A Limerick A Day

23 MLAs have signed a letter of no confidence in Northern Ireland First Minister Arlene Foster (above)

Her members say Foster can’t be
The leader of the DUP
As they say it’s her fault
That they failed to halt
A border in the Irish Sea.

Well, if her own party believe her to be a weak leader, god knows what class of individual will succeed her.

When Terence O’Neill invited Sean Lemass north to a pow wow in 1965 he was seen as weak and toppled. Nothing changes in Unionist politics. Weakness or percieved weakness is never tollerated. This may be on on going process where the successor may be removed because Unionism is between a rock and a hard place and will be for years to come.

Sheesh; I had this down as:

When the tough element heave Arlene Foster aside and replace her with a proper hardjaw, her admirers can quote Virgil:
Sunt lacrima rerum et mentem mortalia tangunt.

the loyalist and unionist communities of the north are ideal candidates for russian support; religious, fundamentalist, tribal. putin loves these sorts of regimes because they destabilise the liberal democracies around them. i’d say if you wouldn’t have to dig that hard to find roubles in their deposit accounts.
