Coming so soon after news of her pregnancy this is obviously a worrying time for the minister.
Best wishes to her for a quick recovery.

On the plus side.. good chance the little mite will be born with immunity.. which is a good thing as there appears little chance we will be vaccinated in 8 months from now..

  2. Dr.Fart

I don’t like how she does politics but as a person I hope she gets thru this unscathed and that the baby is safe most importantly. must be very scary for her. must not have followed safety guidelines. a lesson to us all. and she’d have the means and capabilities to lockdown properly, and still caught it. be vigilant everyone.

    1. Janet, dreams of an alternate universe

I’m not sure blaming her is ok, you could pick it up at tesco sure

We were in the height of it while I was still in my early pregnancy last year and I was terrified that I’d pick it up. I barely left the house. I was lucky not to pick it up. I can only imagine how anxious she must feel, and guilty too.

        1. Brother Barnabas

unfortunately, the stupid*, selfish fuppers who refuse to wear masks or adhere to any of the guidelines wont feel any guilt whatsoever

(*not stupid, just a different perspective, apparently)

          1. Toto

Apart from a certain nomadic sector, I really don’t see too many people not wearing masks. I hate masks, but I wear it because I am asked to, but I’m not sure it’s really that much of an issue. Maybe I’m wrong.

          2. millie bobby brownie

I made a comment yesterday regarding my father in law’s token and extremely half-assed adherence to guidelines, and how incredibly frustrating and selfish I find it. As I said yesterday, he still hasn’t held the little lad because of it.

          3. Brother Barnabas

elderly man who lives next door to me (and lives alone) hasnt gone past his garden gate since April – he’s 87 so rightly concerned. what scares him is the number of fools not wearing masks, not giving him space etc, running past him and spluttering all over him

I dont understand why these people wont just do it for other people’s peace of mind, irrespective of whether they think Bill Gates is scheming to steal their thoughts or whatever. is wearing a face covering and giving others 2 metres such a big deal?

          4. Brother Barnabas

if I might borrow your own mantra, micko – you do your thing, I’ll do mine

now fupp off, you conceited little thick

          5. ( ̄_, ̄ ) AKA Frilly Keane

fair enough Brother B – there are whole-time brawlers and anti anything that’s going everywhere

and in this case I think its fair to consider that the Minister could even have caught it in a clinical setting, like when getting a scan
Or under her own settings, like in a Constituency Clinic

The point is, that if this is a virulent as it’s being reported, and we are entering another year of a standstill, while the well minded, well fed and feather nested go about their business with eff all accountability, or impact,
Then it is only fair that its said that it can be caught in the most high brow of settings, and from the most well got and well-to-do sets

This continual pointing the finger at these fringe rise-a-rows, who in the main tend to be what we GAA people call, Windy hoors, is letting the likes of Ministers,Department and Quango Heads, like Reid etc away with everything
even the purchasing of medical equipment from dodgy showmen

            Like it or not folks
they’re not the ones running the HSE
Or NPHET or sitting around Government Benches
            or appointing Supreme Court Judges
or in Senior Benchmarked Increment gathering posts

Save your ire, and name calling for that crowd

and btw Micko, why would you care that this place is quiet?

          6. Micko

            Hey V

I think my reply to Brother yesterday pretty much sums up my feelings on this place right now.

            Pasted below

            Cheers

            “@Brother
Yourself and others here seem to take some sort of sadistic pleasure in demeaning others and their intelligence.

You will be the death of this website.

People will no longer offer their opinions due to the fact that they will be shouted down and called stupid

I know that’s how I feel somedays. – I think “Yeah I don’t agree with what they’ve said , but I’m not going to comment on that – I don’t need the stress today”

It’s literally how echo chambers are created. And it makes us all mean and nasty.

Logic would dictate that everyone on this site works in an industry that has allowed us ALL ample time to comment here.

There is no one stupid here. Criticise opinions- fine, but your constant calling out of people even when they haven’t posted is childish.

Humans are pattern recognition animals and just because people see different patterns and correlations in our world that leads them to believe different things to you – is no reason to put their intelligence or understanding down constantly.

