From yesterday but an interesting story nonetheless. In a twist befitting one of his spy novels, John Le Carre discovered that his maternal grandmother was from West Cork; of whom he said “I owe everything I am and everything I have to this woman”. She was born in 1876 near Rosscarbery, in the home place of Fenian and Irish Republican Brotherhood member Jeremiah O’Donovan Rossa.

I’ll take my heed from John Spillane on this one.

            “Johnny don’t go to Carrigaline
I’m not coming with you this time
You only go there to get let down
Johnny don’t go, Johnny don’t go
Johnny don’t go, stay in town…”

            That’s sound advice IMO.

Gardai are launching an investigation into the Dublin senior GAA team having a training kick about ’cause it contravenes level 5 Covid regulations.
But the same Gardai are waving public transport buses through checkpoints with utter ratlicking scum onboard…junkies, dealers travelling to Dublin from Galway,Waterford,Sligo everyday to get their gear…similar travelling from Newbridge to Dublin on the 126…same on the 120 from Edenderry to Dublin…same on the 115 from Mullingar to Dublin…junkies and dealers travelling unhinderd on these buses…using other peoples social welfare free travel passes, stolen leap cards, lying about there age for cheaper travel…every excuse in the book to try to avoid paying….but arrive on a Garda checkpoint on route in or out of the city the thin blue line just waves the bus through, even after the driver raises concerns…’drive on,you’re grand’…..

But kick a ball around a field for an hour….FFS.

What’s the difference between football training and training for a group dancing video?

So let me get this straight – 600 people did not attend appointments at the Citywest Covid-19 vaccination centre on Wednesday because they had already been innocculated ?
So there isn’t a computerised system in place which would have automatically re-allocated those places to the next in line ?
And how many months has Slaphead had to get this organised ?
Still, bad as the Irish rollout has been it surely can’t be as terrible as that in France or Germany.
    Can it ?

      And one other question.
Can anyone give me a single good reason why Israel is in on Ireland’s quarantine list ?
I’d like to say it makes no sense but knowing this government’s record for buffoonery and ineptitude it actually makes perfect sense.

Happy Easter to all those who believe.
    Here’s AE Housman’s Easter Hymn.

‘ If in that Syrian garden, ages slain,
You sleep, and know not you are dead in vain,
Nor even in dreams behold how dark and bright
Ascends in smoke and fire by day and night
The hate you died to quench and could but fan,
Sleep well and see no morning, son of man.

But if, the grave rent and the stone rolled by,
At the right hand of majesty on high
You sit, and sitting so remember yet
Your tears, your agony and bloody sweat,
Your cross and passion and the life you gave,
Bow hither out of heaven and see and save.’

The tory(institutionally racist, classist, elitist etc. scum) british government denies the existence of any institutional racism…

    Meanwhile…

A neo-nazi.. becomes the first british police officer to be convicted of terrorism…

    Haha.. lol… rofl… smh.. etc.
    – Who needs the funny’s when this is the accepted and prescribed version of reality.

      1. :-Joe

Ye, speaking of always at it but hardly a surprise worth mentioning..

The dead pig’s head-***er / lover extrordinaire, cameron himself, predictably staying true to the form and priorities of the tory scum party…

Only sixty-six +plus former colleagues taking advantage of their positions to further their bulging bank balances at the expense of all things democratic.

A new low or high point, who can / will tell anymore?

Nonsense! A probation officer monitored, investigated , dismissed and prosecuted out of a force of 44,000. I’d call that a good result.

      1. Charger Salmons

Of course you would Kate because you’re an intelligent person whose knuckles don’t drag on the floor when you walk and lips don’t mouth the words you type.
Try to make allowances for those on here who aren’t so lucky.
And have an enjoyable Easter weekend.

          LOL..

          bLOWHARD fishslap’s greatest moment….

I may be no better but trawl through the archives folks..
-Literally just go back one week for corroborating evidence of this persons relentless, ridiculous, nonsensical bluster …

Nevermind the casual xyz that I don’t want to waste my time mentioning again and again zzz…
Casual racism, classism, sexism etc etc zzzz….
-Ok I hinted a little but mostly I’m being restrained, extremely generous and I’m trying very hard to be kind.

