People After Pivot

at

This morning/afternoon

Zero Covid enthusiasts People Before Profit make a u-turn ahead of a debate this evening on whether the covid Emergency powers are to be extended until November, with the possibility of a three-month extension until February next year.

Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly said last month the November date was informed by ‘public health advice’ and “may well be required into late autumn or early winter”.

Fight!

The neck of these phoney goons. PBP are the epitome of the clown Left today walking in Lockstep with the agendas of the billionaire class, global corporations and High Finance. These guys were screaming for more restrictions. More State intrusion in our lives. The hypocrisy is astounding.

Boyd-Barrett is a politician and he is, well, being a politician by knowing which way the wind is now blowing. Boris Johnson is the current guru of this political philosophy.

And speaking of blowing, E’Matty, I have rarely seen so much hyperbolous hot air from anyone else on here. Cool the jets and get some perspective on reality.

      Sheesh.

Yet every word I have typed here is factually correct. I wouldn’t expect someone such as yourself to understand.

            See we can get along!

Hey, will you brag a bit more about your IQ? Or how the rest of us mere mortals couldn’t possibly understand anything at all ever?

Frankly I’m astonished I can even cross the road.

every word you typed is an opinion. an uninformed, ignorant, toxic opinion. you wouldn’t know a fact if it gave you the clap.

      blah-blah-blah
you wouldn’t be allowed to voice an opinion if it wasn’t for the left wing.
      muppet.

that’s a joke right? The left continue to silence people and have a bloody past in doing so.

Did Stalin, Mao, Hitler or Mussolini (All Marxist or Socialist) have the same love for free speech you guys have developed? Oh right, they did. You’re in good company.

Stalin and Mao were communist, Hitler and Mussolini were fascist. Did you just describe yourself as well-educated on another thread?

          1. E'Matty

Yeah, Hitler led the National Socialist German Workers’ Party. Mussolinis family were revolutionary socialists. He grew up a socialist and remained a believer until the end of his life. Both Hitler and Mussolini considered Fascism a variant of socialism though a collectivist nationalist version. Subjagating individual freedom to the collective is classic Leftist behaviour and mirrors Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, your other pals who you don’t seem to mind being associated with despite their impressive kill rate.

Understand that Broadsheet is entirely agenda-driven at this point – and that’s your prerogative, of course – but you do yourself a huge disservice with blatant lies like this. And I say that with the greatest of respect for you, Bodger.

Richard Boyd Barrett has opposed these measures from the outset – it wouldn’t have been hard to check this before slandering him. One example (speaking on the Health Act 1947 (Section 31A – Temporary Restrictions) (Covid-19) (No. 4) Regulations 2020: Motion [Private Members] / Sept 4, 2020): http://www.kildarestreet.com/debate/?id=2020-09-09a.319

      Excerpting:

“… It is a very wide-ranging and draconian power which we do not believe the Minister should have…What is at stake are very important civil liberties issues… People who have been listening to the Special Committee on Covid-19 Response should listen to what the Free Legal Advice Centres, FLAC, the Irish Council for Civil Liberties, ICCL, and the Law Society have said about their concerns about the inability of the Government to communicate its public health messages and the blurring of the lines between what is a legal offence and what are public health guidelines and concerns. The ICCL opposed the criminal sanctions with regard to movement in the early phases of the pandemic and was worried about the significant criminal sanctions attached to ongoing regulations… We do not believe that Minister should have powers to, essentially, make things penal offences on a whim”

It would be nice to see this corrected/retracted.

Whether Zero Covid is misguided or practical or desirable is debatable. I think he was wrong about that – and I think he’s come to that realisation himself too.

However, that strategy outline, which you’ve linked to, wouldn’t have brought about “more breaches of our civil liberties”. There are 15 proposals – almost all are about protection/furtherance of workers’ rights/conditions.

The only one that could be construed as a curtailment of civil liberty is #2: “stop all non-essential travel into Ireland with 14 day quarantine provided by the state for all incoming travellers”.But when considered in the context of what the strategy was intended to address (ie “since then the economy has been shut down and the movements of people have been severely restricted on two further occasions” – explicitly to enable the domestic economy to re-open and facilitate free movement of people within the country), I don’t see how you can genuinely present this as some neo-fascist attempt to curtail your civil liberties.
He’s been consistent and robust in his opposition to the whole range of draconian powers that have been seized and abused by this government. The “pivot” and “u-turn” thing is glib, unfair and unfounded.

          1. E'Matty

Barrett has been a keen supporter of the Lockdowns, societal restrictions and grotesque infringements on our personal freedoms and Constitutional rights. He’d love if the State could decide every aspect of our lives.

It’s evident from your other comments that you’re an utter moron so this is probably pointless but you’re actually saying that in reply to a link that entirely disproves that stupid assertion.
