Robert, fuPP off. What was so important to you that you needed to leave the country and put others at risk… You knew you were coming back to quarantine… If you need smokes that badly, you should have prepared yourself…
‘Put others at risk’ ????
Heard of Northern Ireland? Are you up there putting up the fence? Catch a grip. Less than 1% of cases originate via incoming travel and there you are swallowing the line of the Govt. Think we should be closed down till when?
I have to agree…
@Des., trust the science…and Trustee the citizens… A simple case of Sammy knows best.. , he just doesn’t know who John Ioannidis is… Maybe he could do with a, get away.
Ive little sympathy for him
Welcome to Ireland 2021 where the citizens are treated like criminals.
any context around this Broadsheet?
is it just a random lad who is in general disagreement with the quarantine policy and having his moan?
or has he a specific reason to be wee weed off? (already arrived pre-wormed and chipped etc.)
am I missing something here?
The unIrish nature of it all.
What’s unIrish about it?
Obeying laws or guidelines for the greater good instead of the auld nod and a wink and I’ll do me own thing and it’ll be grand sure, that ‘unIrish’ thing?
Although it is indeed VERY Irish to whine and moan and blame everyone else for something you knew full well was about to happen, we love an auld moan, I’m even moaning about moaners, so very Irish!
Thats the point – there is no ‘greater good’ here – thats an illusion.
Its the Govt constant shambles presenting itself in a different context.
If you need to ask, you wouldn’t understand the answer.
Was it Murakami who wrote “if you don’t understand it without an explanation then you wouldn’t understand it with an explanation?”
Ha ! One of the most conformist countries in western Europe.
Are you trying to imply that there’s some country in Europe more conformist than Ireland? How very dare you!
Personally, I think you’re missing everything, TBH but if you can actually stand beside the sewer pipe that is pumping out the unscientific bilge of lies & half-truths that is the government’s “stance” on this, without gagging, you’ve a strong stomach but may be lacking as regards the functionality of some of your other organs, like.
”treating me like an effin’ eejit” maybe that’s because you’ve been spouting off about feeling like a ”prisoner of war” and god knows what other guff off camera.
A sap forced to comply with the quarantine rules that he was fully aware of before travelling. Good.
Indeed.
You might not agree with the rules but ignorance of them is no defence in law.
Could he not just smoke in the room?
It’s not like they’re gonna throw him out.
In fact if you prepared well, you could spend the 10 days off your face ;)
+ 1
Fear and Loathing in Quarantine… sounds like a plan
“As your attorney, I advise you to take a hit from the little brown bottle in my shaving kit”
OR JUST PACK BOOZE AND SMOKES ROBERT!
You literally just came through Duty Free FFS!
I mean, I think mandatory quarantine is stupid – but he paid the money for it and knew it was coming.
No point in complaining about it now.
Fail to prepare – prepare to fail.
The whole world is in the wardrobe, doing a poo. Obviously, they THINK it’s a toilet but no drug known to man could match the insane reality we find ourselves forced into.
LOL! :)
If he doesn’t have covid then there’s no logical reason for this.
Exactly.
One lady came back to Belgium after a skiing holiday; had a negative test result, but was supposed to quarantine until she had a second negative test result to confirm she was in the clear. In the meantime, she ignores the quarantine, drops her kids go to school, etc.
It turns out, she had Covid.
It turns out, she gave Covid to her daughter, and the daughter attended school when infected
So, the entire town of 5,000 people had to go into quaruntine because one person did not bother to follow the rules.
https://netherlandsnewslive.com/one-woman-breaks-the-rules-5000-people-in-quarantine-the-huge-consequences-of-an-innocent-ski-trip/65822/
Conclusion: people cannot be trusted to follow the rules after travelling; while most people will, the few willy-woos ruin it for everyone, so now everyone has to be quarantined to ensure that the willy-woos don’t go around spreading the virus
It’s a good thing then that covid’s nowhere near as deadly as we first thought back in March 2020.
It’s just silly to quarantine 5,000 people when 99.85% of them will survive with no problems at all.
