She had cancer and still smoked on-screen.

Unless that was a camera trick.

      RIP.

      Good actress.

That comment was directed at Daisy’s use of the word ‘sinewy’ not a comment about the deceased.

    Charger’s Jab Jibber-Jabber™

Blighty’s supersonic soaraway vaccine programme and the long lockdown is finally reaping big rewards.
The UK now has the lowest Covid rate in the G7:
    Cases per million
    France: 521
    Italy: 257
    Germany: 245
    Canada: 231
    USA: 213
    Japan: 29
    UK: 23

Poor old Napoleon is in a bit of a bind.

Ah, the geopolitical masterminds at the Mail have pipped up….

It’s pretty much the Black Knight in Monty Python and the Holy Grail…

Or laughing at somebody for wiping their behind with quilted toilet roll while you’re using a rusty spoon…

Off all the things you’ve ever said here… that is gold-plated dumb.

          1. Papi

Charger really doesn’t get that he is, in fact, the entire population of chumps corner.
            Poor charger.

    1. Pat

I for one am glad the UK is doing great with the vaccine rollout. I love the Brits and have no wish to see any more of them die. But in all fairness Charger, all your jibber jabber posts have to be seen in the context of the UK’s horrifying legacy of 127,000 deaths after a year of Boris and the Tory’s cack handed mismanagement and clueless, confused policy during the first year of the pandemic. The UK has the fifth highest COVID death rate in the world. It’s great that Boris took a punt and it paid off. but that’s all it was – a lucky punt by a desperate leader who’d made an utter pig’s mickey of things up to then.

      1. Charger Salmons

Actually, excess mortality is a more comprehensive measure of the total impact of the pandemic on deaths than the confirmed COVID-19 death count alone.
It captures not only the confirmed deaths, but also COVID-19 deaths that were not correctly diagnosed and reported as well as deaths from other causes that are attributable to the overall crisis conditions.
The UK lies around mid-table in the list of 50 or so major countries which keep these statistics.Ireland is not one of them.
And one of the reasons the virus was able to take a hold and spread so quickly was because of geography and the fact the UK – and London in particular – is a global hub.
Density of population is also a factor. The UK is among the 10 most densely populated big nations and its cities are more inter-connected than they are in many places which is why the virus took hold so rapidly.
Some mistakes were made – like here there was no lockdown at Christmas and like here more than a third of fatalities have happened since then mainly because of the Kent variant.
But funnily enough I don’t recall many people on BS demanding Ireland be in total lockdown for the festive period and a ban on anyone coming home for the celebrations.
Perhaps you’ve forgotten that in January Ireland had the worst infection rate per head of population in the world.
All these factors combined are reasons why in opinion polls the British public do not blame the government for the pandemic outcome.
        https://yougov.co.uk/topics/politics/survey-results/daily/2020/10/12/9fc6f/2?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=daily_questions&utm_campaign=question_1
That was from last year but I would imagine a similar result now.
A YouGov poll this week gave the Tories a 14 point lead over Labour – the 50th consecutive poll where they’ve trumped the opposition.
Of course the UK has also lead Europe in its vaccine roll-out since the start of the year, it has a roadmap for re-opening and this week the pubs are back open.
So overall it wasn’t a ” lucky punt ” by Boris which sees Blighty in such a good place – but careful planning, some of the best scientific brains in the world, a lot of money and the excellent decision by the UK to follow its own vaccine path and not the disastrous and incompetent EU model.
Four months ago it opted for a heavily-cricised policy of a 12 week gap between jabs.
41 million vaccines later and with herd immunity fast approaching it has been a stunning success.
Ireland is still only ” looking at ” the data and the country is facing growing unrest at the cack-handed way the government is handling things.
As the UK economy is set for a turbo-charged bounce back I’d say all in all Boris and Blighty have every reason to feel pretty pleased with themselves right now don’t you think ?

        1. ce

Nobody in Europe, North America, South America has anything reason to feel pleased – an utterly shambolic year for all. You’re utterly deluded if you think otherwise.

          1. Charger Salmons

None of the continents you mentioned have had any experience of a Sars epidemic.
Countries were simply not prepared for it like they were in Asia where these viruses are far more common.
Unlike China many countries in those continents are democracies where enforcing military law and treating citizens as prisoners isn’t quite so easy.
On the other hand the West has responded magnificently with vaccines – creating, testing then rolling out hundreds of millions within less than a year has been a remarkable achievement.
A mixed bag of a year but lots to be enthusiastic about for the coming months.
            Marvellous™

          2. ce

Yes, which shows how dumb we were to not follow their lead – and the propensity towards having a total disregard (or dismantlement of) to public services destroyed most of the ‘liberal’ worlds ability to do what was needed to be done.

