From the HART independent expert group in the UK:
    https://www.hartgroup.org/indian-variant-concerns-unfounded/

“Concerns about Indian variant continue to be unfounded

The obsession with named variants seems to be a phenomenon that is particularly ‘virulent’ in the UK, perhaps due to the overanalysis of samples never seen before in the history of disease epidemiology. The existence of sophisticated genomics laboratories is possibly our undoing in this regard and the old adage ‘seek and you shall find’ seems particularly pertinent.

Is this simply the next chapter in the long-running series of Operation Fear that the government refuses to end in spite of much recent coverage of the unethical use of these tactics throughout the past year? It feels as though we are perpetually ‘mining’ for disease, even in the absence of any observable problem. There is even a bid to start trawling the sewers. If you need to look in the sewers to find it, it probably isn’t a clinically relevant problem.

But what is the reality on the ground? There is currently no threat of any hospitals being overwhelmed and absolute case numbers are still very small, in spite of the use of emotive language such as ‘cases rocket’ in local press reporting…”

Yes completely impartial of course- VIRGo leads the vax4COVID alliance at the Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity and acknowledges funding from vaccine manufacturers Seqirus (CSL), GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), Janssen and Merck?

Scott Morrison, the PM, is a nasty piece of work. He is cut from the same cloth as Trump and Bozo. Murdoch has way too much power in Australia. Scumo (Morrison) is beholden to him, for sure. Murdoch is the king-maker. He is the master manipulator. His minions have spent the last 15 months attacking the Victorian State Government because they are from the left. So, anything is possible on the topic of ‘no jab, no pay. However, vulnerable people have been catching whooping cough because of the anti-vaxxers. I met the president of the Vic Polio Association, once. I am pretty keen on avoiding polio and other illnesses.

“vulnerable people have been catching whooping cough because of the anti-vaxxers..”

            What a ridiculous statement..

That link wouldn’t be the best to support your decision to take advice from the Peter Doherty Institute. That article is riddled with phrases that confirm it actually doesn’t know a lot.

“Victoria’s chief health officer Brett Sutton said the reproduction number of the strain was yet to be determined, but could be five or more, meaning one person would infect five others.” (‘yet to be determined’)

“B.1.617.1 is one of three so-called “Indian” SARS-CoV-2 variant sub-types. Little is known about it but it’s likely to have similar characteristics to the sub-type dominating in India and emerging in the United Kingdom at the moment, B.1.617.2.” (‘little is known about it’)

“Laboratory tests also raise the possibility that reinfection might be more common with the B.1.617 variant, but this is yet to be confirmed by real-world data and for all sub-types.” (‘the possibility’) (‘might’)

In fact if you read the whole article it’s full of phrases such as ‘no data available’, ‘not known yet’ etc.

The Peter Doherty institute may be well regarded, but that particular article doesn’t do much to instill trust in any conclusions they might make.

It is good that they are not making claims based on a particular standpoint. They are stating facts. I am happy to wait for them to update the information as they learn more.

          1. GiggigyGoo

The facts they state are basically that they don’t know enough to be able to give proper information. It isn’t a great link to instill confidence, and they probably would have been advised to keep it in-house until they got more concrete info. That goes for both sides of the argument of course.

I was pretty shocked to hear Lynn Boylan on the Echo Chamber Podcast explain how people in receipt of HAP are ineligible for legal aid as it’s seen as a type of income in kind (completely paraphrasing). It’s really shocking.

They are going to bring it up in the Dail on Monday as a piece of emergency legislation. Again my terms might be wrong but the podcast episode is worth a listen. Surprised it’s not front page news but I hope it will be if it’s not amended on Monday.

Giving the plebs free money for their free houses gives them notions. It’s either free money or free legal aid cos giving them both could see them able to afford to live in Ranelagh, rather than the poverty of the Clonskeagh slums.

        “the plebs”

FG would be proud to have a snob of your calibre in their ranks.

General Pubic has been following me around like an angry pup cos I wouldn’t let him chew my shoe or pee on the carpet. He’s best ignored.

          2. General Public

“General Public has been following me around”

How dare I reply to your obnoxious comments. And tbf nobody tosses more pejoratives or insults around more than you.

Grow a thicker skin or head off to the safety of the journal.

Another vast space I’m living rent free in. The brain makes a cute cushion.

          4. General Public

            Eh no.

Need I remind you that you visit this blog every day, whinging obnoxiously about the content.

