Dublin City Council will open 22 of its public buildings on a “toilets only” basis

This afternoon.

Further to news that Dublin City Council will open its public buildings for people to use the toilets.

Fine Gael Councillor Colm O’Rourke, who has long lobbied for more lavs, writes:

‘This news, along with the invitation from the Council for companies to tender for the provision of public toilets in conjunction with retail units, is stepping in the right direction.

It is a great move to open toilets in public buildings or provide toilets in conjunction with retail units, to ensure that the toilets remain safe, accessible for all, clean and, well ventilated – that is so important.

It needs to be stressed that more public toilets need to be put in place not just during the COVID-19 pandemic but after it too. People are embracing an outdoor culture more, but the facilities need to be in place to allow people to enjoy this way of living.’
