£350 million a week to the NHS promised by Vote Leave and Boris? Eh no, £3.50.
    Must have been a typo.

      1. Charger Salmons

Any idea what the Irish nurses pay rise is going to be this year or are you just in urgent need of one of them to treat you for a serious case of inferiority complex ?

          1. Charlie

Imagine a Brit feeling that inferior to a Mick. Oh how the mighty have fallen. It’s a great time to be alive.

          2. Brother Barnabas

if you strip it back to the bare basics – you’ve a guy posting brit-boasting comments on a small irish news website forum multiple times a day and clearly investing a large amount of his day into it… it’s so beyond pathetic, it’s tragic

charger deserves pity and sympathy, not scorn

        1. Charger Salmons

The pay rise for the public sector in Ireland, including most nurses, which is due in October 2021 is … 1%.
There’s stupid and then there’s Broadsheet stupid.

          1. Nigel

When your only defense is to compare a country with the population of the UK to a country with the population of Ireland you have already lost.

          2. Charger Salmons

I like to think all the NHS staff who come from a rainbow of nations are equally as good.
I have fond memories of a lovely Caribbean nurse from Barbados who was running A&E when I was taken there after being hit square on the hooter trying to hook a vicious bouncer for six in the pre-helmet days.
” So who do you think you are,Viv Richards ? ” she joked while trying to stem the claret.
Marvellous lady and a credit to the Commonwealth.

          3. millie bobby brownie

I suppose the question is whether she’ll be thanked for her service in the same way many of the Windrush generation were thanked.

          4. Clampers Outside

Jaysus Nigel… It’s as if you are willing to throw all self respect away just to get a one up… with all the… we’re only this.. we’re only that… excuse type argument.

Please stop, it makes for pathetic reading.

          5. bisted

…trying to hook a vicious bouncer may have lost something in translation there Charger…but the outcome is usually the same…

          6. Charger Salmons

            Aye.
Severe pain and a bad headache.
Fortunately I have always treated security personnel with respect and courtesy.
The annoying thing was I was on top of the bowler and nearing my half-century but given the state of some of the pitches we played on it was always a risky shot.
Btw, please don’t mention India this morning.

          7. Charger Salmons

            @millie.
She was one of the 500,000 Windrush generation who have settled perfectly happily in the UK.
And very greatful they are too just like the hundreds of thousands of Irish people given comfort by Britannia after their own country let them down.
We’re a kindly old Blighty really and if you’re very well behaved we might even help you out with some of our spare vaccines in return.
Looking at today’s headlines it seems Mehole is softening you up for some more bad news.
            Huzzah !

          8. Nigel

            ‘very gratfeul they are to’

Charger here speaking on behalf of two multi-generational groups of UK immigrants, papering over some fairly appalling mistreatemt. Good old ‘Hostile Environment’ Blighty.

          9. Nigel

I do, yes. Once again, though we’re just a tiny wee country beside the mighty UK, we have no Windrush Generation to abuse and then piously preach about, and if we did we wouldn’t have the shameless cyncism to try to deflect from it by pointing at the Isle Of Man.

        2. Charger Salmons

And of course RTE is totally complicit in the great vaccine roll-out charade.
Today it reports that Ireland’s performance is falling short of the “100,000 per week promised for the month of March.”
Actually Ireland was promised a lot more than 100,000 per week for the month of March.
Closer to 200,000 per week, on average, to hit the 1.25 million that Mehole predicted would be completed by March 31st.
          They’re still fooling you.

          1. Fergalito

I’d suggest “Stones from the Glasshouse” as a more apt presage to your frequent parps from the Brexit flugelhorn…..

        1. Charger Salmons

The same thing that happened to the immediate recession and two million unemployed in the event of a Brexit vote that Remain promised.
But free healthcare in hospital, free GP visits and free treatment whatever the cost is still the same.
And if it’s that poorly paid why does the NHS attract qualified staff from just about every country on the planet including a great many Irish people ?

        2. Charger Salmons

The real fact is Daisy that private sector pay has collapsed in the UK.
And the rest of the public sector is on a pay freeze.
Even if this figure was 2 or 3% the headlines would still be the same.
To be threatening strike action while the country is still in lockdown is monumental folly by the nursing unions.
And sympathy for people in secure jobs with generous pensions, holidays and sick pay who are demanding more money is in very short supply st the moment.

  2. Charger Salmons

Perhaps the nurses ought to consider that their pay has gone up 7% in real terms in the last year, the current rate of inflation is 0.9%, 800,000 people have been made redundant and millions more furloughed because of Covid, huge numbers of businesses have been shuttered and the UK government is borrowing £1billion a day to pay for the pandemic while some of them have spent their time making TikTok videos in empty hospital wards.
They can threaten strike action as much as they want but there won’t be much sympathy from people who haven’t worked in a year.
It’s also why there’s very little concern for whiney teachers complaining about having to go back to work.

