You OK, Shun?

at

Gulp.

CNN host Michael Smerconish asked his viewers if Americans should shun other Americans who haven’t been vaccinated.

7,241 of them responded.

73% of them said yes.

  1. Cui Bono?

73% of them have been brainwashed.

Gentle reminder that the average IFR of covid is only 0.23% and only 0.05% for under 70s.

Global hysteria is real and happening right now.

    1. Kdoc

What is the statistical data for those under 70 who become seriously ill from Covid 19?
Younger age groups probably realise they don’t want to become infected because, depending on the severity of the infection, it could take a month or more to recover.
Perhaps they are behaving altruistically in that don’t wish to risk infecting their parents, relatives, or friends with underlying conditions.

      1. Cui Bono?

80% have no symptoms and do not even get sick.

“long covid” which is post viral syndrome is only approx 0.2% of the 20% who get symptoms so it’s a minuscule amount. Hyped up in the media but in reality it’s nothing to worry about.

        1. Lilly

Where are you getting your data? One in three people with symptoms gets Long Covid.

        2. Kdoc

80 percent show mild or no symptoms. However, 15 percent require oxygen and 5 percent need ventilation, and some will die. 20 percent of the COVID population becoming seriously ill is not insignificant. But you think that’s okay!

          1. Cui Bono?

You seriously need to look at the data properly.

Your “15 percent require oxygen and 5 percent need ventilation” is absolute nonsense.

By the way, a requirement for oxygen does not necessarily mean it’s administered in a hospital setting.

The divide really is quite staggering. I know sane and reasonable people down at the kids football practice standing talking to you outdoors wearing a flipping mask. Telling you how terrified they are and they won’t feel safe until they get the jab!! these are people in their 40s!! Common sense has completely disappeared and there is simply no point trying to get the other side to see your perspective.
This will all just repeat come September October when everyone vaccinated will need another vaccine for the myriad of colds going around.
The virus is madness and the divided camps thinks the other is the maddest. MAD

      1. Micko

Pretty much my mates are split in two groups already.

One group has been completely ignoring the restrictions and the others have been staying inside terrified out of their wits. We’re all in our 40’s too.

So, the groups are already shunning each other.

It’ll just take the vaccine to bring the others back to the light. Be grand ;)

        1. J9

Hey Micko. I can’t say my experience has been the same. Among my pals everyone is doing their best do stick with restrictions, myself included. – I don’t think any of us are “staying inside terrified out of our wits” – generally just exercising a modicum of caution to try and keep people safe. I will take the vaccine as will most people I know. I think the dramatic language from both sides is divisive and unhelpful. Hope yr havin a good day.

          1. Micko

            Hey man

Yes thanks. Lovely day and same to yourself. ;)

Can I ask you, what do you guys think of people like us that are done with or were against the restrictions?

I’ve a tight group of friends that are just split down the middle and I don’t know if we’ll ever be the same.

Is he whole covid divide just insurmountable?

          2. Oro

“I don’t know if we’ll ever be the same.”

Aren’t you a bit long in the tooth for this young-adult melodrama?

          3. Micko

            What can I say Oro.

            I’m a 90’s guy baby.

In touch with my feelings n’ stuff ye know. ;)

        2. J9

Hi again … I can only really speak for myself but I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t difficult and frustrating to see / hear people just blatantly flouting restrictions. The way I feel is that I’ll abide as best as I can because I don’t want to get sick. I’ve friends and family with underlying issues (cf, obesity, old age) and I don’t want them to get sick either. I’ve seen the effects of covid and long covid and it’s horrible. I think that’s why anyone abiding by the restrictions does it – simple as that. It seems to me that there are various and complicated reasons why people don’t believe in / abide by restrictions. It’s sh*t – we can all agree on that for sure. It’s definitely divisive and There’s been horrible language used by both sides – which helps no one. I do think though that the world has been through worse and come out the other side. I don’t think it’s insurmountable – people will fall out with eachother and maybe some of them won’t get over that but Eventually we’ll get through this. Sorry about the long reply. All the best.

          1. Micko

No worries on long replies J9.

Good to get another opinion without going crazy at each other.

I do disagree with you on it of course.

Not really on Covid and it’s repercussions, of course it’s dangerous to very specific groups, but because of what the restrictions are doing to our society and how it’s been jumped on and exploited by opportunists.

