Bad weather has hampered the UK’s vaccine programme again with ‘only‘ 356,291 jabs being delivered making an overall total of 13,162,878. Or one in four of all adults.

    Ireland’s overall total is 236,996.

Meanwhile, Boris “ Winston “ Johnson’s polling figures continue to knock the risible Labour opposition into a cocked hat, reflecting widespread approval of his handling of the pandemic so far and confirming the old adage that social media and the Irish press are not real life.

Which political party, if any, do you think has the best team of leaders to deal with the country’s problems?

    CON: 41%

    LAB: 21%

    SNP: 5%

    LD: 1%

    OTH: 2% Via

The BOGOF job-sharing Taoisigh would stab each other in the front for approval ratings like this.

That adds to 70% silly man. What about the other 30%? So you’re saying 41% think the Tories? That leaves 59% who don’t think the Tories. Think you’re scraping the barrel there old boy.

If the usual suspects on here can just hold their noses for a moment the Sun has been leaked early vaccine research findings which are excellent news for Ireland’s vaccine programme.
Both the AZ and Pfizer jabs start offering very good protection across all age groups including 65+ within a fortnight of the first vaccination.

I just searched for Charger Salmons in Google. Very interesting findings. Looked at peoplesrepublicofcork. Admiral Nelson and Charger Salmons??? Kate????
        Marvelous.

So any chance of commenting on the death rate for the UK Kate? I wouldn’t think so me old mate. In the last 24 hours in the UK, another 1,052 deaths, bringing the total to almost 114,000. And before anyone jumps on and says I shouldn’t be posting about numbers of deaths, I totally agree. But I make an exception for this silly.
For someone who takes every opportunity to bash anything Irish, it’s funny how you are still happy enough to live here. And so much for a heads up on the new UK news channel. I read about that two weeks ago on Press Gazette you absolute silly.
    Marvelous.

BP’s front page commentary didn’t chime with me at all. He seems to have totally bought into government narratives on lockdown policy that time and again aren’t backed by solid evidence when you dig down into it. Also I find it hard to fathom taking an apologist stance on what to me is an outrageous and sinister announcement from the UK government about potentially sentencing citizens to10 years in prison. It’s psychological warfare reminiscent of a brutal police state.

The latest narrative about the increased dangers from emerging variants hasn’t been based on solid scientific evidence and much of it is connected to the now notorious Neli Ferguson.

From molecular biologist and independent journalist, Rosemary Fei:

    https://www.globalresearch.ca/new-variants-very-dangerous/5736372

“so far it seems the main basis for officials saying (the base mutation) is more deadly is shown in the minutes of the Jan. 21, 2021 meeting of an influential UK committee, NERVTAG”
(of which Ferguson is a member). The committee cited three modelling papers as evidence.

“..None of the three papers was checked over for accuracy by objective observers – ‘peer review.’ Nonetheless, all three were portrayed as solid science by many scientists, politicians, public-health officials and the press…”

“Neil Ferguson was a co-author of the first and third papers”

“(The papers) describe experiments with the virus in mice or petri dishes, not observation of whether in fact the variants are truly more contagious or more deadly…” (worth reading in full)

Unlike the NCH Total Cost promises you were so proud of Cian

I see they’re are now admitting it’ll tip over 2B
+ another 22 months to completion

btw folks as of last Friday, BAM have entered 700 + additional cost claims

I’m still pitching it will be closer to 3b when it finally opens its doors
my guess is they’ll open part in late 23/ early 24. Day clinics/ MRIs
I also reckon they’ll be forced to take overflows from James’

Although it’ll never be at anything like full capacity
The earliest the NCH will be capable of getting signed off for full acute and trauma centre status
will be mid 2025. But my guess is it will look more like 2027

so that’s where a starting budget of 650m
and a completion date of ….. last year 2020 has gotten the Irish Taxpayer
        so far

        oooppps

The IFR estimate of “0.5-1.0%” referenced in your link comes from a WHO brief dated August 4th. But that’s been superseded by a new median estimate of 0.23% published in a WHO bulletin dated 14th October. The thread you linked to is dated December 24th.

Ferguson’s Covid IFR estimate of 0.9% turned out to be a gross overestimation based on the flimsiest of modelling methodologies. A wild extrapolation from 6 detected cases on 6 passenger flights from Wuhan
Graham Neary breaks it down in this thread:
        https://twitter.com/GrahamNeary/status/1294645063985836032

Back in May, Ferguson released a heavily revised version of the source code behind his Covid-19 modelling, after refusing to release the original. Even the revised version couldn’t conceal the fact that it was amateurish and bug-laden.