Anti-lockdown rally — They should be made to work in ICU for a week, that will make them realise that the virus is real.

    1. Micko

No one on here is denying that the virus isn’t real Formerly . Of course it is.

It’s whether we should sacrifice our society and economy for it, especially since it has such a low fatality rate.

I say no, you say yes. That’s all we disagree on (I think)

It’s great for you that you live in a country (Oz) that is fortunate geographically and economically to facilitate a nationwide closing of borders etc

But your suggestion that the majority of people attending those rallies don’t think that the virus is real and are only there because they are ignorant, I believe is just incorrect

I believe the majority are there because they have very little left to lose and are at the end of their tether.

Or like me they have a very worrying feeling that these restrictions and virus will never “go away” and be used to limit our freedoms around travel, movement. etc.

      I of course hope I’m wrong. ;)

      1. Formerly known as @ireland.com

The death rate is part of the story, long Covid is another part. Ireland should be doing better. People should be compensated so that they can afford to stay at home. That is what happened in Oz. We had a four-month lockdown in Melbourne. All our rights are back, apart from free travel overseas. There is no conspiracy to take them away.

        1. Micko

“ People should be compensated so that they can afford to stay at home. That is what happened in Oz”

Are you saying no one lost their business in Oz?

          How much were people compensated?

      1. millie bobby brownie

The onus is on you to prove your claim is right, eoin. You make the claim, you back it up.

          1. Brother Barnabas

as someone (dont remember who) retorted to that exact comment from Eoin a while back:

Balls are filled with pee. Prove me wrong.

          2. millie bobby brownie

It’s a pet hate of mine. On a par with people who use the word ‘irregardless’.

          3. Nigel

I don’t know why, but I love ‘irregardless.’ There just aren’t that many single words that acheive that kind of long expansive flow with the seamless little push in the middle syllable, it’s like striding from rock to rock along a mountain ridge with the wind in your wild Byronic hair, your walking stick stabbing into the heather for emphasis as you explain the ways of the hidden universe to an audience of wild goats perched wisely in impossible crags.

          4. Best friends forever

“Prove me wrong” was former WWF contender Chris Benoit’s catchphrase. We all know what happened to him.

          5. Best friends forever

I hate to be awkward Nigel but is it possible to perch “wisely” in “impossible” crags?

    1. Cú Chulainn

It was a very long time ago when he was young and passionate priest, but he swears he never touched her.. oh, COVID-19 ?, I misheard you. Of course Il Pappa knows, he got his first jab 12 weeks ago..

    1. Rosette of Sirius

By all accounts he was a very naughty boy and his wife took and shared that pic. That’s the goss out K4 way.

      1. Steph Pinker

Rosette, why write blatant lies such as you’ve just published on an internet forum? Seriously, [by all accounts] you can’t just make stuff up and libel a person’s reputation without just cause, or if it’s not factual.

          1. Bottler

What is very true is that he is extremely disliked by the self entitled and very jealous aristocrats of Horse & Hound.

          2. goldenbrown

            well
there’s one or two rumours of that nature doing the rounds alrite and we don’t know for sure one way or the other Rosette
            but
the one thing I can tell ya (I have a connection who has a couple of fingers in that particular industry) is that there’s a major witchhunt going on right now to root out who “spat in the soup”….and they 110% will find out….some very pi££ed off people in that world over what’s gone down here

          3. Rosette of Sirius

I’ve heard that myself. Well, moreso my wife and her local ladies’ circle of whom some are in the know.

          4. Lilly

He’s not married but has been in a relationship with Kate Harrington. Apparently GE is not a nice person to work for, to put it mildly.

      2. Cú Chulainn

Might it have been the husband of a wronged woman..? Asking for a jockey friend of mine…

    2. bertie blenkinsop

The amount of people rushing to stick the boot in and the deafening silence of support is probably a decent indicator of how he dealt with people on his ascent.

      1. goldenbrown

        personalities aside…
some unwritten rules have been smashed here
many not taking kindly to having a light shone into their usually nice opaque universe
a lot of money, politics (actual) and power involved

could get interesting if the likes of Paul Kimmage starts poking around

        1. bertie blenkinsop

Paul Kimmage is such a curmudgeon he even managed to fall out with Brian O’Driscoll –
          that’s no mean feat.

          1. goldenbrown

            true
but you don’t have to like him
(it’s kinda what I like about him)
my how he hunted down Lance Armstrong
dog with a bone par excellence

  4. MacGafraidh

The examiner says Elliot got a 12 month ban and everyone else says he got a 6 month suspension.. Either way the photo was terrible, his response was commendable.

