Daily vaccination numbers in Ireland have fallen by 40% over the last week.

The 7-day average of total vaccine doses administered has fallen to 24,612, the lowest level recorded since the HSE started releasing daily vaccination numbers.

Over the same period Northern Ireland administered 95,186 doses, nearly four times more than the Republic.

NI vaccinated 5% of their population over this 7 day period, 10 times faster than the Republic, which vaccinated 0.5% of its population over that time, on a per capita basis.

    Two countries, one island.

Oh good man Kate, just like the cricket that you selectively post about, there’s no mention from you whatsoever about deaths in the UK from the virus. Another 799 deaths today, total now over 118,000. Over twice the rate here. But of course that doesn’t interest or bother you. Only good things about England/UK are what you will post.
      Marvelous.

Roger Irrelevant (“He’s Completely Hatstand”) – a young man with a very strange mental problem where he continually produces irrelevant and surreal streams of language and behaviour. In one strip, Roger throws a lamp from the roof of a house after a long, impassioned (and obviously unsuccessful) plea for the lamp not to commit suicide. On another occasion he decides to elope with an armchair, declaring it is pregnant with his children. Another time sees him disrupting the funeral of a relative by dragging the corpse out of the coffin and – employing a Brooklyn accent and emulating a character from a Mickey Spillane novel – aggressively questioning the deceased about some stolen goods. His parents seem to be very understanding and merely politely request that he stops his behaviour. These are the only times that Roger manages to show any sign of interaction with real people, although usually it is only in the form of saying things like “wibble wibble”. (dictionary.com attributes this nonsense-word to Roger; see External Links below.) “Frisnit” and “z’goft” are two of Roger’s other favourite words.

Encouraging news for Ireland’s vaccination programme.
Early results from the UK’s vaccination programme show the fatality rate in the 80+ age range, the first to be vaccinated in January, is falling fast.
I expect the other age cohorts to show similar results 3-4 weeks after completion of the vaccination programme for that sector so by the end of February the death rate among over-70s will also be dropping off a cliff.
Here in Ireland with the 85+ age cohort beginning to be vaxxed this we should see falls in death rates by early March.

Is anyone asking if the delays in the EUs Vaccine roll-out has anything to do with Finance President, our own Paschal Donohue btw, acting the ….. lets just say PomPom that ok with you Bodger?

    Or is it just me

meanwhile, it looks like the “one shot Johnson+Johnson easy to transport & store”, will get the ok by Paddys Day
which IMO could be the game changer in the Grand Vaccine Prix

So folks, today is the start of Lent
a good opportunity to try and flatten our own curves now as it could be July / August when we’re back trying to fit into our bikini bottoms

Thanks for the wonderful image V …
Only yesterday Lady Charger was wondering whether I’d get the chance this year to wear my spangly budgie-smugglers.

    Bono’s girl: I was a terror.

Yeah, among normal people its called being annoying love.

Your dad’s a rock star, you’re a rock stars daughter.

    1. bertie blenkinsop

And yet, being Bono’s son has probably worked against Inhaler, who are fairly decent IMO (if a tad derivative, but all new bands are when you’re an aulfella)

the ‘papers comments are such a car crash these days; even when Eoin was around, it was never so bad.

Pity the Indo wasn’t in on time for Tomorrow Tonight. I would have liked John and Bernard’s views on Robbo and whether anything can be done by way of trade sanctions to stop the UAE imprisoning its daughters on a whim.

      The short answer is no.
If the EU is unwilling to do anything about China’s treatment of minorities and the political crackdown in Hong Kong it’s hardly likely to lift a finger to help out a rich princess in Dubai.
Too much moolah at stake for all involved.

        1. Charger Salmons

          Indeed.
Although Boris is taking a much tougher stance with China than the EU.
And the EU, notably the Germans, have been cosying up to Putin far too much for Sleepy Joe’s liking.

          1. bisted

…demonising China now Charger…why…for taking action against Islamic violence in their secular country…for clamping down on US backed insurgents in Hong Kong…talking about Hong Kong, when are you sending over that nice Mr Patton over to sort out a transition deal in the 6 counties?

          2. Brother Barnabas

while I’m generally fond of you, bisted, you do have some peculiar views (not as peculiar as the ‘other lot’, granted)

An extraordinary talent. Kept many a kid keep turning the pages on a history book to get to the next picture.

I’d just like to say the Lidl Greyson’s Gin is a total revelation.
At €15 a bottle it’s an absolute bargain.
Easily beats many of its better-known rivals at twice the price.
Lovely old-school green Gordon’s-style bottle too.
    Highly recommended.

Sleepy Joe currently telling everyone there was no Covid vaccine before he became President.
