Oh feck off you cringey snowflakes. Always getting mad at the wrong thing.
Bitnboxy
They should be getting mad at the lad (and you know it’s an auld lad) who is responsible for their poster design. Shocking.
K. Cavan
Bit, those posters are designed by a transgender gay man, who you’ve just misgendered (probably). You will now be cancelled, which will be a relief to your family, I’m sure. We have a bed waiting for you in our De-Coviding facility, with highly-trained, county-standard hurlers waiting to bate the stupidity outta ya & knock some sense into your poor, lockdown-damaged mind. When you recover & realise you’re not a graphic artist, you’ll thank us. No, really.
Bitnboxy
Crikey – what an altogether bizarre response? I don’t think you are doing yourself any favours K. Cavan.
Nuts.
K. Cavan
So, Nigel, you’re an authority on what other people should get mad at, now? I suppose it’s feasible, you are stone cold crazy & do a Very Convincing imitation of a preposterous, posturing fool. Shake your little stick with the bells on it! Wiggle your little tricorn hat, also with bells on it! Now, now you’re being funny, good man. We are amused.
Nigel
I’m exactly as much an authority on what people should get mad at as you, but I don’t find that in and of itself remarkable.
K. Cavan
The King won’t like this, say something funny or it’s off with your little foolish head.
Nigel
Uh-huh? Well I’m all shook up.
Maybe enough with the name calling now in fairness
Excellent, excellent, King likes Elvis, despite his nominal usurping of the title. You may live to jest another day. Once you’re not carried off by Long Covid, that is, good man! More jokes for his majesty, get cracking.
Nigel
You ain’t nothin’ but a hound dog.
Bitnboxy
On Face Nappy Freedom Day (copyright SOQ Inc.) the cuddly attendees should go full Gemma and Dee and start exercising their Face Nappy Freedom rights by entering retail premises and places of work of first responders.
K. Cavan
I’m sure the atendees will take your generous advice under consideration, everyone needs a good laugh & even if laughing at the afflicted is questionable, we’ll make an exception, just for you, you’re worth it. “First responders”, ha-ha-ha! Maybe you’ve watched too many episodes of CSI Covid?
Bitnboxy
Lol. The “afflicted”!
Nail on the head K. Cavan. They are afflicted by something alright but perhaps not what you claim.
Sling it mate.
Daisy Chainsaw
Which anonymous bunch of bigots are behind this non-event?
Maybe enough with the name calling now in fairness
Seems you didn’t pay enough attention in English class or school in general, you don’t seem to have grasped the meaning of “anonymous”. Never mind, it’s quite a BIG word, isn’t it?
Daisy Chainsaw
Legitimate groups protesting legitimate issues will put their names, logos and contact info on them. If your organisers have to remain anonymous, it makes you wonder what their real agenda is. https://www.ft.com/content/1e96edb3-eed4-4859-a0ff-f3eae0944055

Is there a collective noun for a gathering of psychologically damaged folk?
U N M U T U A L
Broadsheeshers! :-D
K. Cavan
Not sure. What’s the plural of fluffybiscuits?
fluffybiscuits
Packets of fluffybiscuits
Packets of nut jobs?
K. Cavan
Well, you stretched that one so far it snapped.

I love your “sense of humour”, it’s a good indicator that you can, eventually, be coaxed out of the tree by our highly-motivated First Responders (lol). A return to civilized society may be possible for you. (Don’t tell the others but I really don’t think there’s much hope for them, I’m not covinced they were ever, what you might call, normal.)

You’d make me miss Charger

Do you want me to help you scale heights like myself?
K. Cavan
Behold! The victims of Lockdown, sad cases who may never recover normal social functioning. The state needs to step in immediately with a rescue package, psychologists trained in deprogramming cult members are needed, urgently. It would be best done at dedicated facilities, we don’t want them wandering out among the Normal People, gibbering & screaming about masks & so on, scaring children & dogs with their mad eyes, as they drool & foam at the mouth like lobotomised, cretinous tramps. I have, of course, been charitable enough to assume they weren’t always misfits, oddballs & weirdos.

Ever thought of writing for Waterford Whispers News?
K. Cavan
No, yourself? No, didn’t think so. It’s a humourous type of thing, isn’t it?

“Show this government who owns this country”
I think he’s called Dennis…
K. Cavan
Denis? If you give him an extra “n” he sues, every time. It’s pronounced “Den-ee” you know.
Darce
oh cripes! I just found the broadsheet site recently and liked it as a news source, I had no idea they were anti-maskers?
ce
I come for the news, I stay for the conspiracy theories…
Masks give you constipation but it doesn’t matter because Covid is a lie, but they should still treat people with Ivermectin… you know… for the thing that doesn’t really exist…
Anyway, have a great bank holiday, don’t eat too many bats
On the 8th, I won’t wear a mask at home, when outside, when driving, or even when eating or drinking. And I’ll photograph myself doing it! I will revel in my new-found freedom from tyranny. That will show them who owns this country!
Micko
A lot of the folks here get really upset when someone decides not to wear a mask.
“Bigots”, “snowflakes” even “psychologically damaged” they call them.
I wonder why it upsets you guys so much.
Nigel
You really don’t know why? And you’ve been debating this here since the pandemic began? Despite commenter after commenter explaining why? That’s an astonishing level of not bothering your backside to listen, but the fact that you’d admit it beats all. You don’t know why people are wearing masks, all you know is you don’t want to wear one. Amazing. Are all anti-maskers like that? It would explain a lot.
Micko
I can’t speak for anyone else. So I don’t know. I will say I am the ONLY one of my friends who doesn’t wear one.
So, I can’t say about other people who don’t comply.
And I’ve heard all the rhetoric about them from you guys.
But on a deeper level, why do you care what I do? Why are you all so upset by it?
I think that they are completely pointless for viruses and no one uses them as instructed and as such -are just security theatre.
And more importantly, I think it is REALLY wrong to make children wear them for 6 hours a day.
