You can’t fix a housing crisis without the will the solve the problem. In 3 years what has been done? Really!
There will always be homeless people. Even if you gave every one of them the key a house, alot of them would end up back on the streets. It’s just a fact of life. Not everything fits into a nice solution….every person has a different life & there will always be people living on the periphery.
I left Ireland 3 years ago. At that time we did not have tents parked in front of shops like this. Ireland is heading towards a failed state. There are 2 or 3 generations of working people who cannot afford a basic home. Then a homelessness crisis on top of that. This is a failure of leadership, a failure to find solutions, a failure to instigate any solutions. What we have is a rigged game. There is no will to fix the problem. The political class make money from it.
Ireland has a large amount of vulture funds snapping up new apartment buildings. A sure sign of corruption. Other countries and cities like Vancouver found a way to get vulture funds out of the housing market.
It’s insane.
My Dad was a delivery driver and my Mam was a housewife.
We were not well off, yet my parents could afford to get a mortgage for a three bed house in a Dublin suburb on one lowly wage in 1970.
How the hell are children born now supposed to do it?
But I’ll bet your dad didn’t eat avocado-toast or get loads of take-away lattes each day!
Neither do I, but I can’t afford a house either in Dublin either. What about people like me and my partner, both of us hard working people who have to adhere to a very strict budget in order to keep our heads above water.
Also Cian, that sweeping generalisation is a bit beneath you. Thought you were a bit better than that.
He has a new avocado-toast loving girlfriend and he’s just trying out his new identity. A coming out of sorts.
Dump her, Cian, immediately.
@Cian
Very silly comment. You don’t see this as an absolute systemic failure? This is terrible economics based on short term gains.
Where did you move to?
