The Klaxon’s “Gravity’s Rainbow (Soulwax remix)”
the original song is good, and the remix is not dissimilar to others by Soulwax, but they really nailed it on this one, it’s a monster and the breakdown makes me want to punch the air…
https://youtu.be/pZnJeNRuQUs
Definitely Tu vuò fa L’Americano Remix – a great remix of a funny song
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4dZM2HIJ4Y
None of the many remixes is as good as Renato Carasone’s original, though

Whoops, wrong link for the original Tu Vuò Fa…

Primal Scream – “Come Together (12″ Weatherall Mix)”
https://youtu.be/QLcKmOwRk_c
The middle of my student years. Living my very non Normal People life at the time, this track was a landmark, as was the album it came from. The single version of this came out a year (August 1990) before Screamadelica was released, in September 1991. Such time lines would be unimaginable in the music business now. The single was OK. I had actually forgotten there was single version of Come Together until I saw it on BBC Four’s repeat of 1990 Top of the Pops recently. What a bland, plodding song it was when compared to this masterwork remix. In fact, no remixer has ever had such a central role in transforming a band’s sound and place in music history on one album. Come Together is the ultimate come down, chill out track that just carries you along on a wave of positive vibes.
Here is the single version to compare:
https://youtu.be/ZUjW82je_38
Fail we may, sail me must.
Weatherall’s sampling of the speech by Jesse Jackson at Wattstax in 1972 for the intro is masterful.
Here’s the original

More Weatherall?
Leftfield – Open Up (I Hate Pink Floyd Mix)
https://youtu.be/wBPfZ9Ra0NQ
My Bloody Valentine – “Soon” (Andy Weatherall Mix)
When Loveless met Screamadelica. !
Weatherall made the kings of distortion sound like never before. MBF’s “Soon” is completely reimagined, adding a sample from the Dynamic Corvettes’ Funky Music Is The Thing to create a shape-shifting dancefloor monster. It proved the band didn’t always need ear-bleeding distortion to blow the audiences’ mind.

Deep Dish – Under the Water
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IY0PD3GA09U
Why?
Deep Dish, of course.
https://youtu.be/prKxNraNs0c
I really love Dr Drez’s 2008 remix of Aretha Franklin’s 1965 single “One Step Ahead” for a few reasons, the first and foremost of course is Aretha herself, and the song, both sublimely wonderful.
Second is DJ Drez’s rootsy style of chilled out hip-hop old skool turntabling and scratching lends so well as accompaniment to the vocal.
Also it makes a great bridge track between genres and styles in my fav playlist as it allows a smooth transition from from old school bluesy-motown to more modern minimal house type stuff!
Bridge songs / tracks, as I call ’em, are a treasure and this is one of my favs :)
Apparently this mix was done specifically for the video in the link… Enjoy :)
Enjoyed that.
Thanks Clamps.
Something makes me think there will be plenty of Andrew Weatherall’s work on here and why not.
He was a busy busy chap. with an ear for the sublime.
Happy Friday – Sun is shining (where I am anyhow) –
This is already shaping up well… Looking forward to my usual Saturday morning playing through these picks :)

Mory Kante Yeke Yeke.
Hardfloor remix.
And here is the original
https://youtu.be/bJNiMNUSrw8
The original is brilliant and probably the first time many of us were exposed to proper African pop music rather than cultural bin dippers like David Byrne and Paul Simon taking aspects of it for their use.
The Hardfloor remix while staying true to the original brought it to a new level. I’ve arthritis from top to bottom but I can never resist the urge to boogie every time I hear. The suspense of the build up at the start, the break out in to the euphoria of Mory Kantes vocals and the pleasing length of it. Dance floor perfection.
Nothing wrong with “bin dipping” as you call it :)
Good pick. Forgot about that one.
Has to be one of the King’s finest remixed by Junkie XL – little less conversation
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e1efsq1GFpE
Sandy B. – Make The World Go Round (Deep Dish Round The World Remix)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKPsBTo_2vY
Superb remix.
https://youtu.be/4y7Bvq4HSTs
Happy Mondays -W.F.L (Vince Clark remix)
Vince Clark’s remix of The Happy Mondays’ Wrote For Luck. A dirty low down chugger of a Mugger-Fugger.
Played this to get in the mood before a night out, back in the day. Smell the Hacienda.
I love it because the vibes are very clearly drawn from the vocalists own band’s song, ‘Like a Pen’.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEhbR4JqfPw
YOKES YOKES YOKES……
That’s deadly :)
Another great original remixed.
Yello – You got to say yes to another excess remixed at great length by the Orb.
https://youtu.be/KUgi5Hj1XbI
What expecting that heavy a sound from the Orb, I like :)
Midlake – Roscoe (Beyond The Wizard’s Sleeve Remix)
The original is already breathtaking and one of those songs most people would consider completely un-remixable.
However, these guys (Erol Alken of Phantasy Sound Records and Richard Norris of the Grid) unravel the song and piece it back together while delicately accentuating everything that made the original brilliant. Rather than put their stamp all over it, they create what could be an alternative take of the song. One where everything is pushed to make it slightly more psychedelic, slightly more emotional and slightly more danceable. You’d be forgiven for listening to it and thinking it was the original but if you listen to them one-after-the-other you can really understand the magic they have done. Possibly the greatest remix of all time.
“Oh, they’re a little like you, and they’re a little like me. We have all we need”

Great call
+1 :)
Last one. Honest.

