Rathmines Garda Station

This morning/afternoon.

The Central Criminal Court.

Via The Irish Times:

Justice Michael White noted that Kevin Brazil (51) was first questioned about and admitted the abuse of this boy and another victim in 2002 but that inexplicably the then investigating garda did not send the file forward for prosecution.

The Central Criminal Court heard that in 2002 gardaí at Rathmines Garda station questioned Brazil and he made admissions.

This case and another case were investigated at that time but for some “inexplicable reason” no file was ever sent to the DPP, Superintendent Barry Walsh said.

Supt Walsh told Anne Rowland SC, prosecuting, that when he began investigating allegations from a third victim years later he discovered the Rathmines cases.

Mr Justice Michael White set a sentence of five years but reduced this by half and said he was taking the delay in prosecuting these offences into consideration and the fact that if the case had been prosecuted at the time Brazil would likely have served his sentence by now.

Meanwhile…

Patrick Gageby SC, defending, told the court that his client had been working in a large supermarket and he lost his job after his convictions were publicised last July.

Good times.

why is Ireland such a haven for paedophiles? 2.5 years for multiple sexual assaults on a child who is serving a lifelong sentence of anxiety and depression. Whenever I read about Judges giving insanely lenient sentences on paedophiles it makes me suspicious of the Judge.

Don’t forget the bit in the times article where he only got 3 years suspended sentence for other abuse cases.

yea I saw that! Literally showing himself to be a repeat offender, and literally admitted it to police. Once they didn’t even file it, and then the other he got zero time. And now years later the judge gives him a poxy 2.5 years. Couldn’t get over the judges logic of “well he would’ve done that time by now”.. what the hell does he mean by that? if thats the case, I can say I’ve served 40 years in prison. I’ve lived for 40 years, and sure that time spent living or in prison, doesnt matter. sure whats the difference. Demented logic.

Do they not see that this shows to other Paedos that they can carry on without much of a deterrent?

GSOC should be investigating this. Also suspending half a sentence because of a delay in prosecution is ridiculous. That SC seems to be very successful with cases such as this.

The investigating garda needs to be investigated. If they’re still serving, GSOC can look into it, if they’re retired, then a criminal investigation shoud be opened because they’re culpable for the abuse of the third child.

that made me so suspicious of white. its clearly clutching at straws to go lenient on him. very dodgy judge. hes in the papers for a row with his neighbour, and white went into the sitting judges chambers before the hearing, and the defendant brought that up in the case and the sitting judge said it was an outrageous claim and threw all kinds of threats at him. Judges can be the dodgiest people in society.

I used to live near this garda station. If you looked in the window they had a huge statue of the Virgin Mary in their recreation room.

Was that not the House next door? A Big legion of mary vibe? I always wanted to win the lotto, buy the house across the road from it and put huge statues of Baphomet and Ashtaroth up outside, for the craic.

That part of the garda station that is old (with the lamp outside it). That’s where the Virgin Mary statue was, just inside by the window. Just around the corner from that is Frank Duff House (Legion of Mary). The Rathmines garda station always had a dodgy reputation. Although what garda station doesn’t?
