Even @JoeBrolly1993 harshest critics believe he was harshly and rudely treated by Claire Byrne last night📺 @ClaireByrneLive
Her approach in general needs far more consistency. Thus far not a mention of it on radio today on 📻 @TodaywithClaire .#cblive#TodayCB #joebrolly pic.twitter.com/qjLKBCW8MD— Joe Seward (@JoeSeward1) March 23, 2021
Last night.
Claire Byrne Live on RTÉ One.
“You see them [the DUP] chuckling and guffawing when people are trying to have a serious discussion. Laughing at the Irish language, laughing at Gaelic sports, the homophobia, the racism, all these things.”
GAA pundit Joe Brolly before being yanked off air.

Meanwhile…
I was taken off air and told it was because RTE could not risk me saying the DUP were homophobic, racist or sectarian. I must apologise to the DUP at once. pic.twitter.com/9iZSSLC3gW

FIGHT!
If unionists want to describe themselves as British that’s fine with me. But they are not British in anyway you look at it. Edward Carson called himself an Irish unionist.
The treatment of Brolly was shocking.
I heard an ordinary unionist describe himself as “Irish, British and an Ulsterman” though probably not in that order. I don’t think at this stage of the game it is correct for anyone to define another’s identity for them much as some of it might stick in the craw.
I think the hardcore unionist is as JB described them homophobic and bigoted not to mention their zeal in placing a biased religion based ideology above the practical requirements for governing. Sure we all see the birdbrained triumphalist thuggery unfold every July or whenever the “fleg” is threatened. That said I’m sure most ordinary Joes, whether green or blue, just want to get on with life and living. Emptiest vessels are the ones that make the most noise.
in the 7,000 year history of the world, i have never heard such nonsense as that from joe brolly..
Claire Byrne let herself down there big time. Such a show cannot be taken seriously now.
Everyone kept saying “Look how far we’ve come that we are genuinely having this conversation” my take on it over the treatment of Joe was “Look how far we’ve come that RTE now defends bigoted unionists over stuff they have gone on record saying”
Joe is the man
Love the bones of him.
I didn’t see the programme but I get the impression the whole Brolly thing was a put-up job.
At least he made a stand.
A Brolly stand.
Oh suit yourselves ….
I’m no CB fan, but you cant allow people to say someone is racist or homophobic without them being able to defend themselves. Otherwise thats slander.
Whether they are a racist gombeen or not is not the issue. Journalism 101
ah yes, the ‘john waters’ defence. he can expect a cheque from RTE to the tune of 10 large any day now.
Joe was only relaying things the other guests have already made clear. It’s not slander if it’s true and can be verified.
Isn’t Brolly a barrister? He knows that he’s in the clear.
“…you cant allow people to say someone is racist or homophobic without them being able to defend themselves.”
You absolutely can if what they are saying is the truth.
nope
Joe was brought on exactly for this
you’d swear they never heard of Joe Brolly or didn’t know what to expect
Nailed it.
And Joe didn’t disappoint.
Look, Joe only said what we (and ordinary decent unionists) think of some of this creationist DUP lot. In fact, Gregory Curry My Yogurt Campbell, can barely claim any competence in the English language so as to give him the standing to mock other languages.
And I’d like Gregory to roar about how “British” he is to an average Englander with that accent of his. He may not like the response. Neither would Charage!
Can I guffaw?
…Gregory Campbell, nor anyone else in the DUP, care one bit what Claire Byrne or Joe Brolly think of them…what really bothers them is that the minute they step of the plane in London they are immediately Irish…
It must drive them potty.
Those Unionists really are a strange, strange bunch
So knowing that, why the constant harping on about a united Ireland ? Not you personally I might add.
Mercifully, his type are a minority.
Besides, when we get the 6 back they could always sod off back to the mainland if they so choose.
Your license money at work.
Isn’t that the same Gregory Campbell who was filmed loading a gun in a BBC documentary on the troubles. The same documentary in which McGuinness is seen with his daughter and behaving like a family man? (You can figure out which portrayal was demonised)
“Martin McGuinness, whose inclusion in the program sparked the ban, is an elected official and a leader of Sinn Fein, the political arm of the I.R.A. He’s Catholic, a churchgoer, and although he is shown on the beach with his children, he is also seen addressing an Easter rally during which masked men fire a volley of shots.
The other protagonist is Gregory Campbell, also an elected official, an up-and-coming leader of the Rev. Ian Paisley’s Democratic Unionist Party. He’s Protestant and thinks the police should gun down the I.R.A. He too plays with his child and in one sequence, which reportedly made the BBC brass blanch, is shown loading a revolver before he goes to church.” https://www.nytimes.com/1986/02/16/movies/once-banned-documentary-looks-at-a-divided-ireland.html