I also think some of the restrictions are just plain wrong.

Still though – civil dialogue is good ;)

  2. freewheeling

Ask that 73% vaccinated: if it’s so good at protecting you from catching it, then why do you even care about what the unvaccinated choose? The hysteria about the unvaccinated “spreading it” is the same BS playbook again; masks were just the warm-up act for jabs.

    1. John

And just as things were starting to ease up they release a variant into India to ratchet up the fear.
Sacrifice India to scare everyone into taking the vaccine! Or keep the mask industry going for another while. Someones making big bucks selling these masks and stuff. Wake up sheeple. Say no to the big mask industrial complex!

      1. Nigel

        ‘they release a variant’

Maybe people feel like shunning the majority of unvaccinated people because of their awful, awful opinions.

          1. Nigel

            ‘mask industrial complex’

There are so many posts about vested interests propogating the virus that I blanked on that. Sorry, John. My point stands, though.

      2. realPolithicks

        Dear John:
“The week is long. The silver cat feeds when blue meets yellow in the west. A trip to China sounds nice if you tread lightly.”
        I repeat;
“The week is long. The silver cat feeds when blue meets yellow in the west. A trip to China sounds nice if you tread lightly”

  3. Hector Rameriz

Why not just preface the name these stories ‘bodgers echo chamber’ that way they can all huddle the together.

And bodger can find them for a nice warm hug anytime.

  4. J9

I’ve heard certain folks talking about shunning people who have been vaccinated because of “vaccine shedding” … LOL … jaysus at this rate none of us will be talkin to each other … Global hysteria is real and happening right now indeed …

    1. Lilly

Yup, I’ve heard that too. And if they’re not ‘shedding’, it’s because they were given a placebo. Bats in the belfry, Geoffrey.

        1. U N M U T U A L

          @lily
I think this ‘pseudocrem’ shares similar properties with another product released in 2020 called… Asymptomatic Spread…?
          aka… I Can’t Believe I’m Not Better! ;-)

  5. Zaccone

If you’ve been vaccinated then why would you care if someone you’re socializing with hasn’t been? Surely the whole point of the vaccine is that it protects you?

Not a whole lot of logic here…

      1. Nigel

Holy God, the US are headed for a cold million people dead. Sure India’s lost hardly anyone with just over 15,000. So far. Assuming the count is accurate in the chaos.

        1. Nigel

Also, that’s six countries, not ‘the world.’

US 98,000 not a million sorry, phew, misread. Headed for a cold 100,000 people dead, that’s all.
          Italy 67,000
          UK 65,000
          Germany 41,000
          Canada 33,000

‘80% have no symptoms and do not even get sick.’

      2. ce

Health service is doing good too…

Tricky to get a cremation though, I’m sure it will clear up soon enough

  6. eoin

CNN viewers are mentally ill and heavily misinformed regarding any news. Thankfully there a very few watching. How would anyone know who’s been jabbed and who has not anyway? So what happens if the emerging stories of shedding and vaccinosis etc. turn out to be accurate, and those who got the jab now have compromised immune systems and need constant booster shots and can’t mix with the unvaccinated or even risk going outdoors?

    1. Fergalito

      What emerging stories? Where?

Like Alick who replied to you the other day, I googled both assertions you’ve made about shedding and vaccinosis and there’s not much to report. Could you hook me up with some reputable linkage?

      1. f_lawless

Apparently there’s a reference made to shedding in this paper on the Astra Zeneca vaccine (referred to as ‘ChAdOx1 nCoV-19/AZD1222’ vaccine). Anyone?

        https://pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/acscentsci.1c00080

        Title:

        “Native-like SARS-CoV-2 Spike Glycoprotein Expressed by ChAdOx1 nCoV-19/AZD1222 Vaccine”

“…While this observation that the majority of cells infected with ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 present native-like spikes on the cell surface (Figure 1B), it is interesting to note that a population may shed the S1 subunit. Whether this is a beneficial or detrimental feature with respect to the elicitation of immune responses during vaccination is unknown Shedding of S1 subunits from viruses occurs during native infection, and the ChAdOx1 nCoV-19-derived S proteins mimic this native feature of the viral spike….”.