Why does it upset you guys so much that my opinion / actions differs from you?
Even your reply above is aggressive.
Why?
Nigel
If you are simply incapable of accepting that others do not agree with your assessment of the effectiveness of masks then, yes, I imagine you’d have to go looking for stranger and more esoteric and fantastical explanations. Truly it would be a mystery to haunt you to the end of your days, and since the reasons for wearing them are the same as the reasons for getting upset by people not wearing them, then you’ve locked yourslef into a endless attitude of exaggerated, outraged incomprehension.
As for agressive comments, well, have you ever met yourself? Or E’matty? Or K Cavan?
Micko
I didn’t ask why you disagree
I know why you disagree. That’s fine.
I’m interested to know why you get so upset about it? And do you think it is right to force your beliefs on someone else, regardless of the law.
For example, have you ever challenged someone in a shop that isn’t wearing a mask?
And I don’t generally get aggressive here. In fact I apologised to you the other evening as I thought our exchange was getting a bit heated.
I’m not that type of person.
Nigel
The reasons for disliking an anti-mask movement are exactly the same as the reasons for wearing masks. It’s not ‘my beliefs,’ it’s public health policy during a public health emergency. It’s an extreme case to be sure, but most people who live in a democracy have to put up with governments exercising and enforcing policies they disagree with to one degree or another because their opinions about that policy happen to be in the minority.
(And no, I haven’t, and if you aren’t now, you have been in the past, but everyone can change.)
Micko
Ok. Well I’m usually just taking the mick. I don’t mean to come off as aggressive. :)
I suppose besides that kids wearing them and the lack of science around the effectivness of them. I’m not a big fan of groupthink. And this is what I see this as.
Last year, no one wore them and cases dropped in the summer (like now) and then the gov brought them in August almost 11 months ago and everyone’s opinion changed – almost overnight.
People got really upset if people didn’t wear one and were posting pictures of people online, shaming them. People who weren’t bothered before were now verbally attacking people in shops.
So then everyone felt pressure to wear one. As a lot of my pals have said to me. “I just wear one coz I don’t want the hassle”
And I just think that’s wrong. And I won’t be part of it.
Nigel
I’m sure the lads who got given out to for spitting when they were trying to eradicate TB felt similarly about groupthink and shaming.
Micko
Do you think the two situations are comparable?
Nigel
Sure.
Unreal
But micko is right nIgel
You are a bolx
Joe
Science doesn’t care what the deluded anti-maskers believe in and Darwin doesn’t care if they wear a mask or not. I do care and I would imagine some of these anti-maskers friends and relatives care as well about the people around them.
Up to now the world has lost 3.7 million people to COVID-19, coronavirus doesn’t care what the anti-maskers believe, either. It just wants another human body to grow in and spread from.
Let’s do our best to protect one and all even the anti-maskers and not grant it a safe passage, please wear your mask.
Micko
As Fauci said in his email from early 2020 – masks are ineffective against viruses. The viruses are too small to be stopped and pass through the mask.
So when did the science change?
Bodger
The virus became too big to go through the holes.
Nigel
This is disingenuous, undermining public health policy during an emergency via bad faith gotchas, great for internet pwning, not so much for dealing with real world pandemics. Science changes all the time when more data and information becomes available.
Micko
Yes, science does change.
When did the science on this subject change?
Nigel
What does he say on the emails?
Neville
Just let them do what they want and end up on oxygen in a corridor
You just can only go so far trying to get people to be sensible
All I know Is this virus is nasty
” Fauci” – who cares what he says, he’s in another country with a totally different medical/political system etc… Meanwhile back where we actually live, let’s ask some frontline doctors and nurses what masks can and can’t do:
So, I suppose Lambert… an of course Newstalk/Illuminati…is in on the ‘plan’…throw up some mad reason to discount the above link… I await more utter nonsense of an answer…hopefully another link to somebody trying to sell me diet books… although in fairness I could actually loose some weight….
The world totally mishandled covid – simultaneously blowing the early stages out of proportion while also failing to just do what you are supposed to do with infectious diseases… and we’re paying the price for that and will continue to do so, now we have – at best – another two to three years dealing with this. If countries had taken very basic public health steps from the outset we might not be going on a sun holiday but we would likely be able to sit in a gig or at a bar…. but no, we had pointless debates and used conspiracies and pointless contrarianism to object to reality. There is no conspiracy, we’re not competent enough as a species to organize this one – although yes different types of people will make capital from the situation… wow what a surprise – it’s just a sad fact that humans messed this one up…
Micko
Luke O’Neill said the same at the start of last year. Masks were essentially useless against viruses.
He’s Irish. Good enough for ya?
Again, when did the science on this change? Any conclusive studies you can point me to?
ce
No – show me a person who works in an ER who thinks that… Luke O’Neill does not work on the frontline…
I’m sure there are people in ER who have mad views… and they are in the extreme minority and they are wrong… sorry reality is what it is…
If I wear a mask (correctly) I protect you, I’m not doing it to protect me although it will reduce the viral load… believe whatever you want, doesn’t change reality…
Micko
Someone in an emergency room in a hospital is wearing a N95 mask which is changed at regular intervals.
Mary shopping in Tesco’s who’s mask is regularly kept in her purse with her lipstick isn’t.
When did the science change?
ce
“I understand perfectly how research works.
I studied science in college
Have a pop over there to the table and have a look at when those studies are from – yeah… all 2020
How are these studies funded?
Plenty of Covid money going around in 20/21 Lordy Lordy
You haven’t a clue “law – boy” ;)”
But not familiar with the concept of limits to knowledge… and citing the most recent work since those are likely to be the ones conducting the peer-review… as I said earlier I didn’t become a lawyer…
Anyway, still frightened of wearing a scarf?
Cian
This is what the CDC have to day. The “science” is in the table and footnotes.
“ Data regarding the “real-world” effectiveness of community masking are limited to observational and epidemiological studies.”
Yay – that’s some real science there.
