Nice to see that the good people at the Telegraph do not understand what the word pandemic means… Marvellous…

  2. Charger Salmons

Whose expertise to trust on the pandemic?
Sarah Walker, Professor of Medical Statistics and Epidemiology at Oxford University.
Or some dunderhead off the internet.
    Decisions, decisions …

    1. GiggidyGoo

      Published before peer review.
By a professor at Oxford university ( which has its own interest in the game, as in Oxford Astra Zeneca)
Lauded by a dunderhead on Broadsheet.
Sure what’s there to think about?

      1. Charger Salmons

Whose expertise to trust on the pandemic?
Sarah Walker, Professor of Medical Statistics and Epidemiology at Oxford University based on tests among 373,402 people.
And Tim Spector, Professor of Genetic Epidemiology at King’s College London.
Or a ” logistics expert ” in a hi-viz vest directing lorry drivers to the canteen at Dublin Port ?
        Decisions, decisions …

        1. millie bobby brownie

Funny but I don’t think anyone is paying attention to either of you two gobpoos, so the point is moot isn’t it?

          1. millie bobby brownie

Yes it was the lack of attention and definitely not my daughter having an incurable illness that led me to take a break. But thanks for the concern.

Nice to see you still have your dazzling sense of humour and sparkling personality.

          2. goldenbrown

            giggidygoo
the lack of posts thereof is far more likely to be that the comment section is very often dominated with saddo toxic he-said-she-saids over things which rarely have any useful insight into any issues of the day or of any consequence whatsoever, filled with misinformation, megaphoning, platforming, whatever you’re having yourself…..certainly very little in the line of kindness, thought, helpful or smart insights. you know I had a look recently at The Journal and honestly there are times the discussions here make theirs look intelligent and almost engaging.

have a look at the number of comments being posted daily, hm? I’ve only been here around about a year but I can see that there used to be loads, regularly in the hundreds now it’s in the tens. people voting with their feet. I’m too late to the party possibly but I pick up on hints now and again that this gaff used to be something great but now it’s a sad shadow of some former self and just not a nice place sometimes.

Millie, terribly sorry to hear that btw. I hope you and your young one are keeping well.

          3. GiggidyGoo

Milly – I’m sorry to hear that. If I had known I wouldn’t have been as cranky in my reply. Please accept my apologies.

Just to clarify something about various pre-conceived notions that many have here about me questioning the news we are being fed. I’ve always questioned press releases and studies etc. that are questionable. I get accused of being anti-vax etc. etc.

Well just to clarify – I lost a brother to Covid back in February this year. Yes, it was Covid 100%, no underlying issues. I didn’t get to see him, as it was out foreign. He couldn’t speak, lying in hospital is the state of impending death. And no family around him. Last time I saw him was 4 years ago.

I’m pro safe vaccinations – why wouldn’t I be? I am however not pro vaccinations that have come under the spotlight like AZ as we are being drip-fed information by all sides on it. If a complete country can ban AZ’s use, then that’s good enough for me. There has to be science behind a decision like that.

          4. Bitnboxy

Glad to see this fine (and rare) example of empathy, kindness and maturity on BS. Some things now make sense…Giggidy.

        2. GiggidyGoo

Decisions decisions alright. I’ve never said I have expertise in the pandemic. I’ve as much as you have as it happens. That doesn’t stop me from questioning publications that are released without peer review to bolster some trust in a product developed by…..the publishers.

Maybe we should, though, listen to yourself, whose qualifications to write about anything is summed up by posts such as https://www.peoplesrepublicofcork.com/forums/showthread.php?t=209757
(You do know that you’re the 1st hit on Google for the term Charger Salmons?)

ps – I thought I was on your ignore list.

        3. millie bobby brownie

Thanks all for the kind wishes everyone. It really is lovely and very much appreciated.

Giggidy, I am so sorry about your brother. I can’t imagine losing a sibling. Awful.

My initial comment was intended as tongue in cheek but upon reread, it comes off as harsh – so my apologies to both you and Charger too for any offense given.