So that 0.15%, 8 people have to suffer needlessly because of 1 person’s selfishness?
@paddy Apathy
What about the gazillion aysymptomatics you will meet in your daily goings on? Why are they not in hotels locked up?
By your logic: ‘So that 0.15%, 8 people have to suffer needlessly because of 1 person’s selfishness?’ – why should the rest of us have to suffer because of your desire to stamp out every case of Covid? My kids go to school every day – they could bring it home to our house, some kids do – should they be not going to school? How much infringement of rights do you want? Total?
What’s the alternative? Let the virus rip, wait for herd immunity? The discussion is about people travelling abroad during a global pandemic. The fight against the virus has many fronts from vaccination, to lockdown, hygiene and stopping people at the borders where we can. What about N Ireland? They’re being vaccinated quick smart, ask Charger for the figures if you want. And yeah, I’m willing to curtail my working and social life by staying home during lockdown, not meeting family or friends and not meeting gazillions of asymptomatics. Good night.
No, Rob, the town of 5,000 was put into Lockdown because the Dutch government need to keep up the pretence that there’s a Killer Cold on the loose, no other reason. The idea that an asymptomatic person could infect another person, never mind 5,000 is utter nonsense. It takes a virus a maximum of about 16 hours to show symptoms & unless this person was coughing or sneezing, which qualifies as symptoms, the possibility of them infecting anyone is too insignificant to be considered. It’s a Public Health Circus rather than a Public Health Crisis.
You’re talking rubbish.
“During this pandemic, we have seen that people without symptoms can spread the coronavirus infection to others. A person with COVID-19 may be contagious 48 hours before starting to experience symptoms.”

Rubbish.

Prisoner of War??? Ah here, he needs to get a grip … sap.
In fairness
If I was going to be interned
there’s worse places
I’d nearly go off there now tonight
get all me bits done
back by Saturday
and have a fortnight watching telly, + roomservice
In the Hard Rock or the Red Cow
Happy out
Is the bar open? Or can you bring a big bag of cans?
Shur O’Brien’s deliver for free
ok you’ll have to spend a ton
but shur’ you’ll do that handy enough
tenner a day like
No bar according to the clip :)
V
whilst it’ll never be a problem for me
if I was being interned I could think of MUCH better places to be
if I had to shovel out nearly two large of my own hard earned cash after tax?
I can tell you the gaff I’d be selecting for my little quarantine holiday
would be FAR better than a 3* with chicken + chips thrown in
that’s some cool profit being made there, lol
https://www.quarantinehotelsireland.ie/terms-and-conditions
Frilly, you are interned, yet somehow you reckon you’d be better off if the terms of your internment were just a wee bit stricter? You’ve got the old Irish love for a belt of the crozier well internalised. Christian brothers? I went to De La Salle, more interested in Education than Religion, so they never infected me with the desire to comply, just made sure I passed all my exams.
That guy simply doesn’t realise that thousands of people in Ireland are hospitalised with Covid-19, right now, does he? He’s acting like there’s maybe 192 people in our hospitals “suffering from Covid-19”, taking up 1.6% of our hospital capacity & overwhelming our frontline workers on the frontline. This pandemic is easily at the level of Appendicitis or Laryngitis or similar Deadly Medical Emergencies. OMG!!!
The quarantine itself and the price is supposed to be a deterrent to eejits like this lad.
It’s not a publicity stunt then? You reckon it will have a beneficial effect on reducing the numbers of infected people below the current 192?
What’s the betting he’s one of the anti maskers who attack shop assistants whinging that they can’t wear a mask for “medical reasons”? Can’t wear a mask, but can suck on 20 smokes a day.
It’s so hard to be addicted to cigarettes, and realize that you’re prevented from getting the hourly fix! Either give them up cold turkey 3 – 4 days physical withdrawals, lemons to lemonade or, dismantle the fire alarm and get some strong smelling after-shave – BRUT
Keep all receipts and documentation as you might have a case in the future for what you are being forced to endure.
Looks like yer man’s wearing a retro Spurs jersey. No sympathy for barstoolers, lock him up, throw away the key etc