Then they go into diss the Danish study and the Vietnam study from 2015
Jesus…
ce
I don’t think you understand what happens in research – how hard it is to prove anything 100% in the real world or lab conditions etc… Keep reading, don’t stop at the bit you think supports your point of view
Micko
I understand perfectly how research works.
I studied science in college.

anyway pre-2020 mask studies… not all of which are super into it, but not totally dismissive…
“Again, when did the science on this change? Any conclusive studies you can point me to?” – It doesn’t matter what anybody shows you, you’ll never change your mind, you’ll find another study to contradict it, that’s how the internet works…
Micko
No. Don’t do that.
The Danish one is the only one I can find. And the results were inconclusive.
There was a slight improvement in reduction in transmission in the masked group vs the control. But it was too small to be conclusive.
So again, when did the science change?
ce
Put a sheet of glass in front of your face and cough
Next put another sheet of glass in front of your face and then put even a single sheet of cotton in between you and the glass and cough… see where I’m going with this…
Now, the next question is from a recent Higher Level Physics Leaving Cert Paper, so take your time thinking about it… Which piece of glass has more moisture on it?
Micko
Ok, so both Fauci and O’Neill and every other scientist globally was wrong about mask effectivness against viruses. prior to mid 2021?
If only they had done the recently patented “ce two piece of glass and cotton” experiment.
Silly scientists…
Nigel
Every other scientist globally? Name them. ALL OF THEM.
ce
“Ok, so both Fauci and O’Neill and every other scientist globally …” I don’t think there are/were many doctors in Asia that think that…
Again, which piece of glass has more moisture on it?
Don’t trust the experts – experts can be wrong – conduct the experiment and tell me what happens
General Public
Do underpants prevent farts from smelling?
Nigel
You are NOT getting into the restaurant and nobody cares if you think covering your bum is unscientific.
ce
Does the virus… if it’s even real… travel in your farts or moisture from your respiratory system?… and again, let me know when you conduct the “cough on glass” experiment …
And just to make sure, don’t cough on the glass, spit instead…
Micko
“ Don’t trust the experts”
Sorry now.
Nigel’s telling me to “trust the experts “
And you’re telling me to not trust them and “do my own experiments.”
Do you two lads want to go off to your own chat for a bit and come up with a coherent strategy and come back to me?
I’ll wait…
General Public
Now that’s where the “rage” is coming from.
ce
“Nigel’s telling me to “trust the experts “ “- good for Nigel
“And you’re telling me to not trust them and “do my own experiments.”” – do whatever you want, but since you have a hard time accepting what a lot… not all.. . people who study these things say, why not conduct the experiment? It could, I admit, be a bad experiment, you may even – following the experiment – ask the wrong questions about the data that results… but at least try it and let me know how you get on and what you think about the results
You can make a YouTube video of the whole thing, like the magnet guy, and get lots of followers…
And also, send Jack Lambert an email and ask him his opinion on mask wearing and Covid…
You can even phone him, number is on the page, and let me know what he says. Maybe he’ll say – “I was made say all that mask stuff on the t.v. and it’s all total horlicks”… but somehow I don’t think he will…
Micko
Jack Lambert? The NOW famous doctor!
Sure, I’ll just give his publicist a shout.
Or I can just read his book next year…
:)
ce
Does that mean you don’t believe Lambert?
He was only in it for the money/book deal?
And again, let me know how the glass coughing goes
General Public
Does he have an active twitter account?
Just like Ivor, only for fame and potential book deal/RTE slot.
Let me know how the fart experiment goes..
Micko
I believe that just like Ivor Cummins, there’s plenty of people wanting to make a name for themselves around this.
Call his office in the mater?
FFS – Jack Lamberts mobile number is on his LinkedIn page for Christ’s sake. So ye know… he’s only human. ;)
You seems to think having letters after your name means you are infallible. He can be swayed too ye know.
And I don’t need to do your glass experiment. The Danes did a real world experiment and it was inconclusive.
Why are you ignoring the real world science experiment and choosing to believe what you read in The Irish Times or wherever?
Will we blame the government fo letting old people die in nursing homes? Or let them divide us into fighting and blaming each other for THEIR screw up!
To me that is what masks and blaming people is about
And now they’re blaming the young folks for living life.
General Public
Jack Lambert is just another wannabe superstar doc so busy on the front line he mans his twitter account daily.
“You seems to think having letters after your name means you are infallible. He can be swayed too ye know.” – Agreed
“And I don’t need to do your glass experiment.” – why not, it’s educational, you’re not even curious???
“The Danes did a real world experiment and it was inconclusive. Why are you ignoring the real world science experiment and choosing to believe what you read in The Irish Times or wherever?”…
eh… The Danes have letters after their names too, maybe they were swayed… or more likely there could be an issue with their methodology etc… a single study does not make something true regardless of the field… but also, I’ll give a lot of credence to the real world experiences in an emergency room… again, doesn’t mean it’s gospel truth… but it’s probably worth paying serious attention to.
Also, masks and Asia… any opinions on their degree of medical sheepishness???
General Public
Ie; I’ll stick stubbornly to the twitter doctor spouting nonsense about a Vietnamese variant, inspite of evidence to the contrary.. And stay “enraged” when people don’t accept my warped opinions.
Seriously, try the fart experiment..
ce
Yeah, Lambert is a clown, him and his stupid medical knowledge… trying to communicate this with muppets on Twitter…
I’ll call Jim Corr’s publicist and find out what he thinks… you know… for balance
General Public
Ivor bad/Jack good.
Micko
Ah… quite correct @ce. The Danes could be wrong.
So we agree – of course scientists are not infallible.
That’s why we have peer review.
Now, if we had a peer reviewed study on all this stuff?
You think there might have been one in… I dunno… the previous 100 years of medical science.
On Asia, I dunno. I’ve heard they’re not big fans of germs and it’s cultural.
Maybe they have a peer reviewed paper on it?
Anyway, regardless. I still think it’s wrong to use the criminal courts system to enforce public health measures.
And I think what we’ve allowed to happen to teenagers is schools is fupping criminal.