In other news, Ireland has the longest Lockdown duration for businesses and our vaccines are delayed. If i didn’t know better I’d nearly say that the government don’t give enough fupps! Wouldn’t you love to get Micheal Martin in a headlock and just nuggy the little balding spot off him “guarantee me vaccines ya little Clown”. I’d say do it to Donnelly but I’d crack the little egg head.

  5. Charlie

What a lovely day to be alive. Get out there folks and walk like mofos. Enjoy your weekend x

    1. ian-Og

      Ha ha ha.

Surely Trouser Dump Trump is paying this patriots legal fees after collecting all that cash?

        1. Rosette of Sirius

Is he president again already or was March 4 another any day now wasted moment?

  6. Janet, dreams of an alternate universe

I’d like to thank everyone for their well wishes, I have returned to the land of the living well as close as you can be on morphine lol,

    3. Bitnboxy

Love when Broadsheet brings out the best in posters- even GiggidyGoo for a change.

Nice to read the above posts of congratulations.

        1. Bitnboxy

I spoke too soon re GiggidyPox – abusing and doling out the slurs below. That person is not well.

      1. Brother Barnabas

it’s when the names come out that the real fun will get going, millz

compliance dept says it wasnt informed so that’s why it didnt act – but wait until we see who in the compliance dept was part of the 16

        1. johnny

          oh and take your time……

          1. Brother Barnabas

honestly, johnny, I was just curious to see how long it would take you – like a fly to plop

and you think its curtains for irelands only primary bond dealer over this -hahaha:)

          3. Brother Barnabas

why would i do a “summary” for you, johnny? i linked an article that contains all the information you need

and when did i say it would be “curtains” for Davys? never said that – but it will be for one individual

          4. millie bobby brownie

Johnny, just so you know that Irish Times article isn’t behind a paywall, as far as I can see anyways, if you do want to have a read.

There is a less detailed one up on the journal if the IT one is indeed behind a paywall for you.

          5. Johnny

            Linked an article :)

So you can’t give a summary, man what a loser,oh yeah here’s the IT on it…..your only source is Joe Brennan, from last at Bloomberg.

            That’s your only info,you can’t add anything to Joe’s coverage,pitiful bro.

    1. ian-Og

No idea whats between you and Johnny BB but I’ve always found you polite, reasonable and interesting. That is all I have to say about that.

  7. johnny

…it really does take a very special type of stopid,to link articles and pretend to know something about a topic, yet be completely and totally unable to articulate wtf it is you keep linking too.

rent free every day,its just so uncool,he cant even engage yet calls me out constantly,i ask for ‘splainer im a scumbag…

i mean the bro can’t even summarize what he keeps linking too-lets start at the beginning bro who’s the maple 10 and what it have do with this situation, take your time..

obsession is not just a cheap perfume…

    1. Brother Barnabas

“…it really does take a very special type of stopid,to link articles and pretend to know something about a topic”

hahaha it certainly does, johnny – takes a unique brand of utter thickness to do something like that. remember this:

      broadsheet.ie/2019/08/14/johnny-green-theres-nothing-like-homemade/

hard to believe it’s more than a year ago – still as funny today, though! no more “johnny green” articles after that – wonder why!

        1. Brother Barnabas

          ah giggz… goodness

(once more – but for the last time – I am not bitnboxy or benblack. but, of course, think whatever you want)

          1. GiggidyGoo

Yet you accuse me of similar, though I’ve told you many times that I use one alias only here.So pardon me.

          2. Brother Barnabas

giggz, I’m actually fine with you accusing me of whatever you want- honestly, I dont really care. and, in fact, it wasnt so long ago that you used to accuse me of being a criminal (remember that?), so I suppose it’s an improvement of sorts. all I’m saying is that I use one name only on BS – a denial you can accept or reject.

          3. Bitnboxy

Lol! Poor aul GiggidyPox losing it again and trotting out all the greatest hits. Mark my words, the person behind this account is troubled.

We are all quite well aware of GiggidyPox’s deranged obsession with aliases, accusing all and sundry of having them and then we are expected to believe the GooPox has no aliases, ever?! I call BULL and two words: Mick McCabe – sane tired insults and slurs as GiggidyPox and the same turn of phrase.

For the love of all things sane, GiggidyPox, give it up!

          4. GiggidyGoo

And sure as night follows day. ROFL.

And….I didn’t accuse you of being a criminal. That was you admitting you’d have no hesitation acting in an illegal way, and me reminding you that you’d said so a few times. Your memory isn’t that great now is it?

  8. Verbatim

Janet your news should have been on the front page of today’s newspapers – they’re hopeless!
Congratulations and welcome to the brand new baba

      1. Brother Barnabas

occurred to me earlier- wonder will the two broadsheet babas ever cross paths over course of their lives. nice to think they might.
