From yesterday but an interesting story nonetheless. In a twist befitting one of his spy novels, John Le Carre discovered that his maternal grandmother was from West Cork; of whom he said “I owe everything I am and everything I have to this woman”. She was born in 1876 near Rosscarbery, in the home place of Fenian and Irish Republican Brotherhood member Jeremiah O’Donovan Rossa.
His dad was a conman extraordinaire. Great piece on both of them here – https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2002/02/18/in-ronnies-court
No doubt this is from where Le Carre got many of his ideas around deception, and probably explains why he was so emotionally close to his grandmother.
The upcoming BBC 4 documentary with Philippe Sands should be interesting

Gardai are launching an investigation into the Dublin senior GAA team having a training kick about ’cause it contravenes level 5 Covid regulations.
But the same Gardai are waving public transport buses through checkpoints with utter ratlicking scum onboard…junkies, dealers travelling to Dublin from Galway,Waterford,Sligo everyday to get their gear…similar travelling from Newbridge to Dublin on the 126…same on the 120 from Edenderry to Dublin…same on the 115 from Mullingar to Dublin…junkies and dealers travelling unhinderd on these buses…using other peoples social welfare free travel passes, stolen leap cards, lying about there age for cheaper travel…every excuse in the book to try to avoid paying….but arrive on a Garda checkpoint on route in or out of the city the thin blue line just waves the bus through, even after the driver raises concerns…’drive on,you’re grand’…..
But kick a ball around a field for an hour….FFS.

So let me get this straight – 600 people did not attend appointments at the Citywest Covid-19 vaccination centre on Wednesday because they had already been innocculated ?
So there isn’t a computerised system in place which would have automatically re-allocated those places to the next in line ?
And how many months has Slaphead had to get this organised ?
Still, bad as the Irish rollout has been it surely can’t be as terrible as that in France or Germany.
Can it ?
Ten fingers, ten toes… after that numbers get difficult
Charger Salmons
And one other question.
Can anyone give me a single good reason why Israel is in on Ireland’s quarantine list ?
I’d like to say it makes no sense but knowing this government’s record for buffoonery and ineptitude it actually makes perfect sense.

Happy Easter to all those who believe.
Here’s AE Housman’s Easter Hymn.
‘ If in that Syrian garden, ages slain,
You sleep, and know not you are dead in vain,
Nor even in dreams behold how dark and bright
Ascends in smoke and fire by day and night
The hate you died to quench and could but fan,
Sleep well and see no morning, son of man.
But if, the grave rent and the stone rolled by,
At the right hand of majesty on high
You sit, and sitting so remember yet
Your tears, your agony and bloody sweat,
Your cross and passion and the life you gave,
Bow hither out of heaven and see and save.’

What a record. Sneem received 300 doses of vaccine a few weeks ago, and is now set to inoculate all over 70s and vulnerable groups with their second dose of vaccine, making them fully vaccinated.
2016 Census – 288 residents of Sneem in total. 300 vaccines arrived back in February. That would suggest that 300 people are due their second shot, so why just the over 70s and vulnerable groups? So is the entire population of Sneem Over 70 or part of the vulnerable groups? Doesn’t sneem possible. https://www.thejournal.ie/sneem-vaccines-5394828-Apr2021/

i don’t think the message is getting through-this is all going to end,Ireland has significant exposure to Yellen’s taxation plans, which have widespread support.