So, no matter what – I will NOT be participating in the wearing of masks.
Think of me as a conscientious objector. ;)
Have a nice weekend and I hope I haven’t caused you too much stress.
ce
Ivor … out of his element… on so many level…
Jack … works in an actual hospital dealing with Covid… doesn’t mean everything he says is true, but it’s likely worth considering…
Danish mask study…. inconclusive, that is was not conclusive on mask… also, it was one study
Next …
General Public
“Ivor.. out of his element..”
Indeed, so are you, and so is Jack with his invented developing world variant..
Jack Lambert, twitter doctor/overpaid consultant, so busy on the front lines he updates twitter with nonsense..
Yeah, but Ivor..
ce
“So we agree – of course scientists are not infallible.” Yes
“That’s why we have peer review.” – Peer review is not infallible either, but that’s an aside
“Now, if we had a peer reviewed study on all this stuff? You think there might have been one in… I dunno… the previous 100 years of medical science.” – Dear God where to start…Would you like a surgeon to wear a mask operating on you… when did such kind of witchcraft start???
“On Asia, I dunno. I’ve heard they’re not big fans of germs and it’s cultural.” –
But nothing to learn from them obviously???
“Anyway, regardless. I still think it’s wrong to use the criminal courts system to enforce public health measures.” Agreed. However, it’s amazing how rather than accepting reality people will claim their rights are violated by wearing a mask…
“And I think what we’ve allowed to happen to teenagers is schools is fupping criminal.
So, no matter what – I will NOT be participating in the wearing of masks.” – Well done, your children, and your children’s children, and your children’s children’s children will sing your praise…
“Think of me as a conscientious objector. ;)” – The craic we had the day we died for Ireland,
“Have a nice weekend and I hope I haven’t caused you too much stress.” – none really, more bafflement than stress…
Keep on Coughing in the Free World
ce
” I’ll stick stubbornly to the twitter doctor spouting nonsense about a Vietnamese variant, inspite of evidence to the contrary.. And stay “enraged” when people don’t accept my warped opinions.”
– hahahaha… where to start… diet book guy… repeat diet book guy… or medical practitioner working with Covid everyday…. or even all the other medical practitioners dealing with Covid everyday, not just Lambert….yeah, think I’ll go with diet book guy…and maybe, just maybe I know some people who work in this area everyday, and don’t get all my info off of youtube and twitter.. no deffinely diet book guy…
“Seriously, try the fart experiment…” I’ll let you know how it goes following the curry I’m about to make… if a fart falls in a n95 mask does it make a smell….
Keep on Coughing in the Free World…. while you still can…before the lizards get you
General Public
“dealing with Covid everyday..”
Jack is nowhere near Covid, he’s on twitter spouting nonsense to impressionable idiots on his gigantic consultants pay packet.
Perhaps that’s what you’re smelling aswell as your own farts.
Micko
Ye know… I was trying to be civil and wrap this up with a “have a nice weekend” ce
But fine…
First off, let’s start simple. surgeons wear masks to protect you from bacteria. Which are WAY bigger than viruses. They also don’t keep them hanging off their car mirror full of snots or next to their balls.
Surgeons have also been wearing masks for about 100 years (about 1920’s I think)
In all that time, you think SOMEONE would’ve done a peer reviewed study into the effectiveness of masks and viruses.
Ye know a study that might’ve given Fauci and O’Neill and other scientists their “wrong opinions” at the start of last year.
But no, they left them all till mid last year…
What an unbelievable coincidence!
Brand new non peer reviewed data comes out just when world leaders are looking to blame the population for their screwups in nursing homes, hospitals.
And get people back shopping too – don’t forget that ;) You’re SAFE with a mask don’t ya know.
Hmmm… I wonder if something similar happened in Asia a few decades ago? Good ol Asian governments blamed their people for their mess.
Now there’s a thought… who sells us all the masks again? Yeah…
That might answer your “Asia question” on why they love the masks.
And you agree that it’s wrong to use the criminal courts to enforce this. But you won’t do anything to oppose it and chastise me for opposing it the only way I can.
I mean I could go march with the others, but you don’t seem to be a fan of that either…
What’s a guy to do eh?
Nigel
‘Do you two lads want to go off to your own chat for a bit and come up with a coherent strategy and come back to me?’
I hate to cast aspersions Micko, but maybe the lack of a mask has caused a rush of oxygen to the brain: there’s nothing contradictory or incoherent about ‘trust but verify.’
ce
Asia –
I know China would love to have it all but…asia… many countries and different political systems, ethnicities, cultural practices etc…… they are not all in it to get us…
Law –
When something goes wrong in so many situations in civic society….people want laws made… and resorting to the law for everything is generally a bad idea – Sumption’s Reith Lectures on the BBC cover this, worth a listen if you haven’t heard seriously brilliant stuff,… it was also a great lesson a constitutional Law lecturer of mine taught me a long time ago… before you ask I didn’t become a Lawyer, which is a great thing for society…. however, that doesn’t mean what you are being asked to do is a bad idea although using the law to enforce it likely a bad idea, ie… putting a mask on… and maybe it might help other people… not magic bullet… but it might help…
And that’s just Google, many other journal articles and research will not be available on line….
I’m sure there’s all manner of studies, methodologies, finding etc… peer review and non-peer reviewed… from before and after the pandemic… I sure opinions have changed overtime, multiple time… and I’m sure (as sure as you are of the opposite) that wearing a mask properly somewhat protects other people… and if we can’t managed to wear a mask properly given our brains and opposable thumbs, we’re probably doomed as a species…
Now, curry time
Micko
“ but maybe the lack of a mask has caused a rush of oxygen to the brain:”
Jeez Nigel.
Masks don’t restrict oxygen dude.
Ya big anti-masker
BURN HIM!!!! :0)
But seriously lads. Get your stories straight.
“Follow / don’t follow the experts”
“Masks do / don’t restrict oxygen”
Your opinions are like a house of cards.
ce
“Jack is nowhere near Covid, he’s on twitter spouting nonsense to impressionable idiots on his gigantic consultants pay packet.”
