Van Morrison to sue NI govt for their blanket ban on live music. He can Scream & Holler but he’s only after The Big Royalty Cheque.
    Gemma’s a big fan I’d say..

I wonder if the overwhelmingly liberal media will pursue and investigate the Biden administration in the same biased, abusive and dishonest way they have Trump for the last five years.
Looking at the tootle-fest that has been the BBC,SKY,CNN and CNBC’s coverage over the past 24 hours I doubt it.

    1. Charger Salmons

They could start by answering why they were happy with 25,000 troops on the streets of Washington for a threat which clearly never existed but harangued Trump for threatening to bring in those same troops when BLM protestors were burning and looting cities across America.
You’ll see plenty more of those double standards in the future.

Satisfying to see the meltdown, though. The poet must have sent shudders through his dead, dead soul.
          Marvelous.

      1. Fergalito

This type of claptrap is along the lines of the dynamic that exists between siblings or the myopic, defensive deflection strategy of the feeble minded, those not prepared to take responsibility for themselves or their actions – when one gets into trouble or is called out on something they usually tend in their childish way to say “but what about when you did…”

Trump is not a fuppin’ victim here rather he’s a perpetrator of all that is crass about the worst of humanity.

    2. Charlie

Quite frankly, I couldn’t give a monkeys lady part if Ronald McDonald was the new Commandment in chief. The most important thing is that the orange birdbrain is out on his ear.

    3. Nigel

In fairness, they didn’t have to spend this Inauguration trying to find euphemisms for ‘lying.’

      1. ReproBertie

Nor will President Biden spend his first day in office tweeting complaints about the coverage of his inauguration.

          1. Rosette of Sirius

Seeing as Bodger has gone to ground n’all…

Next up…. Biden is actually Q….. I mean, there’s no other explanation….. Right?!

(some Q-nuts are actually saying this!)

Bit rich you accusing someone of being biased, abusive and dishonest you clown. They are three words that quite suit you.

  4. f_lawless

This seems like an important announcement made today by the WHO: they’ve issued new requests to lab professionals and testers.in relation to how a Covid case should be diagnosed.

    https://twitter.com/EthicalSkeptic/status/1352007326451044355

“PCR positive is no longer = Covid. You are not Covid now unless you get a second test to confirm it, and are presenting clinical symptoms. We shall see what the net impact of this indeed is.”

Seems that a logical assumption would be that, as a consequence, reported case rates will likely go into decline (or at least give a more accurate picture). It will also prevent some deaths being misattributed to Covid. Those health-care workers who are having to self-isolate due to positive PCR test alone, would no longer have to do so – which would ease the strain on health services, helping to save more lives.

Naturally one wonders why this change in guidelines is only being made now and why it didn’t happen long ago. Is it all just cynical politics at play were any drop off that results specifically from the new change will be credited to the introduction of the vaccines? I can see how it would make it harder to get a clear picture of the vaccines’ efficacy.

      1. Brother Barnabas

and important to note, too, that the words in italics in f_lawless’s comments are not from the WHO release – it’s an anonymous Twitter account’ clearly biased, agenda-driven ‘take’ on things. and, of course, as is standard now, it entirely misrepresents the WHO doc. it’s really just sad at this stage.

    1. Cian

      The WHO document actually says:

“WHO guidance Diagnostic testing for SARS-CoV-2 states that careful interpretation of weak positive results is needed (1). The cycle threshold (Ct) needed to detect virus is inversely proportional to the patient’s viral load. Where test results do not correspond with the clinical presentation, a new specimen should be taken and retested using the same or different NAT technology.”

This is only relevant to “weak” positive results where there are no symptoms.

If you are symptomatic and have any (weak/strong) positive test == Covid
If you are asymptomatic and have a strong positive test == Covid
If you are asymptomatic and have a week positive test == retest… and if this is negative == No Covid
If you are asymptomatic and have a week positive test == retest… and if this is also ‘weak’ positive == Covid

Secondly, this isn’t new. This has been the case since 11 September 2020 – they refer to this document ‘Diagnostic testing for SARS-CoV-2’ [
https://www.who.int/publications/i/item/diagnostic-testing-for-sars-cov-2%5D that states “Careful interpretation of weak positive NAAT results is needed, as some of the assays have shown to produce false signals at high
Ct values. When test results turn out to be invalid or questionable, the patient should be resampled and retested.”