For those of you not familiar with Late Night Tales – a series of curated compilation albums by many different artists over the years, you really need to. Each album is a series of mixed tracks designed to be the artist’s ultimate late night mix. I have most of them and they’re fantastic.
But should you feel the urge to buy one I would recommend is The Cinematic Orchestra’s Late Night Tales.
So, my recommendation is not so much a single remixed track, but an album so fantastically mixed, listening
is a mesmerizing experience. It also needs to be listened to end to end and in sequence to get the full experience but I’ll link to this part of the mix… Which is just so damn cool… Terry Callier’s – You’re Goin’ Miss Your Candyman
https://youtu.be/CIIt6JMC4t8
https://latenighttales.co.uk/products/aln22
That’s a very good recommendation. I have the record here. Top class.
There are covers. And there is this. https://youtu.be/Wo80bXyEbkE
A beautiful song taken even further by beauty.
Wicked game, London Grammar.
Every single word and note is perfect. Original and cover.
Oh my…
Yep.
Todd Terry, Everything But The Girl. Missing.
Best remix ever.

Perfect remix
If you’ve ever had your heart broken, or broke someone’s.
https://youtu.be/oKOtzIo-uYw
Fugees. Killing me softly.
One of the greatest covers!
Is that the yoke with the irritating ‘one time’ thing running through it?
Hate that poxy song.
Great pick!
This is a blast from the past of music videos, its constructed out of samples from Gary Numan’s song M.E.
Its Basement Jaxx – Where’s your head at

This is a remix of ‘The Word Girl’ by Scritti Politti.
It’s called ‘Flesh and Blood’ and it’s bt Scritti Politti & Ranking Anne.

It’s very good.
This is a remix of that remix.

Grace Jones – Slave to the Rhythm (Hot Blooded Version)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DgTJZR60D3g
Just phenomenal, as if Trevor Horn’s lush production and the band’s gorgeous playing aren’t enough, we get this 8 minutes of it on this version.
In fact, the entire Slave To The Rhythm album is a remix, there’s really only two songs on it. Horn’s version of Owner Of A Lonely Heart just occurred to me, calling it a remix doesn’t explain what he did to a fairly standard Yes proggy/FM/AOR track.
Cancel all the other entries
Stripped back to backings vocals, lead vocals and beautiful notes on a piano.
If you have a moment to step outside the hectic speed of modern life, find a quiet spot for your soul to relax and perhaps sip a glass of wine listening to a superb remixed version of David Bowie’s Sound and Vision.

Fluke – Groovy Feeling (Make Mine a 99)
https://youtu.be/qPmqWu05234
Nothing more to say about this other than it is an absolute progressive house classic. This is the full 99 remix at 7mins 51secs. This is the weekend for blasting this out of the car window.
Top Tune, seen so many 99’s today, resplendent in the sunshine, great choice
Lust For Life – The Prodigy Remix
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VyQgNdxtGiQ
The original was good, the remix is superb. Trainspotting never seemed so good! (Although the film sequel was only average)
I have a real soft spot for Holiday Rap by MC Miker and DJ Sven as it brings me back to my first holiday without my parents at the tender age of 19. It was 1987 and we went to Santa Ponsa where the nightclub Fama was where it was all at!
https://youtu.be/L7aJr1fIGMk
Kosmos (lynch mob bonus beats)
Paul Weller
Loved the original, heard this and loved it too.
https://youtu.be/-i8djfurMVQ
Remixes… dear good why… pretty much sums up why we’re doomed… 95% of the time lazy nonsense
But if push comes to shove, top of the 5%:
FLO’s remix of Bjork “Possibly Maybe”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7cucQ8peA-o
And technically Hans Zimmer’s use of “Non, je ne regrette rien”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVkQ0C4qDvM
okay, it’s more quotation than sample… but still… pretty cool

Mario Biondi
This is what you are Opolopo Remix
https://youtu.be/NB52a_tWYzM
loved the original, the remix elevates things, really like it too.
What’s the difference between a remix and a cover?
If there be none there can be only one.
https://youtu.be/qmGFFJtkDXA
Let the pigeons fly!!
For something a bit older this absolute classic from Arthur Baker in 1987. It’s amazing what you can do with some piano, delay, percussion and a bit of imagination.
Fleetwood Mac – Big Love (Extended)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfpPUsfmVO4
Another classic is this Weatherall Gem from 1991. He takes Saint Etienne’s wonderfully twee cover of Neil Young and twists it into a wonderfully dubby piano house classic.
4 and a half minutes minutes of dub followed by 4 and half minutes of classic 90’s pop. 9 minutes of bliss.
Cool & deadly.
Saint Etienne – Only Love Can Break Your Heart (A Mix Of Two Halves By Andrew Weatherall)