We all thankfully find ourselves in the middle of the IQ bell curve, very few are on the fringes – there are NO geniuses or morons here.

            Let it go.”

          7. ( ̄_, ̄ ) AKA Frilly Keane

            ‘all due respect Micko

I’ve only noticed you here in the last 6 months
            if even that

so how the :::k would you know about this place

            FYI, everyone
Whenever you see archive threads coming in under the tags, or being regurgitated under the Popular Posts heading
            take a gander

and then decide about what this place was, and what it is now

health warning, some of you might notice who the real liars, trolls and controlled & organised opposition were and are. So maybe ye might come forward now and ask Broadsheet to delete some of your posts

          8. millie bobby brownie

That’s EMatty actually. He’s a Certified Genius™ and you are clearly too much of a dunderhead to even understand the workings of his base thoughts.

        2. Micko

Been here since about 2011 I think V

I stopped posting a few years after that as my work changed. Wasn’t office bound anymore.

Came back when Covid started as I had the time.

So yeah – been here quite a bit on and off. Not that that really matters does it?

Not sure what you’re getting at with that last bit though? Liars etc?

      2. Dr.Fart

im not blaming her, but I live her her and they’ve had family over fairly regularly, presumably to wish her well on the great news! and im sure she didn’t catch it that way, but if she was lapse with that, she could be lapse in other ways. especially with how politicians seem to think they’re above it all. and are regularly not following their own guidelines.

          1. Micko

            Nice try Janet

Dr Fart literally blaming a pregnant woman for catching Covid here (he knows as he spies on her) and in another post literally calling for the army to be deployed on the streets to round people up.

Both post almost unchallenged… except for Janet.

What the hell is going on around here lately?

          2. ReproBertie

As some fella called micko said: I think “Yeah I don’t agree with what they’ve said , but I’m not going to comment on that – I don’t need the stress today”

          3. Micko

            Yeah. You’re probably right Bertie

            Should follow my own advice.

I only got involved with this thread coz Brother called me out.

            G-luck

          4. ReproBertie

I wasn’t saying that to shoo you off micko. When Covid started I found the threads were really impacting on my mood so I took a break. I try not to get dragged in to stuff now because here doesn’t matter so I won’t be letting it change how I feel in the real world.

          5. millie bobby brownie

            +1

A lot of the threads here have frustrated and depressed me here in the last year – not just the covid ones. I seriously struggled with my mental health last year and it wasn’t helping in any way. I only contribute to the stuff that gives me a giggle by and large now.

I also have it on good authority that is why Bertie hasn’t been seen here lately.

          6. Janet, dreams of an alternate universe

I’d say so, I have to watch the blood pressure so just not getting involved unless it’s kind or fun as much as possible

          7. Micko

            Ah ok fair enough man

Honestly, I’ve never been depressed in my life.

But lately… and over the last year.

And being on here and seeing some of the opinions about taking away more of what we have and when anyone raises a concern they’re just shouted down.

            Jesus, I dunno anymore man

          8. Bodger

Sorry, Micko. There’s a lot of beauty too. Sunsets, pets, outer ‘space’ even reindeer and Slightly Bemused.

          9. Dr.Fart

micko, hahahah I genuinely laughed out loud at ur comment, really good! honestly, no sarcasm. now, anyway im not blaming her for catching the vid, its hard to turn away family who arrive at your door, and she might not of got it there, im just saying people need to be far more careful and give up the “it won’t happen to us” attitude. as for the army, yep I stand by that, we CLEARLY need to do something, considering leaving it up to ‘the people’ has not worked. we are way worse than ever before with the virus, so action needs to be take FOR people if people won’t do it themselves

          10. ReproBertie

It takes discipline to avoid getting dragged in sometimes and that often means the easier option is just to stay away. Getting dragged back into lockdown in the cold midwinter isn’t good for the mood either but better times are coming.

In all honesty, there’s nothing wrong with feeling down while all this crap is going on. It’s only natural and if avoiding things is a part of the mental self defence needed to get through the down times then stick to it.

Personally I really hope Bertie will be back.
