The 99 ice cream is at risk due to a Cadbury’s Flake drought
At long last you can finally take
A very well earned seaside break
You may even dream
Of eating ice cream
But hard luck: there’s a shortage of Flake

Oh no! Add to that Celestial bengal spice tea and Innocent apples, pears and kale smoothie… missing from the shelves since the pandemic kicked off.
Some baby foods too seem to be very hard to find. Not so much an issue at the start of the year or even the pandemic, but over the past few months there have definitely been supply issues. I suspect that shops had stockpiled in preparation for Brexit and now we’re seeing the supply issues coming through.
That said, is it even a 99 without the flake?
it most definitely is not. having said that, a finger of fudge or a twix is an acceptable alternative.
A Yorkie if you’re tough as nails.
Don’t you mean a Twirl? A Twix would ruin it, too many extra flavours and textures. Who wants to chew a 99.
Yep, a Twirl would be a respectable alternative.
Or as Bob says, a Galaxy ripple.
I only discovered Flake do a Cornetto style ice cream, you can get a four pack in most supermarkets but the real kicker is the ice cream, really, really good stuff.
apologies lilly, you are of course correct – a twirl, not a twix.
I like to bite the bottom of the cone off and suck the ice cream down the cone, can’t be dealing with a dry cone, chocolate just gets in the way
HOW DARE YOU!
”Chocolate just gets in the way”!!!!!
Chocolate is our friend, now go away and say 4 ”Only the crumbliest, flakiest chocolate – tastes like chocolate never tasted before” and you will be absolved of this most heinous of sins!
;)
Faulty hydrolics, Janet. Take a couple of nips out of the flake, then push what’s left down the cone and suck to your heart’s content. When most of the ice cream is gone, you’re left with a few delicious cone, chocolate, ice cream bites.
faulty hydrolics ! tries not to laugh :)
Bite the bottom off, but, and here’s the magic, use the flake to push the ice cream down into your mouth, thereby forming a wafer, ice cream and chocolate tube treat.
Welcome.
Great minds!
Stick a ripple in and never look back!

Ripple is the superior flake.
The flake is the worst part…
Also, Irish ice cream sucks in general, we are long overdue for some ice cream parlours selling nice ice cream with a higher fat content, not only this watery 99 stuff (which I do also have a soft spot for).
Oh my God! What is wrong with you people!
We have Janet above saying chocolate gets in the way and now you are saying the flake is the worst bit….
What have we wrought oh my Lord, is that what lockdown has done to us, why hath thine peoples forsaken Chocolate?
Why…..
:(
It’s a national disgrace!
I know, check me agreeing with Rob ;()… and the flakes make me cough…I’ve said too much
S(no)wflake!
melts a little
Ah OK, yes the flake chocolate can be a little dry and powdery so you get a special Papi(L) dispensation…..
Bless you all.
i know you pride yourself on being a contrarian rob, but this is a step too far.
Always question flake news.

Seems to have caused a ripple alright.
Oul lads scoffing a cone is one of the joys of the Irish summer months.