Yeah, every other lowly paid hospital worker – I’m sure you know some? – in the public and private sector is in on it too… the Illuminati need plumbers too…
General Public
Gas..
You know you’re losing when you’re shoehorning tripe to try and abnormalise your opposite.
Newsflash : It’s your own fault for citing the jumped up FGer consultant.
Nigel
‘Masks don’t restrict oxygen dude.’
Thatsthejoke.gif
ce
“You know you’re losing when you’re shoehorning tripe to try and abnormalise your opposite.” – I know, losing the comment section, what will I do…
We’ve all lost about 18 months, and probably going to loose a lot more before all this is done…good times…keep up the good work…
General Public
“loose the comment section..”
There’s that rage overcoming your thumbs.
ce
Well, since evolution gave me thumbs might as well use them, even incorrectly… thanks for the peer-review… definitely your forte
it’s a rage-filled weekend…
keep it going nearly at 200… we’re all in this together
ce
“Someone in an emergency room in a hospital is wearing a N95 mask which is changed at regular intervals.
Mary shopping in Tesco’s who’s mask is regularly kept in her purse with her lipstick isn’t.
When did the science change?” Totally – Mary is a moron and a danger to herself, but she is still less likely to spread it to me…. again people have had a year to learn to wear a mask… can’t help stupid
Nigel
Leave Mary alone she’s doing her best like the rest of us.
ce
Mary (or Mick for that matter) is going to kill us all… or at least whoever they’re in the Shebeen with…
Nigel
No…no, my God, have we forgotten who we are? Mary is you Mary is me, Mary is all of us. If we forget that, if we lose hold of that, then we might as well lick the rats ourselves. Well I’m not licking any rat, and neither is Mary. YOU LICK ALL THE RATS YOU WANT BUT ME AND MARY ARE GOING TO TRUST THE POWER OF FRIENDSHIP!
Micko
Oh… Mary’s a moron is she?
Hmm… Interesting.
I wonder if we took a poll of Broadsheet users about their mask hygiene habits and if they they “correctly” use them – would we find many “morons” here?
U N M U T U A L
@micko
Their masks are slipping and the gloves are coming off…
Be careful of the left jab!
;-)
Janet, dreams of an alternate universe
it’s the one under the belt you need to watch
ce
I sure we’d find most people fall into that category – that’s the hard truth…
I understand why there was hesitation to recommend mask wearing for the public… because the public ain’t that bright… some of them think Jim O’Callaghan would make a good FF leader… others who’s adult children can’t afford rent and have moved back to the DBS nest (they are big nests after all) will vote for Mr. Used to be Nua of FG… so yeah, often we are not the brightest…
Micko
In my experience, those who call others “not that bright” are usually covering for something.
As I’ve stated before. There are no geniuses here. ;)
ce
“In my experience, those who call others “not that bright” are usually covering for something. ” In my case it’s covering my rage at stupidity and ignorance…
And, I include myself in the ‘not that bright’ category on many things too… “often WE are not the brightest”
General Public
I’d give you a dig out Micko but you seem to be handling this easily..
Micko
Ah ce. Excellent.
Why rage? This was my initial question to Nigel.
What are you enraged about?
General Public
“rage..”
Good grief, go enjoy the weekend for heavens sake..
ce
Why rage :
Ignorance – especially wilful ignorance – and stupidity, and how that traps people, often innocents, in awful yet avoidable circumstances:
Auto translation: people won’t accept my opinion and now I’m so upset.
Nigel
‘In my case it’s covering my rage at stupidity and ignorance…’
‘What are you enraged about?’
?????
General Public
Rephrase that for the sensible please..
ce
“Auto translation: people won’t accept my opinion and now I’m so upset.”… yes, that’s it, thanks Doc, how much do I owe you???!!!
General Public
You’re suffering from too much Internet. Take a much needed break.
ce
Don’t give me any more psychological advice General Public, I can’t afford your bill already, likely I’ll have to sell a kidney to pay it off…
General Public
That’s fine, stay enraged.
Janet, dreams of an alternate universe
if I wasn’t sure it was Friday, I am now
Micko
Hehehe ;)
Neville
Anyone coming to the door of my restaurant without face covered is not getting in
How’s that for the eigth
ce
But you are discriminating against the severely distressed!!!
U N M U T U A L
Grand so,
How about take out?
I’ll have the bat soup, crackers with a side asymptomatic spread*… *makes it much easier to swallow!
Micko
What about those who are medically exempt Neville?
Will you be asking to see “zer papers”?
Or will you just discriminate against them based on their medical condition?
Nigel
Wow, he suddenly remembers the genuinely vulnerable people he’s trying to hide behind,
General Public
The vulnerable people who can’t take the vaccine that you don’t care about..
Nigel
Pretty sure it’s the ones eschewing the vaccine who are putting the ones who have no choice at risk, bubba.
Micko
“ the genuinely vulnerable people”
You and I both know you’re only interested in protecting yourself Nigel.
“ We are men of action…
lies do not become us”
:-)
Nigel
Yeah, and up is down.
General Public
And white is black..
Nigel
And the people wearing masks don’t care about the vulnerable.
General Public
Newsflash: There are other perspectives, not just your selfish own.
Nigel
Yes, thanks, Captain Obvious, I know, I’ve been disagreeing with those other stupid perspectives for this entire stupid thread.
ce
“Newsflash: There are other perspectives, not just your selfish own”…. hahahaha
Well done He Said She Said
So listen, I ate the curry, and had a really big fart and now not even the dog will look at me… do you think he knows I have covid??? Do you think I might have given him Covid, it was a bit of a wet one, might be in the droplets???
millie bobby brownie
I’m not a violent person but I think I’d like to set this entire thread on fire.
ce
we’re going for 200 replies Millie, strap in…
Nigel
Nuke us from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure.
ce
No chance, I’m actually a Tardigrades… I’ll keep going…
ce
made it to 150… not quite the meaningful 200… such is life… goodnight
Oh feck off you cringey snowflakes. Always getting mad at the wrong thing.