          1. GiggidyGoo

Thanks Millie. The cut and thrust of this place can mean spontaneous reactions. I need to take stock to be honest. I’m sure some more here would need to too. The ones who left have done so.
I’m so sorry about what you’re going through.

          2. Charger Salmons

            Take stock of what ?
It’s an internet forum not real life.
If the heat is too much in the kitchen step away.

        4. GiggidyGoo

Thanks for all your sentiments. I suppose we all have problems that affect us that are meant to be secret until someone lashes out (like me to Milly).

So, I’ll bid the site a (very) short goodbye, and see if I can come back in a better vein and attitude towards other posters.

      2. V aka Frilly Keane

        Before you take
“By a professor at Oxford university ( which has its own interest in the game, as in Oxford Astra Zeneca”)
        any further Gittie

the Oxford lab/ research hub gave it away for free
on condition it was made available for free to Developing Countries
and the promise it would be at cost to everyone else for a fixed period
Which is why they ended up with AZ
        and not Merck btw

if you’re now going to be plastering the gaff with MadVax material, then don’t be wrong about the corporate and commercial facts, particularly when you are throwing shade over the integrity of the Scientists and Researchers that gave it up, with very strict conditions attached to its distribution

be as stupid and flaky about theories, science, t’internet whatnots and youtube acts as you like, but dragging the people that put the science into the Oxford AZ vaccine along into your Mad Vax Dunderhead Drome ffs

        1. GiggidyGoo

FFS is right. I’m just glad that I question things like publications that are ‘not peer reviewed’ and published by the developers of the vaccine. Unlike virtue signalers who run with the Pied Pipers and accept anything they’re told. Now, that’s stupidity.
There have been many scientists quoted here that you and your like delight in throwing ‘shade’ over. You’re into the realm of ‘My scientist is better than yours’ now.
Putting words in bold does nothing to enhance your argument.

          1. V aka Frilly Keane

Ah here, again throwing up false assertions and associations about me
and once again Broadsheet are hosting it,
like a support group, a sponsor even

Show me one post where There have been many scientists quoted here that you and your like delight in throwing ‘shade’ over.

would actually be correct, and honest

            go on

for everyone else – if ye have any stomach left
I have made a point of not adding to commentary on the Science of the Virus, the Lockdowns, the restrictions and the Vaccines, any of it
            everywhere

So Broadsheet, would you mind getting Bodger to clear up this lump of poo one of the pack left up
Don’t make me another victim of this Mad Vax Dunderdrome thing ye’ve go going on

            ta

          2. GiggidyGoo

You denounced the scientists that SOQ quoted by making little of his posts about them.. The many scientists. Not only that, you were complicit in forcing SOQ off the site.
So spare me the ‘ah here’, and the megaphone ‘for everyone else’ phrases.

Plus, I don’t plaster ‘the gaff with MadVax material’. I ask pertinent questions, which people of limited ability aren’t able to separate from their pre-conceived pigeon-holing.

          3. V aka Frilly Keane

            No I didn’t
Find an SOQ science post where I attacked the science
            g’wan

as for being complicit in driving him off the site
that is a filthy pack of lies

And what he posted into the Chatpit on the LO’N show deserved to be called out by a lot more than me

And if you and Broadsheet maintain that, I will have no problem providing far – far worse from SOQ, that is hosted here, plus so many others

        2. f_lawless

Careful Frilly, by taking that stance, you’re liable to get branded a Pandemic Denier in these parts ;)

          1. V aka Frilly Keane

            Ah bless
are you stuck for numbers there in the Mad Vax Dunderdrome

That’s a pity, but it always happens with informal groups, they usually fall apart in the end. No matter how well meaning, when there is no real strategy or ethos that is strong enough to form a common bond, the early noise and the energy disappears as quickly as it plumed up.
Then of course there is the dominant personalities that tend to exploit others goodwill, and use the group as a spring board or an opportunity for other interests, usually profit. But shur’ that’s human nature.

I’m only here for the transparency, the compliance, the governance and the probity
            Accountability stuff
            so go – you know
            shag off
            would that be ok

oh yeah, Professor Luke O’Neill will be giving me a few more shows
and one will be about the regulations and code policing the relationships between research and commercial production
and how they manage Conflicts of Interest and avoid the risk of Influence. And explain how he/ his lab and his employer manages his own Conflict risks.

