Yesterday.
In a video posted to Facebook Taoiseach Tanaiste leo Varadakar said the Government would introduce:
“Additional measures for the fully vaccinated, more freedoms for those who have been vaccinated.”
He added:
“We are developing a digital green certificate vaccine pass, so you’ll be able to prove that you’re fully vaccinated.”
Meanwhile…
There are huge difficulties with potential discrimination on the basis of vaccine, especially when severe shortages apply. Speculation by Tánaiste on social media is irresponsible. Vaccinated will be offered additional freedoms, says Varadkar https://t.co/s34UBxf4Kb
— Liam Herrick (@liamherrick) April 6, 2021
Additional freedoms for the fully vaccinated on the way, says Leo Varadkar (Irish Examiner)
I’m fully vaccinated but I think this is a monumentally stupid idea. Should at least wait until we start in on the jabs for the general population.
What’s the point of restricting the movement of people like yourself who have been fully vaccinated?
what is the difference between a vaccinated person and a healthy unvaccinated person?
One can catch and spread Covid the other can’t.
Oh really? I’ll donate a €100 right now to a charity of your choice if you can prove that a vaccinated person cannot catch or spread Covid. Hilarious. You do realise vaccinated people can not only contract the virus, but some may even go on to develop Covid19, right?
One can catch and spread Covid the other most likely won’t.
Is that better?
Most likely, eh? Sounds very sciency. So, both can contract and spread the virus then. Remind me again what the point of the certs is?
…would it not be fairer to register those who are antivaxxers…they seem very keen to identify themselves…and why penalise those who are least responsible for the failure of vaccine rollout by a government who have failed to tackle this pandemic or even take the advice of their own expert group…
We could make them wear some sort of badge.
…I’ve already suggested a bell…but ‘make them’ sounds like mandatory and the ratlickers seem to have appropriated that word…
Dumb idea and its going to inflame the issue further, get people vaccinated first
“At the present time, it is WHO’s position that national authorities and conveyance operators should not introduce requirements of proof of COVID-19 vaccination for international travel as a condition for departure or entry, given that there are still critical unknowns regarding the efficacy of vaccination in reducing transmission”
https://www.who.int/news-room/articles-detail/interim-position-paper-considerations-regarding-proof-of-covid-19-vaccination-for-international-travellers
Great idea.
The more people are encouraged to jab the better.
What’s the point in getting vaccinated if it doesn’t bring additional rewards other than not dying ?
In Blighty the politicians, especially those of the smelly left-wing variety, are beating themselves up over vaccine passports.
But polling shows the public are very enthusiastic about them.
I’m only weeks away from my second vaccine – I shall celebrate with a pint of frothing English ale in an open pub on the day.
And then dig out my spangly budgie-smugglers for that postponed beach holiday in the Med which I’m sure my eventual NHS App vaccine passport will enable.
Marvellous™
You might be celebrating with a blood clot.
How many weeks between first and second shot, it’s only 2 weeks her?
Did you quarantine for 2 weeks on return from your first shot?
Where will you quarantine after your 2nd shot if/when it happens?
12 weeks.
No.Negative test after 5 days.
Ireland.As above.
The number of people who’ve had both doses of a Covid-19 vaccine in the UK is
5,496,716.
That is 8.23% of the total population, the 4th highest total in Europe.
this is nothing about nothing, spinny mcspin
Varadker simply making more self-promoting noise by ape-ing what his Tory friends are up to over on ze mainland
(or maybe with the .ppt show he’s getting in a bit of practice for a senior management team slot at some mid ranking corporate, ah who knows/cares)
Hope you’re right.
I’m hoping that as soon as the over 60’s are done getting the jab and are safe, then people will just give the two fingers to the whole thing.
Our slow vaccine rollout could actually work in our (my) favour, as I can’t see young people staying in waiting for a vaccine once the older generation are protected.
my eldest lad and a rake of his social circle (20-23 y/o bracket) have bought themselves tickets to various music fests in England and Spain this summer and (according to them) they’re attending by hook or by crook and are 110% determined to succeed. they claim to have very detailed planes, trains and automobiles travel planning in play to avoid the potential restrictions, will be interesting to see how it all pans out.
according to him NONE of his peers are playing ball with the restrictions anymore, just sensibly (I think) playing the percentages
Great to hear and bloody good for them! :)
Hope they succeed.
Great to hear and hopefully peer pressur will encourage other young people to similarily ignore this nonsense. The young have sacrificed enough to not now be treated like second class citizens.
Apathy bred through Irish society by FFGLABGRN will sink this venture.
The irony of it makes me throw my head back with laughter.
Great plan , another level of safety from the danger of getting stuck next to Crazy Gemma in the boozer !!
