just because Owen Keegan is a fan of the very niche sport. Glad it’s been turned down but how much has been wasted on consultants fees for such a dumb idea?
They’ll probably seek a private backer before putting it to bed.
We might find our respective selves rafting yet at Dublin Whitewater, brought to you by the People’s Bank of China.
Or those on stag dos may, at any rate.

there are sports facilities that can be used by more people than own or can afford to rent a kayak that would cost far less. I can list them?
It would be great to see better use made out of Dublin’s river and sea assets for healthy recreation uses – yet putting a costly mega project in the city’s wealthiest district was never the answer.
Glad to see the Department of Environment fund the 1916 Moore Street museum, the Parnell Square library, and the Fruit & Vegetable Market refurbishment. The white elephants water raft facility is not needed.
just what’s needed; a facility that will be too cold to use 9 months of the year.
Now is such a perfect time, once they get over themselves, for DCC to host a student competition for a more realistic George’s Dock Project. The space offers so many opportunities and the supporting infrastructure is already in place.
This suggestion is far too sensible.
Maybe an ideas competition instead, where a six figure sum can be spent by DCC without actually doing anything useful – such as happened previously at 16 Henrietta Street, where a surface car park is still a site for ideas.