Thanks, good to know what it is.
apologies for posting that twice.
Is it not just an instrumental version… I do like it :)
Brimful of Asha – CornerShop (Fat Boy Slim remix)
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=a0BkP5HDWj0
After hearing it the original pales.
Drove the song back into the charts for them a year after original was released
First FBS effort I ever heard. I remember that the DJ on the radio introduced him as. Norman Cooke the former Housemartins’s bassist (as in he didn’t call him FBS).
Great remix anyways.
Dolly Parton -Jole (Todd Trje remix)-
Remixer extraordinaire, Todd Terje remixes Dolly Parton’s classic. On paper it doesn’t work, on record it is dope.
Nice build up with a pay off well worth it. Dolly’s voice and the guitar picking are divine. Rock on!
https://youtu.be/Xkl36pu8aLY
Jolene and Todd Terje.. Evil typos are evil.
A good song ruined!
I like it :)
Simplest – Jolene at half speed…. would love to hear Dolly do it like this

Fever Ray Mustn’t Hurry -Dinamarca remix
https://youtu.be/u-3qy7imX4w
I’ve no idea what makes a good remix to be honest. Karin Dreijer seems to like this so that’s what I’m going on.
All of these are awesome, but this is especially hot.
Miley Cyrus does Jolene. https://youtu.be/wOwblaKmyVw
And if you want to fall head over heels in love with her, check this little number out
https://youtu.be/aSpkaBeZckY
Wow!
Her version of Jolene is belting away in the kitchen now :)
She does it very well, some voice on her.
Dangerous to meddle with the classics but for me, this is a top drawer remix
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MMTMNhESY4E
Jackson 5 – ABC (Minimatic ‘Under the Volcano’ Remix)
MJ’s vocals remain the same but song takes on a completely different dimension – not the out-and-out joyous feel of the original, it now has a kind of wistful, melancholic feel. Works so well.
It may be a mash-up. Does anyone recognise the instrumental part from somewhere else?
I like :)
Tried googling for an answer, no joy :/

Protection by Massive Attack & Tracey Thorn multiplied by Mad Professor.
Shut up and listen…

I was just going to mention the whole remix album by Mad Professor. I particularly like the remix of Karmacoma.
Nice one Nost :)
I’ll have to look for that Seamus, ta for heads up :)

Depeche Mode – Enjoy The Silence (Reinterpreted By Mike Shinoda)
https://youtu.be/ofrB6OCSsgk

Mixing The Clash with rap sounds like a bad thing, but this really works, brilliant hook has to be said!
M.I.A – Paper Planes.
https://youtu.be/9E-d4VPt6cE
Enjoy!
Love it :)
Sugarhill Gang –
RappersDubbers Delight (Leftside Wobble remix)The dub-reggae remix. Better than the original, in my opinion
https://leftsidewobble.bandcamp.com/track/dubbers-delight
The vocal delivery is better than the original. It’s apparently the same trio but not the vocals from the original single release. Haven’t managed to figure out yet which version they come from. And how can you go wrong with a bit of reggae in the mix
On youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=enSnoSslezw
Maria Callas – Carmen (Habanera) (Chuy Ayala Remix)
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=r8JvrZv468I

Don’t Stand So Close to Me 86 – The Police
Basically because whoever produced the video wanted to get every effect that was available at the time into the video, it’s all over the place

If the winner of this competition doesn’t have the words “Human” and “League” in the title I swear…
I’ll take the weekend off.
Oleg Berg “DeMixes” Bobby McFerrin
A little ditty to not enjoy, ‘in these unprecedented times’.
Dedicated to all the doom mongers out there…!
“Be (!) Worry, Don’t (!) Happy”: Minor key.

Both of these are deadly…
First, the original, Exuma Baal – https://youtu.be/Y94GLSGVRWg
Such a great vocal on that :)
And then this remix, which is how I first came by it…
B.A.A.L (Erhan Kessen and Nika Remix)…. This is sublime :)
https://youtu.be/hcpetylii4o
What’s cool about the original v the remix… is the original sounds like tortured soul, and apparently is about that…. But the remix is way chilled, and uses the vocal just right, while a little sparingly.
Sure have a listen :)
Where’d my previous post go BS? Should I re-do it? :(
It’s back, yay :)
Good tune.
Now you’re getting to the good stuff – more please!
Found that on this wonderful Falscher Hase mix – https://youtu.be/wE9sKJiwNEs
Thanks for link
He has a few other hour long mixes that are simply sublime…
I posted a couple others, but they disappeared… I’m sure you’ll find ’em :)
One still there… scroll down for it :)
Found it!

Elvis Presley’s very posthumous album, “Elvis Presley With The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra”. Is an excellent album where Presley’s classic tracks have masterful arrangements and mixing that ensures Elvis has never sounded better. It is a superb remix and brought out new depths to his hits.
Here’s one of the King rocking the blues with the best of them, it is moody, brooding, and absolutely perfect!