They should be getting mad at the lad (and you know it’s an auld lad) who is responsible for their poster design. Shocking.
No, really.
Crikey – what an altogether bizarre response? I don’t think you are doing yourself any favours K. Cavan.
Nuts.
I’m exactly as much an authority on what people should get mad at as you, but I don’t find that in and of itself remarkable.
The King won’t like this, say something funny or it’s off with your little foolish head.
Uh-huh? Well I’m all shook up.
Excellent, excellent, King likes Elvis, despite his nominal usurping of the title. You may live to jest another day. Once you’re not carried off by Long Covid, that is, good man! More jokes for his majesty, get cracking.
You ain’t nothin’ but a hound dog.
On Face Nappy Freedom Day (copyright SOQ Inc.) the cuddly attendees should go full Gemma and Dee and start exercising their Face Nappy Freedom rights by entering retail premises and places of work of first responders.
Lol. The “afflicted”!
Nail on the head K. Cavan. They are afflicted by something alright but perhaps not what you claim.
Sling it mate.
Which anonymous bunch of bigots are behind this non-event?
Seems you didn’t pay enough attention in English class or school in general, you don’t seem to have grasped the meaning of “anonymous”. Never mind, it’s quite a BIG word, isn’t it?
Legitimate groups protesting legitimate issues will put their names, logos and contact info on them. If your organisers have to remain anonymous, it makes you wonder what their real agenda is.

No they’re not.

Is there a collective noun for a gathering of psychologically damaged folk?
Broadsheeshers! :-D
Not sure. What’s the plural of fluffybiscuits?
Packets of fluffybiscuits
Packets of nut jobs?
Well, you stretched that one so far it snapped.
“Packets of fluffybiscuits”
+1000
I love your “sense of humour”, it’s a good indicator that you can, eventually, be coaxed out of the tree by our highly-motivated First Responders (lol). A return to civilized society may be possible for you. (Don’t tell the others but I really don’t think there’s much hope for them, I’m not covinced they were ever, what you might call, normal.)
You’d make me miss Charger
Do you want me to help you scale heights like myself?
No, yourself? No, didn’t think so. It’s a humourous type of thing, isn’t it?

“Show this government who owns this country”
I think he’s called Dennis…
Denis? If you give him an extra “n” he sues, every time. It’s pronounced “Den-ee” you know.
oh cripes! I just found the broadsheet site recently and liked it as a news source, I had no idea they were anti-maskers?
I come for the news, I stay for the conspiracy theories…
Masks give you constipation but it doesn’t matter because Covid is a lie, but they should still treat people with Ivermectin… you know… for the thing that doesn’t really exist…
Anyway, have a great bank holiday, don’t eat too many bats
This is engagement.
What a sorry end to broadsheet.
Depressing stuff
On the 8th, I won’t wear a mask at home, when outside, when driving, or even when eating or drinking. And I’ll photograph myself doing it! I will revel in my new-found freedom from tyranny. That will show them who owns this country!
A lot of the folks here get really upset when someone decides not to wear a mask.
“Bigots”, “snowflakes” even “psychologically damaged” they call them.
I wonder why it upsets you guys so much.
Why?
If you are simply incapable of accepting that others do not agree with your assessment of the effectiveness of masks then, yes, I imagine you’d have to go looking for stranger and more esoteric and fantastical explanations. Truly it would be a mystery to haunt you to the end of your days, and since the reasons for wearing them are the same as the reasons for getting upset by people not wearing them, then you’ve locked yourslef into a endless attitude of exaggerated, outraged incomprehension.
As for agressive comments, well, have you ever met yourself? Or E’matty? Or K Cavan?
I didn’t ask why you disagree
I know why you disagree. That’s fine.
I’m interested to know why you get so upset about it? And do you think it is right to force your beliefs on someone else, regardless of the law.
For example, have you ever challenged someone in a shop that isn’t wearing a mask?
And I don’t generally get aggressive here. In fact I apologised to you the other evening as I thought our exchange was getting a bit heated.
I’m not that type of person.
I’m sure the lads who got given out to for spitting when they were trying to eradicate TB felt similarly about groupthink and shaming.
Do you think the two situations are comparable?
Sure.
But micko is right nIgel
You are a bolx
Science doesn’t care what the deluded anti-maskers believe in and Darwin doesn’t care if they wear a mask or not. I do care and I would imagine some of these anti-maskers friends and relatives care as well about the people around them.
Up to now the world has lost 3.7 million people to COVID-19, coronavirus doesn’t care what the anti-maskers believe, either. It just wants another human body to grow in and spread from.
Let’s do our best to protect one and all even the anti-maskers and not grant it a safe passage, please wear your mask.
As Fauci said in his email from early 2020 – masks are ineffective against viruses. The viruses are too small to be stopped and pass through the mask.
So when did the science change?
The virus became too big to go through the holes.
This is disingenuous, undermining public health policy during an emergency via bad faith gotchas, great for internet pwning, not so much for dealing with real world pandemics. Science changes all the time when more data and information becomes available.
Yes, science does change.
When did the science on this subject change?
What does he say on the emails?
Just let them do what they want and end up on oxygen in a corridor
You just can only go so far trying to get people to be sensible
All I know Is this virus is nasty
“science changes all the time..”
Ehm no it doesn’t..
That’s goal posts moving champ..
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superseded_theories_in_science
” Fauci” – who cares what he says, he’s in another country with a totally different medical/political system etc… Meanwhile back where we actually live, let’s ask some frontline doctors and nurses what masks can and can’t do:
https://www.newstalk.com/news/lack-enforcement-face-mask-rules-shameful-dr-jack-lambert-1076152
There is no conspiracy, we’re not competent enough as a species to organize this one – although yes different types of people will make capital from the situation… wow what a surprise – it’s just a sad fact that humans messed this one up…
Luke O’Neill said the same at the start of last year. Masks were essentially useless against viruses.