But even before Covid he had already gained notoriety for getting predictions badly wrong.

        To quote journalist John Fund:

‘Ferguson has been wrong so often that some of his fellow modelers call him “The Master of Disaster.”

Ferguson was behind the disputed research that sparked the mass culling of eleven million sheep and cattle during the 2001 outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease.

In 2002, Ferguson predicted that, by 2080, up to 150,000 people could die from exposure to BSE (mad cow disease) in beef. In the U.K., there were only 177 deaths from BSE.

In 2005, Ferguson predicted that up to 150 million people could be killed from bird flu. In the end, only 282 people died worldwide from the disease between 2003 and 2009.

In 2009, a government estimate, based on Ferguson’s advice, said a “reasonable worst-case scenario” was that the swine flu would lead to 65,000 British deaths. In the end, swine flu killed 457 people in the U.K.’

I think the reason he still holds his position of influence is because he has no qualms in fitting scientific conclusions according to what powerful vested interests want to hear

      Vote to proceed 56-44.
Impeachment is dead in the water.
Big mistake by Democrats to have a second failed throw of the dice and already shows Sleepy Joe is not in control of his party.
The fun and games are only just beginning.

Hopefully Trump destroys the Republican party. He could create a new political party, removing 30% of support for Republicans. Then that would leave just one powerful party riddled with corruption, the dems. They have a lot of cleaning up to do, but at least more people than ever would get to vote, if they remove the jerrymandering of districts in many states.

Rather concerning advert on the bottom of The Echo front page.

This crowd claiming you can be FREE from addiction (any, apparently) with their twelve week course. Which is actually being said is that religious belief will set you ‘free’ from addiction. A very particular form of religious belief as well. Their sort.

According to the course director, Tony Mahony: ”Today I am a recovered alcoholic not a recovering alcoholic.”

Sorry Tony, you will ALWAYS be a recovering alcoholic. That’s just the way of it.

This sort of stuff could be very, very dangerous. Its essentially a US style fundamentalist church run by someone who clearly does not understand addiction issues outside of their own personal experiences. Again, according to Tony, ”Jesus Christ is the solution to all our problems no matter what they are.”

Em, no, cancer, heart disease, getting hit by a car will not be solved by praying, it might help your mental state if you are a believer but to claim it will ‘cure’ (not treat mind, cure) is dangerous stuff indeed. No surprise this sort of group is openly advertising in this current climate, groups like this always appear to surge during crises and one has to wonder who is footing the bill? Probably the same US groups who opposed SSM and Repeal. The Echo obviously not too pushed who advertises so long as they are paying.

Maybe Jesus is the answer though ;)

Ah no, only joking. I’m not too bothered at this kind of stuff tbh.

If you visit his site there, yer man is pretty upfront about the level of fanaticism you need I have for this to “work”.

I’d be more critical if they were keeping the wacky religious aspect a secret and then springing it unsuspecting on a punter half way through. Like Scientology or something.

As an aside on the “always an alcoholic thing.” A family member used to have a serious drink problem. (2-3 bottles of vino a night – every night!). He gave it up a few years back and stayed off it for a while and now drinks socially again.

His theory is that as long as he told himself he couldn’t have a drink, then the addiction still had control over him. And the only way to truly know he had beaten it was to have a social drink every once in a while and then stop.

Worked for him anyway. Not saying it would work for everyone.

But, is he still an alcoholic? I dunno.

It’s not in dispute that he borrowed and received the cash which he spent -it’s a fact that he owes it,why is an irish barrister allowed make spurious nonsensical arguments in court.

This is junk law, absolute garbage,he or she will be rewarded with a high court judicial appointment…

Was he by any chance DOB’’s bag man, same BS.

Hey you borrowed that money from the state, pay it back or declare bk and hand over the keys,I’d go after his pension too…

“Mr Browne has begun giving evidence in an action against him for recovery of some €30 million in loans he got from Anglo. Special liquidators appointed to its successor, the Irish Bank Resolution Corporation (IBRC), are seeking judgment because of his default on those loans.”

He has counterclaimed saying the loans were void by reason of fraudulent misrepresentation through silence by Anglo about the involvement of the Quinn Group in the ownership of the bank“