Replying to, let alone arguing a point with windbag minnow-mind is literally the lowest intellectual point you can reach on broadsheet.ie

I for one, take no shame in having gone to those depths before so you don’t have to waste your valuable time.

Kate, If you think that is a counter argument all I can say politely to you is.. You’re daft and I hope you’re smiling at the very least.

Keep on keeping on, hopefully you’ll get to somewhere else, a sensible and more balanced place in the end.

Not part of any plan but what a way to start the day, eh?

          :-J

          1. :-Joe

Haha…. I’m laughing so much at what a picture both of you have created above I just had to add….

Stay classy, folks!.. Never change for any reason or anyone..

It’s priceless and I admire the love you both have for each other.. Truly wonderful.

            Have a great day !

            haha.. lol.. rofl… etc etc..

What a record. Sneem received 300 doses of vaccine a few weeks ago, and is now set to inoculate all over 70s and vulnerable groups with their second dose of vaccine, making them fully vaccinated.

2016 Census – 288 residents of Sneem in total. 300 vaccines arrived back in February. That would suggest that 300 people are due their second shot, so why just the over 70s and vulnerable groups? So is the entire population of Sneem Over 70 or part of the vulnerable groups? Doesn’t sneem possible.

    1. Cian

“288 residents of Sneem in total”
      and in that article:
“The Sneem Health Centre has around 240 patients aged 70 and over.”

At a guess the Sneem Health Centre looks after both the residents of Sneem itself and the surrounding area.

      No conspiracy.

So Easter Weekend eile in Lockdown

so what’s it going to be lads
I’m thinking a lemon old school High Tea cake
thats a cake that’s not exactly showstopper stuff but isn’t an everyday bake either – a special occasion sandwich cake, just two tiers, three if yere up to it
its creamy, cloudy light and its yellowy, so very Easterish

or something with enriched dough mebbe – create our own celebration bread, something the Paddys don’t really have in our bread tradition

    well?

      1. V aka Frilly Keane

        that’s an idea alright Johnny
issue for me is that I don’t like, so don’t cook/ bake with, candied peel or fruits

Lemme think about it, Jelly Tots might be an option

        anyone?

Did anyone else’s family stain the boiled eggs with teabags and then climb a hill so you could feck them down it till they cracked, dip them in a wee bag of salt and call that Easter ? There’d be a fairy bun too, puts me in the mood for the more grown up Victoria sponge.. fat chance of making it !

      1. Charger Salmons

Oh I say what a good idea.
Lady Charger and I normally open the bar around 4ish and that sounds marvellous.
Well,it is Good Friday after all.

Long Island Tea Brack sounds promising in fairness
        but not for long

        too much clashing alcohol bits
I can’t see vodka, gin, rum, tequila, triple sec plus lime and coke coming together in a sensible bake

do you know what would work – a Long Island Trifle

        1. Janet, chatty mammy

they don’t come together for a sensible drink, I had a few folks barred from drinking that beverage ;)

          1. Charger Salmons

In his rapey days Mike Tyson enjoyed a Long Island Iced Tea.
I love the one they make in the Savoy’s American bar.

i don’t think the message is getting through-this is all going to end,Ireland has significant exposure to Yellen’s taxation plans, which have widespread support.

    Ireland needs listen more.

“Twenty-six of the companies listed, including FedEx, Duke Energy and Nike, were able to avoid paying any federal income tax for the last three years even though they reported a combined income of $77 billion. Many also received millions of dollars in tax rebate”

O’Rouke is a liability,he’s a very big part the problem, how does he think this is helping ?

    great read.

“By 2013 the chaos caucus in the House had built up their own power base thanks to fawning right-wing media and outrage-driven fundraising cash. And now they had a new head lunatic leading the way, who wasn’t even a House member. There is nothing more dangerous than a reckless asshole who thinks he is smarter than everyone else. Ladies and gentlemen, meet Senator Ted Cruz.”