He’s Irish. Good enough for ya?
Again, when did the science on this change? Any conclusive studies you can point me to?
No – show me a person who works in an ER who thinks that… Luke O’Neill does not work on the frontline…
I’m sure there are people in ER who have mad views… and they are in the extreme minority and they are wrong… sorry reality is what it is…
If I wear a mask (correctly) I protect you, I’m not doing it to protect me although it will reduce the viral load… believe whatever you want, doesn’t change reality…
Someone in an emergency room in a hospital is wearing a N95 mask which is changed at regular intervals.
Mary shopping in Tesco’s who’s mask is regularly kept in her purse with her lipstick isn’t.
When did the science change?
“I understand perfectly how research works.

But not familiar with the concept of limits to knowledge… and citing the most recent work since those are likely to be the ones conducting the peer-review… as I said earlier I didn’t become a lawyer…
Anyway, still frightened of wearing a scarf?
This is what the CDC have to day. The “science” is in the table and footnotes.
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/science/science-briefs/masking-science-sars-cov2.html
Honestly Cian
Did you even read that before you posted it?
“ Data regarding the “real-world” effectiveness of community masking are limited to observational and epidemiological studies.”
Yay – that’s some real science there.
Then they go into diss the Danish study and the Vietnam study from 2015
Jesus…
I don’t think you understand what happens in research – how hard it is to prove anything 100% in the real world or lab conditions etc… Keep reading, don’t stop at the bit you think supports your point of view
I understand perfectly how research works.
I studied science in college.

Anyway – Friday night. It’s wine o’clock. G-luck
You studied science in college and you won’t wear a mask… wow… great value for money for the tax payer on that one…

“Again, when did the science on this change? Any conclusive studies you can point me to?” – It doesn’t matter what anybody shows you, you’ll never change your mind, you’ll find another study to contradict it, that’s how the internet works…
No. Don’t do that.
The Danish one is the only one I can find. And the results were inconclusive.
There was a slight improvement in reduction in transmission in the masked group vs the control. But it was too small to be conclusive.
So again, when did the science change?
Put a sheet of glass in front of your face and cough
Next put another sheet of glass in front of your face and then put even a single sheet of cotton in between you and the glass and cough… see where I’m going with this…
Now, the next question is from a recent Higher Level Physics Leaving Cert Paper, so take your time thinking about it… Which piece of glass has more moisture on it?
Ok, so both Fauci and O’Neill and every other scientist globally was wrong about mask effectivness against viruses. prior to mid 2021?
If only they had done the recently patented “ce two piece of glass and cotton” experiment.
Silly scientists…
Every other scientist globally? Name them. ALL OF THEM.
“Ok, so both Fauci and O’Neill and every other scientist globally …” I don’t think there are/were many doctors in Asia that think that…
Again, which piece of glass has more moisture on it?
Don’t trust the experts – experts can be wrong – conduct the experiment and tell me what happens
Do underpants prevent farts from smelling?
You are NOT getting into the restaurant and nobody cares if you think covering your bum is unscientific.
Does the virus… if it’s even real… travel in your farts or moisture from your respiratory system?… and again, let me know when you conduct the “cough on glass” experiment …
And just to make sure, don’t cough on the glass, spit instead…
“ Don’t trust the experts”
Sorry now.
Nigel’s telling me to “trust the experts “
And you’re telling me to not trust them and “do my own experiments.”
Do you two lads want to go off to your own chat for a bit and come up with a coherent strategy and come back to me?
I’ll wait…
Now that’s where the “rage” is coming from.
And also, send Jack Lambert an email and ask him his opinion on mask wearing and Covid…
https://www.mater.ie/consultants/dr-john-lambert/
You can even phone him, number is on the page, and let me know what he says. Maybe he’ll say – “I was made say all that mask stuff on the t.v. and it’s all total horlicks”… but somehow I don’t think he will…
Jack Lambert? The NOW famous doctor!
Sure, I’ll just give his publicist a shout.
Or I can just read his book next year…
:)
Does that mean you don’t believe Lambert?
He was only in it for the money/book deal?
And again, let me know how the glass coughing goes
Does he have an active twitter account?
Just like Ivor, only for fame and potential book deal/RTE slot.
Let me know how the fart experiment goes..
Jack Lambert is just another wannabe superstar doc so busy on the front line he mans his twitter account daily.
https://twitter.com/JamesDeegan1979/status/1399335011296415744?s=19
Ie; I’ll stick stubbornly to the twitter doctor spouting nonsense about a Vietnamese variant, inspite of evidence to the contrary.. And stay “enraged” when people don’t accept my warped opinions.
Seriously, try the fart experiment..
Yeah, Lambert is a clown, him and his stupid medical knowledge… trying to communicate this with muppets on Twitter…
I’ll call Jim Corr’s publicist and find out what he thinks… you know… for balance
Ivor bad/Jack good.
Ivor … out of his element… on so many level…
Jack … works in an actual hospital dealing with Covid… doesn’t mean everything he says is true, but it’s likely worth considering…
Danish mask study…. inconclusive, that is was not conclusive on mask… also, it was one study
Next …
“Ivor.. out of his element..”
Indeed, so are you, and so is Jack with his invented developing world variant..
Jack Lambert, twitter doctor/overpaid consultant, so busy on the front lines he updates twitter with nonsense..
Yeah, but Ivor..
Keep on Coughing in the Free World
” I’ll stick stubbornly to the twitter doctor spouting nonsense about a Vietnamese variant, inspite of evidence to the contrary..
Keep on Coughing in the Free World…. while you still can…before the lizards get you
“dealing with Covid everyday..”
Jack is nowhere near Covid, he’s on twitter spouting nonsense to impressionable idiots on his gigantic consultants pay packet.
Perhaps that’s what you’re smelling aswell as your own farts.
‘Do you two lads want to go off to your own chat for a bit and come up with a coherent strategy and come back to me?’
