German educational design studio Kurzgesagt turns to a sobering truth of astrophysics: the fact that 94% of the observable Universe is so far from us that we will never go there, even if we achieve light-speed travel. To wit:
…there is a cosmological horizon around us. Everything beyond it, is traveling faster, relative to us, than the speed of light. So everything that passes the horizon, is irretrievably out of reach forever and we will never be able to interact with it again. In a sense it’s like a black hole’s event horizon, but all around us. 94% of the galaxies we can see today have already passed it and are lost to us forever.
And if that twists your melon, consider this: by the time you’ve watched the video, 22 million more stars will have drifted off beyond our reach.
Even the cosmic shrug of absolute indifference will not dissuade my simian siblings from their delusional and unshakeable conviction that we are a good species going somewhere. We are in fact, a species of incomparable badness, deservedly and blindly going nowhere.

That’s probably the danger of conceptual based expressions of our living world from a rationalised perspective. This idea of pointlessness seems to return and be reiterated but I think thas a cop out tbh. Like it’s everyone’s right of course but it’s also worth adding that it is just a different form of escape. The Journey to nowhere is still a journey and all that. The rational mind likes to understand as a way to participate. So beginning middle and end are attractive for good reason. Still its also good to be willing if you can to not resign yourself to that reason. In a world where the inside is outside we can also be going the other way. Hard to reflect that in a satisfying map but there’s always the stars to look at where things get too rational for good nature to flourish. All the best
