Professor Pete Lunn of the ERSI, at a media briefing yesterday  at the Department of Health

Last night.

At a Department of Health covid briefing.

Professor Pete Lunn, from the ESRI behavioural research unit, said a “small minority” of people are showing more risky behaviour:

“What has happened here is there has been clear slippage in people following the restrictions and primarily it is not that they are rejecting them, it is not that they are saying they don’t believe in them anymore, it is that there is pushing of the boundaries.

“The primary pushing of the boundaries is social visits to other people’s houses and that we would see as being the biggest behaviour change that is risky.”

Meanwhile…

Dr Ronan Glynn [ Deputy Chief Medical Officer] said if people are mixing in the coming days, they should avoid doing this inside.

“Of course, we are aware that some households are going to do that and are doing that already but what we would say to people is: if you have made the decision to meet up with another household – while that is not our advice at the moment – if you’re going to do it, do it outdoors.”

Meet up in parks, meet up outdoors over the coming days.”

That selective quoting could be interpreted to suggest that we are free to meet up while, in fact, Dr Glynn urged people not to meet up over Easter but went on to say “Of course, we are aware that some households are going to do that and are doing that already but what we would say to people is: if you have made the decision to meet up with another household – while that is not our advice at the moment – if you’re going to do it, do it outdoors.”

We are free to meet up as we see fit and we don’t need Dr Glynn to tell us otherwise.

Free to go to a golf outing on the other side of the country.
Free to meet chums in the park for a tops off sunny encounter.
Free to have a farewell do for a colleague leaving reception.
Free to jump the vaccination queue because daddy knows the chairman of the board.
that’s the tip of he iceberg and we all know that!!

          We are free, aren’t we?

and before you say it…. yes I’M FREE (John Inman circa 1980)

We know now a full year into this that the elderly must be protected. People caring for the elderly must be responsible for who they come into contact with

So why hasn’t the messaging changed?

Why are all the healthy children & teenagers and healthy working adults being subjected to these unending lockdown nonsense measures?

    1. Micko

      Indeed Frank.

Even Luke O’Neill is talking about how the young are practically unaffected. Less than a 0.4% chance of death for those younger than 50.

He was on Newstalk this morning saying that it now looks like “long covid” isn’t really an issue and seems to be going away in the vast majority of cases.

We’ll still plow ahead with the “careful now” strategy though. Good ol Ireland

      1. frank

Micko! why are you listing to Newstalk??
You know you can go outside and listen to the birds singing

          1. frank

            God love you Micko.
I’d pull my hair out if I had to listen to Pat’s propaganda everyday

          2. Micko

I’ve actually done a little bit of work with Pat in the past.

He’s a pretty good journalist and interviewer (on radio only) and asks hard questions.

But he has lost his fupping mind with this Covid thing.

He has calmed down a little bit lately though – I wonder if he’s been jabbed ;)

Strange Micko, I was listening to the very same show…and O’Neil said nothing even close to that.
Now, I’m especially not a fan of his or Kennys but I’ve read enough of your ‘anecdotal’ crap in the past to know its bullshit…
O’Neil was relayed a question regards whether being vaccinated, or vaccinated following contracting Covid, had an effect on Long Covid or its symptoms.
His truncated answer, was that there wasn’t enough data available yet because of the time involved regards Long Covid symptoms but initial findings were favourable.
Maybe you could provide a transcript of where he said “long covid isn’t really an issue and seems to be going away in the vast majority of cases”…or, like all your other ‘friends, Aunties, daughter knows someone who’s a nurse etc’ stories…you’re just spouting sh!t to suit your point of view and feck the consequences…. as you again alluded to in another post today.

        BTW
Did you claim to work in an area of the Arts or Performance ?
Because if you do…you’re the most ignorant member of that fraternity I’ve come across, and I’m ashamed to think that you may be.
Stick to reading fiction not writing it.

I remember them delaying the very first lockdown because they understood that there was such a thing as ‘lockdown fatigue’ after a set number of weeks. Now after months of a lockdown and there seems to be shock and surprise when that phenomenon arises…

I know six people who’ve had this pox now. It’s the flu. It’s a nasty one but it’s the flu. People who end up in ICU are either very sensitive to it or have underlying issues. They’d be in ICU if they got the regular flu. 78% of US ICU patients are obese, for example. So what is all this really all about?

    1. Micko

      Jeez Eoin

You can’t say “it’s the flu”

      People will go banana

      Go banana big time :)

      1. lorcan

One of the Nphet members (can’t remember her name) said earlier in the week that 100% of people in ICU under the age of 60 had underlying conditions.

Keep your distance, wear a mask, wash your hands, and ignore all other advice

By the way…the ‘ESRI behavioural research unit’? Is that a branch of the Ministry of Propaganda?

    1. Micko

Are they like the Behavioural Insights Team in the UK?

Or the “Nudge Unit” as they are called.

Nudging people to act in a certain way…

  6. Optimus Grime

Do ESRI actually do anything bar state the obvious? – It took comprehensive research to find out “people are not adhering to regulations”
