think what they are doing is right? Do you think he is a responsible leader/person? Do you agree with crowds storming a govt office because they did not get their way?

  16. millie bobby brownie

Just saw an unconfirmed though hilarious claim that Pence has unfollowed Trump on twitter.

    1. millie bobby brownie

It gets better. He’s changed his banner at the top of his twitter to a pic of Biden and Harris.

    1. Rosette of Sirius

Looks like all the oldies and diabetics are shuffling their way back to their hotels, yet a large number of the hardcore Proud Boys and Oath Keepers remain. 45 mins to curfew.

  17. Charger Salmons

This just in from our Washington correspondent Hair Timmy.
‘ Biblical scenes here in DC at the moment.
The Capitol is ablaze, there’s hand to hand combat between riot police and protestors and the air is thick with the acrid smoke of tear gas. ‘
    Presenter in studio ‘ Timmy – there’s no-one there.They’ve all gone home. ‘
    Heh,heh,heh.

  18. ce

Correction – “So go home, we love you, you’re very special”
Should go down with the Gettysburg Address

  19. Charger Salmons

    Anyway, excitement over.
Time for Mrs Brown’s Boys New Year Special on de telly.
Another great Irish export on show.
    Marvellous.

    1. ce

Or watch the UK news about the 1000 people who died their today…. oh wait everybody is distracted by the orange man

    2. Haroo

Aw Charger don’t go. Whenever I read your stuff it always reminds me of Little Britain or The Beano.

As long as we all remember you are essentially a parody of yourself you are actually sometimes entertaining.

      1. Papi

Ah, leave him go, he’s knackered from having his action-man outfit on and hiding behind the couch.

  20. f_lawless

Likely some orchestrated post-election chaos that’s been in the planning for some time now.

    As Glen Greenwald points out;
“How have hundreds of billions upon hundreds of billions of dollars been spent in the name of security since 9/11, along with the deployment of drones and surveillance tech, yet a few hundred protestors can so easily breach the Capitol, just waltzing in and taking it over?”

    1. Haroo

f_lawless, step away from the twilight zone. There may be more planning to this than meets the eye but we are too early to jump to those conclusions. Let’s just wait and see what facts emerge.

If you go down that rabbits hole by morning you will have linked this Toblerones having more space between the triangles (and less traingles as a result, bastards)

  21. Rosette of Sirius

Interesting factoid that Trump is the first President to lose reelection, lose the House and lose the Senate since 1932.

Two other glorious badges to add to that list being, as with Andrew Johnson, he leaves office having been impeached and lost the popular vote.

    That’s 5 for 5.

    1. Rosette of Sirius

If that’s not a seditious and treasonous act, I don’t know what is.

Tell you what tho. There are an awful lot of soft and squidgy people who’ve probably never stood what they consider defiantly before a line of riot police before. In the next few minutes they’re gonna get the shock of their lives.

  22. Nigel

Trump: ‘These are the things and events that happen when a sacred landslide election victory is so unceremoniously & viciously stripped away from great patriots who have been badly & unfairly treated for so long. Go home with love & in peace. Remember this day forever!’
