    RE: TT; Dan, the reason trees are felled or removed, whether it’s for a walkway [Greenway] or a railway line is to prevent accidents due to natural detritus falling – anyone who knows about nesting birds or other ‘wildlife’ knows that they tend not to nest close to human habitation/behaviour to the point whereby it’s an imposition; so your argument is fallible.

    Also, regarding the AV vaccine and blood clots; there are tentative causative links being suggested about AV and contraceptive pills used by women.

    … one more thing, deflection, dancing with words or being economic with the truth will never excuse what Varadkar did, and has done.

      Generally the AZ vaccine gives you a 1 in 500,000 chance of getting a clot.
      Using a birth control pill has about a 1 in 1000 risk.

    Interesting headline on The Echo, which completely misrepresents EMA’s actual analysis of the AZ vaccine and the clots signal (I’m ignoring the UK papers since they are simply parroting what Boris said and so not relevant).

    EMA not only didn’t say the vaccine is safe, they don’t mention the word in their documentation. EMA’s conclusion is that although currently the risk benefit is positive–in rare cases–the vaccine might cause serious clotting issues in some people within 14 days of vaccination. The data set however is not big enough to determine what characterises people at increased risk, and they mention 25 identified concerning cases (so far) for 20 million doses administered.

    Drug safety is a relative concept and alarm bells should ring when someone says that any drug is ‘safe’ or ‘unsafe’. Risk Benefit is the preferred term because all drugs carry risk. Vaccines generally particularly so because there is *always* an inherent risk of an injection site reaction. Risk benefit for infectious pathogens is dynamic, because the risk is determined by how likely one is to be infected. If the attack rate drops, the ratio changes. Drug regulators therefore (should) review risk benefit for all treatments for infectious pathogens based on epidemiology. A number of vaccines have been withdrawn when risk/benefit became unfavorable: oral polio vaccine [which had positive R/B until about 1992 when the attack rate dropped] and mouse-brain derived vaccines [for which R/B became negative when modern production techniques became more widespread].

    It’s also worth looking at the section on the same EMA page ‘For Healthcare Professionals’ which clearly lays out that there is a signal of concern relating to blood clots that needs careful monitoring, and that physicians should be aware of this before administering the vaccine, and that the prescribing leaflet will be amended.

    Main lesson from this is, before you believe what you read on the papers or on twitter, go and read the source documentation.

      They were playing politics with the AZ vaccine. Of course its all clear now to go ahead, but the EU and some other countries were messing around AND during a pandemic, so people will have died while they pretended the AZ vaccine was not safe. Safer than covid19 guys!

        These sort of stats get lost over time particularly when they’re not reported by the Irish media.
        Last Sunday Ireland vaccinated 306 people.
        306.
        As a comparison the UK jabbed 257,010.

    The UK administered a stonking 581,855 new vaccine doses yesterday, the second highest daily total since the roll-out began.
    The number of second doses topped more than 100k for the first time.
    Elsewhere, Napoleon Macron has presided over a shambles of a vaccine roll out and as the third wave gathers pace has had to put Greater Paris into a month-long lockdown.
    Weeks ago he disastrously branded the AZ jab as ” quasi-ineffective.”
    Today French Prime Minister Jean Castex is to be vaccinated.

    No running water or flush toilets in 2,750+ Irish ‘dwellings’. Caravans are included in this figure. Permanently moored barge homes should be there too. There are some auld fellas living in the countryside whose parents never bothered to join group water schemes. Up on isolated hilly areas are also New Age travellers, hippies and wigwam enthusiasts dropping out from suburbia. May they have sweet dreams, artistic insights and discover the Meaning of Life even though they can’t discover any magic mushrooms in nearby forests and scrubland.
