Minister for Housing Darragh O’Brien
Dáil debate on Thursday, January 28
This afternoon.
Social Democrat housing spokesman Cian O’Callaghan TD writes
“In the Dáil last Thursday, the Minister for Housing stated that the National Quality Standards Framework [standards that have been in place in all charity-run hostels since 2019] applies to all providers of emergency accommodation for homeless people – including private providers.
“However, on Friday, Brendan Kenny of Dublin City Council confirmed at the Oireachtas Housing Committee that these standards are not in fact being applied to private for-profit providers of emergency accommodation.
“The Minister must come before the Dáil and correct the record, and the Government must act swiftly to ensure that the National Standards applies to all providers of homeless accommodation, including private providers….

its quite a feat to be a strong candidate for worst ever housing minister – even more of an achievement considering he’s only been in the job a wet week
The pubs have been closed a long time now, BB.
I know a place, bb
I’m not doing the fancy dress thing again, BB.
just the heels?
Fool me once.
and yet you never used the safe word…
I certainly said ‘Stop’, loud and clear.
There he is himself. Minister for Housing managing to build sweet f*** all, making sure the housing crisis goes on for another 5 years or more. This generation of politicians are useless, and this is a pivotal point in history.
This was the one Ministry the eFFers around the Country really wanted out of the Programme for Government talks
Don’t know why
Shur privatising Social Housing has been part of their own Political activity and ambition for decades
In fact I’d even say they started it
Muckall Martin must have some raging inferiority complex to have given a Senior Ministerial to the likes of this lad
The one Ministerial where they could have really shown the Country they were different in every way to Fine Gael
And all they’ve done is confirmed they’re all one and the same
The social housing issue won’t really cost FF votes but what most certainly will is the issue of affordability. Eoin O’Brion ( as much as I don’t either like or trust SF) was straight out of the blocks drawing attention to the recent report on the cost of as basic apartment within the M50: https://www.independent.ie/business/personal-finance/property-mortgages/income-of-100000-needed-for-cheapest-dublin-apartments-40010945.html
Not a peep from Darragh O’Brien.
And it is that very issue, unless tackled that will see FF slaughtered in Dublin.
But shur they’d hardly feel it in Dublin
They’re all but wiped out here as it is
Sean Haughey DBN, didn’t break 10% or reach the quota, was deemed elected on the last Count, the new comer from the Soc Dems Cian above there, out polled him. A newcomer of sorts outpolling a Haughey c’mon like
then there’s Darragh O’B himself just up the road in Fingal, who did alright for himself with about 16% of the 1st Prefs, but the Shinners Louise all but outpolled him 2:1, and now he’s a Senior Minister, but she’ll have a running mate next time out for sure
John Lahart DSW, barely broke 8%, another lad deemed elected to the last seat without reaching the quota (Mr Catherine Martin out polled him btw)
Paul McAuliffe took the last seat, again without achieving the quota but with a healthy 12% in fairness, in DNW
And the man that would be Leader Jim, only tripped into that last seat in DBS
thats five, none of them safe or poll toppers in Dublin, with what, 45 seats available
and soon to be 46? that Regina is chasing
even if they are slaughtered in the GE next time out
Nobody in Dublin will notice tbh
not even the eFFers themselves
Yep. How many houses did FF build across Ireland in the 1950’s to 1960’s, I believe it was tens of thousands. That was before Ireland had decent roads, motorways, computers, instant communication, mobile phones, massive advances in construction technology. How can a country be so pathetic at building in the 21st Century? Because they don’t want to build anything. They don’t care about the housing crisis, only about their money, their pensions and their golden circles.
Ireland did build a massive amount from the 1940s on but that was because most the population lived in appalling tenement squalor. This regeneration resulted in new locations like Ballyfermot and Crumlin. This regeneration of course also led to widespread social issues in the longer term. So back then there was a real social need for mass building which, in turn, dragged along with in improvements in roads, electricity, sewage systems etc. So you can’t make a direct comparison.
There is an interesting article here

Interesting in itself but also because it’s still pretty relevant 8 years later.
And it is that very issue, unless tackled or at least acknowledged that will see FF slaughtered in Dublin.
are you shilling for SF?
wait till giggidy hears about this – ‘he took ma jerrrrb!!’
Lol. Leave the auld nasty Giggidybot to me – I usually leave them flailing.
Still, I did think it revelatory that Darragh O’Brien was mute about this one and it was O’Broin drawing attention to what was surely the central issue of the last GE. They have learned nothing and the pandemic surely won’t offer a handy distraction for ever.
Well cut my legs off and call me shorty.! The flat-earth planter pulls a surprise thought, and fools Scottser. Ah lads. He even posted it twice.
I hope McCabe gets wind of this. The Bpoxy can’t handle him at all. ROFL
Still, it’ll be hard to out-do Excavator Murphy
Guffaw. Giggidybot and McCabe – two abusive loons for the price of one!
Back under your rock now. I’ve had my fun.
Until the next time!