Thus, we’ll live with the consequence for the next decade. While John and David brought up very important issues this morning – these and all the BS comments section arguments are I’m afraid all moot.

There is nothing to celebrate, no backs to be slapped, only money to be made by individuals and companies who will exploit the situation – The Chavocracy will love this

          3. Charger Salmons

You might not be celebrating old cock but lots of Brits and many thousands of Paddies who live on the mainland were last night.
Beer gardens and outside hospitality have been booked up for weeks – I’ve had pals messaging me this morning delighted to be suffering their first decent hangover in ages.
I know you chaps have a while longer to wait but it’s important to keep a stiff upper lip and show a can-do positivity as I’ve tried to impart on here over the last year when all your spirits were flagging and you were in that dark place of the slough of despond.
You’ll be able to see the sunlt uplands soon, albeit it with a very powerful telescope.

            Mwahaha™

          4. ce

It all reminds me of the scene in the Oswald Mosley bio pic from about 20-25 years ago, and the armistice day celebration scene. In the script it says something along the lines of “‘Why are you not celebrating Oswald’, ‘Well, one of my legs is, thanks to this war, a lot short than the other, all of my friends have been killed, and the idiots who lead us into the war are still in charge.'”

      Charger’s Vax Fact™ update

Britain’s daily Covid cases fall by almost 20% in a week with 2,596 positive tests.
Only 34 deaths were announced yesterday, down 43% on last Friday’s figures.
Hospital admissions dropped by nearly 15% to 204
Another 129,782 first doses were delivered yesterday, taking the UK’s total number of vaccinated adults to 32.5million.
Some 417,683 were also given second dose, with the number fully vaccinated now at 8.9million.

      Take a bow Boris.

I’m a big fan of Aldi.
        Especially their gin.
        And Maris Piper oven chips.
        And charcuterie.
        Great cheese selection.
And the freshest fruit and vegetables of all the supermarket chains.
        And their tea bags.
        I love their tea bags.
They know their stuff the Germans.

It’s also a little-known fact they grow rosemary as a decorative plant in many of their car parks.
I’ve enjoyed gratis car park rosemary on my leg of lamb many a time.
Lady Charger doesn’t miss a trick.

In serious, yeah the veg is surprisingly fresh compared to all other Irish and British Supermarkets, to their shame

I’m off out for the day to pick up some very nice spices from our local middle eastern store and some other fresh bits and pieces from the market… first time since November… buy local and no chain stores, when you can – certainly not always possible for those with young families etc!…

Aldi missed a golden egg opportunity in fairness…

Should have named theirs.., Greta The Grub…

            Any ideas yourself?

  3. GiggidyGoo

The Covid kite-flying is still in full swing. Michilín ‘phone call from europe’ Martin announcing hundreds of thousands of vaccines for Ireland, Donnelly and his under 30’s plan.
Then we get Reid with his ‘Not until after June’.
Then the extending of the gap between jabs.
    The Quarant Inn debacle.
    The High Court

    Keystone Kops.

Any of the RTE people charged after the retirement do?
Any word on Hayes’ guests at the Golf do?

especially since he discovered that unfeasibly large-breasted specialist website – he likes that sort of thing – a bit too much some might say – but I say let him tear away at it

      1. Bitnboxy

Haha! From anyone else GiggidyPox! Your second home is trolling the BS comment section Shinnerbotting par excellence (but in that old style crozier and armalite way) after a night freezing your bits off – “logistics” you call it – and now bitter that entitled so and sos can waltz off and enjoy the Saturday sunshine. Boxy being one of those, is just about to do that.

Sorry, I won’t read your delightful reply but rest assured Boxy is always watching…

        Guffaw!

He’s going to move to the strawberries and spuds shift now in the next few weeks. Watch as the posts get even more hysterical and windy, especially on rainy days.

Ha haaa. Beetlejuice x 3. I own you. BitterBoxy using a thread that was wishing another poster the best, to release his pent-up problems and use the thread only to attack posters. Have you even wished her the best even yet?

      2. Charlie

I’m just back from a lovely day out. How was your whingy day at the computer moaning about everything political? I’m sick givin you good advice…get out and walk and banish that unhappiness.

What he actually said is that everyone thinks they have the prettiest wife at home. I know it’s difficult for you as an Englishman to remember how to speak your native tongue but leave it to an erudite Frenchman to teach you.