Hardly your thing tho’ not SciFi fantasy enough,
but he has promised to do a Sci Fi Film Festival thingy and the Science of Zombies, so that might be up your street

Something else too, but I would only be spoiling it now by telling ye, but its pure Frilly, a tribute even. So maybe dig out all your old logins, it will be worth it.

          2. GiggidyGoo

Would that be the Luke O’Neill who, back in 2015, when asked if a piece of communion was put into a container with agar jelly, would it be possible to grow a ‘ little Christ – a pocket Christ’ , , answered ‘you probably could’.

And Broadsheet on the Telly is your show.?

            (Oh look, something in bold)

          3. V aka Frilly Keane

            Good stuff
I’ll ask him to grow the body of christ or whatever tis called

so where did I say twas my show anyway?

cheezuz Broadsheet, I need a shower after dipping into the gaff this morning
and Fridays used to be great craic
            hey yere gaff
            yere rules

already said, I’m just not cut out for yere Mad Vax’scene here

but do us a favour, can ye try and put a cap on the falsehoods ye host
            ta, V

          4. V aka Frilly Keane

so in your head ↑that↑= (= means equals btw)
‘And Broadsheet on the Telly is your show.?’

            Jayney mac t’night
is it any wonder lads are taking yere interpretation of science stuff and research data etc asunder

now, you flung three assertions about me on this thread alone
and on each I asked you to provide proof

you failed with the telly thing there,
so lets hear from you on the other two
            today please

  3. GiggidyGoo

Has Donnelly some illness that results in him lying and contradicting himself day in, day out? It’s gone beyond comical at this stage.

Notably it’s Varadkar who has full confidence in him, and Michilín doing his half way up, half way down jiggery pokery act.

Bad auld dose of seasonal flu in India all the same…

Sure a couple of panadol and a bit of rest and they’ll all be grand…

      1. V aka Frilly Keane

its the salt with the Chocolate

a combo and a recipe that’s been around for years, my spirit animal btw, Nigella, must have a new series or podcast or something in the pipeline if its getting placed now again

btw folks, smoky streaky rashers drenched in maple syrup into a roasting tray covered in tingfoil
        (if there’s any left (▀̿Ĺ̯▀̿ ̿) around here) … ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
        160℃ 15 mins
or to your own taste, go hotter for crispier – but you’d be better off just taking the tingfoil off for about 5 mins in the oven instead
if ye could cope with that like ( ̄_, ̄ )

          1. V aka Frilly Keane

then you need to dig out the Soda Bread with Notions recipe

its on one of the weekend papers somewhere

the Bake’Sheet recipe folder never got off the ground, maybe someone pinned it
            dunno where to start tbh

baking isn’t the sorta chemistry Broadsheet is interested in anymore, they kinda out grew it,
bitta craic here in the comments alright, and shur this is where its at anyway

        1. Charger Salmons

          Indeed V.
It’s why sea salt chocolate bars and grated chocolate in chilli are so nice.
And salt and sweet together is a mainstay of Chinese cooking.

The sun stuck for news today.
Young lad gets charged with possession of class a.
I have to wonder how many other anonymous young lads in the same situation, who didn’t make front page news, even in their local paper are looking at the sun wondering what they have to do to hit the headlines ?

    Charger’s Friday Fact-Filled Jab Jibber-Jabber™

Another big vaccine day in Blighty yesterday – 562,056 new vaccinations registered – and the number of people who’ve had both doses of a Covid-19 vaccine is 11,623,671 or 17.4% of the total population.
The number of people who’ve had at least one dose is 33,388,637
Or 49.99% (!) of the total population.
And, of course, the pandemic is over.

150000 dead horses with Boris sitting on them for a photo op…

none of us are out of the woods yet… such is life

        1. Charger Salmons

Just to remind the slow ones at the back of the class – Blighty is divided into four regions and Boris is responsible for NHS England.
By all means criticise how he’s handled the pandemic but remember Sturgeon, Drakeford and Foster run each of their own regions and followed the exact same scientific and medical advice .