      1. f_lawless

I note that Prof Carl Heneghan, he of the Centre for Evidence-based Medicine, Oxford and expert witness at the Oireachtas Covid Committee hearing, felt the WHO update from yesterday sufficiently important to mention on his twitter account.

The line of note for him was:
        https://twitter.com/carlheneghan/status/1352022380542095361

“WHO Information Notice for IVD Users 2020/05. ‘Provide the Ct value in the report to the requesting health care provider.’”

As far as I’m aware, it was not part of the WHO instructions that date back to September to relay this information back to doctors or health authorities. I would have thought this was key information in the decision making process?

Another point regarding retesting, is it true or not that people in a community setting who get a positive test result but don’t display symptoms are not being called in again for another test? They’re simply told to quarantine and added to the case count

    Charger’s Vax Facts™ # 30

The UK has delivered 4,723,443 Covid-19 doses.
Ireland has delivered ‘ roughly ‘ 94,000 – less than the number of people who are injected before lunchtime every day in the UK.
At the time of writing the total on the Irish official government website has remained unchanged at 77,303 for 8 days.
    ‘ Chugging ‘ along.

    1. Joe F

You absolute clown of a person.
The UK has the 8th highest death rate per million from the virus, out of 221 countries listed. Great job by your hero Bozo. Over 1800 died yesterday alone. Using last weeks statistics only, the UK has the HIGHEST of all 221 countries listed. Well done Bozo.

    2. bisted

…I haven’t received notice of Covid-19 vaccination being available yet, despite volunteering to participate in a longitudinal study on dosage of a particular brand…now that GPs have negotiated their fee I expect my options to improve dramatically…not since the planning permissions scandal has the grace and favour jockeying been so blatant…

        1. Joe F

Why are you ignoring the death rate from virus clown man?
As I said, the UK has now the highest death rate using statistics from last week only. Over 1800 dead yesterday alone. Your hero Bozo doing a mighty job. -20% in approval ratings. You’re very quiet on his popularity lately.

          1. Papi

I honestly don’t think even Charage matters to Charage anymore, the persona has overwhelmed him so much.

The British Army has been drafted in to help under-pressure nurses in Northern Ireland’s hospitals.
More than 100 ‘medical technicians’ or para-medics if you will have been deployed under what is called the ‘Military Aid to the Civil Authorities (MACA)’ agreement.
Last April when NI Health Minster Robin Swann made requests for military help, Sinn Féin’s Michelle O’Neill said Mr Swann had taken that decision unilaterally.
Today, through gritted teeth, a Shinner spokesman said ” Sinn Féin’s priority throughout the pandemic has been to save lives, keep people safe and protect the health service.
” We do not rule out any measures to do so “.

They innoculated my relatives nursing home in Limerick – right on schedule -and back next week to give 2nd jab. Credit where credit is due.

      1. Charger Salmons

        Pleased to hear that Kate.
This second wave is still exacting a terrible toll among the elderly.
        It must be a relief.

        1. Charger Salmons

Meanwhile Health Minister Slaphead Donnelly has been up on his hind quarters in the Dáil this morning promising that every resident in Ireland will receive a vaccine by September.
But yet again no mention of the latest vaccine figures or why the Government’s own website carrying these hasn’t been updated since a week yesterday.
Instead he simply repeated old numbers from last Sunday of 94,000.
          http://www.irishtimes.com/news/politics/everyone-in-ireland-to-get-covid-19-vaccine-by-september-minister-for-health-says-1.4464245
Funnily enough the figures are not included on the Irish Times Covid-19 database either.
It’s almost like they have something to hide …

          1. Joe F

Funny enough you completely ignore UK figures you don’t like, clown man. Why are you not commenting on deaths rates, case rates for the UK? I wonder would they be
a lot worse than for Ireland? You’re a sad individual/troll/keyboard warrior.

  7. TypeONegative

“Big moment for US and Britain…when you look at the issues that unite me and Joe Biden… there’s a fantastic joint common agenda.” – Boris Johnson
Ridiculous, the difference being his are issues he himself perpetuated, the plonker. Trying to frame a Biden win as suiting his interests is unbelievable.

    1. Charger Salmons

Would these issues be the UK’s strong commitment in law to reducing global emmission levels, the proactive stance on China’s persecution of minorities while the EU has been cosying up to the regime or the fact that after America the UK is the largest contributor to NATO ?
We’ll find out when Biden makes his first foreign visit.
I hear Cornwall’s Carbis Bay in June is delightful.
This time of year there’s nothing like a bracing walk on its magnificent beach.

