Interesting stuff across the pond that the Republicans find themselves dealing with their very own pizzaGaetz scandal. Q woulda thunk?!
Easter Joker
Gaetz is just another distraction, another sacrificial lamb.
The GOP is much worse than they pretend to be. The stuff they do behind closed doors would make a Catholic priest blush.
If he was a member of Congress or the Senate, I’d be really impressed by that link….

Yeah, he just pays off the compromised idiot selected…

Slightly Bemused
My mother always called it Unholy Saturday. Her thinking was it was the one day of the year that Jesus was not here. He died on Friday, was raised on Sunday, but was not here on Saturday. For some reason I think there is a song rhyme in that.
Before we moved here, the local Jehovah’s Witnesses would regularly turn up at her door. They would argue book and verse for what seemed like hours. In later life, I was surprised how much I recalled. There were always two, and always the same one in charge, with a new acolyte, I think they call them.
But the funniest one was actually when my mother was unwell (no, that was not funny at all) but she was in hospital. So my Dad was off to look after us. And the doorbell rang, and as always, given the time, I sat halfway down the stairs to watch and listen.
The lead lady was disconcerted it was Dad, and asked for Mum. He was actually very polite in saying she was not available. He then asked her why she kept calling, as it was clear she would not be turned in her belief. I must give the lady credit. She may have blinked (Dad was in the way), but she gave a simple, one word answer:
“Practice”

On Holy Saturday Jesus was down below “Harrowing Hell.” Something I’d never heard about until recently, but a very ancient belief. Basically, Christ decends to hell to rescue all the good Old Testament people who had been unable to go to Heaven until He unlocked it for all of us. Now, I also think those Old Testament prophets weren’t in “hell hell” but, rather something called “Limbo of the Fathers”…the Jewish Sheol maybe.

Irish Athletic Boxing Association board member Andrew Duncan, an auctioneer and Fine Gael councillor for the Mullingar-Kinnegad area, has been accused of making a 140km round trip from his home in Westmeath to Laois for a boxing coaching event where around 30-40 people from across the country were training in a gym, including many involved in full-contact sparring indoors across three boxing rings, on March 13.
Mr Duncan said it was “in his capacity as an elected representative and (he was) entitled to be there”.
Standard FG arrogance on display. Clearly restrictions are only for the little people.

I’m still trying to work out Ireland’s latest quarantine policy, particularly the idea that the EU, USA and ‘ anywhere there’s lots of Irish people ‘ are exempt.
For instance you have to quarantine if you come from Wallis and Futuna – a French sovereign territory in the South Pacific with a population of 12,000, which has had 409 TOTAL covid cases and 4 deaths.
But you do not have to quarantine if you come from France where deaths are skyrocketing as the country enters its third wave.
Then there’s the Carribean Netherlands – population 25,000, with 196 total covid cases and 3 deaths.
But you don’t have to quarantine if you come from the actual Netherlands.
It’s almost as if this government is clueless about what it’s doing …

This is the €9 meals all over again. The government is trying to introduce a policy and also satisfy every lobbying group going. They don’t have the spine to stand their ground so the policies end up as a confusing, unworkable mess.
The switch to vaccination by age was because they can’t tell what people’s occupations are. If they said teachers were next they have no way of knowing if the person arriving for vaccination is a teacher, the school secretary, the caretaker or the sister of the woman that runs the local Montessori. The same is true if they give the go ahead for carers to go next. They can, however, check a birthdate on ID so that’s the easiest solution. They may explain it otherwise but that’s the reason for the change.
It’s just pandering to all the lobby groups and special interests that the State is built on
That’s why there is no one plan that they will all stick to
One for them – but it’s flexible
Another for this crowd – same as above
Something else for them over there, and as above

You know that rhyme “30 days hath September” which falls apart around the February rules? That’s a government policy after the February lobby group got to them.
Why even have a change at this stage ? The exact criteria for vaccines should have been established from the outset based on scientific data not lobby groups.
The outstanding UK vaccination programme has always been based on age after the initial cohort of the most vulnerable and frontline health workers were jabbed.
Police and teachers were considered no more at risk than any other profession.
Indeed early research found taxi drivers and restaurant managers among the occupations with the highest fatality rates.

“Among other changes, police can no longer arrest adults 21 and older for simply using marijuana in places where smoking tobacco is permitted—and that includes “on sidewalks, on front stoops and other public places,” the document states. “As a result, smoking marihuana in any of these locations is not a basis for an approach, stop, summons, arrest or search.”
