Great segment with MD on that link
Absolute legend. RIP.
RIP – He achieved a lot in a number of different areas. Winning the Eurovision in 1980 is one of the fondest memories of that time in Ireland.
RIP. Loved Nighthawks cos it gave us Blaithin and Kevin McAleer… and ended Haughey’s political career.

The format was great. Not over-produced, it was unpretentious, unscripted, and a bit rebellious.
Such a popular and nice man, RIP.

re… the kinsealy kleptocratic kahuna…
well said Daisy, Shay was just so natural and brought out the best in people.
Rest easy Shay with your beloved Dymphna, you inspired many and no doubt are holding court as we speak above the clouds.
Condolences to family and close friends
RIP Shay, genuinely sorry to hear about this.
Shay Healy had such a long and varied career that he means different things to different people. For me he will always be Hay Healy from Nighthawks; probably RTÉ’s best show.
Ah God, that’s sad news.
What’s another year..?
Very sad to hear this. That’s a squier.

Rock on Shay, rock on.
The man is a total legend. Mary Coughlan had a wonderful tribute this morning how he launched her career after she sent him two tapes in the early 80s. She wrote of a lovely memory of going to see Billy Connolly with Shay and Conolly joked he caught Parkinsons off Shay Healy, such was the depth of warmth that they had. I was only just beginning to understand Nighthawks when it started as I was a teenager but began to understand his edgy satire he did with Kevin Mc Aleer. Eurovision though was especially what I will remember him for and how he crafted a song that stood the years in Whats Another Year. Was sad to hear the news.
A nice man and a pleasure to work with. May he rest in peace.
Lovely chap, he’d always say hello and take in an interest in you no matter what rung of the ladder you were on, a true gent.