Erudite enough to know the poster you address as lad is actually a woman.

        Heh x doh !

  5. The Dude

To hell with this idea to vaccinate the least vulnerable ahead of others.

Where else on earth is this occurring?

The citizens have had endless patience in the face of the most useless, bad, costly government that has repeatedly failed to develop protocols that could reduce risk. The reward is persecution of the innocents.

Civil liberties and businesses are being sacrificed to cover for maladministration and gross incompetence by the state’s rulers, with the country’s national debt again among the highest in the EU per capita.

KBC are getting out of Ireland because they know the country is now a basket case with little prospects.

Today ‘s news is the last straw.

Another novel clumsy idea not thought through which is to be applied to the huge cohort of the citizens.

It is sooo bad, it is actually quite funny.

To skip ahead a smaller less vulnerable section of the population over a larger cohort more likely to vote.

So a logical conclusion is that Donnelly may still secretly be the Social Democrats best weapon, as what remains of FF are nose-diving in the opinion polls. I look forward to that corpse finally being buried.

Yet the problem is that FF are now taking this country with them in the decline. Just like a decade ago.

We are living under an incompetent out-of-control tyranny. Today’s headlines are just the latest evidence.

      1. The Dude

Alas it is not looking too good for Britain either, where current glow of the swift rollout of vaccine will quickly fade as the true costs of Brexit and its strategic disadvantages become apparent.

We only followed the Brits in terms of Covid – apart from getting the vaccine as quickly rolled out.

At least Ireland’s dystopian days should pass.

        1. Charger Salmons

          Ya reckon ?
As the vaccine roll-out has amply demonstrated the world’s 5th largest economy is more than capable of flourishing outside the stifling grip of the EU which has overseen the slowest growth of any continent on the planet in recent years.
Business leader are massively confident about the future and the effects of Brexit barely figure in their concerns now.
Once the UK economy opens up fully I expect a tsunami of inward investment in the country’s burgeoning tech sector.
The UK’s £2Trillion economy will cope just fine.
Ireland, I’m not so sure. The loss of the country’s low corporate tax rate which will happen fairly soon will deal a serious blow to the economy.
Anyone who thinks the multi-nationals are here because they like Guinness and rain are in for a shock.

    1. Cú Chulainn

+1,000… what Donnelly is trying to do is capture the SF youth vote.. however, the vast majority of the younger population would prefer to see their parents vaccinated.. they see through it.. meanwhile, the most incompetent government (since the last one – which also had Eamonn Ryan) is preparing the way for a SF majority…

      1. V AKA Frilly Keane

        Definitely Voter motivated

The biggest Voting demographic – which is promising to split Shinners / Blueshurts anyway
Is also the loudest and most vocal on the canvass and doorsteps
        Is the 30 to 60

    2. Charger Salmons

It’s certainly about time politicians in this country wrestle back control from the unelected scientists on NPHET who appear to be running the whole kit and caboodle.
Or at least some of those timid hacks discovering some mettle and finally start demanding proper answers.
Like this Ohio congressman getting stuck into Dr Fauci who was blustering away at not answer questions.

I enjoyed Tomorrow Tonight. Agree with John, the unvaccinated likely to become the Untouchables although I hope it won’t come to that. Agree also with David that multi-tasking is the enemy of excellence. Disappointed Helen McCrory didn’t get a mention.

  7. Donald McCarthy

Is it just me or does the heron doing what herons do point to our ugly voyeuristic exceptionalism? We just can’t help it, seeing nature as an amusing backdrop for our special needs. Thankfully, we will all soon be the little duckling, swanning off forever into the necessary void. Sadly, there will be no-one to point and gawp and laugh so excuse me if I do it now.

Lots of people on here think the Royal Family is an anachronism.
    I’m one of them.
But they are still very popular all over the world.
Phil the Greek’s funeral is currently being shown live on America’s three biggest news channels — MSNBC, Fox and CNN.
Channels 7, 9 and the ABC likewise in Australia.
All 3 French news channels + F2 state channel & TF1 (both main channels) and Germany’s DW news channels also carrying it live.
In Italy state-owned Rai and two private channels – Mediaset and La7 have it on.
Remember, Twitter is not real life.

      1. Charlie

His point is that there’s morons all over the world, Aul wans, cross dressers and dopey Yanks lap up that regal soap show. It’s entertainment and grand gossip.

        1. V AKA Frilly Keane

          It’s free content

it’s easy when the plebs pay for it – and this one, by circumstances/timing, was at a discount