If anything it shows Bodger has unwittingly ferrited deep into your brain.

Quite something when you think about it.

Previous comments betray your perception of her unfortunately.

It’s a disappointment that this one poster is allowed to be serially abusive to other commenters here. Admins please note

    2. Rob_G

I’m 100% certain that this is incorrect; Paul Murphy earns €100k, and he was entitled to legal aid

    1. GiggigyGoo

Orgasmic. Pity the number 13 is on the door, and even it decided to be flipped.

      1. Daisy Chainsaw

Now he’s getting a tattoo yeah, he’s getting ink done
He asked for a 13, but they drew a 31
Friends say he’s trying too hard and he’s not quite hip
But in his own mind he’s the, he’s the dopest trip

Wrong and basic AF on so many levels. Also, it looks like there is no love lost between these two. O’Brien looks like he wants to push Mary Fitzgerald out of the frame and she is so contemptuous of him that she speaks as if O’Brien wasn’t there.

      Who approved this mess?!

      1. Lilly

Brightspark Consulting. I wish I were joking.

Mary Fitzpatrick whips off mask. Neglects to introduce herself. ‘I’ve never done this before,’ she announces. We’d never have guessed.

        1. goldenbrown

there’s so much to unpack there

I’d say all of the above

plus there’s a bang of contempt for the poor off it

(in my minds eye they’ve just finished a “working lunch” in Guilbaud’s and yer wan all giddy with her social media powers ropes sausage fingers there into a jolly internet jape…)

these people utterly exist in some parallel universe, utter dorks

Herd immunity is what happens when all the stupid people get together and vote for democracy. Luckily, extinction immunity is not a thing.

    2. K. Cavan

“Herd Immunity”, yet another scientific phrase that’s been “redefined” for political purposes. When a narrative has so little veracity that medical terms need to be faked to support it, you know it’s laced with lies, deceit & hidden agendas.
Today, the number of people in our hospitals with Covid hit 99, the first time it’s dipped below 100. I don’t think it will go much lower for some time, it’s been hovering just above the ton for weeks. This implies that Herd Immunity is here to stay & that Sars02 has joined it’s 4 cousins, the Coronaviruses, as endemic, mild, upper respiratory tract infections, what we normally call Colds, indeed, if you’re under 65 and/or healthy, it has never been much more than that. On the other hand, the headline in The Star is most revealing, “Work Less To Save The Planet” reveals what’s coming & what this entire operation has been about, the Climate Change agenda & the deindustrialization of The West. You’ll be offered a weeks wages for a four-day week, they say, no mention of the fact that inflation will rapidly turn a weeks wages into 3 days wages, anyway. The 40-hour week has been an anachronism for a long time but the Neo-Liberals & their supporters on the Fake Left want to bring drastic changes to the lives of the vast majority, while leaving the world of Billionaires & their tax-free, offshored profits completely untouched. All Covid Cultists are supporters of the 1% in this, while consistently & hilariously claiming that those opposing it are the legendary “Far Right”, clearly showing themselves to be self-delusional fantasists. I assume the same obedient sheep who graze on Extinction Rebellion’s AstroTurf also flock to the Covid Cult & are all “Left Wing”, in their own tiny minds.
They will all now join in the choruses of baa-ing, demanding the completion of the most vile, immoral part of the plan, the now utterly unjustifiable use of our innocent children as lab rats, while all the medical & scientific facts deny the rationale for such brutal child abuse. If children are murdered, there will be Old Testament justice served on the perpetrators, in the name & number of those innocents, an eye for an eye, a life for a life, you can keep your feckin’ teeth, we’ll be looking for a pound of flesh, Shylocks.

        Q-uality post K. Cavan. Q-unitessential reading.

You should change your handle to Q. Cavan.

It has more of a ring to it.

Why on earth did Ryan Tubridy agree to an interview with Roisin Ingle? He tells her absolutely nothing. Maybe there’s nothing to tell. Boring.

  4. SOQ

Anyone watching the London protests today? People dancing everywhere. Its days like this that the real London shines, and I get nostalgic for the place.

All shapes and breeds in attendance of course- even rainbow flags flying. In the stream I was watching, someone from the US got confused and assumed it was a Pride event. They are so conditioned into it being a Republican vs Democrat thing, a bit like the fake left we have in Ireland.

A lovely picture of the very beautiful Annie McCarrick, may she rest in peace.