I hate to cast aspersions Micko, but maybe the lack of a mask has caused a rush of oxygen to the brain: there’s nothing contradictory or incoherent about ‘trust but verify.’
As for peer review and mask wearing …
There’s about 9,000,000 links:
https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&q=peer+reviewd+study+on+masks+and+viruses
Now, curry time
“ but maybe the lack of a mask has caused a rush of oxygen to the brain:”
Jeez Nigel.
Masks don’t restrict oxygen dude.
Ya big anti-masker
BURN HIM!!!! :0)
But seriously lads. Get your stories straight.
“Follow / don’t follow the experts”
“Masks do / don’t restrict oxygen”
Your opinions are like a house of cards.
“Jack is nowhere near Covid, he’s on twitter spouting nonsense to impressionable idiots on his gigantic consultants pay packet.”
Yeah, every other lowly paid hospital worker – I’m sure you know some? – in the public and private sector is in on it too… the Illuminati need plumbers too…
Gas..
You know you’re losing when you’re shoehorning tripe to try and abnormalise your opposite.
Newsflash : It’s your own fault for citing the jumped up FGer consultant.
‘Masks don’t restrict oxygen dude.’
Thatsthejoke.gif
“You know you’re losing when you’re shoehorning tripe to try and abnormalise your opposite.” – I know, losing the comment section, what will I do…
We’ve all lost about 18 months, and probably going to loose a lot more before all this is done…good times…keep up the good work…
“loose the comment section..”
There’s that rage overcoming your thumbs.
Well, since evolution gave me thumbs might as well use them, even incorrectly… thanks for the peer-review… definitely your forte
it’s a rage-filled weekend…
keep it going nearly at 200… we’re all in this together
“Someone in an emergency room in a hospital is wearing a N95 mask which is changed at regular intervals.
Mary shopping in Tesco’s who’s mask is regularly kept in her purse with her lipstick isn’t.
When did the science change?” Totally – Mary is a moron and a danger to herself, but she is still less likely to spread it to me…. again people have had a year to learn to wear a mask… can’t help stupid
Leave Mary alone she’s doing her best like the rest of us.
Mary (or Mick for that matter) is going to kill us all… or at least whoever they’re in the Shebeen with…
No…no, my God, have we forgotten who we are? Mary is you Mary is me, Mary is all of us. If we forget that, if we lose hold of that, then we might as well lick the rats ourselves. Well I’m not licking any rat, and neither is Mary. YOU LICK ALL THE RATS YOU WANT BUT ME AND MARY ARE GOING TO TRUST THE POWER OF FRIENDSHIP!
Oh… Mary’s a moron is she?
Hmm… Interesting.
I wonder if we took a poll of Broadsheet users about their mask hygiene habits and if they they “correctly” use them – would we find many “morons” here?
@micko
Their masks are slipping and the gloves are coming off…
Be careful of the left jab!
;-)
it’s the one under the belt you need to watch
I sure we’d find most people fall into that category – that’s the hard truth…
I understand why there was hesitation to recommend mask wearing for the public… because the public ain’t that bright… some of them think Jim O’Callaghan would make a good FF leader… others who’s adult children can’t afford rent and have moved back to the DBS nest (they are big nests after all) will vote for Mr. Used to be Nua of FG… so yeah, often we are not the brightest…
In my experience, those who call others “not that bright” are usually covering for something.
As I’ve stated before. There are no geniuses here. ;)
“In my experience, those who call others “not that bright” are usually covering for something. ” In my case it’s covering my rage at stupidity and ignorance…
And, I include myself in the ‘not that bright’ category on many things too… “often WE are not the brightest”
I’d give you a dig out Micko but you seem to be handling this easily..
Ah ce. Excellent.
Why rage? This was my initial question to Nigel.
What are you enraged about?
“rage..”
Good grief, go enjoy the weekend for heavens sake..
Why rage :
Ignorance – especially wilful ignorance – and stupidity, and how that traps people, often innocents, in awful yet avoidable circumstances:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vq7JSic1DtM
… and sometimes the Frankfurt School ;)
Auto translation: people won’t accept my opinion and now I’m so upset.
‘In my case it’s covering my rage at stupidity and ignorance…’
‘What are you enraged about?’
?????
Rephrase that for the sensible please..
“Auto translation: people won’t accept my opinion and now I’m so upset.”… yes, that’s it, thanks Doc, how much do I owe you???!!!
You’re suffering from too much Internet. Take a much needed break.
Don’t give me any more psychological advice General Public, I can’t afford your bill already, likely I’ll have to sell a kidney to pay it off…
That’s fine, stay enraged.
if I wasn’t sure it was Friday, I am now
Hehehe ;)
Anyone coming to the door of my restaurant without face covered is not getting in
How’s that for the eigth
But you are discriminating against the severely distressed!!!
Grand so,
How about take out?
I’ll have the bat soup, crackers with a side asymptomatic spread*… *makes it much easier to swallow!
What about those who are medically exempt Neville?
Will you be asking to see “zer papers”?
Or will you just discriminate against them based on their medical condition?
Wow, he suddenly remembers the genuinely vulnerable people he’s trying to hide behind,
The vulnerable people who can’t take the vaccine that you don’t care about..
Pretty sure it’s the ones eschewing the vaccine who are putting the ones who have no choice at risk, bubba.
“ the genuinely vulnerable people”
You and I both know you’re only interested in protecting yourself Nigel.
“ We are men of action…
lies do not become us”
:-)
Yeah, and up is down.
And white is black..
And the people wearing masks don’t care about the vulnerable.
Newsflash: There are other perspectives, not just your selfish own.
Yes, thanks, Captain Obvious, I know, I’ve been disagreeing with those other stupid perspectives for this entire stupid thread.
I’m not a violent person but I think I’d like to set this entire thread on fire.
we’re going for 200 replies Millie, strap in…
Nuke us from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure.
No chance, I’m actually a Tardigrades… I’ll keep going…
made it to 150… not quite the meaningful 200… such is life… goodnight