…the best argument I’ve seen in favour of vaccination passports is that they seem to make ratlickers even angrier…if that’s possible…
Not angry bisted.
Just disappointed.
Lol, I’m happy with it because they have announced it so prematurely it is certain to inflame tensions and polarise. If the muppets had held back until June when more are vaccinated to introduce this, they would face very little push back but to start flying the kite now is a gift to us. I will use it to further disillusion people with the restrictions as a whole. I’ll also be encouraging people to just ignore the vaccine cert when introduced and we’ll focus attention on any business that is particularly zealous on it. The sunny weather at the weekend was another gift to us. Thousands out ignoring the restrictions and enjoying life. I actively encouraged hugging and the return of the handshake over the weekend. With every hug, handshake, beer in the sun with friends and general ignoring of the restrictions, we induce others to follow suit.
Lovely Matty
Here’s hoping!
But Joan, if the vaccine protects you, why would you mind sitting beside an unvaccinated person in the pub?
None of this really makes sense.
Again, only 50 under 45 have died with Covid in Ireland. 50 people in an entire year. *
It’s like the facts don’t matter anymore and people are just scared into obeying.
Very disappointing fellow humans.
I’m hoping that the age group on this site is higher than I originally thought and that this is the reason that people seem to be ok with the “get the jab or have your movement restricted.” policy.
China and Israel are not countries we should be emulating.

+1
Its very unnerving indeed.
“But Joan, if the vaccine protects you, why would you mind sitting beside an unvaccinated person in the pub?”
Not to speak for Joan, but I know that I personally care about the welfare of people other than myself from time to time. The more people are vaccinated, the more protection there is for people who, for whatever reason as Gavin’s link below describes, cannot take the vaccine.
Yeah. Can we stop with the “I care about other people’s welfare bit”
If the scandals of people jumping the queue over vulnerable people to get the jab over the last few weeks have taught us anything, it’s that people don’t give two craps about other people.
They care about themselves and their family.
Can it possibly be true that your worldview is not universally held?
The facts support my view
Just look at the Beacon, The Coombe and all the others that jumped the queue, the HSE not even knowing the occupation of a huge number of people who got the vaccine.
All jumping the queue, while poor Mildred (65) has been locked in her house for a year…
Only joking, I don’t care about Mildred either. But at least I’m honest ;)
Some people see the world as you do, and care only for the welfare of themselves and their families. Others don’t. But thank you for your honesty.
Ye know that phone in your hand has led to several deaths of young children all across parts of Africa.
https://amp.theguardian.com/global-development/2018/oct/12/phone-misery-children-congo-cobalt-mines-drc
I think what people really mean when they say “care for others” is that they care for others as long as they are not personally inconvenienced.
I care for the people I love and others I meet. I can’t do anything for anyone else.
So I don’t pretend to.
” I can’t do anything for anyone else.”
Sure you can. You just choose not to. Your choice!
EDIT Aw, your comment is gone. Taken too soon
I’m all for helping others you meet in your life.
But when helping others I don’t know, interferes with my kids life, ie lockdown restrictions. (She’s spent 20% of her life in lockdown at this stage)
Well then they can all go under the bus.
It is very useful to have this perspective laid out so explicitly.
“I personally care about the welfare of people other than myself from time to time” but only if it’s in respect of Covid. For all other illnessses, diseases and social issues, you couldn’t give a flying fig. People who cannot take the vaccine will still be at risk of contracting the virus from vaccinated people. Your anti science position doesn’t really hold up.
‘ “I personally care about the welfare of people other than myself from time to time” but only if it’s in respect of Covid. ‘
I actually do it in all sorts of ways. I’m sickeningly good.
It wouldn’t bother me at all, sitting beside some nut bar covid denier / antivaxer would.
Much like marathon runners and vegans they seems unable to keep that bit of their lives to themselves.
Vaccine passport contract will be awarded to roqu despite this:

They’ll have to find him first.
https://papess.com/ireland/a-fan-company-sold-high-specification-luxury-cars/
he has an ad on Linked in looking for a manager for this
Quirke himself was Vice President of Technology in IDA Ireland for about 18 months around 2006.
Might be interesting to do a deep dive on him.
*2016
Has he paid back the millions he got from the HSE for the bad PPE?
I’m sure Paul Reid has this in hand.
Vradkar ia now 100% irrelevant, resorting to soundbytes to try and keep his ego massaged.
Someone’s trying to kill me, blah blah.
That video was bordering on the faintly hilarious. The affected chirpy, upbeat tone, . Only fully vaccinated people from 2 different households to be allowed to meet up indoors? He’s speaking with all the authority of a wet lettuce. As if anyone’s going to take that seriously.