      1. Joe F

You’re such a clown of a person. Your darling UK is so superior to all of Europe, and Ireland in particular. Pity that it has the highest death rate in the world from virus. Two and a half times the rate for Ireland. Well done Bozo.

        1. millie bobby brownie

Joe, stop giving him what he wants. It’s not hard.

When you see a comment by this poster, imagine instead a picture of a monkey at typewriter wearing a charming hat.

          1. Joe F

No I’m just doing that to annoy him! If he posts something normal I’m not going to reply to him. If he keeps bleating on about how inferior Ireland is, I’m just going to reply! Just to annoy him!

            Cancel culture in action.

How fashionably cultured bullying has become.

The heavy Broadsheet gang trying to run him off the site.

          3. benblack

I guess he was taught never to give in to bullies – and must possess great internal strength.

Just reading the comments directed at him is deflating and disappointing.

Joe Biden really looking his age in some of those photos. I sincerely hope he stays well and healthy and sees out his term.

  9. Junkface

Memorable front pages for sure! I like the Silence is golden one from the new European. I want to see Trump getting in trouble in court with the SDNY. They have a big case coming up against him for fraud. New York state could do him in.

    1. ( ̄_, ̄ ) AKA Frilly Keane

That crowd in NY, that patrol Wall Street etc, are relentless
And their record shows a number of things,
Their intolerance for any form of financial and securities fraud, even petty cash level planning stage stuff
their impeccable professional standards & track record – legally and financial,
their ability to secure severe sentences for conviction wins, and most importantly
      Their independence

Nobody gets any special treatment – circumstances prevailing of course, every defendant is a criminal to them
no matter how big a tv star they are
It is one of the very few promises of being an ‘Merickan I really envy
They have zero tolerance for white collar crime
      Once you’re caught – you’re done

If they do, and there’s every reason to expect they will pursue the former President and other members of his immediate family
It will be uglier than Trump’s entire term
Good news for Trump is that Sidney has clocked a lot of billable hours defending lads in this particular legal parish (Enron Exec for example)
Enough to know the darker side of Wall Street more than anyone in his contacts

Don’t be surprised for a succession of visits to various Gulf States to see friends
      Or even Russia…..
Maybe even Namibia, a sunny well got location, which is growing in popularity with people who like to keep out of reach, but maintain a high level of security, and don’t care who knows it

Montenegro btw, that’s where ye’ll find me

      1. Junkface

Yes it sure will be interesting to watch how these fraud charges unfold. I mean Trump has avoided actual justice his whole, disgusting, spoilt child life. Fraud, theft, rape allegations, not paying contractors, destroying small businesses. There is a backlog of Karma waiting.

        1. VAnon ™

If there’s a conviction, or more, to be got in NY South
          It will be got

I wouldn’t put any trust in karma
It’s never worked when I expected it to do its thing

He wasn’t even Obama’s first choice last time round.
An early stage-dementia President with a crack-smoking son who has mired both of them in corruption and grift allegations not pursued by a bottom-sniffing media ?
I am so going to enjoy the next five years.

      1. Joe F

Just another example of your biased, negative mindset clown man. Just like Bozo, you are a fan of Trump and are incapable of writing anything negative about him. I’m not a fan of Trump, but I appreciate he has done some good things for his country, but also a lot of bad things. Same for Bozo. And Biden will be the same, he will do good and bad, how much, I don’t know yet. But your limited mentality can’t see the good in Biden or the bad in Trump or Bozo. Marvelous.

    1. Charger Salmons

So that works out at an average of 6371 per day since the overall figures were last published.
320,874 vaccine doses administered just in England alone yesterday.
But hey, the EU saved a few bob …

Tractor, the Irish banks’ instant money-transfer app planned to take on the likes of Revolut and N26, has hit its first stumbling block.
The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) pushed back the Tractor application to set up a joint venture by Ireland’s high street banks because they did not provide enough information.
    Quelle surprise.
I’ve banked for years with AIB & BOI and their IT systems are early 2000’s in their effeciency.
Why would anyone bother their hole setting up an account with Tractor when everyone under the age of 30 already has one with a neo-bank that took 5 minutes to set up online without the need to prostrate before some spotty bank ckerk in polyester trousers with a leaking Biro in his shirt pocket ?
