46500 doses is a pathetic amount of doses. A pathetic amount.

Do a big side deal with Johnson and Johnson you stupid stupid government.

    lol

I misread the headline initially, thought it said 465,000

this is seriously fupping pathetic stuff….why announce such a miniscule number?

    NOT a good news story

it’s utterly dire millie, I could do with a laugh but it ain’t this

proudly “announcing” nonsense like this shows the amateur mentality…sure bloody Landsdowne holds 51,711 on a matchday ffs?!?

if I had a business that was being held down at present I would open up in protest at this

        grrrrrrrrrrrrr

Indeed as I mentioned earlier the UK will have done that amount of vaccines today before the mid-morning coffee break.
Problem is Mehole is in a bind.
Slavishly loyalty to his EU overlords meant the spare vaccine boat has already sailed with half a dozen other EU countries on board and in the sick bay loading up on doses.
He’s already looked foolish by asking Boris a question the answer to which he already knew.
Now, he’s just desperate thinking 46,000 will have everyone cheering from the rooftops.
Many more vaccines will hopefully come through in the second quarter but now is the time they’re need if another damaging summer of lockdowns and restrictions is to be avoided.

We traditionally get one per cent of whats going.
It will be the same for the eu rescue fund which means we will trouser about 7.5bn.
Drop in the ocean compared what we are spending now.

  5. Junkface

What negotiator he is! Wow! 65,000 for a country with a population of 4.2 million. Everybody stop what you are doing a get the best Champagne out.

  6. GiggidyGoo

    What an embarrassment.
Can he produce a document with this confirmation of such a massive amount.
    These vaccines aren’t ‘extra’ either.
    Pathetic wannabe

The longer this goes on we see that there is no real leadership here. No desire to stand out from the crowd globally and for Ireland to make its own decisions.

Just the “let’s follow what everyone else is doing”. Micheal figuratively ‘cogging’ the answers on a test from the lad beside him. .

Except the lad beside us (and credit where credit is due), the UK are smashing it out of the park.

At this stage and especially with the report from yesterday that the third wave was probably inevitable, I’m really hoping that the seasonal component is a much bigger part and this whole thing just peters out.

It really is pathetic that this is being treated as a news story. Let’s do the maths that RTÉ and The irish Times are apparently incapable of doing for us:

    • There are 4,904,000 people in the State.

    • 1 million are under 15, so they don’t need to be vaccinated, so that leaves us 3,900,000.

    • Let’s assume as many as 10 percent of these are morons, anti-vaxers, etc who will not take the vaccine, so that leaves us 3,510,000.

    • As things stand, all of these have to get two doses, so that’s 7,020,000 doses

    • As of 7 March, 375,521 had received their first dose, and 150,247 had received their second dose, so that’s 6,869,753 doses to go.

    • There are 113 days until 1 July, which would require 60,794 vaccinations every day, including the weekends:

1 August (144 days) = rate of 47,707 per day.
1 September (175 days) = rate of 39,255 per day.
1 October (205 days) = rate of 33,511 per day.

Depressing, isn’t it? So get onto your local Government TD and tell her or him to do *whatever it takes* to speed it up.

Don’t forget the 200K+ people who’ve already had Covid and are grand now – they don’t need it either.

Plus, since only very small numbers of people under 45 (about 40 I think) have died in the entire year with Covid – I think they’d be grand too. Unless they really want it.

      1. Junkface

Immunity only lasts for 6 months if you have already had covid 19. Herd immunity requires about 80 to 90% of the public to be vaccinated.

        1. Micko

Dunno JF, I believe they have no idea how long immunity lasts.

          https://www.bbc.com/news/health-52446965

Article here from Jan stating that they think immunity lasts at least 5 months – but that’s only because that’s the length of the analysis.

Also: “It is also not understood what happens to T cells in the long term. But T cells against the original Sars (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) have been found 17 years later.”

I’ve already had Covid – so I’d rather trust in my bodies ability to beat it again and again rather than get a vaccine every 6 months. Especially since apparently the vaccine doesn’t stop you from spreading it.

But that’s just me – to each their own.

And still not the slightest scintilla of a whiff of a sniff of disapproval from the Coalition towards the EU whose fault this whole debacle is.
    No sirree sir no.
    Nothing to see here.
Just accept the 46,000 extra jabs with enormous gratitude towards She Who Must Be Obeyed.
They’re taking you for a ride suckers …

Meanwhile the EU’s embarrassment goes from bad to worse.
In an attempt to deflect attention from why the EU has such a deplorable vaccination roll-out record the EC President Charles Michel ( I know, I know, who the hell is he you’re asking ) complained that the UK and USA had an export ban on Covid vaccines.
Today, after a senior EU official was summoned to the Foreign Office for a dressing down after Boris told Parliament this was a total lie, a grovelling EU spokesman has admitted it was totally wrong.
Just for the record here’s the latest score on vaccine exports banned.
    EU: 250,000
    UK 0.

    Morto

  11. Termagant

It’s pretty telling how smoothly the EU shirts shifted gears from “we’re all in this together, we have to all pull together to get through this difficult time” to “it’s every country for themselves, you have to sort out your own vaccines, get away from those vaccines you buppyhole they’re MINE”

Some countries have wised up to the fact that reliance on the European machine to arrange delivery of vaccines is a dead-end street, I hope we get there at some stage. Well, hope is a strong word, wish maybe.