There will be outrage but if Big Brother Blighty does it first I can see it happening here. How long will the ‘pass’ digital or otherwise be valid, I’m guessing 6 months so you’ve then got a grey area where you’ve been vaccinated but are now awaiting your yearly refresh and go from green to red on the lurgy-o-meter. I expect this to cost us all a fortune and for it to be ballsed up massively, as per most govt projects.
Ah yeah but we will get to go to the pub, sure what more do you want…..civil liberties?
So the lifting of covid restrictions is an infringement on civil liberties?
No, the Covid restrictions in place for a disease with a 0.23% infection fatality rate are the actual infringement on civil liberties.
Even less than 0.23% for younger people.
It’s like facts don’t matter anymore.
https://www.who.int/bulletin/online_first/BLT.20.265892.pdf
That’s some contorted logic there Commenter #1
Maybe you should develop a grasp of what civil liberties are and how there are concerns around the loss of them for different sections of society, whose number one issue isn’t getting back to the pub.
https://www.iccl.ie/news/call-for-government-to-ban-vaccine-passports-within-ireland/
There is a difference between the lifting of covid restrictions and vaccine passports, right?
“There is a difference between the lifting of covid restrictions and vaccine passports, right?” First, you need to be clear on whether you mean vaccine certs or vaccine passports. They are two very different things. Ignoring that, introducing a vaccine cert and providing extra rights and freedoms to those with it in respect of what services they can avail of or venues they can attend is a clear imposition on people’s rights and freedoms, and the opposite of lifting Covid restrictions. There is no logic behind it either. What exactly does the vaccine cert do except act as a reward and punishment system for obedient citizens, kind of like China’s social credit score system?
When ye all get a chance
can someone tell me the different between a Passport, Drivers Licence, Bus Pass, Government Services Card etc
and a Vax Cert
Ta,
Wow what a really silly question at this stage. If you really don’t know or understand the basic differences here then there’s no hope for you.
so tell me the basic differences so
I know you’re dying ta
so go on
Not having a Passport, Drivers Licence, Bus Pass, Government Services Card doesn’t stop you from going to the cinema with your kid.
Simples…
thank you Micko
Not having a Passport stops you travelling outside of Ireland/UK.
Not having a Drivers Licence stops you driving on public roads.
Not having a Bus Pass means you have to pay to use a bus.
Not having a Government Services Card stops you getting certain government services.
Not having money stops you from going to the cinema with your kid.
Trying to go to an over 18s movie stops you from going to the cinema with your kid.
Wow. We live in such a nanny state.
One gives you authority to bake cakes
The others for example give you the right to swing your big Micky
kittens for you I’d say
It’s an invasive health status pass…
Should I be entitled to know the health profile of the chef or food server in the restaurant that requires one of me?
From the WHO website…
The hepatitis A virus is transmitted primarily by the faecal-oral route; that is when an uninfected person ingests food or water that has been contaminated with the faeces of an infected person. In families, this may happen though dirty hands when an infected person prepares food for family members…
Where does it end?
It’s amazing how those lawless fat cats in Lenister house prove the Conspiracy Theorists correct every time.
It’s equally amazing how they will abandon the law and the constitution they alegedly serve and uphold, in order to facilitate the needs of the pHARMa industry.
If the “vaccines” worked then there is no reason to criminally limit the lives of those without the vaccines.
I love this idea
Can it be applied to stop travellers illegally camping at roundabouts?
I’ve always wanted to live at a roundabout myself and now with a COVID vaccination I can realise my lifelong dream
Take that county councillors!
Hey savagemon and co
What do you propose we do about the floodgates of UK immigrants to Ireland as highlighted here

Vaccinated ‘will be offered freedoms’? What a plonker! Mr Irrelevant. The Boy Varadkar’s day is done.
Unfortunately not
The Blue shirts have never had this much space between themselves and Fianna Fail
and its easier for them to campaign against Sinn Fein
I can’t see anyone taking Leo out
not this side of a GE anyway
The GE definately. Hopefully he’ll stay in situ for a while and take more of the ‘shirts down with him
down with him
hardly
Leo is going to win seats
His form would suggest otherwise. The losses in the last election. He is a liability.
They’re at 30% FFS
Neck n’neck with the Shinners
eFFers are doing well to cling to double digits at all
Leo has brought them back to life
Forget the last GE
Shur’ look at the locals and the Euros less than a year earlier in May 19 – Green Surge, Fianna Fail & FG Gains, SF & PbP losses
everything upended by the following Feb
I place no trust in polls. Coming up to the last election, FG (we were led to believe) were far out in the lead, while SF were in the teens. The real poll told the truth. So, no, polls mean sfa.
